Opinions de Agi's Counter Brooklyn
wow this place slaps. loved the use or overuse of dill on the sausage plate, and the light coating of hollandaise, really let the ingridients shine through. the toast game is 100. the hash brown was amazing. and the deviled eggs were light and delicious. everything was perfect. can't wait to come for dinner
•Hashbrowns - this giant hashbrown was a thing of perfection! The crispy, flaky strings of potato rested on a layer of delicious horseradish sour cream and scallions. •Palacsinta - These Hungarian crepes were so dreamy covered in warm maple butter, fruit compote, and a hearty slab of melting butter. •Carawav Caesar - One of the best Caesar salads I have ever had! It was sprinkled with the most flavorful caraway seeds giving it a wonderful taste and texture. •Paprika Pork Sausage - A delicious breakfast plate with sunny side up eggs, sausage, dill, chives, and roasted onions. Definitely recommend stopping by here for brunch!
The food here is absolutely sensational. I couldn't even begin to tell you the vibrancy of flavors I experienced in each and every dish that hit the table. I can't believe the chef responsible for these incredible dishes is so young and gifted. Moreover, the ambiance is simple and stunning. The staff, like Ian and Jimmie, are kind, warm and informative. I had an amazing time at Agi's Counter. I feel so lucky to live so close to it and will be going back again and again and again.
Fantastic! Every dish we had was amazing! Chicken liver mousse Chicken schnitzel Pork shoulder Deviled eggs Caesar Cheesecake is a must Delicious wine What a special night! Thank you
I know this would be good based on reviews but I did not expect it to be this good! Everything was delicious. Probably the best cheesecake I have ever had.
Incredible…. Loved the Hungarian donuts (superb), the Ferdinand morning bun, and the coffee cake (made with rum soaked prunes and some rye) — everything here was truly excellent, and the staff was so friendly, especially the nice woman at the cashier who helped us decide between pastries (we ended up just ordering everything). We are picky and we highly recommend this place. The interior decorating is charming and well done, making the vibe cozy and vintage in an unpretentious, authentic way. Makes for such a fun breakfast/brunch
There’s always something more I want to try at Agi’s so I’ve hesitated to contribute my own review but the time has come. This little gem is conveniently located close to my work and coming in here during my break has always felt like a warm hug. Often I take advantage of when it’s empty and post up with a book and get some coffee. Even when I only come in for coffee, the staff always ensures my water glass is full and never makes me feel unwelcome. On the days I am prepared to treat myself I will order something off the menu for lunch or a baked good to go. I think I was moved to write a review because I love the summer menu so much! But truly, any time of year that you come in you will find that every item on the menu is so delicious and meticulously prepared. Sometimes the options seem simple, sometimes strange, but in general I’ve found that everything is served in a special way that you’d never think to do for yourself. I’ve been treated to everything from a novelty straw in my iced coffee to a piece of toast served on vintage tableware and always a full bottle of water just for myself.
Came here for Sunday brunch and was delighted! The space is super cozy and cute 🥰 I love the front counter space that is bathed in sunlight. You can also sit on the side counter and watch the baristas do their magic. The food is just the right portion to try a little bit of everything because you will definitely want to 🤤 I want to come back for more!! We ordered the pogasca, tuna melt, dressed deviled eggs, hash browns, and donuts (which are available Sundays only). Pogasca - cheesy, soft, savory biscuit filled with a runny fried egg, dill, and cheddar. I loved every bite of this Tuna melt - light and well balanced tuna salad (earthy celery + juicy tuna) between 2 slices of beautifully toasted bread. You know, crisp on the outside, soft on the inside Hash browns - super crispy and super thin strips of potato on top of thick sour cream and scallion ribbons. I usually prefer a commercialized hash brown texture (think mcdonalds) but this was so good too! Especially the sour cream. Deviled eggs - Nothing too special but who doesn’t love a deviled egg? Just hope you’re into dill! Donuts (butter and jam on the side) - Warm and cozy. like a little hug in your mouth. The dough itself is very pillowy. Yeasty but more like a beignet than a Krispy Kreme donut. If you’re like me and like desserts that aren’t too sweet, this is divine. Coffee egg cream fizz - carbonated creamy coffee. The server said it’s an NYC classic? I have never heard of it 🤷🏻♀️ so I ordered it. And fizzy coffee is not a flavor/texture combination I ever expected but as a previously uninitiated, it’s strange…but good. Mimosa - it’s a good standard mimosa!
