Really good Gyro, Great Fried Zucchini, and the Rice was Excellent! Ample seating all around so its great to see you guys can handle heavier crowds! Great to see your place still here! We Were headed for the Bun Boy, but they were no longer there. Next time i want to try the Onassis Burger! Kudos to Larry the Owner for actually taking the time to reply to every review!!
Excellent lunch! Chicken gyro, strawberry shake, and pita+hummus starter. It was a little pricey (9$ for the starter), but I enjoyed the meat and particularly the pita quality. Would visit again.
The food and service were both incredible. Those were some of the best fries I've ever had and the cheese quesadilla was to die for. The chocolate shake was super delicious and even came with a cute little umbrella. All of the food tasted fresh made, I can't wait for my next road trip so I can visit again.
Updating 2/16/22 And tonight we had the Onassis Burgers, omg those are the bomb! The fries were great too, so fluffy yet crispy. Thank you again! Also we had a fountain drink, rooter, it was amazing! Sometimes fountain drinks aren't so good, but it was excellent! Great job! Thank you for the response from the owner! I know times are hard. Since we are sticking around for a week or so, we did go back for another try. Excellent! This time we got the large Greek salad with chicken gyro to share. What super big tasty salad it was! If you love a great salad it's a must. Plenty of red onions, tomatoes, cucumbers, olives and feta on crispy lettuce, spinach and cilantro. Came with a pepperoncini and a dolimede(stuffed grape leaf, yummy), kalamata olives, plenty of flavorful Greek vinaigrette, big lemon wedge and a super pita bread. Then the tasty chicken gyro meat on top. Definitely filled us both up and absolutely worth the $19.38+tip. I expect to be back during our stay to try some other items. The desserts and pastries look very tempting. Thank you! 2/14/22 It was ok. Because of the pandemic literally everything I had seen and wanted from the menu was unavailable. The lamb and beef gyro had good flavor, but the meat was quite dry and didn't get enough tzaziki to cover it. It's pretty expensive too, again I assume from the pandemic. Staff is friendly. Not bad, just not anything there, at least in these times, that I'd go back for. Masks are required at this time.
We were so excited to see place with fresher ingredients while on the road. We got the feta fries, salad, and gyro and they all tasted great! We dined in the outdoor area and my kids loved the kitty cats!
I always like stopping in this place they have the best food and I love lamb. Always a pleasant experience here, good to see the same faces when visiting this restaurant, gives it a family type atmosphere. They keep the place clean and orderly. There are also several bakery items, beer and specialty fruit drinks available.
The Mad Greek was amazing! The food was fresh, the portions were legit and the service was fast. Depending on your appetite, you may want to split an entree. We forgot to take pictures because we ate the food so fast. The kittens only added to the experience, and outside seating is great. We will definitely be back!
What did they do to this place?Greek Salat with lamb and beef and a drink 27.99$.The woman queeked at me.All plastic (cutlery, plate…)Maybe the lettuce was fresh, anything else leftovers from friday maybe. That feta also old.Horrible Christmas music. If the food and the music did not make you sick, open the toilet door. I will never stop there again. Not even for gas.
This was my first time bringing my family to try their very first time’s Greek food, and what left a deeper impression on me than the food was the service at Mad Greek! English isn’t our native language, and my family are also religious vegetarians. Given these circumstances, understanding the unfamiliar menu was quite challenging, and we was stuck in front of the kiosk for a long time. Andrea, however, was like an angel to us. She patiently explained the dishes in detail and recommended options that suited us. It’s rare to receive such kind and sweet service in a busy restaurant, and I truly believe Andrea genuinely wants every customer to leave the restaurant with happiness and satisfaction. Thank you, Andrea, for making this family trip lunch such a wonderful experience! As for the food, I really enjoyed the pork chile verde burrito, with its flavorful and moist rice. The pork was tender and easy to chew, and the portion size was generous. In contrast, the lamb and beef gyro felt a bit bland, with the thinly sliced meat overcooked and dry. The fried zucchini and veggie quesadilla were hits with my family! The highly recommended strawberry milkshake was also good, but the blueberry flavor was rather ordinary. Overall, I’d give the food a 3.5 out of 5, but the service absolutely deserves a 10!
