Opiniones de Halsey's Restaurant Geneva
We had the special pizza of the day, it was a mozzarella, chicken, fig reduction with bacon. It was literally the best pizza I've had in my life and the crust was so gentle and soft. We also ordered the pan seared scallops which tasted good but i could tell the oil want very hot which didn't create an outer crust on the scallops and left them greasy. For dessert we order the chocolate chip cookies with ice cream. The ice cream was richly vanilla but we weren't in love with the cookies. Despite these two small dishes we loved the place and would absolutely come back.
We ordered 2 pizza's late night cause we weren't sure if it was going to be good. The boxes were light when we received them but we were more than happy. It was well cooked and really hit the spot. Would return for other food in the future.
My Husband, my 4 month old daughter and I were visiting Geneva for the weekend. We ate at Halsey's every night! The food and service was amazing and they were incredibly kind and accommodating to us considering we had a little baby and it is a nice restaurant. The crab cakes and the meatballs were the best we have ever had! We tried to go to another restaurant in town one of the nights and never got waited on so we went back to Halsey's and had great service! We wish we lived closer so we could eat there more often!
Our 2nd trip to Halsey's...they do a great job serving gluten free foods. Staff is knowledgeable in the importance of allergies to gluten. Ambience is lovely, restaurant had a lively buzz of conversation. Our family group of 7 enjoyed several menu choices. We've agreed to make Halsey's a great place to meet up.
Halsey's is a great place to dine before shows at the Smith. Reservations are recommended. Salads are great. The pizza selection is wide and we enjoyed the two pizzas we had at our table tonight.
Subs are bigger than expected, great quality! I will be back!
Super cozy atmosphere, fantastic service, and great wood fired pizza. Super fancy pants toppings, but great menu options for everyone. Awesome wine selection with a large number of local wines. Full bar.
Halseys was like an upscale pub. Food was extraordinary and unique! I had the brick oven baked lasagne(posted). The sauce was delicious and it was topped with a wonderful balsamic glaze. My family had the brick oven pizza, each one was about 12" in diameter so we came home with leftovers. I would highly recommend!
I would highly recommend Halseys. We had a fabulous waiter named Noah that provided wonderful service. We ordered wine, appetizers and entrees, everything was delicious. I will definitely stop back in.
We arrived early to avoid a wait for a seat. Promptly seated. Great service. Opted for the wood-fired pizza. Did not disappoint. Looking for to a return visit next time we're in Geneva.
Great Restaurant! Spotless atmosphere, attentive service, Dylan makes an incredible wood fires pizza! Took my wife and her sister out for dinner for their birthdays, and this place exceeded our expectations. Kudos to our sweet waitress who took pics of us together and treated us very well! We will be back...Food is stellar and fresh! Thank you
Was busy, and we didn't have a reservation so we sat at the bar. I got a dozen oysters, braised pork shank and a whiskey flight. My wife got a pizza (don't remember which) and the meatballs. Everything was amazing! Probably top 5 meatballs I have ever had.
Great experience last night. Delicious wines and the salmon entree was great. They took care of my vegan daughter by substituting vegan cheese on the pizza. Will definitely return.
Got into Geneva on a dark February night and we were so lucky to stumble on to Halsey’s! My wife and i sat at the cozy bar and had a great bottle of wine and some delicious small plates. Bartender/server/manager was friendly, professional and knowledgeable about local wines. Highly recommend.
The food is always on point and the atmosphere is very comfortable. There menu changes with the season pleasantly; including their specialty drinks. A great place for special occasions, dates, or just a reason to dress up a little. If your a fan of wood fired cooked foods you have to try the meatballs!
Nice spot in Geneva for dinner. The smashburger was delicious! My husband also really enjoyed the clams over linguini, but stated there were only a few clams. We were with a large party and the servers were able to keep up with our orders, though it did take a little while for the last couple of meals to come out. Overall we were very pleased.
