Great value restaurant with a huge menu and big portions. The food is delicious and comes out quickly but still hot and fresh. The portion sizes are really good for a fair price. Definitely great for family style with something for everyone. They have a large private dining room too, and the staff are nonchalant and friendly.

Our regular stop for good Hang-zhau Chinese food. Their weekday lunch specials are a great deal. However, keep in mind it’s regular price on US and Chinese holidays (if it lands on weekdays). There are so many good dishes that we rotate through on our visits. It’s a good place to eat dine out for two or even better for larger parties, where you can sample a larger variety eating family style.

Since I live in San Gabriel Valley, and I'm Taiwanese, I'm very picky about Chinese food, and Chang's Garden has the BEST Chinese food in all of San Gabriel Valley. The ambiance here is very good, it's not too loud. I added the dishes we had in photos. The fish was spicy, but not too spicy (please don't eat the chili peppers in there!) I loved the sweet lotus root, it's so hard to find in SGV, and I've had it at one other place and it wasn't as good as Chang's Garden version of it. The sweet lotus dessert isn't easy to make. The jellyfish was very refreshing during the summer weather.

Great find for a Chinese Shanghai style food. Visible restaurant from traffic. Super friendly staff. Food came out on time and the taste is delicious, no even too salty. Good selection of Shanghai cuisine dishes and easy to read menu. Spacious and plenty of parking. Recommend to try with your friends and family.

Really great food if you are looking for non spicy dishes, there Hangzhou-Shanghai style dishes are really great. We really like the Spare Ribs Shanghai style, House Special Vegetarian Goose, and those we didn’t order also look delicious. And waitress are very nice too. Parking is easy.

Located inside a plaza with plenty of free self parking. The restaurant is clean and tidy. Service is probably one of the best in the San Gabriel valley. Our group was seated inthe private room in the back. It was a bit cold with AC blowing. We asked them to turn it down and they did promptly. The waiter and staff were very attentive. They made recommendations and took our order. The food came out quickly. It was hot and fresh. Some of the dishes were excellent, like the fish and chicken. Others were mediocre, in my opinion. Prices are very reasonable. I can't emphasize enough how great the staff is. Very polite and friendly. Would consider returning and trying other items on their menu.

This is a really nice place. Honestly, their menu has a bit of everything from a lot of different parts of China, even though they call themselves a 杭州(Hangzhou) restaurant, but that's OK. You can tell they have some things that are in line with the region, so it's much harder for an outsider like me to discern what dishes actually local to Hangzhou, and what belongs to other places nearby. Regardless, it's not bad. There were honestly a lot of dishes I wanted to try, but considering it was my first time here, we had to get what we know first to compare, but I'd definitely come back to try the other items on their menu! I like how whenever they make the 醪糟湯圓, they wait until they see you're almost done to ask if they should start making it, so you know it's fresh.

First time to try this restaurant. Drunken Chicken and Shanghai Cold Pork Slices as appetizers give us a good start. Then we ordered Shrimp scrambled egg, Shanghai little ribs, Cumin fried lamb, Chives Pork Stir fry, Green Onion Fried Pancake, Soup dumplings, Chang's beef rolls, Pork & Chicken cabbage dumplings. I will grade them B+ overall. Of course, a Red Bean Pancake as our dessert. We had great time and enjoyed the good food.

Food/Taste/Flavor: 4/5 - the sweet and sour soup was pretty sour but some in our party really enjoyed it. Eggplant Szechwan Style had a small kick was the eggplant was soft and cooked well but a bit too much sugar may have been added during the cooking. Pork Ball Brown Sauce was mediocre and don't have much flavor. Shrimp Pineapple was a bit odd... the shrimp was fried well but for some reason the mayo was a bit watery so there was a small puddle left at the bottom of the dish. The House Special Intestines was delicious and our favorite dish! Fish in Hot Bean Sauce: the fish itself had no flavor other than the heavy seasoning on top. Ambience: 5/5 - clean and bright store Service: 5/5 - really attentive and very helpful/friendly Value for price: 5/5 - lunch price was competitive and the food was pretty good