Tsaziki sauce on the Gyros makes these Gyros! The pita taste homemade and fried with a little crisp to the bread. The meat was seasoned well. The Strawberry shake has enough fresh 🍓 to add to the other strawberry flavor so that it blends very well! We didn't need the combo meal because gyros a la carte satisfied everyone. We wanted to fill up on gyros and not side dishes because the gyros were so good! Their location has grown over the years, but they haven't gotten fancier, just more room to accommodate people. It was pricier than what I think ot should have been, but everywhere is because of this wackadoodle economy. The a la carte gyros was about $12.50 and the shake was $7+. Great place to stop before or after Vegas.
DELICIOUS! It might have been the fact that I was driving through and it was due time for a late night snack, or the fact that this is hands down the best Greek food on the west coast, but I was very satisfied with the mouth watering selection of classic Greek cuisine they offer. We got the gyro, the pastrami burger, the Greek salad, the walnut baklava and some fries. Definitely recommend stopping by on your way through!
wow, my first time here and the food was so good. Large Gyro and Souvlaki was more than enough but then to have fried zucchini fries…! They were so good! Two of us shared one. The chicken siuvlaki was done just right, and fast service thanks to order kiosk! Clean and plenty of room to sit and enjoy our food!
Instead of eating when we got to Vegas, we decided we wanted to see if there was something along the way. This is when I came across The Mad Greek and it definitely did not disappoint. The Lamb and Beef Gyro was excellent and the service was amazing. I would like to see a lamb and rice plate; however, the food was still amazing! This will definitely be a stop on each trip to Vegas!
3 minutes ago New I went here with my vegan wife and simple but picky son. My wife loved her spicy hummus wrap with no feta and fried zucchini. My son has a bean and cheese burrito and enjoyed every bite. I had chicken souvlaki and it was absolutely amazing. We also shared dolmades which was also vegan!!! 10/10 will stop here every time we drive from Vegas they even offer a 20% military discount
I've driven past this spot many, many times. I've never had a gyro from any restaurant, so I decided to give it a shot. I got your standard lamb and beef gyro, a side of spicy humus. The gyro was full of flavor and sauce was packed with delicious dill. The humus was fresh and the pita was so soft and warm. If you haven't tried it, you have to.
Coffee milkshake was really good and the baklava is good truck drivers with a commercial Driver's license. Get a free drink and a percentage off their meal. I don't remember if it was 10 or 25%
On a recent drive from Vegas to California, a coworker's recommendation led me to a fantastic little spot just off the interstate. I decided to try the lamb gyro, along with some fries and a strawberry shake. The gyro was exceptionally flavorful and well-prepared. It made the short detour completely worthwhile, and I'll be sure to stop again on my next trip.
Wow was I excited when I realized this place had finally reopened. The long anticipated wait was worth it. The food selection and quality is mouth watering. The service is spot on. When you dine here you feel welcomed and appreciated. Next time you're driving through Baker to or from a Vegas trip this is a must place to curb your appetite. I highly recommend eating here without any reservation. Trust me you'll be thanking me
This restaurant is old but its clean. Even if you dine in they put your order in plastic container. They used to be on the plate but I guess they change to plastic after covid. The Chile verde with eggs and potato was pretty good and salad taste good too. I tried the walnut baklava but not my favorite. Ill come back again if I go back to Vegas next time.
Staff is very friendly. It was busy and raining Sunday evening which made it a nice place to get a good warm meal. Did I mention staff was very friendly? Food was good too. I would recommend The Mad Greek to all you hungry travelers.
Okay, so I can’t say too much about the full food menu, because this is normally a stop for their amazing strawberry shake. I have had the baklava too, which is also super yum. We did also grab breakfast here once, and it was good too. Oh, and I guess we grabbed gyros once too.. so good! Not a lot of dining options in the area, but we literally stop at Mad Greek every time we go to Las Vegas for their shakes!
We absolutely adored our experience at The Mad Greek Cafe. The staff were so friendly and helpful, the chicken gyro and baklava were delectable, and the kitties in the outdoor seating area were so adorable and perfect. Will absolutely be making it a staple anytime we’re out in the Mojave or on the 15!
