My husband and I have come numerous time and never been disappointed with the service or food. Great place to have dinner.
Amazing polish food. You could hear them pounding the cutlets after your order. Pierogis were delicious as advertised. Potato pancakes with the mushroom sauce were crispy and creamy - I knew they were going to be good - I wasn’t prepared for them to be that good. Fast, friendly service.
This place is simply fantastic- a real hidden gem. This spot has excellent homemade Polish dishes- including the best borscht I’ve had in the city. It’s also got a quaint atmosphere and relaxed vibe that really suit the experience. Definitely a must-visit if you come out this way!
The food comes out right every single time. Their approach to customers is completely adequate. Their dedication to freshness is remarkable. Just settled in the area and this restaurant already feels like home. Coming back here is in my plans.
The food here is fantastic and this is only my first time trying it. Each plate had fresh components, good seasoning, and proper cooking. I appreciate the atmosphere of this place. Her cheerful demeanor genuinely made my evening special. The restaurant provides both friendship space and good eating.
I was surprised to come into the restaurant on a Friday night and see it empty! I am glad I came here because the food is absolutely delicious. I will definitely be coming again and will tell my friends to try! We got the potato pancakes, polish combination (kielbasa, pierogies, stuffed cabbage), and meat pierogies for apps. Entrees included pork and chicken cutlets and cutlet de volly. For dessert we had the chefs blintzes with cheese - one with blueberry and one with strawberry. Highly recommend everything!
Two vegetarians ate really well here!!! I always have to search hard in Bay Ridge to find nice food without meat. I found it here. Huge portions and very delicious. Great service. Nice back area to sit. Just the chairs were a little bit small and hard. That was it. Loved it will go back!
I think this is the best restaurant in Bay Ridge. Granted I have a Polish family so I grew up on this style of food but it’s simply outstanding. Light dumplings, delicious and perfectly done meat dishes and the soups are fantastic. Everything tastes home made and it even holds up to delivery. Can’t recommend this place enough!
Never did like perogies, that is until I had them here. Went to college in the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton area of Northeastern PA. Large Polish population there and it seemed everything had something pierogi, even milkshakes (just kidding as that would be a horrible combo). Just never developed a taste for them. One day after passing by this place a million times my wife suggested we stop in and check it out. Should have stopped in much sooner. Great place. We go there regularly now. Neither the food nor service has ever disappointed us. Nice and cozy inside and it's not loud. Common theme in my reviews...hate loud. On our last go round there my son and grandson (they both love eating here) accompanied us. Of course we ordered perogies (cheese and potato) and gobbled these tasty fellows in a heartbeat. We usually get the fried ones, but the boiled ones are just as good. A must have appetizer. Surowka, which is the house salad, is especially good and is provided with most entrees. It consists of petit servings of red cabbage, sauerkraut, cole slaw, beets and shredded carrots. Was a surprise the first time we ate there as we didn't know it was included with our entrée. Looked at each other and said "what's this?". Now we look forward to it. So many different flavors. So tasty and a perfect accompaniment to your meal. Had another favorite that we've ordered quite a few times...Hungarian pancakes. Indescribably delicious. A must have. Portion size is such that you could easily share it. The Kotlet Szefowski, Chef's Pork Chop, is another must have. Melts in your mouth...so tender. It is topped with mushrooms and mozzarella that adds a bang to the tender and delicious pork chop residing underneath. The menu description notes "it will melt in your mouth" and they are not kidding. Could go on and on about the various dishes we've had here, but I don't want this to be the longest review ever. So definitely try their Stuffed Kielbasa, Stuffed Chicken breast, Beef Goulash and even their decidedly not Polish Fish and Chips (a safe bet for a friend or child who is not adventurous or doesn't like authentic ethnic food). Every one a solid choice that are10 stars out of ten. BTW...Don't forget to order a Blintz for dessert. They are amazing. My son is a beer aficionado and usually has a Tyskie beer to go with his meal. A nice smooth beer.
I had a very enjoyable lunch here. I got the sampler to go with boiled perogies and kielbasa. The Kielbasa was very flavorful, the stuffed cabbage was loaded with meat, and the perogies were so moist. The sides all had distinctly different tasts. Tart saurkraut, sweet carrots, earthy sweet beets, light cole slaw, and strong purple cabbage. Can't wait to get a perogie sampler and some borscht next time.
This was magical gem in Bay Ridge for polish food. We ordered the fruit compote drink, cucumber soup, pierogi, and nalesniki (rolled crepe) and it was delicious! The cucumber soup should be renamed Sour Delightful Soup because it was absolutely to-die for. It has sliced pickles, celery, carrots and potatoes. It was incredibly rich and creamy and wonderfully sour. A must have for fans of sour foods.
If you’ve yet to try Polonica you’re missing out! The food here is absolutely incredible. It’s truly the best Polish food I’ve had in Brooklyn! They make a delicious Beef goulash that includes all the fixings at a price that’s hard to beat considering the great quality. The staff is always so warm and welcoming. Delivery is quick and the food travels well. Not much more you could ask for.
First time trying Polish food. Found this restaurant while on vacation in Brooklyn. It was near our hotel and decided to give it a try. There was no wait for a table seeing it was early evening. Service was great and personal. Suggestions on what beer to try and also the main course by the owner. The food was exceptional and well presented. The dessert was also good.
My friend and I went to Polonica around 2pm on a Saturday. I was getting my nails done across the street, and the restaurant had decent reviews, so we decided to check it out. We were the only people in the restaurant the entire time, though there were a few delivery orders. The restaurant has a homey interior, with callouts to their historic presence in Bay Ridge. We ordered the chicken klopsiki ($15.65) and the Hungarian pancakes ($20). Each dish comes with a house salad, which consists of red cabbage, sauerkraut, cole slaw, beets, shredded carrots, and lettuce. The salad had nice flavors and tasted fresh! I really enjoyed the chicken klopsiki, which is a chicken meatball. The meatball was moist, and the sauce had a nice flavor, like chicken soup. The only downside was that the mashed potatoes had no flavor and tasted like powdered mashed potatoes. I liked the flavor of the Hungarian pancakes, but the ratio of pancake to filling was heavily skewed toward the pancake, which was just fried potato with minimal flavor. Therefore, I would pass on the pancakes and just get the goulash if I decided to return. Service was okay. When I asked the server for recommendations, she wasn't enthusiastic, but I was asking generally, and I could have been more specific. She left during our meal, and we had to call someone to give us the check. So after giving us the food, service was nonexistent. Overall, I liked some parts of the dishes, but nothing was so amazing that I would be itching to return again!
Never Again – Disappointing Experience All Around I’ve eaten at Polonica before and wasn’t impressed, but decided to give it another try with a takeout order. I honestly don’t know why I went back — this was the final straw. The service is terrible. The owner sits in the back, more interested in watching soccer and scrolling on his phone than acknowledging customers. He didn’t greet me, didn’t thank me, and showed zero interest in anyone walking through the door. Customers have to bring him the bill themselves because he can’t be bothered to get up. As for the food — just okay at best. The stuffed cabbage tasted like meatloaf wrapped in cabbage, lacking any real flavor. The pierogies were grainy and unappealing. Worst of all, he packed my stuffed cabbage, tomato sauce, and mashed potatoes into one container, so by the time I got home everything was a mushy mess. It’s clear he doesn’t enjoy running the place, and honestly, it shows. I will not be returning.