We had been to Halsey's only once before but fell in love with the food and atmosphere. We had our wedding in Geneva and decided Halsey's would be great for a rehearsal dinner. We had some trouble finalizing some things and communication, but once we got there the food and service was amazing! Everyone loved their food and the service was pretty quick! The upstairs section was able to accommodate our large and boisterous party with ease! Thanks, Halsey's!
Had a wonderful meal for my daughter’s 16th birthday. The vegetarian lasagna is her favorite! We had a party of 6 and everyone enjoyed the appetizers and meals. Great cocktails as well. Love the fig fashion and the mojito was refreshing and went great with the tuna.
Group of 4 on a Wednesday night and no wait. Had the fried green beans and cheese board - delicious! The meatball & vegetable pizzas were delicious, as well. Great service! Great atmosphere! Just a short walk from the Ramada.
Halsey's was great. Jen, a regular long-term waitress, is a superb hostess. I have nothing but great things to say about Halsey's! Their Sicilian Calamari appetizer is calamari done right, with plenty of superb spicy tomato sauces and peppers. It's phenomenal. I get it every time, and their other appetizers are no slouches either. I've never had a bad experience with any of the entrees. If you're picky, I'd suggest one of the brick-fired pizzas. Other than that, pretty much everything is great. Halsey's has a LOT of daily specials, perhaps an annoyingly large amount - it takes a really long time for them to get through the entire list. They should write their specials down so that customers can keep track. Regardless, I won't penalize them for giving the customer too many options. So, a phenomenal restaurant - definitely the best in the Geneva area, with the possible exception of Port's.
We enjoyed our dinner at Halsey's. Great gluten free options! We enjoyed the house specialty wood fired pizza with GF crust, Creole shrimp, and chocolate decadence for dessert. Very tasty! Nina, our waitress, was very attentive and friendly. Great night out :)
Unfortunate that I didn't get our server's name, but she was fantastic! Actually having someone make good suggestions and be knowledgeable of the food their restaurant serves seems hard to find these days. This was not the case. Our server gave us great suggestions and even told us what she was going to have for dinner on the menu. The Woodfire Pizza was one of the best I've ever had.
One of the best upscale dining experiences in the Geneva area. The filet mignon and a wedge salad are my go-to order, but there are always a delicious array of options from the land and the sea. Meals can be casual too, ordering pizzas from the wood-fired oven. It's a great restaurant and I highly recommend it. UPDATE: I order the pan seared, peppercorn dusted tuna and it was AMAZING! Served with stir fry vegetables and ancient grains, it was a wonderful compliment of flavors. I may have a new go-to order. They've also down-sized the wedge salad since the last time I was there. It was probably an economic decision, but the original size was too much for a first course. I like this change.
Our party of 6 had a reservation on new year's eve. We arrived on time and were greeted and seated immediately at a table tucked under the stairs. It was set with sparkling glasses and silverware. Our server was attentive, helpful and cheerful. He made suggestions, happily honored one person's gluten free needs, and knew the menu thoroughly. Bread, soup, and salad were all at the right temperature and tasted delicious. Main courses were all served at the same time. We all enjoy the presentation and flavors. The gf dish was great, too. It was an all-around excellent dining experience and we look forward to visiting again soon. We were too full for desserts. Maybe next time we will eat less bread. Haha.
Could cut the steak with a butter knife. Au grautin potatoes were excellent. Delicious roasted cauliflower (which I normally don't like)....and the salmon 😋 Drinks super reasonable. Prompt friendly service... it was crowded but the wait staff never missed a beat.
My wife and I had an amazing dinner. The service is top notch, everyone is welcoming and friendly. The food is excellent. Our server was outstanding ( thank you Nina) and very helpful. We can't wait to return!
Our first visit to Halsey's and it was a very enjoyable experience. The food was good, wine selection more than adequate and we found a very good bottle. The staff was helpful, knowledgeable and made us feel welcome. Will likely put this one on the list to return to next time in the area.
