Tomiño Taberna Gallega is a standout spot for authentic Spanish tapas. The dishes are flavorful and well-made, capturing the feel of a true Galician taberna. Their drink selection is excellent, with great cocktails, Spanish wines, vermouth, and beers. The staff is friendly and easygoing, especially at the bar, where the service feels warm and genuine. A great place to relax, snack, and enjoy a bit of Spain.
Cozy and authentic spot with fresh seafood, great tapas, and a warm, welcoming atmosphere. Perfect for a relaxed meal and a good cocktail, wine or beer.
This restaurant is probably the best Spanish food I have had in the US. Every tapas dish was full of flavor. The squid rice was especially amazing and really brought out the sweet seafood taste. The servers were very responsible. They did not just come by to check on the food like in many other restaurants. They actually paid attention to our eating pace and coordinated well with the kitchen on when dishes came out. Compared to servers who are just friendly and smiling, these staff were much more professional. This kind of service made me willing to leave a higher tip. The only small downside was that there was a company event on the same day. The restaurant was very noisy and crowded. Even though I had a reservation, we were still affected by other guests. Luckily, the food and service were excellent. Otherwise, the dining environment would need some improvement.
Tomiño Taberna Gallega is absolutely amazing! The beer (Estrella Galicia 1906 Reserva Especial) was so 👍 good — crisp, smooth, and perfectly poured. A must-have if you visit! I also had the fried squid, and it was hands down the best I’ve ever had — perfectly crispy, tender inside, and topped with a flavorful green sauce that made it unforgettable. Pairing it with the fresh bread on the side was perfect. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, and the service made the experience even better. Highly recommend this spot for anyone looking for authentic Spanish flavors in NYC. I’ll definitely be coming back!
We were at the Feast of San Gennaro and needed a break, when we stumbled onto Tomino, a lovely "taverna Gallega" on Grand St. opposite Ferrara's. A beautiful cozy interior with a bar near the entrance, and Fernando concocted some delicious cocktails for us. Our go-tos are margaritas and Old Fashioneds, and both were <chef's kiss> so good! Photos are below. We stayed for two drinks each and we promised to come back for their tapas and dinner menu. Everything sounded wonderful so this is definitely going to be worth a return visit for food (as well as more cocktails!)
We came here for a late lunch. Able to get a table without having a reservation. The food was delicious we had olives, the peppers, octopus, tortilla (runny eggs),croquettes, and the scallops. Everything was perfectly cooked. I highly recommend wine drinks and beer selection. Also good. There’s a gluten-free beer option and it would be easy to make a meal gluten-free here.
The cheese/mushroom croquettes were nice and crisp which blended well with the sauce. The octopus was quite plump, but the sauce under was a bit oily for my liking. The unexpected best dish was the squid over black rice. I very much enjoyed the Spanish seasoning while not being overly heavy. The lobster rice was a close second. I was worried that the soup with fish would be too much, but it quickly dissipated. I did not like the pork shoulder with what seemed like potato - it was a clear step down compared to the rest of the plates, not to mention overly heavy
Overall, the food is good, especially the octopus—it’s probably the best dish! We came here for the lobster hot pot, but it was just okay. The lobster was overcooked, and while the fish was decent, the portion was huge. Even with a group of four and four small dishes, we couldn’t finish it. The dessert follows a New American style—good, but not particularly impressive.
It was a wonderful spot between the hustle and bustle of Chinatown and Little Italy. The restaurant was tastefully decorated and comfortable, and the service was lovely. The food was solid. Standouts were the croquetas (although ridiculously small), tortilla and almond cake for dessert. I would return for these three things. The rest of the order was delicious...solid. the ribs though were all bone, super light on meat. All in all, a lovely evening and I would definitely return.
This a bit of a mixed review. The good: drinks, service and ambiance Food was hit or miss. The pulpo was tender, though felt a bit slimy for my wife. The rice with squid ink was full of flavour, but squid super chewy, but very good nonetheless. The empanada was nice, smoky and pastry crispy. The Croquetas were freshly fried, good but not great. The Jamon was hard to find in the Croquetas, and Jamon flavour was imperceptible. Not bad, just had a ton better. The biggest disappointment was the Jamon Iberico de Bellota 5 Jota. Normally, melt in your mouth goodness! This wasn’t. Never mind that it was cut too thick, but the vast majority of the pieces that were cut were 1. Dry and rubbery, 2. RANCID. The white fatty part of the Jamon was yellow and dry, the meaty part leathery chewy, and likely the result of inexperienced carver or bad storage conditions for the Jamon. Either way, super disappointing. It was inedible. We paid and walked out.
