Good food and prices, excellent service and nice people.
Great sushi with reasonable prices near the waterfront; an excellent place to wait for a train.
Delicious food. Good service. Pleasant ambience. Convenient location.

Food was great!! I had lunch special and it was pretty good!
Great food, love the atmosphere. Will definitely come back.
Food and presentation, very good. Priced well, service excellent
Great sushi rolls with large portions. Fantastic flavors overall and an unexpected find in PoK.
We've gone for lunch every few weeks for the past year. Sushi is always delicious, service is fast, staff is friendly.
I order here many times and their food is delicious, and I recommend this place to anyone who is looking for amazing quality food.
Excellent service, food, and quiet atmosphere. Great date night dinner for a couple who need some down time.
The food is always fabulous and the staff is great!! There's no better Japanese food in Poughkeepsie than Akari!
I doordash and ppl order from here all the time. As a driver. Their customer service is always professional and courteous.
Cheap and good quality sushi. Very friendly staff :)
We love their specialty rolls. Just wish they had a happy hour
Great food. The staff is always so helpful and the food is always fresh!
Staff was Great & the food was even Better!! This is my New GoTo Sushi spot❣❣❣
Great sushi! Really fresh in comparison to the other sushi places I've been to.
Not only was the sushi good but I could tell that the ingredients were fresh. The presentation was immaculate and I could tell that they put a lot of love, care, and attention to detail in each plate.
I love this sushi place!!! It’s really really good now and has always been!!! The staff are really kind and helpful!! I always get the lunch special sashimi with miso soup and a few extra tuna rolls on the side.
Great time. Service was quick. Food came out fast and was delicious. It was my first time here. I will definitely be back to try more.
The best sushi in Dutchess county!!!! They have a big selection and I have never had something that I didn't like. Recommend this restaurant to everyone. Don't miss out!!!!!
This was a great find!! The sushi and sake options are fantastic. The service is also very good. The location right at metro north and the walkway over the hudson are also very convenient.
I ordered both types of dumplings Shumai and Gyoza. Gyoza was bigger than the other, Both were great. I ordered a Teriyaki Salmon. It was perfect, Cut thin, like a thin cutlet. I had no sushi.
Very good sushi, like the lunch roll special. Reasonably priced. Staff is always very friendly.
Absolutely amazing food, such a diverse menu full of something for everyone and such quality, you know they put thought into every dish
Lots of selections. Good qualities. Lunch cost around $14 plus tax. Services are good.
A local favorite among Culinary Institute of America Students... So it must be good! Great value, and best sushi period
Best service. Very reasonably priced and tastes pretty good. I have been coming here everytime I visit poughkeepsie.
Fast and fresh food and excellent service. Had salmon teriyaki and miso soup. Both were great!
This place has excellent food! Love it. we ate with family members one of which has an extreme allergy to some foods and the cooks understood exactly what he could and could not have and so did the servers!
One of my favorite places to eat the two waitresses are very sweet. I always look forward to going there.
Great food, great service, and great price for sushi of this quality. I am a college student so money is tight but i still try to get down there once a month. the location is great. right next to the train station. for lunch i recommend the roll lunch you get 3 rolls for $11 and a soup or salad. I recommend getting the soup. they also have yummy tea which is free and hot.
Very cozy atmosphere. Anyone who looks at my reviews knows the atmosphere of the place is a big teller for me. The food is authentic Japanese style and it's delicious. The Udon noodles were cooked to perfection and the calamari we ate was soft and tasted great. Another dish I had was the Katsu Chicken and it was cooked with delicate care. Arigato Gozaimasu Akari!
I am now 16 I’ve been coming here since I was 2 and I’ve love it every time. I’ve been here enough times that the waitress’s have learn me and my family’s names and all of our birthdays. It’s my favorite place to eat in the whole world. I’ve recently moved away and am very sad, but plan to take my girlfriend here on a date when we go out to eat.
Got two hibachi meals the other day from DoorDash and it was such good food. Everything was hot fresh and so delicious. Will definitely be ordering more. Highly recommend the shrimp hibachi with fried rice and the noodles
Fresh and tasty sushi. Friendly staff and clean establishment. I love the seafood kimchi soup and their seaweed salad. Wonderful for romantic dates to business meetings and even for children. Lovely place to go. They offer take out!
