Opiniones de Agi's Counter Brooklyn
This is a lovely Hungarian restaurant with a warm and cozy atmosphere. Although the space is small, the vibe feels intimate and welcoming, and the staff are genuinely friendly and attentive, which makes the whole dining experience very comfortable. The food is well-executed and thoughtfully balanced. The chicken liver appetizer with crispy chips, celery, and pickled cherries was a standout — incredibly smooth and rich, while the cherries added just the right acidity to cut through the heaviness and leave a clean, satisfying finish. The pork chop was also very good. It was slightly on the firmer side, but the peach sauce paired with it beautifully, adding a subtle sweetness that kept the dish from feeling greasy. The fries were crispy and flavorful, though a bit salty — a minor issue that didn’t take away from the overall enjoyment. The biggest surprise was the New York cheesecake. Served with blueberry sauce and fresh blueberries, it wasn’t overly sweet at all. The fruit balanced the richness of the cheesecake perfectly, creating a light and elegant finish to the meal. Overall, this restaurant clearly excels at using fruit to balance rich flavors. A highly recommended spot if you’re looking for a refined and enjoyable Hungarian dining experience.
Wonderful little restaurant with amazing food and friendly staff. The food and drink is amazing. I've never seen Ovaltine on a menu and was very happy with the dirty Ovaltine! The tuna confit sando was super delicious and the bread was so soft. Definitely need to try the hot sauce as well, it's spicy and smoky. The atmosphere is very chill with nice little trinkets on the the walls (but not too much). The staff is super friendly and accommodating. A must try!
The vibe at AGI’S CORNER is so relaxed & the service impeccable. The menu offerings are seasonally “sensitive”, varied and not overwhelming in number or price! The dishes are aesthetically pleasing to the eye, scintillating to the tastebuds, nutritious, not skimpy & respectful of their cultural heritage. Heartbroken beets (homemade chamomile vinegar, mild tasty, smooth blue cheese), chicken liver mousse (homemade crackers off the chart perfect pairing), chicken parikas (grandmother AGI’S recipe we were told), roast hake, Bableves (hearty healthy tasty Hungarian bean soup) w buttered bread AND cheescake with delicate fresh fruit were shared AND all enjoying were amazed at the quality of each dish! It was great to meet team members so welcoming, so engaging. Mack & team members we met (Amanda, Sara, Nico, David, Mason, Lewis) were professional, friendly, seemed to be genuinely engaged and each contributed to our very memorable, positive experience. I am sending gift certificates to my children so they can experience AGI’S CORNER and if as pleased as their mother, I hope they will share the love and introduce others to this hidden gem!
I can't remember the last time I enjoyed a meal as much as I did this one. First of all, the heartbroken beets, could have eaten only that all night! The Chicken Paprikas was delicious! And that cheesecake! Oh, goodness! Also, our server, Amanda was a sweetheart and was very good at helping us decide which meal by explaining the ingredients and flavors. (Who knew blue cheese and beets might work!) Also very pleasant Nico, Devon, and Sarah! We sat at the bar so had a chance to say hi to the Chefs, Mason, Louis, and David, and Our Sous Chef , "Mac" (who also explained some about the dishes!) was marvelous! The room was warm and friendly, great experience! I'll be back to NYC for this culinary experience as soon as I can! Yes, Chef!
Had a delicious brunch here! We got the tuna melt (obviously), deviled eggs, pumpkin soup, spanakopita babka, and the caraway Caesar. All dishes were phenomenal and delicious. Staff was very friendly and Jordan the owner is lovely. The caraway chocolate chip cookie is also 10/10. Can’t wait to come back here!
A great neighborhood spot. Service was LOVELY!! Interior was comfy and homey. I came because I heard there was a good tuna melt here. And while I would not call myself a tuna melt expert, I do love a tuna melt. I am not joking when I say this was the best tuna melt I've ever had. The tuna - excellent; the mustard, pickles, slaw and peppers on the side added the perfect bute and acid; and that bread...it made the sandwich. Really so delicious. It was a cold day so I also had the nokedli soup. Filled with little dumplings and loads of chicken (and a little more celery that I like, but...), it was hearty and delicious. The obscene amount of dill tipped it from being good to being a memorably drlicious bowl. I will be back often for that tuna melt or the soup. Maybe both at the same time.
This place was friendly, warm, and just plain fun. My girlfriend and I came here for our 2 year anniversary brunch/lunch and left giddy. Every dish or snack was delicious and vibrant. This place has the best tuna melt I’ve ever had by orders of magnitude. The country club plate was a personal favorite because I love to nosh. The general profiles of most things were similar across the board (funky, salty, sour, fishy) but everything had its own distinct flavor and never got boring. The service was attentive and friendly but not overbearing, and everything came out incredibly fast.
Excellent Hungarian food! House smoked salmon was heavenly. Caraway Cesar is something else - tart and creamy radicchio. Sandwich of the day was pastrami and beef tongue… Tuna melt was fine. Caraway chocolate cookie is something you’ve never tasted or imagined before - we loved it. And a beet Bloody Mary - mama!!! Will be back.
Always a beautiful, satisfying meal! Caraway Caesar is one of the best Caesar salads I’ve had and I always go back for it. They’re very accommodating for my dietary restrictions, staff is so lovely, welcoming, and friendly. And of course the interior is absolutely stunning!Truly one of NYC’s gems. 💎
Lovely place in Brooklyn. Dining with on Hungarian, one Irish and two kiwis. Staff are awesome. Menu is small but accommodates all tastes and preferences. Granola is superb for breakfast/brunch. Has the Bologna sandwich with Brooklyn Lager, sensational. Staff were so good, attentive and not overbearing. Excellent menu knowledge and helpful. So glad we stopped by.
