My friend found this place from another friend. We planned it to the weekend specially a Sunday and around 7.30pm. The reason? Because they don't take reservations and we wanted to find it reasonably free so that we can be seated soon. We reached there and there was a half an hour wait. We bought our drinks and waited. The atmosphere around and in the restaurant made us fall in love with it before we had the food. So after we sat down, ordered almost everything from the menu. The highlights were the lamb chops, the prawns and the calamari! We moved onto the deserts which were really good. The staff were exceptional. Plus the bill was very economical considering the amount of food we had. The total bill was 72£ for four people. A lovely evening with great food with friends.

What a great restaurant. The food smelt and tasted fantastic. Booked this for our trip to Manchester and I am glad we did. The place was packed and not surprising. Would definitely go again when I am back in Manchester as not far on the tram

As recommended by a friend S, I went on the off-chance of them being able to fit me in for a late lunch, as visiting from Yorkshire. It was packed even at 3pm. After a wait a table was freed up and what a bonus. The staff were professional and efficient and very cheerful and polite. Had Patatas bravas and beef cheeks with an excellent dry white wine. Will return but I do advice booking. Excellent all round, thank you.

I recently dined at this restaurant and had a delightful experience. I savored a variety of dishes including Boquerones Marinados, Monkfish, Ham Croquets, Saquitos de Cordero, Chorizo a la Sidra, Papas Bravas, Pimientos de Padron, and Calamares Fritos. The Best Tapas Restaurant in Manchester! This place feels like a little slice of Spain in the heart of Manchester. The atmosphere is authentic, and the food is absolutely incredible. The sangria was delightful, and the pan fresco con alioli was full of flavour. If you’re planning to visit, I highly recommend trying: Cojonudo Trufado: I can’t even begin to explain how delicious this tapa is – an absolute must-try! Croquetas San Juan: Perfectly crispy and packed with flavour. Carrilleras de Ternera: Melt-in-your-mouth beef cheek – just incredible. Saquitos de Cordero: While lamb isn’t my favourite, the sauce on this dish was sensational. I honestly cannot wait to come back to this amazing restaurant. Highly recommend it to anyone looking for authentic Spanish tapas!

Finally got in to eat here after months of trying to get a reservation. The food is beyond belief and by far the best Spanish tapas we’ve had in Manchester, miles better than what others tout, especially in the city centre. The service is amazing and the staff super friendly. We over ordered, but every dish was sublime. My only criticism is because it’s a slightly small space, it gets very loud, which makes it hard to hear, but the food more than makes up for it. Will definitely be returning - definitely worth the hype.

This is by far one of the best restaurants I've been to. The service is excellent, the staff are very friendly and create such a lovely atmosphere. The food is outstanding, and every mouthful is perfect and a delight for the senses. I think we managed to order nearly every dish on the menu. It's a very popular place so would recommend booking in advance. If I could give this place more stars, I would. I highly recommend a visit.

so lovely! waiters were very helpful with making space on the table and reminding us when the heat lamp turned off outside (needed for manchester weather!), and the dishes came spread out which was very handy as once we finished one, another would appear! the prawns were extremely good and i am a prawn critic, i know a good prawn when i have one and these were 10/10!!! very juicy and flavoursome, and even with the rain i was still having an amazing chomp!! with a group of four with soft drinks and 2 dishes each, it was 70 pounds which is very good for the area.

What an amazing place to visit. It has a real authentic Spanish theme running all the way through, you could Forget you are in Manchester! Very helpful staff, no job was too small and they were very pleased to help .The food came quick and hot, it was excellent food. We stayed there past the time we was allotted because we were having so much fun there. The food is a large selection of tapas, vegetarian and meat dishes. If you are ever in Manchester definitely worth a visit. There were seven of us, It was a little cramped but we managed to make it work and to be fair it was a good experience, it felt like a very very family oriented place warm and welcoming. If you are not driving, have some of their sangria, best of the best I have had, Which is quite weird because I was in Manchester. Loved this place, great Tapa's in what felt like a little corner of a Spanish city. All the food was lush but standouts for me were the Pulpo, Cod cheeks and Ox cheek. Simply delicious. Good choice of wines and Spanish beer/cider. Very busy so you need to book but I could not fault anything.