DELICIOUS! DELICIOUS! DELICIOUS! Such a cute spot for a date night. They only serve dinner Wednesday-Friday. Make reservations to ensure a spot. There were no open tables, but still had a very intimate vibe. The food was out of this world! I highly recommend trying the Cabbage patch as an appetizer. Seriously so yummy. I also had the Pork Collar. The glazing of the Pork was mouth watering good! You MUST save room for dessert. We had the cheesecake and Parliament donut! YUM!
Their kitchen turns out consistently excellent food. The cuisine surpassed expected excellence. They cook well enough but design brilliantly. Whoever headed the restaurant demonstrated real hospitality. I was compelled to give five stars after my visit.
The food is amazing, the servers are amazing, and the atmosphere is the cherry on top. I’ve been a fan since I moved to the neighborhood a few years ago and this has become my go to spot to take parents and people from out of town. I recently ordered a whole cheesecake for a trip to go visit a friend and the pick up was so easy and everyone in the restaurant was so kind and accommodating and the cheesecake itself was out of this world. If you haven’t made the trip to Agi’s yet, I sure hope you start making better decisions!
@lydieats 💕 Started off with the biscuit sandwich with egg and cheese. Super fluffy with the bun soaking up the sauce inside deliciously. I LOVED the crepes 😋 They were drenched in maple syrup with a huge chunk of butter. It’s def familiar tasting but a combo you cant go wrong with. The hash brown is mind blowing. Its the crispiest bite ever 💯 It sits on top of horseradish sour cream and scallions which gives it a nice sharp kick. Wish it had more sauce so I recommend adding the trout roe for added flavor. We wanted to try the sausage so asked the kitchen to add it as a side for us. It’s a denser, meatier bite, giving the entire meal a nice hearty layer. Food is special, service is wonderful, all enjoyed in a charming space. Counter seating feels like you need to start scribbling poems in a artsy fit. The deeper you go into the restaurant, the energy changes to be more intimate. It feels like an effortless dinner party with candle lit tables feeling perfect so bring someone special to enjoy together!
What a spot. Everything was incredible, this is probably on my top 3 NYC places. The beetroot tartare and deviled eggs are to die for. The cheesecake memorable. Original, full of flavours, congratulations to the chef! I also love the ambiance. We went for dinner and we’re worried it would feel too much like a brunch spot, but the place is actually great for dinner with just the right ambiance. Will be back for sure
Having previously lived in Hungary, my wife and I were excited to eat here while visiting our Hungarian friend in NY. We had the privilege of meeting the owner and head chef, who was extremely down-to-earth and completely humble. The food was outstanding! From presentation to flavor to portion sizes. We were a table of 4 and we shared three apps (chicken mousse liver, chips and dip, and deviled eggs with anchovies), two mains (both of us got the chicken paprikas), two desserts, and a bottle of wine.
We had another fantastic experience here! The food was excellent as always, and Nico, our server, made the night even better. He was personable, knowledgeable, and timed everything perfectly. He even sold us on a great bottle of wine that paired beautifully with our meal. The pork chop is a must-order for a reason perfectly cooked, flavorful, and consistently outstanding. Between the incredible food and Nico’s attentive service, this place continues to be a favorite.
Oh my Agi’sssss! Homey and delicious! The deviled eggs were die for! I usually don’t set my foot on hash browns, but Agi’s hash browns won my stomach! The homemade biscuits were soft, fluffy and buttery, perfect stuffed with a runny egg. The Caesar salad sounded nothing special, but tasted insanely fresh, crunchy, juicy and cheesy! My only complaint was that they don’t serve the famous cheesecake at weekend brunch;/ I guess I have to go back on Thursday or Friday!
We loved everything about this place! The food is nearly impeccable, the service was perfectly balanced and attentive. The vibe and decor is so thoughtful and well executed. We ordered every single dish on the menu except for the pork, dumplings, and toast and absolutely loved it. My only note is that the pastrami was fattier than expected (20-30% fat) for my taste, but the flavors were still incredible. I would come here again and again.
Agi’s Counter has got to have some of the best brunch in Brooklyn with the friendliest service and cutest cafe space! Everyone here is great and so helpful. They make lovely recommendations including the lavender tea which is delicious. The true show stopper of my visit was the Hungarian crepes which I learned are called palacsinta. The seasonal summer filling was a strawberry black pepper jam and they were topped with fresh berries and cream. They were absolutely out of this world. The perfect balance of sweet and savory that will have you craving more. The tuna melt is also incredibly tasty. I truly cannot recommend the brunch at Agi’s enough.