Stopped here on one of my many trips from LA to Vegas. Seen the sign for years but never stopped. I have to say it really is a shame I never had earlier. This place is fantastic, really loved my wrap the veggies tasted exceptionally fresh for the middle of the dessert 🤣. They also have a pretty large menu of lots of types of food as well. I may have to change my mid dessert rest stop!
Location is perfect for a lunch break on log drive from Las Vegas to LA. The Greek food is authentic, and the self-service is efficient. Conveniently located near gift shops and a gas station, an ideal rest stop at Braker. Also, besides the tallest thermometer in the world. Highly recommended!
This has been my go to stop from Vegas on the way back home to California for the past 22 years. For its location, the food is surprisingly good. My go to is the lamb and beef gyro, side of zucchini sticks, and of course tzatziki sauce. Fries are really good as well. Burgers are not bad. Shakes are good. I don't recommend the smoothies though. Greek atmosphere all the way with ample seating and clean restrooms. If you're reading this, I would imagine you've never been here and I can confidently tell you it is worth the stop.
Stumbled here by accident. Happy accident!! I ordered the hummus wrap and rice. The wrap was huge. No skimp on toppings! And the pita was nice and warm. It was so beautiful it broke my heart to return it because I hadn't realized it had feta cheese on it. I explained what I did and they fixed it no problem!! My mistake and they didn't charge me to change the order. Will definitely come back
A little lunch brunch gyro and zucchini fries. This place is such a gem on any trip from Vegas down to LA. I stop every time I can hear both coming and going. Food is so much better than anything else around this area. So worth the stop!!!
Love the food, the amount, the quality and the taste. But what I loved the most is the service. Because my al pastor meat was a little brown, they provided me with an extra plate of meat and another burger and fries to compensate with the missed order.
Rhis place is a haven in the desert. We stop as often as we can as we pass through. They have made some big upgrades since we last stopped. Self service kiosk for ordering, and they give you a pager when your food is ready. Today we ordered the chicken souvlaki meal and the beef/lamb gyro meal and an order of falafel and tahini. The chicken is so flavorful with the tangy lemon and oregano. The rice is so savory and it comes in a pint size cup so you won’t leave hungry. The falafel is cooked to perfection soft in the middle without being dry. The gyro meat is shaved thin and plentiful. Stopping here is never a bad idea.
I had the Onas burger. It was pretty good $17.99 and a chocolate shake 799 so out the door I think I spent like $27 for one person a little steep for me. I think I’m gonna have to go home to cook next time. Best place to eat in the middle of the desert. Closed for a year and a half due to FEAR glad they are back open.
The Mad Greek did not disappoint. The food was excellent — the gyros were incredibly flavorful and perfectly cooked, the hummus was fresh and delicious, and the baklava had the ideal balance of sweetness without being overpowering. Every bite felt authentic and well prepared. Definitely worth a stop if you’re craving solid Greek food.
Came here for lunch on our way home. There was a long line for people ordering with the cashier so we used the kiosk. It was perfect, the kiosk didn't replace someone it only augmented their order taking. We ate out in the cat patio. And enjoyed every minute of the experience.
If you are on your way to Las Vegas or just passing by Baker,CA. This place is a Must, It has been my favorite place for over 20 Years. Parking: Let’s start with plenty of Parking in front, Back and other side If you have a Truck or RV you will have no problems pulling in and out with extra parking next to the property to the north of the restaurant. Food: The food is Fresh and with flavor something that is hard to find on the road, if you pick anything on the menu you will love it because is based on just the most popular items, my favorite is the lamb gyro and the roast chicken served with fresh fries. 🍺 🍺 🍺 🍺 BEER is served. If you have time for one cold one at hottest place on earth, you will find imported and local beer. Service: Service is just amazing but must important FAST and Friendly yes Fast, as a truck Driver I don’t have time to waste and this is the reason I always stop at The Mad Greek. And Friendly Because is just a culture that comes from the Top Down, if the owner are in you will get the same treatment if the owners are out, no difference, But if the owners are in You will definitely know. Location: If you are like me that Loves CLEAN Restaurant You till not be disappointed, this location in like others in Baker have plenty of space I will say about 5,000 sf counting the outside seating. Large tables and good distance from each others.