Fantastic food, atmosphere and even better service! Bravo! The cantina fries are fantastic!
Amazing, huge, HUGE sandwiches. Great beers, tv’s and setup. The food was fantastic.
We went to halseys for my birthday dinner, and we had a fantastic experience! The food was great, and the service was exceptional. Wyatt was our waiter, and he was very attentive and personable! As someone who works in the service industry, little things go a long way. He made sure we knew food and drinks were coming and checked in multiple times. We saw other tables giving him a hard time, but everyone has to learn the job! Thank you Wyatt for a great experience!
We are obsessed wish everything so far. Went here multiple time and everything is great!
I originally thought this was going to be a deli since I knew the menu was very sandwich forward. So I was a little surprised at first to see a more traditional sports bar / bistro type establishment. No matter however! Just an initial surprise. Ordered to go - Godfather and Chopped Cheese. First I balked at the price tag $19 per sandwich approx. Holy cow because you get your money’s worth! Huge sandwiches with loads of filling and flavor. Definitely worth the splurge with plenty of leftovers. The Chopped Cheese had fresh beef taste with onions, relish type burger sauce, and plenty of cheese. Just being nitpicky, I’d want more of a blanket of cheese versus incorporated. But it was creamy, sour, savory, everything. All at once. The roll was too soft, but again being nitpicky. Still five stars. Highly recommend.
Not a Deli, but a Sandwich Bar/Restaurant. A unique idea and delicious food. The sandwiches are huge, the small size is plenty for most people.
Upstate NYers know and need a good sandwich and this has become our favorite spot for guaranteed perfection. The variety of options for not only sandwiches but loaded fries and tots with a few other options (tom/cuc salad was super yum), the quality of the ingredients and how everything is crafted, the staff is skilled and extremely accommodating - it’s all just honestly unbeatable. The price point is honestly so impressive for the amount of food you get. We go out of our way to make this stop because there’s nothing we want more than to see this establishment succeed for a very long time!
Checking out a new place to eat in Geneva! So many hot and cold specialty subs and sandwiches! and lots of Fries options and salads too! Beer and Soda options, and the Beer loads through the bottom of the glass! So cool! Leaving you with a full belly and a cool magnet sealing the glass bottom that you can keep to put on your fridge at home! ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ Would highly recommend to check them out! We had 2 full hot subs along with the Mac n' Tots that comes with a vodka sauce shooter to dress up your tots with a little more yum!! 😛
We went the CJ’s on Monday, for the first time, with 2 friends. The bartender/server went out of his way to spend time explaining things, beer service & food. He was friendly & gave us a fun experience!
Lisa was our server, she said she was on her last day training but she was a pro! So helpful with questions and made us feel right at home ! We will return and help spread the word about the amazing food and staff you have . Lisa provided the best service we have had in a long time and are excited visit again !
Great food large portions spot on italian nyc style subs with some local influence. It was definitely alot of food. We will be back again for sure
Awesome food! Excellent service! Small size is not small. Will go there again!! Bucky beef was a winner!
Wow, go CJ's! My friends and I met at CJs for the Buffalo Bills game and we had an awesome time. Although the Bills (barely) lost we felt like we won. The food was top-notch! Everyone at the table raved about their sandwiches. Our server , Suhaily was friendly, fast and fabulous. Even with a big crowd she made sure everyone had great service. The restaurant was clean and seating was comfortable. We'll be back, thanks Suhaily Ps sorry no pic, I was having too much fun
I planned a bachelorette dinner here for a group of 11 and I couldn't be happier about the decision. It was the perfect evening to get dressed up and celebrate our bride. The service, to the food, to the cocktails, to the ambiance of the restaurant were wonderful. 5 star experience. It was easy to make a reservation, and we booked many months in advance via email online. All of the food was delicious and well worth the price (I got the lobster ravioli)! Would absolutely be back in the future and recommend to anyone looking for an affordable, yet high-class dining experience.