Very busy for a Monday night which took a while to get the food, but 3 servers were very attentive. Enjoyed a miso soup, crazy roll (5 star!), and a spicy salmon roll. Absolutely fresh and delicious!
Love it here! The sushi is always fresh and delicious. Winnie is the BEST, her and the staff are polite and professional. This is family favorite spot for us.
Its a small place, but the special rolls were very creative AND tasty. Ill be back for more. Pricing is well under what most places charge for a meal.
Their food is so good my kids ate without complaint--that is no easy feat! My sister tried this place for the first time and really enjoyed their vegetarian dish. Their sushi is always very fresh and flavorful.
Visited Akari for Sunday lunch. Food was incredible. Sushi was very fresh and delicious. You can't always find good octopus, but they had it. The restaurant is very nicely decorated and the staff was very helpful. Would definitely recommend Akari Sushi for any sushi lover. Chris@ North East Ford
Delicious sushi served in very generous portions, even for lunch! The server was attentive and friendly. I felt able to linger, but I was also taken care of promptly, which is nice if you are on a lunch break.
Best sushi around, especially the specialty rolls. The goyza and appetizers are very good too. Fair prices, good service. Snow mountain roll is my top choice
I lived in the Poughkeepsie area for over 6 years and ate here probably over 100 times. You will not find better sushi at this price within 100 miles. If you’re looking for sushi, this is the place to go.
Amazing food, great service and good portion sizes.
Got the sushi for three. Was very nice presented and very tasty! Winniee took care of us and we were very happy with everything
Everything is so flavorful and fresh, packed with love . Spicy California Roll and Amazing Roll are so good. I never liked sushi until i tried this place- now i’m obsessed! the spicy mayo is so tasty. only issue was they only gave me 1 out of 2 of the orders of california rolls but i got refunded through doordash.
Food was fresh and delicious, and they were great with my young kids! Great option after the kids museum!
Fantastic service! I was stuck on the Amtrak platform for four hours. I called the pub next door and they wouldn’t walk me over food. But Akari played ball and was so gracious to meet me at the platform (I couldn’t leave as our train was going to leave any minute, allegedly.) Thank you so much to the Akari team! The sushi and the fried shrimp appetizer were solid!
Me and my girlfriend went here after a long trip back on the train. The prices were great, the food was delicious, and I got enough in my lunch combo to have leftovers! Wonderful place with quick service :)
The sushi is fresh=fantastic! I wish the pieces were bigger but there is a perfect balance between rice and sushi. My wife goes to Albany at times so I pick her up in Poughkepsie and we ALWAYS go here for take out. It's not fancy but it's clean and the food is A PLUS
Missed our train and used the time to get a lunch bento box at Akari. Wonderful fresh, shining flavours and kind service. The food was far better than some of the fancy restaurants we got to in the city near our office. Looking for an opportunity to come back. If I lived in Poughkeepsie, I’d be there a lot.
Food was immaculate and servers were very kind. Despite it being 730 pm and what I would imagine to be a very busy time, we were able to get our food promptly. That all said, the main thing prompting me in posting this review is having seen a full grown man snap at a waitress over a bowl of soup, (an issue which she quickly offered to resolve) followed by about 15 minutes of complaining. My guy, if you decided to post a bad review over a bowl of soup at rush hour at a restaurant, shame on you. This place is great.
Prompt service and great sushi in a charming little spot by the train station. Gyoza and scallion pancakes were excellent, and along with 3 simple sushi rolls and some hot sake my husband and I ate a quick and satisfying dinner for just over $50. Will definitely be back and can’t wait to try more items on their extensive menu.
Some of the best sushi I've ever had. The teriyaki was amazing, too; and a big portion! Bring an appetite. My only complaint about the place was some of the flowers were withering, but the fact that there were roses and they were REAL, shows a commitment to the guests that they spend money to provide an enjoyable experience. I will ABSOLUTELY be back to try some other items from the menu.
The food is great, the staff is friendly (including the chief) and clean throughout.
Good sushi. 🍣 wide range of fresh fish. Wine and beer. Service quick
Generously portioned meals, fairly priced, our waitress was very efficient. Would return 👍🏽👍🏽
Favorite place to stop for sushi lunch. Budget friendly, nice staff, and good atmosphere.
Good sushi, great access from Poughkeepsie train station. Friendly service.
Better than average sushi. Good atmosphere. Reasonable prices. Try the avocado eel.