3,5/5 Not the greatest food but a nice busy place, service is good. Everything we had was good but would not particularly come back for more. Best bite for me tonight, the pulpo. It was tender and I liked it with chorizo. The wine by the glass I had (Rioja reserve) did not feel like the best quality either. Would probably recommend tap beer/cider. The room feels like a mix of modern and wood.
I saw the seafood platter online and it looked absolutely mouth watering, so I went the very next day. Big mistake. The shrimp were mushy, which already tells you the seafood wasn’t fresh. The scallops were way too salty, drowned in olive oil to the point where all the natural flavor was gone. The cigala was relatively fresh but tasted like nothing. In short, it is a feast for the camera, not for the taste buds. That said, the rest of the dishes were actually decent. The potato and egg mash was silky smooth. The lamb chops were perfectly seared, though I wasn’t a fan of that brown sauce. The pork chop had a lovely creamy sauce that worked really well. The interior was nice enough, cozy but not too fancy. Still, I would probably hesitate before going back again
I have been so excited to try this restaurant and to be honest, I was disappointed. I spent my summers going to Galicia since I was a kid and was looking for a taste of Galicia. Tomiño fell short. The tortilla and croquetas were the only two food items that hit the mark. The empanadas de atún were overly salty(which was a recurring theme throughout the meal) and the main ingredients weren’t given the chance to shine. If anything they tasted more like chorizo than atún. The churrasco with chimichurri was dry, and the chimichurri lacked freshness or the bold flavors classically associated with the sauce. The zamburiñas and plancha board with langostinos and prawns were ok, but they were lathered with a green sauce that was essentially pure salt. The freshness and sweetness of the seafood did not come through. The mushrooms with grapes were a strange combination and the grapes were unnecessary. The arroz caldoso was a bit of a brighter spot in the meal but again lacked those classic Spanish flavors and the seafood flavor did not impart on the rice. The lobster was the best out of the seafood we ate however and was sweet and well cooked. The filloas were a waste of time. The ice cream they came with quite literally tasted like nothing and just served to cool the palate. You can go get crepes anywhere else that will be better . But overall the food, was just fine. For the cost of the meal, I expected better, and like in most Spanish cooking, I expected the simplicity of the ingredients to shine through more. However, the most annoying part of the dinner was that we were being rushed through the meal. We learned it was because they turn the main dining room into a dancing area at night. I walked to the bathroom and before I returned, a staff member demanded we pay before I even got back from the bathroom. My friends had to get my credit card from my bag in my absence because of how insistent they were on us paying quickly and moving out. It made the tail end of the meal very displeasing. I was eating lobster when my plate and utensils were taken away. Horrible service and a true insult to Galician hospitality. The music they played wasn’t even that good. Outside of getting drinks, I don’t think I would return to tomiño.
The food was outstanding, but the service was poor. My friend and I felt unwelcome from the moment we arrived. There was no greeting, no explanation of the menu, and no follow-up throughout our meal. Food runners made us feel rushed, and when we asked for a moment to decide on dessert, our server bluntly told us, “I need this table in 15 minutes.” I don’t think a 20%+ tip suggestion is justifiable when customers are only deemed as ATMs.
To be clear the rating was based on disbelief on an additional charge for a birthday that should have been perfect but kinda ruined by something so disappointing, given we spent like almost $800. The food was very good, although we order two tomahawk which was too salty, the rest, especially the appetizers were very good. Service was good and atmosphere and decor was nice. We were celebrating my wife's birthday which we brought a cake spent close to 800 on the full meal and they didnt even waive a cake fee of $2.50 per person. Outside of that they didn't even offer a birthday treat, which most restaurants would have done so. It wasn't the cost of the $17.50 charge for a cake fee, but very disappointed in what would have been a excellent birthday celebration. Its a pity, as we love being patrons to restaurants that have good cuisines and normally go back.
They sat me at a dirty table, I had to asked for it to be cleaned, then I ordered a dry wine but the waiter had no idea about wines, the croquettes were very good, the 5j ham is very good, I ordered a chrrasco but they gave me bones with a bit of meat, I didn't like the octopus, it wasn't for me, the service was very slow I couldn't even order another glass of wine.