Bar San Juan has the best tapas I've had outside of Madrid! The flavors were spot on, and every dish was packed with authenticity. The atmosphere felt cozy and welcoming, making it a great spot to enjoy a meal with friends. I can't recommend it enough!

If you want to have authentic Spanish food, atmosphere and hospitability definitely come here because once you step inside it’s like you are in Spain. Everything on the menu is 100% Spanish unlike some other spanish tapas bars. Please come try this place out!

Had a fabulous lunch today. The place was packed as soon as it opened, so I recommend booking. The food came fairly quickly, and in manageable intervals. Each dish was delicious. The beef cheeks and the lamb parcels were a real highlight - simply fabulous. The staff were very friendly and prompt. Overall, I think Bar San Juan deserves it's reputation as one of the best tapas places around. It felt like we'd gone on holiday for a couple of hours. We will definitely be back.

Has a great reputation and rightly so. Super busy even on a Thursday lunchtime. Food is amazing. 6 out of 7 of our dishes were 5*, the other 4*. We enjoyed chorizo, goats cheese, papas bravas, calamari, bread and manchego, washed down with sangria and Spanish beer. Monkfish was the highly, meaty and juicy and piping hot. Staff are jovial, loud in a good way and friendly. Environment is small but that just adds to the authentic atmosphere. A great place.

What an amazing find. Small authentic tapas bar. A little piece of Spain in Chorlton! We had 12 different tapas between 4 paired with delicious Spanish beer, cider and wines. The place feels really Spanish, right down to the tiled walls and Spanish chatter from the staff. Really quick and efficient service and a relaxed friendly atmosphere. The tapas are the best I have ever eaten, either in the UK or in Spain! Delicious.

The food is absolutely delicious; best octopus I've had in ages. Lamb parcels and the baked veg with goats cheese were also highlights. Very good service too! Best to book ahead though as it was full on a Tuesday early evening - we ended up on the only table outside which isn't heated.

We just had lunch at this fantastic gem of a place, no wonder you are lucky to get a table as a walk in with no prior bookings!! The service is warm and friendly promoting that family fun feel, with the right mix of attentiveness. The food is on another level, from the perfectly cooked monkfish to the divine Beef cheek that melts on your tongue. This place is not on the budget side but if you want to have delightful food it is well worth the money! I will most defiantly be returning, probably sooner rather than later. Many thanks for a delicious lunch!

I had dinner here yesterday - their food is GOOD, is always so hard to find an authentic cuisine from Europe that doesn't adjust to the habits of the country they're in. Simple ingredients = delicious meals 😋. The atmosphere inside the place is so cozy yet friendly and "sunny" that for a moment I forgot I was in the UK. Staff is smiley, vibing with the music on the speaker, especially at the end of the service (it's a lovely thing). Also, they have been very helpful when we notified them about our allergies. 5 stars for you amigos!

Really reminiscent of the tapas bars I visited in Bilbao and San Sebastián last year. The food is really delicious. Lamb parcels are full of flavour and the beef cheeks are delicious and melt in the mouth.

We were walk ups on a Saturday night ,it took just a few minutes for us to get a table outside under the heaters. Staff were very welcoming and friendly. Menu is compact and portion sizes are nice. The food was lovely, really well presented tasty meal, the atmosphere both outside and in was busy and vibrant but not uncomfortable. Wold definitely recommend for some great tasting tapas.