We had a group of 8 and they accommodated us. They food was amazing. Giant meatballs were in fact giant and delicious. Also had melon salad, turkey burnt ends, pizza. Everything was great! Highly recommended!
A great date night restaurant. A little on the pricier side, but usually the food is worth it. I recently had the crab cake appetizer and was not a fan- they were a little dry and not very flavorful, but that is the first meal I've had there that wasn't great. Their pastas are amazing, pizza is incredible, and desserts are to die for.
Had a great dinner @ Halsey's last week with a big group. Appetizers (especially the Hot Honey Cheese Crisps/croquettes) were spectacular & my meal was great. My friend & I went half & half with the Scallops & the Lamb Chops. I don't typically get seafood away from the source but I was glad I got it here - amazing! Would love to come back next time I'm in the area.
A wonderful gem of a restaurant. They do Italian and wood fried cuisine very well. Not only do they have pizza from a wood fried oven , they also create other amazing dishes to use the oven with as well. Servers are very knowledgeable and make very good recommendations. The wine list is extensive, moderately priced. Overall atmosphere was wonderful and inviting. Not overly decorated or too lavish. I want to come back and try.more of the menu and experience that is Halsey's
Halsey’s was truly a great experience. It had great food, a great atmosphere and great service. We got a pizza, the lobster bisque and a salad. The soup was huge and I’d definitely recommend sharing it since it’s so rich, as is characteristic of lobster bisque. It has great flavor, although if you’re expecting a lobster bisque with lobster chunks this won’t have that. The bread and dipping oil was delicious and the oil has several little sections of things: crushed red pepper, garlic and Parmesan. Both of our salads (the Caesar and the Halsey’s salad) were amazing. The Halsey’s was so flavorful with the feta, mandarin oranges and dressing adding a great combo of flavors. The pizza was very good out of their wood fire grill. We also had their Margarita, which was absolutely delicious with all fresh flavors and none of that “mix” taste. If you’re in the area I’d definitely recommend making a stop here. They have a good selection of food for an array of budgets: from pizzas and salads to full dinner entrees (that also looked phenomenal even though we got the lighter meals).
On a Sunday night we arrived and got a window seat without a reservation. There were quite a few guests inside. We were able to walk here from the Ramada in Geneva but parking would have been no trouble as parking is free for 2 hours in the street. In the summer time I could see that parking may become sparse. I ordered the grilled vegetable lasagna and I highly recommend it. My friend was jealous and wished she got it over the salmon - she did enjoy her salmon though. The bread was a little cold but the olive oil with garlic, red pepper, balsamic, and Parmesan were an incredible combination! For wine they had a lovely Malbec on the menu from Chile by the glass and dessert was a special of lemon rolled cake with raspberry whipped filling. It was phenomenal! Highly recommend this place if you’re visiting the finger lakes / Geneva.
Halsey's has an excellent menu. The kitchen is well qualified and puts out some great dishes. I often go here for cocktails and share appetizers as a meal because I love the apps menu. Every entree I have had here has been amazing as well. The crowd is quiet and cool. This restaurant is always busy so call ahead or just come in and have a well made drink while you wait. The martini menu is delicious. Halsey's is great for a romantic dinner, a family event or even just for drinks and apps.
Nice restaurant. Menu had alot of options. Recommended the Brussel sprouts and vegetable lasagna. My only reservation for 5 stars, is that our waitress kept forgetting our drinks and she made multiple trips to deliver our order. I hear, as of late, that the service is hit or miss.
The service here was excellent. I had the pizza of the day; it was good, but not the greatest pizza ever. My wife had some type of crab meat pasta. Again, good, but not the greatest ever. All in all though, we had a good experience and the prices weren't outrageous.
Lovely atmosphere. Our server Noah was delightful and very attentive. Cocktails were spot on and generous. Apps and entrees were all delicious. Ceasars salad was a bit dry.