Great tuna melt. Flavorful and well-made. The server was super friendly and went out of their way to help us out. Would come back for the food and the hospitality!
I went to Agi’s on a rainy Friday afternoon, around 3:30 which is when the kitchen begins to close for their evening service. Because of this, the restaurant was almost empty besides two others at the counter. The atmosphere was so cozy, the music was great and while I usually don’t like being seating at a high top, I found everything so quaint and comfy. I had the: Dirty ovaltine- ok, quite possibly one of my all time fave warm bevis?? Insane and the most perfect thing to have on a cold rainy day Rye Choc chip cookie- the rye flavor really comes through, which is great news if you’re someone who loves rye. I’m not, but still enjoyed the cookie- especially dunked in the dirty ovaltine. Despite not loving the rye, I would get it again because it was a perfect texture, and the salt and chocolate were so good it had the rye growing on me by the last bite. Tuna melt- a top 3 tuna melt for me. The bread is so buttery, and the pickles??? I hate pickles, but will try them every time they’re served to me hoping these will be the pickles that change me. It never is, until now. THESE pickles. My only complaint is that I wish it came with some fries or some kinda side bite. But the cabbage slaw and everything was 10/10. Also, the bathroom is incredible??? The candle burning was amazing, pads, flossers and mints were available on a fancy bar cart- okay luxe. I’ve been putting off trying this place because I heard it can get really busy, so I’m glad my first time was at this off-peak time to be able to take in the atmosphere and do some reading. Excited to come back with a friend and eat my way through the rest of the menu!
Yummy spot ! Chicken liver mousse is fiyaaaa. I know everyone talks about the tuna sandwich; it wasn't necessarily mind blowing but it definitely was good. The chicken liver mousse was fantastic though the bread that it is on is sooo good with the amarena cherries and the quality of the liver. Super super good
A cute place with the nicest friendliest server. A special thank you to the guy with curly dark hair and really cool eye glasses. He didn’t wait on us so didn’t catch his name but he was so welcoming and I’m grateful. The restaurant is quaint and cozy with most of the space being a literal counter which I found delightful. The food is beautiful as evidenced by these photos. We arrived after breakfast but before dinner so the menu was limited. We ordered the green devils, deviled eggs with anchovies on one and pickles on the other. Both were wonderful but we both preferred the pickles which were exquisite. The maple beet shrub was the most interesting and delightful part of the experience, an usual fizzy drink heavy on the herb notes - refreshing and frankly a fascinating drink! I loved it- in the summertime, it is the ultimate cool-down. Dill is the herb of choice here. Indeed dill occupied a prominent place on beet dip which accompanied perfectly crisp chips- the trout roe was a nice touch. Lovely starter. I was excited to try the Hungarian crepes which, according to the menu online were filled with citrus custard, cara cara orange, almonds and soft cream. Alas, they only had blueberry pancakes available. I absolutely love citrus cream affairs and not a fan of blueberries yet these pancakes, soft , thin and fluffy were Proustian, evoking vivid memories of my childhood an ocean away. I enjoyed them immensely- totally worth it! I totally understand that things online don't always translate into the real world, ingredients aren’t available, deliveries are late etc. so I 100% understand not getting the orange cream pancakes but frankly that sounded absolutely outstanding. This is the first New Yorker recommended restaurant that I have tried. And I can see why. It’s chic, friendly and beautiful. A nice place to take a date…
Small and unassuming restaurant serving Hungarian - Jewish inspired cuisine We went for dinner but they are open all day. We started with a lemonade with lovage. It was a little weird at first but started to grow on me, very refreshing. Appetizer was chicken liver toast - this was insanely good. Soft toast with crispy edges, served with a thick layer of chicken liver topped with grapes and crispy sage. As a main we shared the chicken schnitzel and the roasted beets with Gorgonzola. Schnitzel came out with two large pieces stacked with fresh herbs and pickled peppers on top. The bottom piece was sitting in a hot pepper sauce. It was interesting as both pieces made for a different eating experience Beets with Gorgonzola served with beet stems, which ended up tasting like an olive tapenade. Nice side with a completely different flavor profile We decided we had room for desert and ordered the palacsinta (Hungarian crepes) they can in a bowl with brown sugar, butter and figs. This was large and filled us up for sure but was decadent and delicious. 10/10 will be back
Absolutely delicious lunch here. This was an Ottolenghi recommendation so I knew it would be good and I was not disappointed! Selected it partly as I was dining alone and didn’t feel awkward at all. I had the chicken liver mousse which was light and fluffy yet rich at the same time and the crepes which were divine. I have recommended this place to my New York friends and will certainly return if I’m back in the city.
