Found this place on google maps on our way to our Airbnb. Staff was really friendly and attentive. Food came fast, we tried the Brocoli, mushroom omelette, it was good, I really liked the hash browns that comes with it. We also try the stuffed French toast, we enjoyed it a lot. The dinner looks like a movie set. I would go back again if I’m around the area.

Crazy Otto's was a delicous stop 0on our way to the Erie canal Cruises. They had a table for 5 at 11am "busy as it gets" according to Google. Awesome breakfast menu with something for everyone

I stopped in for lunch on my way through town based off all the positive reviews and they were right! Staff is very friendly, had great conversation with waitress and chefs while waiting for my food. I couldn't decide between the loose caboose or thr reuben, Jennifer recommend the caboose and it was a great recommendation. The burger, fried egg and prime rib all blended perfectly to create the perfect burger. I meant to get a picture but it looked so good and I was very hungry and couldn't wait. The atmosphere is amazing! It's like stepping back in time to an old fashion dinner. I would definitely recommend stopping anytime. Also very close to the thruway, easy off easy on, lots of on street parking.

Travelled about an hour and some change to get here. Wait time was reasonable. Waitress was friendly and helpful. Food was prompt and excellent tasting. Best patty melt I've ever eaten.

Couldn't see what to get. Breakfast all day. Reuben's, chicken sandwich's, Cheesesteaks, Salads. And love, homemade chips. My favorite not a lot of salt which we liked. We definitely will be back.

Stopped in for breakfast and had a terrific experience. The service is fast and friendly, and big portions at a reasonable price. Got a bacon, egg and cheese on a roll and it came with hash browns. My wife got a fresh veggie omelette. Got one pancake that was HUGE! The diner is vibrant and has a great atmosphere, if you are nearby highly recommend stopping in.

What a cool place to be, especially close to Christmas. Great staff, always checking on you. Food that comes out looking and tasting exactly like you hoped it would. We need to get back there. A short detour off the Thruway. Step into an old school Diner that delivers.

There are diamonds in Herkimer! This little, old, hole in the wall is AMAZING!. Stopped for breakfast on a recommendation from a good friend. The coffee was delic! The pancakes were oversized beyond huge and the bacon was made to crispy like it was ordered. I want to go back now to try the lunch menu! The line was out the door with locals, so you know it has to be good! The staff is more than friendly, they like their job and know the food will satisfy customers. A rare 5 star ALL AROUND! Road tripping from Michigan. Always difficult to find Celiac friendly restaurants. Was pleasantly surprised with all of the GF options clearly marked on the menu. I had the GF pancake stack with eggs and bacon. It was fantastic and I felt fine after. Staff was very attentive and friendly. Great atmosphere! Highly recommend.

Wonderful place! Wonderful people! Was greeted promptly by Jennifer who let me guide myself to my seat. Immediately followed me to ask if I would like to start off with a drink(which I love!). I could see the coffee brewing as I walked in and knew I wanted some. Rich, good coffee and nicely hot. Jennifer, such a kind attentative woman, sold me on the special. A steak, pepper and onion omelette with pepper iack cheese, coupled with awesomely crispy hashbrowns and wheat toast at an unbeatable price! The food for the value is undeniably the best in three counties!!! 50 miles from home and couldn't have felt more welcome!!!!

Every year I return to Herkimer for our Family Reunion in Ilion. Every year I faithfully returned to the Empire Diner. This year Val took good care of me. I will return!

Stopped by while traveling through from Seattle. Good diner coffee, good omelette, and huge portions. The "half" omelette my partner ordered was still a big portion. You can get biscuits and gravy instead of toast with some of the breakfast meal options, and I recommend it! Nice service too. I'd come here again if I'm ever back in this area.

The place closes at 4pm on Saturdays. I called Jenny at 3:55pm from the road, and she said that they would still seat us. Wow, the service, food, and atmosphere were outstanding! I had a gluten-free Reuben with sweet potato fries that was perfect. Reba was a phenomenal server, and my family wasn't rushed at all. I'm definitely going back and bringing friends!

We aren't from around here and this place is a true family gem. It's such a great atmosphere and all the servers and owners are super nice and accommodating. We have always stopped at a Mass Pike or NYS Thruway Service Area for a bite to eat while traveling from Rochester to visit family in Massachusetts. With the NYS Thruway Service Area Reconstruction Project underway and lack of food options, we decided to search for local cuisine when the pangs of hunger kicked in. Top rated search in Herkimer area featured Otto’s Diner. Our friendly and helpful server, Jenny, recommended a number of menu items including their award winning corned beef hash and award winning hollandaise sauce. I then opted for the Irish Benedict. The hash was awesome - loaded with tons of tender corned beef. The hollandaise was creamy and delicious. The reviews are right on point. I highly recommend going a little off the beaten path of I-90 and visiting this nostalgic diner. Food and service are amazing! Always great to support local businesses as well.