Probably the best sushi in Poughkeepsie. The selection is limited for other types of dishes but why would you want something else?
Great little place to eat while waiting for a train 💖 I enjoy the food and the service. They charge for hot sauce though 😅 Aside from that yum!
Got takeout for the Akari roll. It was very delicious and the price is reasonable. Very nice servers and would go often for me sushi cravings
Me and my partner only order takeout and it has always been an easy process. Last night we decided to eat a lttle more lightly so had their soba noodle soup, tempura veggies, a simple sushi roll and miso soup. All of the food was really good although tempura is always tricky to bring home but it was beter than expected. The sushi while a simple roll was well done with fresh fish and sushi rice that was tender. Someday we'll actually eat in their small yet cozy dining area.
The restaurant was empty other than us and one other small group and in the 20 minutes we spent eating we were asking 7 times about how things were and if we were done with any dishes. I'm not sure if they were just bored with no one there or what but it was very inappropriate if I'm paying to eat out I'd like to enjoy my meal and my conversation with my group
Super quick take out order before I needed to take the train. They are kind and accurate. Sushi rolls were what I expected. Good Japanese lunch spot in downtown Poughkeepsie.
The atmosphere is calm and nicely decorated and tge staff is always friendly. This is a facorite spot of ours, usually for the sushi options. They have bento and fried ice cream which is something not as easily found in the area. This is a great place for a dinner for two, or for family.
Sushi is good, Kani salad is OK. Too much crunch, not enough spicy mayo or crab and cucumber. Good food tho.
I wanted to try a bunch of Japanese-style fish that I think I hadn't had before, so I ordered sea bass, mackerel, surf clam, & fluke. I also have rarely had seared tuna. None of them disappointed at all! Only thing missing was beer, sake, or green tea.
This is a cute little place to get Asian food. Food was good, but the atmosphere was okay
First time and I was in awe! The atmosphere of the restaurant was amazing, very friendly and attentive staff. The restaurant is a little small, but I love how they utilized the space. The food was very good 8/10 for me. From the apps to the entree, everything was delicious. It was my first time trying sushi and I was not disappointed. I will definitely be back here again. I recommend this place to anyone who wants to try a creative, new spin on Japanese cuisines. The food was served very hot, and the service was very quick.
While i was waiting for the train around noon, i call quick meal to fill my belly. The restaurant is quiet empty so the service in the restaurant is okay. about the food i ordered tonkatsu(pork cut-let). The dish is simple, the pork is crispy(good) with rice and some lectuce but the sauce is sour, it is not balance and tatse bad with rice and the meat. So i have to put some soy sauce over. Overall, the tonkatsu dish is not that good, because of the sauce. My recomendation is fix the sauce, the sauce will boost the flavor more.
AWFUL SERVICE. The girl was so rude and condescending. Such a shame because the food was pretty okay and portion was good for the price. I would not go out of my way to eat there, but it's conveniently located across the station. If you go during this pandemic, call first to order and then be there early to wait at their door. THEY WILL JUST LET YOUR FOOD SIT WITHOUT TELLING YOU EVEN AFTER ASKING FOR YOUR PHONE NUMBER, ESP IF YOU DON'T HAVE AN 845 AREA CODE.
Went for lunch yesterday, the food is okay but the place is very messy. They were many boxes of unpacked food and supplies, on the floor. Which gave me the feeling I was eating in a store room closet or something . Unfortunately from our table we could see all that mess throughout our entire meal. The little showcases where they have the fish are not clean looking. And the mint bowl at the checkout had a melted mint in there which needed to be cleaned The music that was playing was this weird mix of elevator music that got really annoying after a while. At least play Japanese elevator music They really need to do some housekeeping
Ok food. Not bad but not spectacular either. Would have been 4 stars but they need to work on their hygiene. There was hair in my sushi. Had no time to go back to them.
Hit or miss. I've been here and had tender/good quality sushi and then other times it's more tough and old tasting. I want to love if because the quality of service is excellent. I just wish there was more consistency.
Although service is excellent, the food is way better at Bonsai by Starbucks & Table Talk Diner. Don't expect Akari service though.
The food was excellent. However, twice I have been here and both times they brought my check and "forgot" to charge the happy hour prices.
Place smelled. Food didn't last the ride home before it had an off taste.
Steak was very tough in hibachi. They brought food out to fast after appetizers and made us feel rushed. Water tasted like bleach . Kept coming iver to take food away when we werent done . Told me wifi is not for customers . I told her i needed it to pay with apple pay i had no service . She would not give me wifi code . Never going back .