Run now! Don't walk here. Went for brunch and everything was outstanding. Bacon is as thick as bricks, sunny side up eggs perfectly cooked, their egg biscuit sandwich was definitely my fave. Then, their hot chocolate for dessert, oh so decadent. I know nothing about Hungarian cuisine but if I had a Hungarian grandmother, THIS is how its done. Food, service, atmosphere *big sloppy chef's kiss. Can't wait to try their dinner menu next!
I have been to Agi's counter several times. In fact, my entire family demands we go at least once when they visit. Given this, I've tried my fair share of dishes and have never left disappointed. My typical order is the spankopita babka, carmelized grapefruit, Plascinta sandwhich, and hashbrowns. This is an S-tier order. For a drink, you MUST get the ovaltine iced coffee. It is truly the best coffee I've had in NYC, it's like cozy in a cup. The staff is beyond kind, and the ambience is amazing. I credit Agi's to turning me onto KEAP candles. Made in upstate NY, these candles turn Agi's bathroom into an olfactory experience. You must go, even if you don't have to go. This kind of dedication is what makes Agi's a universal fan favorite. I've never had such a quality experience for this price point, and it keeps me coming back again and again. I've gone on dates here, met up with old friends from high school, had family dinners, and read a book at the bar on a sunday morning. Agi's embodies what a restaurant should be, and I'm incredibly grateful to have it in the neighborhood. 10/10 reccomend.
First time, I fell in love with the most popular item - the Tuna Melt. I’m not huge on any kind of “melts” but this is done the right way! Second time, I tried the schnitzel sandwich, which may be even better than the tuna melt (in my opinion). And dare I mention, The best cheesecake, hands down best I’ve ever had! That touch of olive oil and blueberry compote. In addition, the owner and his staff is so pleasant. 10/10 here. Highly recommend!
It was the BEST brunch experience in Brooklyn!! donut was so fluffy and warm even though no filling or creme inside it was so good bc the donut itself was well-made. Tuna melt w/ house made cabbage slaw was amazing , and the sausage with those baked veggies was perfect for the brunch. The crepe was the best crepe I've ever had!! The server was very kind and nice, and I loved the cozy vibes. Definitely want to visit again🤤😍
There's not a whole lot I wouldn't do for a good tuna melt, actually that's an outrageous overstatement, but I do love them and I'm certainly willing to get on a couple subways for one. This place is tucked into a nice neighborhood, and it's very beautiful inside, velvet curtains around the entrance, nice, soft light, hanging lamps, some fabulous wallpaper choices- the bathroom looks like an architectural digest special I'm ashamed I didn't remember to photograph it. Also idk what candles they've got going on here but it's a nice aromatic atmosphere, anyway. Onto the food. Our waitress was very welcoming and beautiful and helpful in guiding us through the menu of course my mother and I are tuna people so we knew what we were there for, we got those, and the green deviled eggs, and caraway caesar and let me tell you people this meal delivered. They have a very smart menu, its all designed to pair up and compliment and this was an especially holy trinity. Great sandwich, warm buttery bread, nice sharp coleslaw and pickles to balance. The eggs were criminally good, rich but not too rich, great salt and spice levels, elevated tremendously by the addition of sardine. It was so good with the tuna. If you're like me and want to go a little crazy wild you could have some egg IN the sandwich and really tap into another level, I also put some of the caesar on it because that caesar? Smoky, bright, crunchy, perfectly bitter from the lettuce, they cleared the field, knocked it out of the stadium with that one. Sadly they were out of their chocolate chip cookie so we got the cheesecake and their sundae, both great but the sundae was the bell of the ball. Creme fraiche gelato??? PORT STEWED PRUNES??? Creamy, not too sweet, clean, clear flavors, the prunes were genius. Perfect end to any meal. These people built this thing so thoughtfully. They had a crystal clear vision and they have executed it perfectly, it's just wonderful to see. And eat! 10/10, five stars, just go here.