Awesomeness. I would say this place is a gem in Herkimer. Just had breakfast there. Food was like home cooked fresh. Portion was great for the money. And the service was great. Valerie was on the spot, friendly and even told us some history of the diner. Will definitely return for lunch another day.

A sign in the diner's window reads "Voted New York State's Best Diner." The sign is not lying. The diner has fantastic food, friendly service, and reasonable prices. On top of the food the ambience is second to none. The diner itself is a 1952 Mountainview which still has many of it's original features. License plates from nearly every state and autographed band memorabilia are everywhere inside the diner. Elvis even ate their once. They even have a sandwich named for him. You cannot miss this place if you are in the area.

Great menu.Loved the Chicken Riggies (you can customize it...choosing mild, medium or hot sausage!) ...fantastic menu, enthused and informative waitress. A unique diner (Elvis ate there once!). I want to go back and order the peanut butter and butter - stuffed French toast! Wish I had known about this place before. Have driven by it dozens of times and missed it. Highly recommend the entire experience.

The Loose Caboose Burger is a MUST HAVE! 2021 visit: The menu at Crazy Ottos Empire Diner in Herkimer is unique, diverse, and expansive. I’ve been here multiple times and am always amazed. The service is exceptional and they make you feel like family. Our server was Rebecca. Went here today for Alison’s birthday and they sang her “Happy Birthday” plus gave her meal for free. The receipt is the last picture. All this for $60.40 plus tax.

There is a waitress that works there and she waited on that entire restaurant it seemed. Absolutely amazing! Patty is an amazing gentleman and we loved him as well. Please visit here, you will NOT be disappointed.

We stumbled upon this restaurant thanks to google and yelp. Parking lot is a bit tricky, but manageable. The service was friendly and prompt. The food was hot, and tasted great. We will certainly visit again, when we are back in the area. It is certainly worth a visit, we weren't disappointed.

This is the first time my wife & I have visited. We're always looking for unique places to eat a hearty breakfast when we're out on our road trips. Crazy Otto's definitely did not disappoint us. It's as nostalgic on the outside as it is inside. Lots of memorabilia to make your head spin. As for our breakfast, there's a reason why they offer the "Half" option. Their portions are amazing. We went with the "Full" and it's as if our plates disappeared underneath our "Vegetarian Omelettes with Hash Browns". They also have Gluten Free options. Which was a major plus for my wife.

This has become my tradition with my mom, coming here everytime I'm home in NY. We always come for their breakfast and amazing omelets. The serving size is hugeee. I love the denver omelette and mom raves about their coffee that they get from Boston. The staff is so nice, and are real people. The owner is such a great guy. We heard about Ottos in a Facebook group and decided to check it out, I'm glad we did. From the moment we walked in, everyone was friendly and welcoming. Our server Michelle, was fantastic, she made sure everything was just right and super friendly. I had prime rib and eggs, my wife had an omlette and out daughter had biscuits and gravy. Everything was made fresh and tasted great. Even though it's about a 50mi ride, we will definitely return to Otto's Empire Diner!

What a gem! My traveling cheerful traveling companions (yes, that's them in the picture) randomly stopped here on our trip from Rochester NY to Cape Cod and were all so glad we did! This is a 💯 American diner experience. The staff was welcoming and charming, the booth, table and tableware were clean, the coffee was hot, food was freshly made (not from a can or freezer) and and we were satisfied without being overstuffed. We ordered the Reuben with sweet potato fries, BLT on Italian bread with fries and a Western omelet with sourdough toast. We actually found it on Google Maps as we were looking for a place to stop for lunch and were so glad we opted for this little gem instead of all of the fast food chains. 10/10 recommend!

This was my first visit to crazy ottos Empire Diner in Herkimer. Love the shiny Diner! It was hard to choose but I went with the black and blue cheese burger. The burger was delicious but what I really enjoyed was the carrot slaw that came with it. I had never had this. The chips on the side also hit the spot after biking along the Empire State trail for the morning. If you're in Herkimer, visit the diner!

Come hungry. Short wait for a Sunday at 11:30am. Dining room was clean and cozy. Cute porch for sunny days. When the menu says it's enough for two it's more than enough to share. Chicken and waffles were crisp and crunchy. Hobo breakfast was full of delicious veggies and hashbrowns. Personally I would have liked the hashbrown to be darker but just a preference. Hot sause at the table a plus option. Staff is very friendly and accomodating for allergies and preferences. Friends of Bill W. are welcome.