Intentamos hacer reserva para 2 personas para almorzar un domingo, pero no había disponibilidad. Cogimos Pan Ca’San Juan para picar (recomendable coger una ración por persona - está demasiado rico y a mí me cuesta compartirlo porque lo quiero todo para mí y me gusta tener pan de sobra para mojar 🤭), de l sección de pescados y mariscos cogimos la Gambas Pil-Pil y el Pulpo a la Gallega, de la sección de carne cogimos la croquetas, y de la sección de verduras los Pimientos de Padrón y el Pisto con Queso de Cabra Gratinado (estos sí a compartir entre 2). Estaba todo riquísimo como siempre, aún estoy pensando en la comida mientras escribo el review 🤤 Pagamos unos £60 entre 2 personas, por 6 tapas y 2 bebidas. Lovely authentic tapas bar in a great location. The staff are incredibly helpful and attentive and the food was sooo good!! The boquerones and the menu specials specifically was insanely good. It’s quite hard to get a reservation so make sure to book well ahead. We were sat outside (under heaters) but would have loved to be indoors so make sure to request that if sitting inside is a non-negotiable for you! Definitely reccomend though and will be back.

I’ve gone to Bar San Juan more times than I can remember. We normally pop down beech road and hope for a walk in and sometimes we get lucky. But If you’re planning to go for a specific time I definitely recommend booking. As always the food is phenomenal I’ve never had an issue, staff always so attentive and the wine is very nice. My favourite restaurant! Can’t recommend more.

Best Spanish bar I’ve tried in the UK. Prices are more reasonable than anywhere else and food is genuinely good and similar to what we have in Spain. The staff is lovely and attentive and the ambient always makes me feel a bit more at home. It’s best to book a table, although they tend to have some free spaces on the bar. The croquetas are very good, although my favourite pintxo is the peppers filled with morcilla. Last time I went, the octopus tasted a bit too smoked, but otherwise, it was tender.

We order 7 tapas for both of us to share and we feel it was the right amount: pan can san juan, cojonudo trufado, papas bravas, Croquetas, saquitos de cordero, pisto con queso, pulpo. All were very tasty. Our favorites were the saquitos de cordero and pisto con queso. I personally found the papas bravas sauce too spicy for me but my husband enjoyed it. For desserts we had the Pudding and the Natillas Caseras. Both were very good and our favourite was the Natillas. It was our first time and we will definitely come back to try more things from the menu

Atleast now I can tell you, as a matter of fact, that it's consistently one of the best Tapas restaurants in Manchester. There's a reason it's so highly rated and it can be sometime before snagging a reservation, but they do accommodate walk ins so take your chance. 6 stars. Manchester institution.

What an amazing tapas restaurant, and a new favourite for us. We visited on a Sunday evening and the place was full which says a lot about it. The decor and vibe is also a standout factor The menu may seem somewhat limited however there is enough to share amongst a small group of diners. The quality of what is available was absolutely stunning and very enjoyable, especially the olives & lamb parcels. There is a great selection of wines to compliment your meal Parking is street parking around the area which we found easily enough near by.

Best tapas we've had by far. The whole place felt really authentic and the service was excellent. The value was also excellent. We've ordered far less and paid far more for worse food in other tapas places in Manchester/Greater Manchester. The calamari and the morcilla were standout dishes. The papas bravas were extremely interesting as they came with a meaty gravy rather than the more expected tomato sauce, if anything better!

We stepped out of the torrential Manchester rain and into a cosy Spanish bar. We could have been in Madrid. Small, noisy and perfectly formed in the fancy end of Chorlton cum Hardy. The service was friendly and efficient. The food was exceptional - way better than the typical tapas fare served up in most places. Think, pork and caramelised onions in an almond sauce - or, beef rib. Rustic bread with an delicious / almost creamy tomato sauce - lamb shoulder ‘Saquitos’ with a reduced Tempranillo sauce. I had been curious about this place for quite some time, having received positive feedback from those around me. I finally had the opportunity to visit, and from the moment I stepped inside, it was clear that the atmosphere was one of its strongest aspects. The fusion of traditional elements with a modern touch has created a unique and inviting setting. The attention to detail in the décor, the choice of materials, and the overall ambience make for an enjoyable dining experience. Moving on to the service, despite the restaurant being quite busy, I was impressed by how efficiently everything was managed. It is evident that the menu has been carefully designed to accommodate quick service. Dishes that require lengthy preparation times, such as paella, have been omitted, likely to maintain a steady workflow in the kitchen. While this approach ensures smooth and prompt service, it does somewhat limit the variety of options available.