I really enjoyed my experience at Agi’s Counter. The service was friendly and the food was amazing! We started with the chicken liver toast. So delicious, the mousse was so light but flavorful and the toast complimented it so well. Definitely recommend. We had the pressed chicken and schmaltz potatoes for our main. The chicken was insane. They balanced the acidity and sharpness of the vinegar/peppers with their savory chicken. Really delicious. Same with the potatoes. Cooked to perfection and served with a lovely aioli. We ended with the cheesecake which was so delicious. Light and fluffy, but rich with great mouthfeel. Will be back again
This is a lovely Hungarian restaurant with a warm and cozy atmosphere. Although the space is small, the vibe feels intimate and welcoming, and the staff are genuinely friendly and attentive, which makes the whole dining experience very comfortable. The food is well-executed and thoughtfully balanced. The chicken liver appetizer with crispy chips, celery, and pickled cherries was a standout — incredibly smooth and rich, while the cherries added just the right acidity to cut through the heaviness and leave a clean, satisfying finish. The pork chop was also very good. It was slightly on the firmer side, but the peach sauce paired with it beautifully, adding a subtle sweetness that kept the dish from feeling greasy. The fries were crispy and flavorful, though a bit salty — a minor issue that didn’t take away from the overall enjoyment. The biggest surprise was the New York cheesecake. Served with blueberry sauce and fresh blueberries, it wasn’t overly sweet at all. The fruit balanced the richness of the cheesecake perfectly, creating a light and elegant finish to the meal. Overall, this restaurant clearly excels at using fruit to balance rich flavors. A highly recommended spot if you’re looking for a refined and enjoyable Hungarian dining experience.
Wonderful little restaurant with amazing food and friendly staff. The food and drink is amazing. I've never seen Ovaltine on a menu and was very happy with the dirty Ovaltine! The tuna confit sando was super delicious and the bread was so soft. Definitely need to try the hot sauce as well, it's spicy and smoky. The atmosphere is very chill with nice little trinkets on the the walls (but not too much). The staff is super friendly and accommodating. A must try!
The vibe at AGI’S CORNER is so relaxed & the service impeccable. The menu offerings are seasonally “sensitive”, varied and not overwhelming in number or price! The dishes are aesthetically pleasing to the eye, scintillating to the tastebuds, nutritious, not skimpy & respectful of their cultural heritage. Heartbroken beets (homemade chamomile vinegar, mild tasty, smooth blue cheese), chicken liver mousse (homemade crackers off the chart perfect pairing), chicken parikas (grandmother AGI’S recipe we were told), roast hake, Bableves (hearty healthy tasty Hungarian bean soup) w buttered bread AND cheescake with delicate fresh fruit were shared AND all enjoying were amazed at the quality of each dish! It was great to meet team members so welcoming, so engaging. Mack & team members we met (Amanda, Sara, Nico, David, Mason, Lewis) were professional, friendly, seemed to be genuinely engaged and each contributed to our very memorable, positive experience. I am sending gift certificates to my children so they can experience AGI’S CORNER and if as pleased as their mother, I hope they will share the love and introduce others to this hidden gem!
I can't remember the last time I enjoyed a meal as much as I did this one. First of all, the heartbroken beets, could have eaten only that all night! The Chicken Paprikas was delicious! And that cheesecake! Oh, goodness! Also, our server, Amanda was a sweetheart and was very good at helping us decide which meal by explaining the ingredients and flavors. (Who knew blue cheese and beets might work!) Also very pleasant Nico, Devon, and Sarah! We sat at the bar so had a chance to say hi to the Chefs, Mason, Louis, and David, and Our Sous Chef , "Mac" (who also explained some about the dishes!) was marvelous! The room was warm and friendly, great experience! I'll be back to NYC for this culinary experience as soon as I can! Yes, Chef!
Had a delicious brunch here! We got the tuna melt (obviously), deviled eggs, pumpkin soup, spanakopita babka, and the caraway Caesar. All dishes were phenomenal and delicious. Staff was very friendly and Jordan the owner is lovely. The caraway chocolate chip cookie is also 10/10. Can’t wait to come back here!
A great neighborhood spot. Service was LOVELY!! Interior was comfy and homey. I came because I heard there was a good tuna melt here. And while I would not call myself a tuna melt expert, I do love a tuna melt. I am not joking when I say this was the best tuna melt I've ever had. The tuna - excellent; the mustard, pickles, slaw and peppers on the side added the perfect bute and acid; and that bread...it made the sandwich. Really so delicious. It was a cold day so I also had the nokedli soup. Filled with little dumplings and loads of chicken (and a little more celery that I like, but...), it was hearty and delicious. The obscene amount of dill tipped it from being good to being a memorably drlicious bowl. I will be back often for that tuna melt or the soup. Maybe both at the same time.