The Mad Greek in Baker is one of those places that’s become a tradition for me. Every time I’m driving back and forth between Lancaster and Las Vegas, I make it a point to stop here to eat—it’s almost a must at this point. The food is consistently good, fresh, and comforting. I usually go for the Greek classics, and they never disappoint. Portions are generous, flavors are spot on, and it’s the perfect stop to refuel during a long drive. The gyros are flavorful, the sides are satisfying, and everything comes out hot and fast. The atmosphere is casual and welcoming, and the staff is friendly, even when they’re busy. It can get crowded during peak travel times, but that’s part of its charm and popularity. Overall, The Mad Greek is a reliable, tasty stop that I look forward to every trip. Definitely a road-trip staple for me.
My usual stop on my way home from Vegas. I always get the chicken lemon soup with warm bread. Comfort food. Clean bathroom and fun relaxed atmosphere.
Everything was delicious! We ordered the chicken gyro, al pastor gyro & zucchini sticks. Highly recommend the strawberry milkshake, baklav & cookies too! Big truck parking lot just down the street. Show your CDL to receive 20% off your order.
Delicious food with giant portions! The shakes are a must have, made with fresh fruit and not overly sweet. There are ample digital boards to self order or visit the register in person. Service was quick and there is great vibes all around. Very helpful and friendly staff!
We discovered this restaurant after seeing it on an episode of Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives and knew we had to stop by. Even though we’ve passed it many times, this was our first visit, and it did not disappoint. We were warmly greeted by the manager/owner, who was incredibly friendly, informative, and attentive. He even surprised my daughter with a complimentary dessert. We ordered the Al Pastor Gyro, feta fries, and fried zucchini. Everything was fresh, flavorful, made to order. The prices were very affordable with the generous portion of food and I appreciated the quick service too. I would consider this a casual, cozy, and family friendly restaurant with lots of charm. We needed a big space to park our truck with a trailer and this place provided plenty of open parking. This is easily the best food option in the area, offering many delicious and healthy options. I’ll definitely be recommending this spot to friends and family, and we’ll be back the next time we’re in town. Thank you to the staff for the wonderful food and hospitality!
Food is great. Nice lunch spot on your way to or from Las Vegas. Watch out for the birds outside. They will steal your food if left unattended. 😁
We always stop at The Mad Greek in Baker CA when we’re traveling. Awesome food and generous portions! The staff is amazing and the environment is a little piece of Greece. Great shakes and Greek desserts. They even serve breakfast!
passing through from our trip from Nevada and decided to have ledge at the Mad Greek. Food was great and service was fast. servers were friendly definitely will stop again when passing through. if you're ever passing through stop and give them a try.
This is always my stop going to California. The food is incredible and there's plenty of it. I love their shakes. They are made with fresh fruit and a must have. Also the zucchini sticks are yummy. The place is always clean and the service is prompt.
We stop here every time we leave vegas, so a few times a year for the last 16. We always get the gyro sandwich and strawberry shake. The staff is always great and the food is delicious every time. If you have any issues, they address it quickly and go above and beyond to make it right.
Stopped in at The Mad Greek in Baker, California during a motorcycle trip with a buddy who insisted we have lunch there—he called it amazing, and he wasn’t wrong. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted by an attendant (possibly the owner?) who was super knowledgeable about the menu and clearly passionate about the food, one of the staff members, helped prepare our meals and offered some great suggestions since it was my first time there. The place is well-stocked with a wide variety of delicious Greek dishes and desserts, and everything we had was fresh and flavorful. Everyone was friendly, the atmosphere was welcoming, and the restaurant itself was clean and comfortable. It’s definitely a hidden gem—if you’re traveling through California on the way to Vegas, don’t miss this spot. Totally worth the stop.
It is an amazing place, I’m fond of Greek guys. I passed here hundreds of times but usually it was very late, this is the first time I had a chance to visit and order. I’m Turkish Muslim so I hesitated to get lamb, preferred chicken it was really good. Staff is amazing, I loved the atmosphere too 😅 very nice place. If halal food offered here I guarantee all my company drivers almost 60 good eaters will eat here 🤭 Thank you so much offering service in the middle of nowhere 👏🙏🫡 parking opportunities are also great for my 18 wheeler 🙏 there’s also 20 percent bonus for CDL holders and veterans, I should have 40 but only one is valid 🤣
Best Chicken Gyro I’ve ever had! Everything cooked perfectly, chicken is seasoned well, pita is nice and soft (not dry like most), and the tzatziki sauce was flavorful, garlicky and dill filled (just how I like it!). We also got their famous strawberry shake. Normally, I don’t like strawberry shakes but this one you could tell they made with fresh strawberries. So yummy! The guy who served us, also was great! He told us a crazy story about him being in the area when record heat hit at 128°. Unfortunately, I did not catch his name but maybe the story will help the restaurant determine who it was. The decor inside was very on theme and they had a whole bunch of Greek desserts too that looked delicious but didn’t have the room for. Overall, super satisfied with our visit. No complaints here! So bummed it’s not closer to home.
