It’s a shame that there are only 3 locations in the fourth largest city in the USA. They make some damn good fish!

I saw some negative reviews but my experience was great. The staff was great, the food was hot and prepared quick. I would recommend to others🙂

I have never been to this captain d's but their food was really good. I got a 2 Pc catfish and they were juicy and the breading was not soggy. It was soft and seasoned really well. It honestly shocked me that it taste that good because I was expecting it to be Mediocre. Yeah the place is losing some paint on the walls but it's just a very old building that needs some TLC. The kitchen is very clean cause it needs to be and the prices are cheap for the meals. I would recommend this place to anyone who isn't picky on the way a building looks. 🙂

The food was really good. Not greasy like another place we all probably know. The Mac and cheese was by far the best I've ever had.

Plenty of parking. The restroom was clean. There was no line to order. The price for food was very reasonable. The drinks are expensive. You place your order at the counter and pick up your order at the counter

I have not been in a long while. Dined in and it was real low key. Decent not dirty at all. You can tell that they are cutting cost but in the right places, not on their food quality.

This was our 1st time visiting. We were actually happy with food taste. I got the fish sandwich which was very good! We also got the seafood platter which was also plenty of food for us. 2 things that I think can be worked on is the stuffed crabs... they were tasty but didn't taste fresh. Lasty we have a big family, I didn't enjoy the family bundles available. I believe that should be relooked at and come up with something better than the 2 selected.

I did drive thru because it was busy inside. It took a little bit, but we had no mistakes on the order. One note to add. They started closing the dining room at 8pm. Yeah, 'rona sacrifices.

The pictures show filets, but what you actually get when you order the catfish filets are chunks or strips. I want my meal to look like the picture. Even the battered fish pieces are smaller. It is really overpriced, and they should treat customers better. The food is good but overvalued.

Okay, I like leaving reviews, it's what I do... so I'll keep it honest, as always. Mac is wack. It taste like a wanna be a kraft brand but below the belt for sure. The baked potato was a bit on the hard side, no cheese, and whoever plated my food, had the wacky mac all over my fish, my fries, it was just thrown it felt but the fish was good, the hush puppies were OK but definitely not Long John Silvers if you're comparing. The lobster rolls were SUPER good! Jalpeno bombers, SUPER good! Don't have coke products, they have pepsi. Kids meals include drink, regular entrees do not. The fries were actually good! The reviews were definitely conflicting but all in all, I'd come back. It was good!

I didn't realize Captain D's was like Long John Silver's. But that's where the similarity stops. Because Captain D's is much better. They use a better fish. They use a better fish getting her fries are definitely better. You don't get all this bad or and people like the Crunchies and stuff but I don't and they don't dump it into your stuff either. But you never tried them go do it.

OMG when I first saw they had fresh caught salmon meal I was interested, but pretty apprehensive... LET ME TELL YOU this was GOOD! The entire meal, FISH, rice, broccoli, bread, and coleslaw was fresh, flavorful, and the hot items were HOT...Also the larger young man at the window was polite friendly and helpful, the price was decent, and after I ate it It seemed cheap... So A+ Captain, I will defiantly be back and tell all my friends... MMM MMM!

It was pretty empty. The fish was spectacular, and the fried pickles were very good, every else was fine. I wouldn't mind going again just for the fish.

Quiet, relaxing atmosphere. Great service. It had been a while since I had eaten at a Captain Ds, but I'm glad we decided to pop in. The manager/owner was putting our order in and was humble enough to ask for help from the young lady working with him. If you haven't been in a while, stop by the Garth road location and enjoy!

ONLY time that I've been there and the food has been less than perfect. This time the fish was a tad underdone for me. It was very much edible and firm, just not as dark as it usually is. Plus I do like my fish more on the well done side to keep it from not being slimy feeling inside that beer batter. This time, it was very very close to being that way. The young lady with the pinkish/blueish (?) hair at the counter was perfection, was very friendly and helpful and fast with out order coming out. It's just fried food, so it's not rocket science, she definitely made the wait bearable with conversation instead of just standing around looking for something to make her appear busy. As most service workers have a tendency to do. She made sure we were taken care of.

Food is great, cooked up by a great staff. The building seems unmaintained and the bathrooms are pretty sad...and I'm being nice.