Staff was exceptionally 👍 great. Food was great, wine was good. Atmosphere abit hoity toity( I felt under dressed even though I had on a dress) Very pricey though. Make sure you take extra loot with you. Other than that, very nice place to eat and enjoy your dinner.
Very good food and setting. We had calamari and Caesar salad to start. Salad was good and met expectations. Calamari was great. Main course was filet and ribeye. Both were good cuts and cooked perfectly. Desert was chocolate chip cookies and brownie al a mode. Cookies were smaller than expected but fantastic. Brownie was ok. Our waitress was good and friendly but could have been a bit more attentive. I feel the restaurant was a bit understaffed and why I rated 4 stars instead of 5. Ambience and decor we're spot on and found the place very enjoyable. Our only complaint was there were a couple very sketchy characters milling about for 20 minutes while we waited for and ate our appetizers. Hard to hold clientelle against an establishment but at this price point it's something you really don't want to encounter. Overall a very good experience and we will be back.
Nice location, attentive friendly staff but the food i had, duck with veggies did not make the cut, so only 4 stars. Food is rather a 3, but who pairs a perfect seared duck, spinach and squash with a super spicy sriracha sauce. No taste other than burning spice, no fun
The food was good, but the service was even better. Janette was our server and she made us forgive the fact that certain dishes we wanted weren't available. She was absolutely fantastic in many ways. Thank you so very much for making the evening fun. Oh, then the food....The Kung Pao Cauliflower, Cheese Board, Truffle Tater Tots, Pizzas, and Salads were all very good. I would recommend you check this place out should you be in the area.
The food was way too salty, specifically the miso salmon and the scallops. The burger was decent. The pretzel cheese appetizers were really good though. A little spicy, which I like. Our waitress, Brittney, was awesome.
Food was good, cheese burger sub on fuchsia with garlic butter toasted! OMFG!! DELICIOUS. The vodka chicken sub***** 5 star! Great!! Mac salad* 1 star. I was assuming "homemade type taste" nope... tasted like walmart Mac salad. No flavor. Price a little heavy but not to bad.
Very expensive for what you get. The pasta with crab was almost all pasta and almost no crab meet. We sat at the bar because they told us at the other tables were reserved for others coming in at the same time. We left before any of the three tables, that we saw that were open, were filled. The food we had did taste good. The drinks at the bar were less than stellar.
This has always been our favorite restaurant in Geneva until last evening. We were a party of 4 and 1 person was undecided what to choose. I suggested Crab Farfalle, I've had it several times and loved it. Unfortunately, it didn't contain any lumps of crabmeat and very few crab pieces! Huge disappointment. Our server, Zoe, suggested she could bring a little more, but we weren't sure what that would accomplish. The table beside us also had a dish that was sub standard and a different server comped the whole meal! All of our other dishes were very good and we ordered espresso, drinks and dessert. No one caused a scene or raised voices, but there was a definite difference how 2 servers with same situation treated their customers. We will rethink recommendations of Halsey's.
The steak was a bit tough. The clams were good, but they went overboard with the rosemary. Service was also very slow. Overall the food was very expensive for what you get, definitely not worth it.
Service was good, no issues there. Cute little restaurant, has a relaxed atmosphere. Unfortunately, the food missed the mark. Appetizers were great, the pork belly burnt ends were delicious. Entrees were disappointing. I had the pork shank, which was tasteless. Demi glaze was very bitter and the vegetables were old or overcooked, not sure which.
I had the twin torpedoes with greens and mashed potatoes. It was excellent. Out of the 4 of us that had dinner 2 of us really enjoyed the food and 2 were very disappointed. The decor was very pleasing. The service was not good. Half an hour to get drinks. Drinks never checked on or refilled unless we asked.
My date had the seafood risotto, it had almost no seafood in it, 3 tiny shrimp. I ordered a steak that, without exaggeration, smelled like a rotting carcass. I sent it back and got something completely different which was bland. The service was good though. Overall I was extremely disappointed.