Strawberry milkshake 5star!!! Over all 3.8 star. Rest the food solid 3. Place kind little over priced $45 for food shown. Domlmas okay well seasoned, lamb gyro was good Kronos style meat rather basic far from the claimed best in US but good. Rice was surprisingly good! Zucchini fries were good but missing some season in the batter. Tzataki was real fresh tasting. Baklava looks great haven't tried yet it'd for home.
This is one of those: "If you know, you know" kind of places......been out in the middle of the desert since the 1970s........its been a pit stop for myself and my buddies forever........great place to grab a burger and fries, cool our feet for for a second before either running to or, fleeing from Las Vegas.......to anyone unfamiliar, the prices are good and, the food is even better.......you'll enjoy it.
The food is delicious. Love the gyros and pastrami burgers. The fries are breaded or something and so good! Restrooms were a little messy so only 4 stars. Can get trailers and RVs in easily.
We are here for lunch and dinner. Worth the stop and stretch out legs. Really great gyros. Nice to see this place open. Meaning to eat here for a few years. Grill meat is favorable and well seasoned. Amazing yogurt and dill sauce. Tasty seasoning rice. Zucchini crispy breading with a good crunch. Parking lots are all bust up. Don't sit close to the cashier counter when super busy. Cashiers are yelling order numbers. The place gets busy but food comes out quickly. Friendly cashiers. Clean restroom. Love the Greek music playing in the background
We visited on a very busy Saturday during Peak lunchtime hours - staff was friendly and helpful. Ordering from the kiosk was simple. Waited about 15 minutes for food, but it was fresh and they were busy. Lobby was as clean as you'd expect with the amount of customers in there. Great atmosphere. The Gyro is nothing to write home about ,the Tzatziki was tasty, but I don't think I'd spend $20 on a Gyro meal again. For an average Gyro the price is a little steep. I upgraded my Fries to Feta, which were amazing, fresh with a nice crisp. There Hummas and Baklava is something I'd definitely come back for.
Food was very good and a much more enjoyable experience then fast food on our road trip. The Date Shake is a MUST! We always stop at the nearby Cima Mining Company gas station for a date shake as it’s advertised all along the highway but the Mad Greek does it way better and a much better presentation as well. Service was quick, almost as fast as a fast food restaurant. Decorations around the restaurant made the experience memorable. Would be a 5 star if it wasn’t for the price. We spent $40 for 2 gyro wraps (not a meal) a shake and a fountain drink.
Weather on way to Vegas or coming home, this place rocks! Clean restroom while you wait for some yummy hummus and fresh pita, the almond cookies and baklava are a fresh treat as well. I highly recommend this place! Fast service and great food. Let's keep this place alive in Baker!
Road Show Quality ! Great Gyros, Tasty 👅 Burger 🍔. They compete against the major fast foods for all the roadies doing a snatch and grab as you fuel ⛽️ and hit the road. Had some time and decided to lose 40 min just to shake the cob webs off. Milk Shakes Quality and Various Flavors !!! Good place to stop and eat Also can order to go through drive through. Kiosk order system for fast customer service during the rush hours.
An interesting spot. Big menu, the food was tasty. Our mistake was in visiting during the lunch rush. It was a madhouse! Can't blame them for that, but while they tried to make things work, it didn't work all that well. They gave us a buzzer for the food, and said "it will buzz twice, once for your food and then for your drinks". when it buzzed for food, the person took the buzzer, so I had to stand by the drink counter to wait for the drinks. My family finished their food well before the drinks were ready. The drink person was also manning the drive-through window. Not great. The food order wasn't filled per our order (onions included when we ask for no onions). Again, not a big deal, and due to the crush of people. We enjoyed it, but I won't stop by again if the place is that busy.