I got sick immediately after I ate there food. There was an evil looking man watching me eat. I would never eat here again. Service was bad, and they were rude.
Where to begin... Ah, first a disclaimer. I have eaten here ONLY ONCE from a delivery order. I have no affiliation with ANY restaurants anywhere. I say this because I am going to come off as being particularly mean in this review. Its not my intention. I am being honest with my review. I have also eaten at EVERY sushi place in the poughkeepsie area, literally, both takeout/delivery and in shop. So I am quite annoyed that this review was even necessary. I am only writing this because of me being REALLY sure something funny happened with my order otherwise I would chalk it up to just maybe ME being off. But no, it was either a poor chef job or reheated food in a microwave or something... I know for a fact that SOMETHING was wrong in this situation. The Beef Teriyaki. The beef appears to have been cooked from two different pieces which itself, that is fine. What isn't fine is that one was basically cooked 'blue' while the other was medium well. If the inconsistency wasn't enough, it also tasted like it was frozen/re-heated. The texture was very chewy and then suddenly TOUGH. How does that happen? The Chicken teriyaki also tasted... reheated is the only word I can think. The texture of it was "wrong". I don't know how to properly describe it. The rice which is a staple of Japanese cuisine was not something to write home about. Its the one thing which SHOULD have been right but wasn't. The meats, I get it. Not always gonna get right. But getting the rice wrong. By wrong, let me explain. You know the white rice you get from the uncle bens packets. That is EXACTLY what it was like. It had no business calling itself sushi rice. The sides (kani salad and seaweed salad) were actually pretty good. Also, the rolls were fine too, if a little loose, but not the worst. Its the entrees... Nothing else being good was enough to salvage those two entrees. I will be avoiding future orders from here. I cannot GIVE points when the two main dishes were just BAD. Its probably covid related, which is fine. I just wish they would then take the dishes off the menu and leave it as rolls/sides to avoid any bad food.
I spent over $70 and my sushi rolls where so thin it was ridiculous. Akari use to be amazing and whenever I ordered food from them they never disappointed. I am very unhappy with my order and will not be going back.
horrible customer service. i asked for the sushi very politely, they messed it up, and then when i told them that, they told me to shut up and that i was the one who messed up even though i repeated myself to make sure they heard it right because it’s happened in the past where they messed it up. they told me to shut up and listen to them, and then demanded 15 extra dollars for what i already paid for. horrible customer service.
I ate there today and now I have food poisoning. Work pain and in the world. There wasn’t any other customers so I’m thinking they use food that’s not fresh. I’ve been I’ll since I left.I wouldn’t suggest it.
The food is mediocre at best. Last time I ordered from them they screwed up my order and promised to credit me money to my next order. They said they would give me 10 dollars off. I took them at their word, So I decide to give them a chance to make it right. Went into the store today and they refused to honor the agreement. So buyer beware of their unethical business practices !! Avoid them at all cost because they will rip you off.
What a bad experience. I went with my son today after school for a quiet dinner. There was only one couple there when we got there but regardless the first waitress Winny gave us attitude bc we needed a minute to decide on a drink. I mean Im not Japanese. I wanted to see what they had. That was the start. She must've said something bc out came the second waitress who was decent but once the other couple left the atmosphere changed in there. I was peaceful about it at first but they completely tried to disrespect me in front of my son. The last straw was when they turned up the radio full blast in the middle of a song. We were supposed to be having a nice time me and my son. I left that place upset and she got no tip plus I wrote bad service on there. This review is proof enough that you cannot treat ppl anyway you want and think they are powerless. I am letting then know if they read this that they need new waitresses and sushi ppl. Its those ppl who make a difference in any business and now you know... Youre business can do better without them. Thanks for ruining our dinner.
Tell me how i get there at around 830pm for dinner. They don’t even greet us. First thing they said was, “we’re closing at 930 so please order fast.” I’m like, okay?? So we order food at around 840 and get it by 850. Then at around 9 they tell us they’re closing earlier so we had to hurry up. By 910 they were legit kicking us out of the restaurant. I have no idea who that server with the glasses is, but she’s lucky she even got any tip at all from us. I didn’t want to leave anything but i wanted to be at least decent about it. I’ve been going there for about 10 years now, never going back tho.