Nice atmosphere. Took my wife there and had one of their $17 pizzas. Not much to write home about. It had very little taste. If they insist on charging 5 star prices, they need to hire a 5 star staff. They were nice, but not on par with better restaurants.
We had a group of 7 come in on a Friday night. The service was good. The food was just okay. For the price, I was fairly disappointed. It seems like they're trying to do too much. The bread was very tasty and the dipping oil was nice. We had four burgers and none of them were cooked how we asked.
First time ordering here. We had been meaning to try it for the last few weeks. We were originally told 20 mins for a carryout order but ultimately waited 40 minutes total. Not a huge deal but you'd expect food to be ready when you're provided a pickup time. $40 later for 2 carryout sandwiches, I couldn't even eat my chicken parm sub. The chicken was unfortunately left in the fryer too long or something because it was hard and very dark. Hubby and I tried to switch meals but he couldnt eat it either. Luckily the sandwiches are big enough to share so we each had half of his sub. His sub was very good but he noted how half the sub had loads of meat while the other half didnt seem to have much. Again, not a huge deal, you could manually "fix" it. However, for a $20 sub, you shouldn't have to "doctor it up". We did end up calling and the guy who answered was apologetic and provided us with a gift card, which was very appreciated. We will try this place again as it could have been an off night. I loved the foil wrap around the subs. Kept my order hot. The sticker on the wrap is a nice personal touch as well as the carryout bag itself. Branding is done well. Looking forward to revising my review and increasing "stars" upon our next visit. Thank you!
Went to Halsey’s for dinner. We ordered an appetizer burnt ends of turkey with a sweet glaze. It was good but kind of cold. I ordered a bourbon chicken entree that was great but the rice it came with was so boring. My wife had the same rice with her salmon and it was also boring. Hers included a cauliflower side which was also very boring. My Green beans were good though. I was pleased with the service and atmosphere but underwhelmed with the food. It was pricey for mediocre because I expect each part to be good. I’d give Halseys a B-. My wife says she would give her salmon, $37, a C-. Neither of us finished our food.
Food didn’t arrive together in any way for our table, pasta dishes were only warm, failed to even bring our second bottle of wine in a timely fashion. This dinner fell way short of our expectations.
We had eaten here a number of times and were bringing company along hoping for some good food and atmosphere. I had little expectations for the a wine or beer list and that held true this time as it had in the past. The food is a solid B+ or A though overpriced. The accomodations within are superb and are the principal reason we decided to go there. The wait staff however is abysmal bordering on OMG why did I bring anyone here? This is the third time that it has not been pleasant and I can't see going back again. Lot's of fab places in Geneva to eat and this has not been one lately....
Arrived at 6:10pm and waited a half hour just to order. After ordering we saw our waiter only one more time before our meal arrived an hour later. Water remained unfilled, no explanation of what was taking so long. One of our party didn't receive their meal till 20 minutes after everyone else had their entree. Avoid the fig old fashioned. It's cheap bourbon with dried figs lacking in flavor. The "bone marrow" Pizza was leaving as well. No marrow visible and was mostly Bleu cheese. The late meal was comp'd but after two hours it felt like too little too late. Bourbon was overpriced as well. If you have an hour and a half to kill, enjoy the overly relaxed atmosphere and lack of communication at Hasley's.