The food was absolutely delicious. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that the restaurant was hot inside. It was clean and neat the ceiling fans were on but I broke a sweat just sitting and eating. You expect a restaurant to be at least somewhat cool but it was really uncomfortable.

This is an honest review. The fish was pretty good. I love the batter they use on it and the extra crunchiest they throw in the box. They have the best mozzarella sticks and the rolls *chef’s kiss. The cashier was very polite and had great energy (Asia you were awesome). Most people complain about the interior. It is pretty dated. I’ve been eating here for almost 30 years. I would love to see it completely rebuilt. I have been here a few times in the past and the food was meh, but I always give it another chance and am rarely disappointed. I will definitely be back.

The last few times I went there lately the fish have been dry and the fries was not hot at all

I love a good fish sandwich, and their's is great. I really won't eat any other fast food fish sandwich. It's got two over sized pieces of cod, iceberg lettuce and tatar sauce. Simple and very good. They also have my favorite mac and cheese in fast food. The staff is always nice and quick. Thank you and have a blessed day!

It’s good on the go if you’re running through the drive-through to go home or if you’re not looking for an atmosphere just something good to eat it quick if you like fried fish and shrimp the deluxe platter is good choice. I recommend using the vinegar on your fish and they have packets of tartar sauce and cocktail sauce.

I have been going here for a couple of years, and the food was just okay. But, my last few vivists has been horrible. Food tasted old and the customer service is not great either. The price is good, but, that's about it. With not be going back. The last trip, I went through the drive thru and no one responded. Parked, went in, and there was the cashier, on her phone. I questioned, why wasn't the drive thru answered. They all looked like a deer in headlights, but didn't answer. That is last straw for me!!!

Fish was fresh, baked potatoe could have been better and hot. If you have left over food and need a box they will tell you they don't have none . They will give you a plate where all your food be mixed together now that's nasty. I need my food separated. Maybe it was my color. He was nice to everyone else that walked in the doors!

I have been a little disappointed on our last two visits. The fish portions have changed to small tube shaped and the overall plate looks smaller. Food is usually freshly cooked, young employees, always a bit on the warm side so its sometime too hot in the restaurant to eat. Otherwise not the worst place to eat.

I will go to Captain D’s once a week. The food is pretty good most of the time but the portions size are not as good as it was previously. You pay $2.00 for a extra pice of fish which is approximately 6 inches long and maybe 1 to 1 1/2 inches and a lot of that is batter. You get more on the appetizer shrimp and clams. But I keep going back because I like the food .

Sometimes on a busy shopping day the wife and I will stop by Captain D's and get one of their very large family platters. You get a ton of food for about $40 but recently, Captain D's has made a few changes to their menu, and now they have what is called classic and premium side dishes. The differences are french fries are free, but okra, you get charged $5.

Ordered the super sampler... 1. + Food was cooked thoroughly. 2. + Tasted good, not bad. 3. + The chicken was tenders style. 4. + Hush puppies were better than Long John's. 5. Shrimp tasted good but grocery store styled, flat and smaller than a half dollar coin. 6. Okra was good, better than Church's chicken's. 7 - Cole slaw, shoulda passed on it. 8 - Fish tasted ok but batter was mushy in the interior. Not knocking it but probably would try somewhere else next time.

Hardly a soul in the place and the restaurant was pretty dirty. As I was walking to the counter, the only cashier was sitting on his phone and had to mentally register my presence and seemed less than enthused. I don't expect people to be chipper and happy all the time, but I dont expect to be looked at like the biggest inconvenience of you day. The quality of the food was poor and the service was not bad but wasn't much better. I will still eat and enjoy captain d's, just not at this location.

The cashier seemed a little perturbed that I only ordered a drink and two 2 pieces of fish. I was charged accordingly but when I got home only half of what I paid for was there. I tried calling. No one answered. I tried emailing but Google says it's not a valid email. (I got it from one of the answers to Google reviews) . How do I resolve this!

This was my first time back in about 12 years.. The food is exactly how I remember it as a kid but that's about it. At least at this location they've made everything bare bones. 2 people on staff that I could tell and the food was decent but not great. The fish was cooked perfectly, served hot, and everything fried tasted good. But the green beans were not seasoned and the corn on the cob was dry and tacky when you chew it. There's spiderwebs in the booths, the tile floor in the dining room needs stripped and a good cleaning, and they need to replace the ceiling. It doesn't look like anything has been updated since I was a kid or since 12 years ago when I last ate here. I can't say for certain the condition of the kitchen, but the bathroom was at least decently clean although out of paper towels to dry our hands with and the employees were friendly. I'd hate to see Captain D's close the rest of their locations, but YEESH! they need to invest a little bit into themselves and their menu and take pride in what they have to offer.