Such a great place! A creative take on traditional recipes, good value for money, professional and friendly team and owners! A must-visit place if you're going to the botanic garden or just happen to be around. Booking recommended, otherwise you might need to wait for a table. PS check the owner's cookbook - you might need to try repeating this at home.
I discovered Agi’s Counter after an influencer mentioned the business was struggling financially and encouraged people to support. Third time’s the charm- I tried to go twice before but arrived during their break (they’re closed from 3 to 5:30 PM), so definitely check the hours before heading over. I finally made it in on a Sunday when I was craving a tuna melt. I called ahead hoping to place a to-go order but they told me to just order it when I got there since it would be ready quickly. I ended up waiting at least 15 minutes, which I wouldn’t consider fast, but the tuna melt was absolutely delicious and I’d 100% order it again. I noticed the sides were slightly different from what I see in other photos, mine came with a full small pickle and a few peppers, while others seem to get coleslaw. Not a big deal, just a small inconsistency to note. From what I could see, business seemed to be doing well, which is great to see. I’m glad I finally got to try it and would come back just maybe not when I’m in a rush.
You probably weren’t thinking of getting the Celery Root Schnitzel, but I’m vegetarian so that’s what I got. It’s pretty good, a panko fried veg with sauce on top. Kudos for thinking outside of the box
Had a great lunch at Agis, the highlight was definitely the tuna sandwich which was spot on, with fresh tasting tuna and perfectly toasted bread. We also had the chicken sandwich which in my opinion was a miss, unwieldy and out of place on the menu. The reviews about the bathroom smell were not wrong, I took a photo of the candle because it smelled so good. Lastly the cheesecake was pretty solid, did not regret getting it. Would definitely come back for a quick lunch or brunch.
Visited on a Wed for late lunch. Menu is limited but what we ordered was excellent! Had the schnitzel chicken and tuna melt sandwiches. Coffee served was cold but I asked them to warm it up and they gave me a new hot cup of coffee! The cheese cake is a must have!! It’s one of the best I have ever had. Definitely worth a visit
Came here for Sunday brunch and loved it. Sunday hours run 10am–3pm, and it's been on my list forever because of the Michelin guide recommendation and so many awards that this restaurants has gotten. I came as a walk-in and waited about an hour. Reservations are definitely recommended on weekends, but the wait wasn’t too bad — I took a quick trip to the Brooklyn Botanic Garden right next door, which worked out perfectly. Their reservation system texts you when your table is ready What I ordered: • Fánk (Hungarian donut) — Sunday-only and goes fast. Light, soft, slightly sweet, and seasonal. Kind of reminds me of a challah texture • Sandwich special — mine was a pastrami beef tongue reuben; big flavor, generous portion. I love the mustard it came with • Tuna melt — griddled pullman bread, melty alpine cheddar, plus slaw and mustard. Super comforting. This is their signature, I liked it but I loved the pastrami more • Nokedli soup — tear-dropped dumplings in chicken broth; this was a bit oily so not sure I'd get this one again. Charming space, friendly team, and well-made comfort food. but Wait can be long but great spot for a relaxing Sunday brunch. For more NYC food recs, I’m on IG: @alice.likes.food
Small local eatery in Brooklyn. Intimate atmosphere with the dim lighting and limited seating. Recommend that you make a reservation. Really friendly staff that is knowledgeable about the menu. Food and wine were both delicious. I ordered the dinner special, the wild boar with berry reduction sauce. The wassermann franc red wine paired well with the main. To share, we had the summer squash. And my friend ordered the confit tuna melt. Very delicious and nicely toasted on the bread. A bit pricey of a dinner for two, but definitely a worthwhile experience.
Eastern European dinner at a Brooklyn restaurant that is recognized as a @michelinguide Bib Gourmand. Everything was yummy but heavier with the seasoning like I expected for this cuisine. It was definitely pricey and there was a non-discretionary 5% “kitchen living wage” that I’d really rather to be just added to the listed prices on the menu 🤔 Might try out their brunch next time as that seem to be more popular!
I came back to agis for brunch after scoring a reservation a month in advance and sadly had a lackluster experience.I hadn't been in over a year and wanted to support them. I'm sorry to say that it will be my last time. The menu and service had changed significantly. There's are a lot more sandwiches on the menu, no egg dishes and they got rid of the coveted devil eggs. The highlights of the meal were the small hash brown plate over sour cream, similar to a deconstructed latke and the candied grapefruit. The sandwich de jour was roast beef which was soaked in a plate of oil, one small slice of roast beef and many other flavorless textured veggies of sorts. I didn't taste any horseradish and for $20, I'd expect more meat. Probably should went with the tuna melt. The devil eggs are now called "jammy eggs" which was one soft boiled egg cut in half face down in a sea of mayo and green oil. We added chicken skin, thinking to add a salty bite, but it was more like a long, hard piece of bark. I used to LOVE the deviled eggs with anchovies, this was cold and not appetizing. I wish they'd bring back the old simplified menu, it was fantastic, and the warm hospitality. Overall we left disappointed, hungry and bummed by the outcome.
I don’t usually go out of my way to leave less than stellar reviews, but I’m genuinely really upset by how much I paid for the Palacsinta brunch. Egregiously expensive given the portions. Their brunch special (pictured) was $45, which included my main dish the size of a piece of cake, a shared (!!!!) app for the table, and a "splash" of juice or wine. Not even bottomless coffee. A la carte $25. When I tried double confirming the cost with the server (before ordering anything I should mention) she deadpanned "you can leave if you want." I thought the food would be worth it. Needless to say, I had to order a slice of babka because I was still hungry afterward. Partly annoyed by myself, partly this place is not worth it