Surprisingly good food. We had breakfast. One burrito, one scramble plate. Big portion, freshly cooked, reasonable wait time. Although the building was old and a little worn, it was clean and bright. Will definitely come again!
Stopped in for lunch for a quick bite to eat before heading into Vegas for the weekend. Fairly busy spot. They serve different types of gyros. I had Chicken Souvlaki meal. These are chicken kebabs on pita bread along with French fries and a drink. Also ordered a Greek Salad. Fresh ingredients and made to order. Food didn't take long to make. You order ahead of time, find a booth to sit in and then get paged when ready. Very filling and very satisfying as Greek food certainly is for me. They also carry freshly baked desserts as well. It's a nice spot to be able to sit down and escape the heat for a bit. This place is right off the freeway and across the street from the Country Store. Very convenient.
Mad Greek If you are driving past Baker on freeway 15 and looking for lunch, the Mad Greek is a great place to go. The restaurant is clean, well lit, has a walk-up counter where you order and pick up your food serve yourself drink station and has plenty of seating. It is a short wait for your food to be prepared and is nice and hot when your buzzer goes off. I ordered a Lamb & Beef Gyro. Very tasty with the mixed meat, lettuce, tomatoes, and onions, served on pita bread with Zaziki (Cucumber-Yogurt) on the side. My wife was equally impressed with her Falafel Pita Wrap. I included homemade falafel with lettuce, tomatoes, and onions served on pita bread with Tahini on the side. The meal comes with a drink and fries, and those fries were really good. They are coated with something yummy, fried just right so they are extra crispy on the outside and soft but fully cooked on the inside. The baklava was good, but a little dry. I've had better. A little pricey perhaps at a little over $50 with tip, but far more satisfying than your regular chain burger or taco stand.
Ok so my reviews are open and based on three things, food taste and quality, cost and the professionalism of staff. Food was mediocre at best. Me and my wife stopped here on the way to California. We got the chicken gyros(2) and (1) large Greek salad and it cost us over 60 bucks. So cost definitely doesn't add up to the quality of food given. The made our order wrong twice. After remaking it twice it still came back wrong. We didn't say anything after that. We just ate it as was. The staff seemed very busy and not very customer friendly. Over all I definitely won't be coming back or telling anyone I know to go try it.
It's been too long since we visited The Mad Greek cafe. The feeling of nostalgia made me stop at Baker, CA, home of the tallest thermometer. Sadly, what I remembered about the famous strawberry shake is no longer here. The shake was good, not like before when they had chunks of strawberries, and the styrofoam cup was a good 24 oz, for $5.00. Now, it's a 16 oz plastic cup with strawberry bits, with a half of a sliced strawberry on top of whipped cream,$7.99. The pistachio baklava was yummy, but I could not taste the pistachio. The almond cookie was yummy. I won't be back.
Let's first define the tech how scale 5 : out of the world (<5%) 4 : Great food. Definitely will go again 3 : average food. 2 : bad 1 : terrible food Rating: 3* Nothing special. Ordered cheese Quesadilla & grilled cheese for the kids. For adults chicken Quesadilla, chicken breast sandwich and milkshake. Each item was very average as you'd expect in a roadside joint. Grilled cheese was definitely the worst. Everything else was meh.
Out in the middle of nowhere, but absolutely worth the stop! If you’re headed to Nevada, don’t pass up the chance to eat here. The restaurant itself is simple, but the food packs a big flavor punch. The strawberry shake was amazing—sweet, creamy, and refreshing. The gyro and hamburger we tried were both mouthwatering and cooked to perfection. A true roadside gem we’ll remember!
This is the best Gyro you can get out here in Baker. This place is like an oasis in the desert. I'm very impressed at how well it's kept inside. Clean tables, great Greek music set the ambiance. The interior is bright and inviting. They have upgraded the interior with touchscreens that you can place your orders with. Very intuitive and easy to use. There was an employee there that was super helpful and friendly. I got a beef lamb gyro and a chicken gyro. Standard fare, the beef lamb had lots of flavor, the chicken was just ok. Now the Tzatziki sauce OMG so freaking good! I ended up licking the container it came in clean. I have no shame if it's that good lol. I normally try to not stop when traveling back and forth from Cali/Vegas but I am so glad that my girl had to pee really bad and we had to stop. Please do yourself a favor and stop by and pick up a gyro you won't be disappointed!
