Del Popolo is known for its excellent Neapolitan-style wood-fired pizza with fresh ingredients and a chewy, slightly charred crust. The Salame Piccante and potato pizza are highly recommended. The back patio offers a quieter, delightful atmosphere.

Avis sur Del Popolo Alameda
Had an excellent time, pizza was wonderful and crispy, and the small plates were lovely. Make a reservation! Even on a weeknight folks had long waits.
Beautiful place and the patio is good too. They also provide blankets in the winter for the patio tables. Loved the pizzas
5 stars across the board! we had a reservation for Saturday night and they were quite busy so there was a bit of a wait but our server Ian was awesome and gave us complementary drinks while we waited to make up for it. Once inside I tried the vegan marinara pizza (fantastic!) and they actually had vegan cheese you could add on which was delicious! I also added mushrooms, bell peppers and onions. The focaccia was also vegan and delicious too. We got seated inside but originally had a reservation for one of the patio areas which actually close at 830 so best to check with the restaurant on the reservation time if you want to sit outside. Ian was very helpful and attentive the whole time and gave us a quick tour of the patio too! There is a covered patio and an outdoor uncovered patio. Will be back for sure. The vibe is perfect for a group or date night.
I’ve had pizza all over the world. My favorites are simple fresh ingredients no processed food fresh made dough sauce. Simple is better. The crust is chewy and they leave some char on it. Everything was really special and I could see the work.
The patio is delightful even when cold outside. We loved sitting back there, it was a little quieter there also. The pizza with potato is to die for, super soft crust, yet a crunch bottom. Perfect for a date or an anytime you're hungry for pizza dinner.
THE BEST WOOD FIRE PIZZA I’VE EVER HAD! Hats off to the guys stretching the dough bc it’s not chewy at all even to the last bite. I got the pepperoni and the tomato sauce was exquisite. I also added red onions which gave me a one way ticket to flavor town. Don’t hesitate to come here as the staff (shout out to Jordan) is also super friendly!
I just had the best pizza ever! Homemade sausage pizza was killer! The crust was crispy and chewy and so delicious. The flavors absolutely melted in my mouth. The red wine was amazing! The staff and atmosphere superb. Definitely a go to place in San Francisco's Nob Hill neighborhood. July 18, 2025 update: my last visit to San Francisco was SIX years ago! Pleased to see this beautiful restaurant still around. Food, drinks, atmosphere and serve still the best!
Though my Del Popolo experience was a grab-and-go affair, the vibrant vibe was evident. But oh, that pizza! First, the takeout packaging sparked a little joy and my Salame Piccante-beautiful simplicity. Great flavors with a spicy little kick that sang on the palate. And that dough? Simply divine. The asparagus dish is already bookmarked for my return. Next to the Petit Auberge where I am staying this week, the siren call of another Del Popolo order is strong, despite San Francisco's tempting culinary landscape. Seriously, seek this place out!
Phenomenal Neapolitan style pizza and all around one of the best pizza spots in San Francisco. With appetizers that are just as creative and delicious as the pizza! We had our post-City Hall wedding reception here (reserved the whole restaurant) and it was a flawless, seamless experience from beginning to end. Laurent the manager was so easy to work with and so accommodating. He was always quick to respond and I had peace of mind working with him. The staff at Del Popolo are wonderful and the service was excellent. They set up the space even more beautifully than I imagined, and coordinated without any issues with our florist. They were one of the only restaurants I met with who not only didn't push alcohol as a requirement (or a cost even if we didn't want it) but also were knowledgeable about non-alcoholic wines and beverages. In fact, Laurent's choices were so good we got a few extra bottles to take home. I highly recommend Del Popolo not only for excellent food any night but also for special events. Excellent pizza, dough was just perfect and the toppings were tasty and plentiful. I could have used a bit more pepper and mozzarella, but it wasn't needed. Overall really happy with the quality of the food, I just wish I could have had a bit more. I also ordered the cheesecake and it was really nice to just have a classic cheesecake and it was refreshing and tasty. The strawberry compote was a nice addition, but I could have used more of that. My main complaint is that the price was slightly higher than expected. After tax and tips, we spent 55 dollars for a pizza, 1 soda and 1 piece of dessert.
Disappointed. Dough was unfortunatly underfermented and underproofed - so it lacked flavour and had a bad thick and doughy texture. The pizza had a good char from the woodfire oven and the tomato sauce + cheese was decent. However it was probably the most expensive pizza I have ever had anywhere im the world, but the quality and craftmanship didn't justify its price point at all. Also as an international traveler I must point out that the tipping system here in the USA confuses me alot. I read from many sources on the internet you are supposed to tip 20 %, so thats what I did herr. But then when you go to different restaurants/bars, you are "suggested" to tip continously varying percentages or amounts based on how many taxes or other fees they decide include in the bill. It is very confusing.
Solid pizza + wine bar near the SF Masonic. Came with a friend around 5:30 p.m. on a Thursday. I recommend making reservations, as they fill up quickly, even on weeknights! The weather was beautiful, so we snagged a table in their garden patio. We ordered meatballs and the shishito peppers to start, and corn pizza to share. For drinks, my friend ordered a glass of their Vouvray Chenin Blanc, while I took advantage of their non-alcoholic options and tried an NA Negroni and a glass of their NA Riesling. The wines (both regular and NA) were top-tier, especially the Riesling which paired perfectly with the pizza. However, I could pass on the NA Negroni next time. While it was beautiful to look at, it lacked flavor and was too sweet for my taste. The meatballs were surprisingly amazing. They had a rich, savory flavor and were definitely worthy of a repeat order. The pizza crust had a nice chewy char, but the jalapeno and corn flavor combination was a bit boring. The sweetness from the corn felt flat, almost like canned kernels sprinkled on top after the pizza was baked. Perhaps charring the corn beforehand would elevate the flavors here? Overall, Del Popolo is a solid dinner spot if you're already in the neighborhood, but I wouldn't go out of my way for a visit. If you go, enjoy the wine selection and those meatballs!
Ordered the sausage pizza to go. It was so soaked in water I had to use 3 napkins to sop it up just to make it edible. The flavors were good but come on, having that much water destroys the crust and experience. The ambiance inside is really great, but this isn’t the place to go for good pizza.
We were really excited to try Del Popolo, but it turned out to be a huge disappointment. The restaurant was full, so we decided to order to-go — they didn’t have pepperoni, so we went with Margherita. Unfortunately, it was the worst pizza I’ve ever had. The dough was extremely sour, and the sauce was so salty it overpowered everything. I rarely write bad reviews and usually enjoy almost any pizza, but this was a complete miss. Sadly, it felt like a total waste of money.