This place was friendly, warm, and just plain fun. My girlfriend and I came here for our 2 year anniversary brunch/lunch and left giddy. Every dish or snack was delicious and vibrant. This place has the best tuna melt I’ve ever had by orders of magnitude. The country club plate was a personal favorite because I love to nosh. The general profiles of most things were similar across the board (funky, salty, sour, fishy) but everything had its own distinct flavor and never got boring. The service was attentive and friendly but not overbearing, and everything came out incredibly fast.
Excellent Hungarian food! House smoked salmon was heavenly. Caraway Cesar is something else - tart and creamy radicchio. Sandwich of the day was pastrami and beef tongue… Tuna melt was fine. Caraway chocolate cookie is something you’ve never tasted or imagined before - we loved it. And a beet Bloody Mary - mama!!! Will be back.
Always a beautiful, satisfying meal! Caraway Caesar is one of the best Caesar salads I’ve had and I always go back for it. They’re very accommodating for my dietary restrictions, staff is so lovely, welcoming, and friendly. And of course the interior is absolutely stunning!Truly one of NYC’s gems. 💎
Lovely place in Brooklyn. Dining with on Hungarian, one Irish and two kiwis. Staff are awesome. Menu is small but accommodates all tastes and preferences. Granola is superb for breakfast/brunch. Has the Bologna sandwich with Brooklyn Lager, sensational. Staff were so good, attentive and not overbearing. Excellent menu knowledge and helpful. So glad we stopped by.
Such a great place! A creative take on traditional recipes, good value for money, professional and friendly team and owners! A must-visit place if you're going to the botanic garden or just happen to be around. Booking recommended, otherwise you might need to wait for a table. PS check the owner's cookbook - you might need to try repeating this at home.
Cottage core in restaurant form - this place feels homey, warm and farm to table. The service is so lovely here, our server was personable and brought even more warmth to our experience. We came for dinner and ordered a variety of things including the crudités special, dip and chips, and chicken, all of which were good but not mind blowing to me (dips were all fine, chicken was small, salty and a bit dry). But then we had the cheesecake and I will never stop thinking about it for the rest of my life. The generous pour of olive oil paired with fresh and cooked blueberries and creamy dreamy cheesecake… do not not order this. I will absolutely be back just for this cheesecake (and the vibes)!
Got the devilled eggs and the tuna melt. Both were amazing but the devilled eggs were the standout. Fantastic food and service in a lovely part of town and for New York pretty reasonable prices for lunch.
Very cute space with all the dried flowers and decor inside. We booked reservations about a month in advance, but if you’re just stopping to grab a baked good and coffee to go, there’s no need. We were seated at the counter, which was nice. The food unfortunately didn’t live up to my expectations. The Hungarian pancakes were delicious, and deliciously sweet and buttery. The country club plate was tasty and a great option to sample a few things (the menu said whipped feta, but it was just a chunk of feta). The pork sausage was tasty, but the fried egg that came with it was too salty to eat and the salt expanded onto some of the green onions. The hashbrowns were fried to a crisp so much so that you’d want to crumble them like croutons… they lost any sense of being a potato. The horseradish crema underneath was good though.
Okay so I’m conflicted because this is such a weird addition to a neighborhood in Brooklyn I’m very familiar with so it’s weird to see how it’s changed with places like this but I also really liked this. Top brunch experience honestly. My bf really does not like standard brunch fare and he says it’s just an excuse to drink while the food is meh but this was so very good. The hash brown, bacon, crepes, tuna melt, agi o’s all really good. Cheesecake was also so so good. I will say ask to get the agi o and cheesecake without the olive oil because I personally find olive oil too overpowering and I don’t enjoy it in my sweets/desserts. Everything was so good and I enjoyed that nothing was too sweet. Food was a bit slow and the chairs were so uncomfortable but worth the wait. Please try to make it brunch it is worth it. Instant favorite. The 5% kitchen fee is weird but I just adjusted my tip accordingly. It’s a wee bit pricy but the food was worth it in my opinion and still cheaper than going out for dinner. I will be back soon.