Had decent gyro meat—juicy, well-seasoned, pita was good. The problem? Tzatziki wasn't even on it. No mention on the menu, no heads up at the register, so I assumed it came standard. It didn't—they charged extra after the fact. Fries were fine, ketchup given when asked, but the whole thing felt sneaky, especially with that pre-tip screen before I tasted a thing. Two stars. Just include the sauce.
Zucchini was horrible old oil $8 $4.80 for small drink $1.80 for ranch to go with my zucchini I'll pass they way over priced but my kids said there gyros were good I wanted a piece of baklava nope! so it can continue to sit there behind the shelf
The food was cold and barely edible and way overpriced. There is no service. You have to punch your order into a kiosk keyboard and then wait until you are called to pick it up. The food was sloppily served on a paper plate with plastic utensils. As for atmosphere, a bunch of chipped plaster statues and furniture that with ripped and warn upholstery. I have seen abandoned buildings in better shape. After driving a hundred miles and reading billboard after billboard describing the fantastic must stop restaurant, I can only say,"what a major disappointment"!
A Greek place that serves the worst spanikopita on the planet which is like dog food in a store bought pie crust - not even phyllo. Truly inedible. But it's the only place in town across from the gas station in Baker on the road to Vegas. It would have no business otherwise.
Of course it’s busy. Was so hyped as I love a good gyro. When I pulled up to the window it took an additional 20 minutes to pay and then when they brought my food I was missing the only thing that I came here for which was a gyro lol. Zucchini sticks were garbage. Spend your money on menu development vs more billboards
Drive-through service needs serious improvement. What used to be our quick and reliable first stop on road trips has now become a place we choose to skip. The employee working the drive-through lacked patience and basic customer service skills. We had to repeat our very simple order multiple times, and we still felt the need to double-check what was entered. Unfortunately, our concern was justified. The order was entered incorrectly. When we politely asked if it could be made into a combo, as we had originally requested, she seemed irritated that we even asked. Mistakes happen, but attitude and professionalism make all the difference. In any customer-facing industry, this level of service is unacceptable. This employee would benefit from additional coaching on communication and customer care.
Food was not great in my opinion and Too pricey for the quantity and quality they’re giving. Chicken pieces in the souvlaki were so small and not at all like what’s advertised on the menu. Sauce is given in a takeaway packet. I ate proper dinner at a nice thai restaurant in the same price. This is Not worth it at all.
I rarely write negative reviews, but this experience deserves one. The food at Mad Greek Café in Baker was actually good fresh, flavorful, and exactly what you’d hope for on a desert stop. Unfortunately, the service completely ruined it. Andrea, who was taking orders up front, was shockingly rude. From the moment we approached the counter, she had a cold attitude, rolled her eyes repeatedly, and acted like taking our order was a personal inconvenience. Basic politeness was nowhere to be found. It’s one thing to be busy it’s another to be openly dismissive and unkind to paying customers. It’s disappointing because the kitchen clearly does its job well. But when the first point of contact treats guests with that level of attitude, it overshadows everything else. Good food can bring people in once. Good service is what makes them come back. Unfortunately, the service here was horrid.
This is what sell out and greed look like! Once a a unique and authentically delicious Greek food establishment founded by Michael Dabour, The Mad Greek-now under the leadership of Larry Dabour (his son), is an example of ugly capitalism where the only thing that matters is making the money. The food quality is what you would find at any other wannabe Greek restaurant, which is usually American food dressed up to act Greek. The tzatziki sauce, once SO Delicious, is now sold in plastic packets and tastes like ranch-and bad ranch at that. Newsflash to Larry: tzatziki sauce does not contain mayonnaise. I can understand adding items to the menu to attract the demographics of the new clientele, but I maintain that Michael is rolling over in his grave. The service, atmosphere, and food quality are all now compromised and quite simply just gross. What used to be a family tradition both to and from California has ended. We have no need to divert off I 15 anymore to eat the same food that is served at any dime a dozen gyro shop. It's too bad that tradition and legacy have been sacrificed for making a buck. When it becomes nothing more than a numbers game, everyone loses.