Edit*** we dined in the other night. The 2 workers were friendly but our food took forever, they forgot an item and we had to wait forever for that. I'm not a germaphobe or anything but this is one of the filthiest restaurants I've ever been in and in need of some major maintenance. If the front looks this funky how dirty is the back? See pics. We waited forever for our food. I had to ask for our drinks. I had to ask for our dipping sauce because they forgot to put it in the bag. Girl at drive through window wasn't very friendly maybe she was having a rough day.

I love Captin D's, well I use to love it. I have been in over 15 years. Growing up it was amazing. Now you cant tell if its open. The prices is very high. I didn't go in so I don't know what it looks like inside. I ordered a 2 piece catfish combo. I choose fries for the sides. There was hardly any fries. The fish was delicious. It didn't come with a drink so I ordered a large coke, that was over 3.50! I believe i spent 20 for just myself. There wasn't anyone in line when I pulled up. When I pulled up to order they told me to hold please. Why? There was nobody in line and only 1 car in the parking lot. I hope there was more than 1 person working. The catfish was good, give me more fries and throw in a drink with the combo please. Probably won't go back. That sucks, but I think I'd rather drive to Pasadena and go to long john silvers. Food is good and not so expensive. I wish yall the best.

Sitting here having lunch the food reminded me of Long John Silvers, a comforting memory from my childhood. As I read the previous reviews I started looking around and I did notice the restaurant is in major need of a good cleaning and remodel. The window ledges are filthy and the paint is peeling. I had to kill a small spider that was hovering over my head. I noticed the manager was trying to repair the sauce container while we were there and when she removed the bag of sauce it looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in some time, the ceiling has a lot of water damage or whatever. Overall, The service was good, food was good but they really need to invest time into taking care of the restaurant.

The bread was burnt and the sandwich was pretty much just bread and fish. The fries were old. I completely wasted my money. Should have taken the first warning when I tried to order through a delivery service a few weeks before and the order was cancelled after trying to reach them for over an hour. Won’t happen again

Honestly the food was not good at all. They charge extra for “premium corn on the cob” which was nothing special. The corn literally tasted like it was bathed in nasty water. The shrimp skewers weren’t even warm. Definitely won’t be back.

We have always liked the food, however on May 4, 2022, I stopped to pick up food on my way home from work, since it was our 15th anniversary, I splurged and order 2 cheese cakes, $7.18 worth. When I arrived home, they were not in the bag. I called the phone number and no answer, it was 748pm, they close at 8pm. I sent a message to the "contact us", as of today, I have yet to receive a response. I will not patronize a company that does not respond. My rating for this restraunt dropped a couple of stars!

The restaurant its self had a remodel not too long ago, but the place is gross inside. There is an awful smell in the bathroom area, and it was so slippery and sticky in there. The faucet has a build up of something all over it and looks disgusting. The food wasn't at all appealing nor taste good on the day I visited.

Our family has enjoyed many plentiful meals here since 2002. With changing times, the quality has diminished. What happened to the hearty pieces of battered fish. It's now just a strip. Oh well, the thrill is gone. That was my last visit.

I pulled into the parking lot of Captain D's on Garth Rd at 8:45pm and the young man inside turned off all the lights and locked the doors so I had to go thru the drive thru windon. He tells me, that they closed at 8:45pm. So I couldn't order any food. On your website says close at 9:00.

So I recently did a doordash order at this location. I work in food service industry so I understand that there's the rish of not having time for a meal break however when I came into the restaurant I observed an employee I'm the back handling food/food containers while eating candy/lollipop. I get she probably hasn't had time for a meal break but it becomes a safety issue when you're eating and handling customers food. Apart from this they also had my order wrong which they fixed for the most part. It was still wrong but I was somewhat upset about the employee eating over customers food that I didn't want to be here a second longer. So here I am eating an order that was done wrong possibly has someone's spit in it and drinking a half filled drink cause you guys don't fill the cups up all the way

My order was 35 for 2 plates (insane) considering the quality of the food. I ordered 2 deluxe meals. The rice was rubbery, the shrimp dryer than the Sahara dessert. The only thing that saved my food was the fish 🐟.