I discovered Agi’s Counter after an influencer mentioned the business was struggling financially and encouraged people to support. Third time’s the charm- I tried to go twice before but arrived during their break (they’re closed from 3 to 5:30 PM), so definitely check the hours before heading over. I finally made it in on a Sunday when I was craving a tuna melt. I called ahead hoping to place a to-go order but they told me to just order it when I got there since it would be ready quickly. I ended up waiting at least 15 minutes, which I wouldn’t consider fast, but the tuna melt was absolutely delicious and I’d 100% order it again. I noticed the sides were slightly different from what I see in other photos, mine came with a full small pickle and a few peppers, while others seem to get coleslaw. Not a big deal, just a small inconsistency to note. From what I could see, business seemed to be doing well, which is great to see. I’m glad I finally got to try it and would come back just maybe not when I’m in a rush.
You probably weren’t thinking of getting the Celery Root Schnitzel, but I’m vegetarian so that’s what I got. It’s pretty good, a panko fried veg with sauce on top. Kudos for thinking outside of the box
Had a great lunch at Agis, the highlight was definitely the tuna sandwich which was spot on, with fresh tasting tuna and perfectly toasted bread. We also had the chicken sandwich which in my opinion was a miss, unwieldy and out of place on the menu. The reviews about the bathroom smell were not wrong, I took a photo of the candle because it smelled so good. Lastly the cheesecake was pretty solid, did not regret getting it. Would definitely come back for a quick lunch or brunch.
Visited on a Wed for late lunch. Menu is limited but what we ordered was excellent! Had the schnitzel chicken and tuna melt sandwiches. Coffee served was cold but I asked them to warm it up and they gave me a new hot cup of coffee! The cheese cake is a must have!! It’s one of the best I have ever had. Definitely worth a visit
Came here for Sunday brunch and loved it. Sunday hours run 10am–3pm, and it's been on my list forever because of the Michelin guide recommendation and so many awards that this restaurants has gotten. I came as a walk-in and waited about an hour. Reservations are definitely recommended on weekends, but the wait wasn’t too bad — I took a quick trip to the Brooklyn Botanic Garden right next door, which worked out perfectly. Their reservation system texts you when your table is ready What I ordered: • Fánk (Hungarian donut) — Sunday-only and goes fast. Light, soft, slightly sweet, and seasonal. Kind of reminds me of a challah texture • Sandwich special — mine was a pastrami beef tongue reuben; big flavor, generous portion. I love the mustard it came with • Tuna melt — griddled pullman bread, melty alpine cheddar, plus slaw and mustard. Super comforting. This is their signature, I liked it but I loved the pastrami more • Nokedli soup — tear-dropped dumplings in chicken broth; this was a bit oily so not sure I'd get this one again. Charming space, friendly team, and well-made comfort food. but Wait can be long but great spot for a relaxing Sunday brunch. For more NYC food recs, I’m on IG: @alice.likes.food
Small local eatery in Brooklyn. Intimate atmosphere with the dim lighting and limited seating. Recommend that you make a reservation. Really friendly staff that is knowledgeable about the menu. Food and wine were both delicious. I ordered the dinner special, the wild boar with berry reduction sauce. The wassermann franc red wine paired well with the main. To share, we had the summer squash. And my friend ordered the confit tuna melt. Very delicious and nicely toasted on the bread. A bit pricey of a dinner for two, but definitely a worthwhile experience.
Eastern European dinner at a Brooklyn restaurant that is recognized as a @michelinguide Bib Gourmand. Everything was yummy but heavier with the seasoning like I expected for this cuisine. It was definitely pricey and there was a non-discretionary 5% “kitchen living wage” that I’d really rather to be just added to the listed prices on the menu 🤔 Might try out their brunch next time as that seem to be more popular!
good food and better presentation. overall on the pricey end of brunch (compared to Manhattan). bad service - the host didn’t think to tell us that outdoor sitting is available the whole time after put us on the long waitlist and told us not to move the table to one area while next second someone else did it without any problem. the message feels inconsistent. might not come back again.
Caveat: I still want to go back someday during brunch, hoping this will be a better experience. I went for dinner at Agi’s, expecting them to be serving their full menu of sandwiches also during dinner (on their website it says Weekday menu, which means all days of the week, and not week days [as in lunch time]). Miss number 1. When we arrived we had to wait 25 minutes for our table, and we had a reservation. Miss number 2. After sitting down, I asked our very friendly server what was the dish the table next to us was eating. It was a very big fish dish. He said what it was and I said “OK, let’s do this”. When the dish came, it was a different, appetizer size, dish. It was good, if too acidic, but not what I wanted. Miss number 3. If you go to their website, the first picture is of a delightful cheesecake. We were excited to see on the board that the special that day was… cheesecake! When we got to the ordering dessert part… there was no cheesecake. Instead we ordered a very average cookie with jam, which seemed to be leftover dough from the cheesecake. Miss number 4. I wanted to like Agi’s counter so much, as the atmosphere is great, the people working there were vibing and the music was awesome. I was not very impressed with the dinner food at all, though.
