In the shadow of The Taco Stand, lies the best secret in La Jolla. Maybe even in all of San Diego. It wouldn’t be fair to call this just another Mexican spot. There’s more to it than that. But what they serve is simple. Real authentic, well made Mexican food. I’ll keep it simple. The burritos have to be the best in the city. The Asada burrito had to be the best in the city. Huge burrito. It contains only steak and guac. What more can you ask for?! No filling of cabbage or cheese or beans. Straight up tortilla, asada, and guacamole

Awesome value Mexican food spot! Found Don Carlos on yelp...and didn't realize it is down the street from Taco Stand. I felt super hungry, so I ordered a bit for myself (and gave my brother leftovers). -carne asada burrito $11.50 -carne asada quesadilla $12 +$3 surcharge for deluxe (sour crema and guac) Burrito had only steak, guac, and pico. A pound of food. It was really good. I would probably add cheese next time around. Quesadilla was good as well, but obviously, way too much food to eat both. There's minimal seating inside and outside. Good place for take out. Food definitely takes some time to come out. Street parking only.

always delicious plates at don carlos, one of my favorite spots in san diego. as a vegetarian, i really appreciate their variety of options and meat alternatives. highly recommend the scripps burrito, nachos with mushrooms and enjoying a fresh plate of mexican food on their patio. always friendly service too :) thanks, don carlos!

There’s a reason it’s already got a high rating. The best Mexican food in SD. The burritos are massive (probably bigger than a shaq shoe) and affordable. You’re basically paying 2 meals for the price of one. So yeah it’s good and it’s well priced!

Best Mexican Food In La Jolla. Delicious, good portions, and the service is always great. Friendly and welcoming staff. My girlfriend and I especially appreciate the variety of meat options and Vegan options so we can both get exactly what we want. Scripps burrito (specify no cheese or sour cream) is the best Vegan Burrito we’ve had. For meat the classic carne asada with cheese added always hits, or try many of the loaded options including the Don Carlos Combo (pictured). Care definitely goes into the menu and preparation. Whether local or visiting San Diego, you’ll want to stop by for a great taco shop meal.

This place is so GOOD. Excellent service, generous portions, everything is so tasty. The girl at the front works with the speed and productivity of 100 people. We had the California burrito, carnitas chimichangas, and the blackberry and cream cheese sweet tamales. 11/10 would recommend, I wish there was one near my house.

Price and portion was Great. Food was good and probably even better if I didn’t order delivery. Cali Burrito was big, Hard shell shredded beef taco was decent, the steak taco was great with a ton of steak and flavor. Would recommend to anyone and especially anyone trying to feed the entire family without spending a ton.

Awesome food (seriously!), wonderfully large portion sizes (incredible prices for the size too!!!) nice staff, quick service. Images attached of the location, menu, and some food :) (My hand in the pics is around 6 inches, for scale). It's amazing. Please try this place at least once. Seriously. If you're thinking about getting some food from here, please do! Amazing. 100/10. Literally perfect

The service was great. They are very friendly and inviting. I ordered the combo plate with steak asada and pork tacos. Both were delicious and big portions of meat were served. Some places do not fill tacos with a lot of meat. These tacos are a big size and filled more than adequately. The refried beans need more flavor. The salsas were ok, but not outstanding. The green salsa was the more spicy one. I would return here to try their Birria tacos.

Place is pretty chill. Food is good. Place looks like it’s family owned. Needs to improve cleanliness a lil bit but overall the place is decent and service is good. Will definitely come back. Free street parking on the spot ✔️