We have been coming here for years and had never done a review. I am surprised that I haven’t done so. We just love their shanghai/Hangzhou cuisines. They make the foods authentically Shanghai style. So for those of shanghai cuisine fans, I highly recommend trying their imitation of Goose meat with tofu and bamboo shoots. The three cup chicken is excellent. The chicken in a clay pot permeates delicious flavor. Another dish worth trying is their pan fried Shanghai style rice cake. This is a must order dish. If you like xiao long Bao, this restaurant has good ones and their fried dumplings(生煎包)is very juicy and flavorful. But please avoid their fried bean noodle. It was too sweet when we ordered it on Saturday. This didn’t taste like the famed Beijing style noodle. Other then that, all other food seemed to be very good. Service was not bad either. The food came out very quickly and the waitresses were very responsive and friendly.

Very good food and service for the price. Worth of driving 10km each way. My son was in Caltech for his Ph.D. program. I was in Pasadena several times a year as long as I have business trip in west coast to meet my son. Everytime we are here always to enjoy the food. We should have been to this restaurant over 20 times.

Officially good authentic Chinese food. Had the beef noodle soup, combination fried rice, kung pao chicken, seaweed fish, and the fried onion cake. Everything was great except the onion cake, was a little on the overcook side but it wouldn't stop me from not coming back. Everything was very tasty and very authentic. There was a lot of people in there eating during the time I got my takeout and the family was very impressed and wanted to come back

There are many different dishes but some are ok. Their Kung pao chicken is not what I expected. Their hot and sour soup needs more seasoning. Other dishes were OK and prices are reasonable.

I wanted so badly to love the food here. My sister and mom used to frequent Chang’s years ago and raved about them, so I excitedly ordered four dishes for takeout: tong po rou, seaweed fish fries, Hunan tofu (my sister’s “favorite version of Hunan tofu she’s ever tasted”, and doban li yu. Welp, besides the seaweed fish fries which were right on point (and stayed crispy for two hours), everything was underwhelming. It feels like they’re following in Taiwan’s footsteps in terms of using less salt and adding more sugar. A little tangent before I get into the dishes: whyyyy, oh why do the Taiwanese revere desserts that are “not too sweet”, yet throw massive amounts of sugar into their savory dishes?? I noticed this trend in South Korea too. Boggles the mind. Back to our regularly-scheduled programming: The li yu (fish) had almost no doban taste. I searched and searched and came up empty. I mean, the sauce certainly LOOKED like it would have doban sauce in it, but all I could taste was sugar and the texture of corn starch. So what I did was scrape off and dump out as much of the sauce as I could to rid the dish of sweetness, and added doban sauce at home. Like 3 heaping spoonfuls. The tong po rou was not only not savory enough, it also just lacked any depth of flavor. Because I don’t pretend to be a food critic (I just want yummy food), every time I read some layman’s review in which they mention “depth of flavor”, I cringe. Yet in this case, I’m willingly becoming my own worst enemy as I have to use the phrase bc I know no other way to encapsulate the flavor profile (or the lack thereof of any). For $28.99, I wasn’t a happy camper. So of course I put THAT on the stove too. Added dark soy sauce and one star anise bc I wasn’t about to throw $28.99 down the tube. Mind you, I’m *really* not a good cook, hence I order out a lot. So for me to “improve” upon a dish is almost a laughable idea. Hunan tofu: again lacked flavor and salt. Like how is that even possible when it’s got fermented black beans in it?? Again, boggles the mind. Having had no fermented black beans on hand, I just Lao Gan Ma fried crispy chili oil, and voilá — it became a…3 out of 5. All this to say, I’ve not once had to re-season 75% of the dishes I got from a restaurant until this experience. Sadly, I won’t be returning. P.S. I spent around $112 for four dishes. Yeah…. Service was kind and efficient both in my ordering and cashing out experiences.

We ordered what seemed to be pretty popular on their ig posts. Duck, 3 flavor crispy noodles, and my bf wanted moo shu pork (not pictured) It was my first time trying duck it had good flavor but way too many tiny bones so bc of the inconvenience of that I would never order again. Noodles were good had kind of like a gravy sauce very rich. Good but not great. Moo shu pork was very disappointing. Very bland. Hard to eat. And the tortilla that our server wrapped them in really grossed me out. Our total was approximately $85 Sorry but I unfollowed. Won't return.