They were out of a lot of items. I ordered the halseys salad that comes with goat cheese- it came out with blue cheese and when I brought it to my servers attention she said it was feta cheese. I asked for a “complicated” soda (ginger ale Shirley temple with a splash of pineapple & lime wedge) and it wasn’t done correctly- which is frustrating because if I ordered a dirty martini straight up bone dry ice on the side with blue cheese stuffed olives it would have been correct. Why did I order a soda that way- because there was no Mocktail menu to order from. The burnt ends presentation could have been better- no garnish just a bowl of meat. The crab cakes were dry and lacked flavor. The French fries were undercooked. I highly regret not just getting a pepperoni pizza. the food was underwhelming, the service could have been better. I couldn’t wait to finish and leave- highly disappointed in all aspects of the meal. The complimentary bread and oil was the best part! Warm, fluffy and lots of flavor. My daughter enjoyed her steak and my husband enjoyed his burger said it was a bit messy but if ever in Geneva again I won’t be returning to Halseys. The hostess was the BEST part she had great energy and was very kind and helpful. I really liked her and appreciate her going above and beyond I hope she gets tipped out.
This place was recommended by a local person we met. We had reservations at Kindred Fair but canceled based on the recommendation. Wish we hadn’t done that. I ordered the pork shank and it came to me with a cold center and tough dried out potato’s. Now I know these shanks are not cooked to order because they need hours to cook to be tender. So I sent it back to be heated more thoroughly. It came back to me cold near the bone again. My wife’s pizza was over done and the flavor profiles were overwhelming. Not a good experience. Should have stayed with our first choice.
I don't know how places like this stay open. The food is very expensive ($30-$45 entrees) and just ok. The portions are reasonable, but not huge, and the service was abysmal. It took us almost two hours to have dinner because our waitress was so busy with another table of 12 that we had to go looking for her when we wanted to order dessert. The only good thing was the "complimentary" bread and oil - extremely yummy, but we couldn't get enough because our waitress was so lousy. She even left empty water jugs and dishes on our table that we had to ask her to refill and clear. For the amount we paid for dinner, we should have had outstanding food and excellent service. This place is very disappointing, and we won't be back.
My wife and I chose to dine here for our 10 year anniversary dinner. Definitely a mistake! I got the lobster tortellini and the flavor was alright, but not great, and especially not for $36. The main disappointment about it was that there was literally 2 tiny peices of lobster with the dish and one of them had multiple pieces of shell on it. My wife got the bourbon chicken that came with "ancient rice", which was not even edible. The chicken it's self was mediocre at best. The complimentary bread was good though. The service was good. Atmosphere was good. But overall the restaurant pretty awful and I can't recommend it. Best part of the whole experience was our Andy's mints that came with the monstrous bill at the end.
I heard the next table describe their food as "perfect in concept but..." and that is exactly how I fealt about our meal and experience. We dined here for our anniversary and although it was a Saturday night, it wasn't busy. Three hostesses ignored us as we walked in but then then we when one greeted us they were very friendly. We say at our table for close to 10 minutes before they put it together that we didn't have a server. Our server was super nice and obviously still learning, and overall she did a good job. But also she was unknowledgeable. She took our order and brought us bread before we had cocktails. When I asked about the catch of the day she said Bass (I think) to which I responded hmm I don't know anything about it and she said "well other customers seem to like it". I asked how it was prepared and she responded "there's a plate of pasta and the fish is on top." At that point I just move on and ordered the steak. I thinks he would be an excellent server with some training as she was very pleasant. The calamari appetizer was really good, but I did wish it was on a bed of sauce rather than tossed in it. The bread and oil was excellent. Both of our meals (lamb chops and ribeye) had good flavor combinations and presentation but were executed poorly. The lamb was rare and the steak was med well. The carrots and asparagus were undercooked, both needed salt. Overall, nothing was terrible, but I wouldn't go back.
My guess is all the food is 'home cooked' in Sysco's industrial kitchen. Then bagged and frozen so lazy clueless 'cooks' can zap it or boil it in water (boil & bag) and slap it on a plate. And hope no one really notices........just pay the dang bill and come back again. Wise up folks.
I ordered the filet with mashed potatoes and vegetable of the day. The filet was mostly fat and could not be eaten. I ordered it rare and it was placed on top of the mashed potatoes bleeding all over. The asparagus was thin and scraggly which needed to be thrown in the garbage. The veal Demi glacé tasted like burnt veal scrapings on the bottom of a pan. When the server asked how everything was she did nothing to remedy the situation. This was a very disappointing experience.