I would drive way out of my way to come here. The staff are outgoing, the communication between servers and the back of house is efficient and well trained, the decorations are fun and eye catching. My western sandwich featured massive chunks of ham with a buttery perfectly-cooked hash brown side. Slice of banana cream pie was heavenly and the best vanilla milkshake I’ve ever had. Will return and bring the family. Incredible.

Excellent food and prices are a little bit high but quality and quantity are Excellent!!

Great environment and staff. Cool vibes! Just know that what they call home fries are very much hash browns. Overall, a fun road trip stop for a bite. ALSO THEY MADE A BIG OMELET THAT WON AN AWARD!

Food is pretty good, though seemed a little thrown together hastily. Overall though it wasn't bad. Portions were big. A decent breakfast or lunch option. The prices are definitely a little too high though, especially for things like the biscuits and gravy, which has a sweetness to it I can't get behind. Like I said though, a great local diner option, especially for breakfast. Stuffed French toast is a must try. Italian breakfast always a hit. Thanks for your reply, but it wasn't shifted, there just wasn't nearly enough egg in the omelet to account for other ingredients, leaving it barely holding together. Mistakes do happen. Much, much better today however.

I Visited this fascinating restaurant while I was on vacation. I thought all the art and collectibles on the walls were super cool. Not to mention the food was good too. I ordered two eggs over medium, bacon , white toast and home fries. My wife ordered the crazy pancake combo it Starts with two eggs, any style, with your choice of ham, bacon or sausage. Two slices of bread and 3 big pancakes. Our waitress was so friendly and helpful too.

We had our first so so meal here it was eattable but far from the good food we were used to getting here portions are smaller and the coffee was warm water maybe Saturdays are days not to go it was the first time for a Saturday for us . Service was still good and friendly. But let's face it we all go for the food ! We have dined in and had take out .The food is good the staff is friendly and the atmosphere is fun .

Updating this after feedback from the owner: Having had the corned beef hash twice before, I ordered it again. After waiting more than 30 minutes for my breakfast, I could not find any actual pieces of corned beef and it was not nearly as good as in the past. Eggs and biscuit were good.

This was one of many visits the through the years. One last summer and it was not great and pretty expensive. Today it was not that busy when we got there and it we were the last table to get our food. 50 minutes for eggs and pancakes. It was not hot and my gravy was cool and not the way you want your food. Highly disappointed and even more expensive than before. Will not ever be returning. They did comp the check after many excuses and our complaints. It was pretty clear that our meal was forgotten. As a business owner myself, I would’ve comped the check with no questions asked and a lot of apologies. At this point, I’m happy that I didn’t pay for my advertisement to go on your tables. My husband and I love to go out to eat and do not mind paying for good food and good service. This was neither. FYI I never ask for my check to be comped, but that’s how terrible this experience was!

First time dining here,atmosphere far exceeded food!!! My coffee was so weak I could see bottom of my cup,basically brown water,syrup on table was the same,Very Watery,so disappointing on my pancakes,sausage patty was perfectly cooked, had absolutely No Flavor,absolutely No seasonings were used in the making of the meat,you can look at sausage after cut and see that and $15.00 for frozen chicken tenders!!!! If you’re looking to have a great meal and socialize with friends or family at the same time, DON’T go to Crazy Otto’s. At least the name is correct: it’s CRAZY that after your meal you get KICKED out so the staff can flip your table and run their customers through like an assembly line. Never in my life have I been asked to leave, but “Jodi” will promptly come to your table and ask you to leave after your bill is paid, REGARDLESS of whether you’ve finished your meal or NOT! Our server was amazing, but when I go out with my friends (whom I haven’t seen in a while) it’s nice to sit back and sip our coffee and catch up. The staff at Crazy Otto’s won’t have to worry about us taking up their precious space, we’ll take our business elsewhere and YOU SHOULD TOO!!!

My husband ordered Eggs Benedict. The breakfast came with the eggs etc., smothered in hollandaise sauce. It was so horrible and he could not eat most of it. My toast was burnt. They offered to redo but after waiting about 45 minutes we had a tour to get too, and my husband did not want anything else from this place. Worst breakfast he ever had.

Food 1 star, service was amazing and atmosphere was amazing too. 22+ tip for eggs hash browns and sausage with toast. Potatoes were burnt and eggs was over cooked. I went around 11am so not sure if that was rush hour but for 22+ for a plate of average proportions to any other diner that shouldn’t be my problem. I’ve been here several times and order the same thing. Not once have I felt it worth the price unless they pay their workers a fair wage then that’s fine then ig. Would love to change this sauce there so close but only time will tell.