The portion sizes are quite small. Although it's brunch, it still seems a bit insufficient for one person. The food is not exceptionally good—some dishes are very salty—but overall, it's average. Additionally, there's a 5% service charge for the kitchen staff at Living Wage, which I find a bit puzzling. If the kitchen staff's wages are low, it should be the owner's responsibility to cover that, not the consumers.
I would also like to share my disappointing experience with the New Years Brunch. When we sat down the server did not explain how the brunch worked and the menu is confusing, why are prices listed when it’s supposedly a preset brunch. The complimentary drink we could not choose and was a 1/4 of a glass of wine, which was not listed when we booked the reservation. I’m also not sure why there were two tiers of crepes and we could not just pay the difference to get the 2nd tier crepes. Seemed to me like they were just trying to squeeze as much money as they can from people. The food was decently tasty, but was not worth it based on the price and confusing experience.
Agi’s Counter suffers from Excess with a capital E. I feel unwell, a mild nausea, after having a meal with excessive fat and/or sugar. This was the case. It’s not an exaggeration to say that the pancake was swimming—nay, drowning—in syrup. If you like your butter and syrup by the spoonful, you’ve found the right place. Personally, I could’ve done with a second pancake (one crepe does not make a meal) and half the syrup. Likewise, the hash brown looks much better than it tastes. Rather than having a soft fluffy center, it was more like a giant puck of potato chips. And because of its thickness, the oil can’t be drained effectively. The sour cream underneath it added to the grease. I can understand why this place is so highly rated. Americans love Excess. But if your tastes are like mine, just know what you’re walking into.
I’m extremely picky when it comes to food and hospitality service. As soon as I came in, I was not approached with enthusiasm and no formal introduction or questioning if this was my first time. It took approximately 5 minutes to be seated. It appeared that the staff were exhausted. I initially came because of the famous tuna melt, and they ran out of it. Coming from Manhattan to Brooklyn is quite a commute. I ordered the Rainbow Trout, and the taste was awful and soggy. I was not advised ahead of time that it might have scales. I also ordered the Chicken Schnitzel, which was not good. My rating is 6 out of 10. I guess the vibe was not as good as it seemed on TikTok.
I came back to agis for brunch after scoring a reservation a month in advance and sadly had a lackluster experience.I hadn't been in over a year and wanted to support them. I'm sorry to say that it will be my last time. The menu and service had changed significantly. There's are a lot more sandwiches on the menu, no egg dishes and they got rid of the coveted devil eggs. The highlights of the meal were the small hash brown plate over sour cream, similar to a deconstructed latke and the candied grapefruit. The sandwich de jour was roast beef which was soaked in a plate of oil, one small slice of roast beef and many other flavorless textured veggies of sorts. I didn't taste any horseradish and for $20, I'd expect more meat. Probably should went with the tuna melt. The devil eggs are now called "jammy eggs" which was one soft boiled egg cut in half face down in a sea of mayo and green oil. We added chicken skin, thinking to add a salty bite, but it was more like a long, hard piece of bark. I used to LOVE the deviled eggs with anchovies, this was cold and not appetizing. I wish they'd bring back the old simplified menu, it was fantastic, and the warm hospitality. Overall we left disappointed, hungry and bummed by the outcome.
I don’t usually go out of my way to leave less than stellar reviews, but I’m genuinely really upset by how much I paid for the Palacsinta brunch. Egregiously expensive given the portions. Their brunch special (pictured) was $45, which included my main dish the size of a piece of cake, a shared (!!!!) app for the table, and a "splash" of juice or wine. Not even bottomless coffee. A la carte $25. When I tried double confirming the cost with the server (before ordering anything I should mention) she deadpanned "you can leave if you want." I thought the food would be worth it. Needless to say, I had to order a slice of babka because I was still hungry afterward. Partly annoyed by myself, partly this place is not worth it
Food and coffee are just fine. Overhyped. Honestly this place sucks. Same gentrifier atmosphere and attitude. Front of house staff… *shrugs shoulders.* Skip the hype of this spot and find other neighborhood gems.
just like not good - flavorless salty and oily; not a generous portion of tuna with the tuna melt could barely taste it. and very expensive as well? i don’t know, really disappointed with the food and the service is not great either. the space is cute and the andes chocolates are nice.