Mediocre food at NYC prices…ordered the Greek pasta AND the gnocchi both were bland, merely just boiled pasta oil and some veggies. Waitress and service was really good but just not worth the food.
I had an awful experience- I was with a group of 8, and multiple people had complaints regarding the food. I had ordered an appetizer (wood fired meatballs) to share, which didn't come out until after my entree arrived. This ended up almost being a good thing, as I had to send my salmon back- the bottom was completely charred and inedible; at least I was able to eat something as the rest of my group ate their meals. A second salmon was prepared which was less burnt, but then the risotto was completely under-cooked. My friend asked for a medium well burger, which was entirely pink on the inside. She also requested that she get another burger, but ended up cancelling the order as it was taking too long. While waiting for our apps and entrees, the table had requested more bread and water- we never received the bread and the water came from a second server. Given the price for the food and drinks, I would expect to actually eat my meal, but instead I left hungry and unsatisfied. We were comped the meatballs, burger, and half the salmon, but I still would not recommend this place to anyone.
Worst. Meal. Ever. We both ordered the steaks and they were burned to a crisp. Sent one back, waited forever for a new one, finally gave up, and cancelled the meal. Left without dinner. It's really a shame because we used to enjoy the food here immensely.
1st time that we had dinner in Halsey's. I want to share our TRUE EXPERIENCE!! The dishes we ordered are TERRIBLE and it could be the WORST dinner I have ever had, based on my memory. CALAMARI---cold, not crispy, the red sauce made it worse; Definitely not fresh cooked!! Look like leftover!! PORK BELLY Burnt Ends-- cold, very chewy, too much char, not tasty at all!! Look like leftover!! THE PIZZA--claimed as "wood fired", All vegetables including Mushroom tasted like raw uncooked (we did not order the salad), and the dough was not crispy at all. It felt like cooked in the " wood fired" microwave for inadequate time!! Garlic butter SCALLOPS---OMG, you could even both smell and taste like long-term stored, non-fresh, and salty as hell!!! COCKTAIL---I was glad that I got rid of it since they ran out of some ingredient. BUT they still charged you in the receipt when I checked out!! SO Be Careful!!! My final note, it seems that the kitchen, prep and cooks have NO culinary experience, the consistency of the meals coming from the kitchen are poor. Recommendation would be to hire a head chef to get the kitchen and menu proper and correct.
First time and last time attending this restaurant. Our table sat at 8:30 — we ordered by 9:00 — didn’t get our food until 10. By the time we did get it; one dish was not correctly ordered, one was cold and undercooked, one was over cooked, the 4th was cold and over cooked to the point of it being not edible. We were comped for the two cold dishes, but with the amount of time we waiting and not one dish was as expected, it would have been more appreciated to cover the full check. If you make a reservation make sure they don’t have any large parties that night — they can’t handle the bandwidth of normal tables with party tables. Will never recommend or return to this establishment. Our wait staff was the only positive experience and was understanding, no fault of hers for the unprepared chef. Lastly, I did suffer mild food poisoning from the lack of proper preparation of our meal, for the portions I did manage to eat because it was after 10 and I was starving.
Ordered one of the house specials, “Chicken Cacciatore Lasagna” I ate about four bites before realizing it was room temperature, not hot. All I tasted was oregano. Told the waitress, and she said “so sorry” instead of offering something else. I felt nauseous before I even got home. So I called the restaurant and spoke to the hostess. I told her about the dish and I suggested that they not serve it to anyone else. No offer for compensation, just a thank you. $24 for indigestion. Kathy A.
Ordered on door dash it was 45 dollars for one sandwich and an order of plain fry’s. One bite of the sandwich and I immediately wrapped it up to hand deliver into my trash. The fry’s tasted like reheated McDonald’s fry’s with no salt.