Me and my family went through the drive thru. The customer service was great and did take a little bit longer than usual. The fries, butterfly & popcorn shrimp were way over cooked. The fries and green beans had no seasoning no flavor. The fried pickles were way undercooked not crunchy at all. The hush puppies were probably the best part. These are all easy fixes I hope to see more improvement for next time!

835pm takeout only dining room closed. If you want to roll out of work at 9pm sharp then close at 8 or 730. Your a retail business that's dependent on customer satisfaction not a gov entity that simply burns the clock until quitting time. And the we are out of this and out of that is gonna turn into we are out of business if ya don't get it resolved at least the food was decent only reason patronize business. Take a lesson from raising canes or chic fila, the is pricey for fast food but the service is excellent

Fish and shrimp tasty but overcooked; breading rock-like. Fries cooked okay, but mostly luke warm, under heat lamp too long, I think. Clean dining area and service good.

It's not good. It is technically edible, but you'll be wishing you were at ljs the whole time. The food desperately needs to be reevaluated by the company. The fish is O.K. if it is properly breaded, and it has that familiar fried fish taste from ljs. The problem is that sometimes the breading to fish ratio is as much as 3 to 1. That's 3 times the volume of breading than fish.. it's supposed to cover the fish, not encapsulate it like a fossil in dirt. When I got the fish like that I couldn't eat it. The hush-puppies and tartar sauce are pretty good, the rest of the sides do not deserve positive remarks. Come on guys you're the only fast food fish place in this area of BAYTOWN for like 15 miles except restaurants and this is the standard you want to set? You could have people around the corner lined up for good fried fish here because there's no one else, but your parking lot is going to stay bare if you keep doing what your doing. Is this place really profitable?

The likelihood that I will ever go back is not very high. The prices are too high and the quality of the food wasn't that great. I got an order of the funnel cake fries and there wasn't even that many in the box and they barely had any powdered sugar. The fried shrimp and chicken were both really dry. A few of the fried shrimp actually made me throw up shortly after eating. I can definitely see why I haven't seen very many of these in my life.

This place needs a major makeover. The food was room temperature and not great. The girls that worked the counter was friendly but you could tell this was not where they wanted to be. The condiments were greasy and the ketchup and condiment container was old. It kept the condiments cool but not cold. The place had a old rundown feel and not in a good way.

The service was great from the young lady working the front counter. Aside from that Captain D's needs a serious makeover. I came around lunch when the entire street block was packed at every restaurant. Now I see why this place wasn't busy. No lie, my salmon and rice was overcooked. The green beans were over cooked and had zero flavor. The breadstick and fries was okay. Honestly the food was terrible, wasted my time and money.

There is mold ALL over the window shades....dead bugs everywhere including hanging from the walls...clams were way over cooked and they forgot the shrimp on the seafood sampler...never checked on us never asked if anything was okay ....bad service filthy restaurant

Discovered that "Fish & Fries Combo" doesn't include fries - if you order a side. We had these to go, without drinks, so paid over the odds for some fish, hush puppies and cole slaw. Will learn from this - and go elsewhere. Was empty when I bought the food, and only a couple of people there when I went back. That, in itself, says something. Annoyingly, the 2 pc fish which comes with 2 sides cost less - but of course they said nothing on that.

first time trying, last time eating. this salmon is so dry and it had no flavor at all. all the seasoning you see on it is what i added from my own kitchen. they didn’t season the broccoli at all. not even a grain of salt. the mozzarella sticks are so skinny and just not good. i wouldn’t recommend it anyone.

The entire restaurant is filthy. Peeling paint on the walls and window sills from moisture. Beat up banged up tables and booths. The restroom is so bad I didn’t use it. Even the door to the restroom is nasty. They are just disgusting. No napkins anywhere, just a roll of paper towels that go in the bathroom dispenser that they have sitting out on the front counter. I guess that’s why the bathroom didn’t have paper towels? The malt vinegar bottles are disgusting. They are refilling them and never cleaning them. The serving trays are nasty. They use them for cutting boards in the kitchen. I’ve seen this before. I reported it to the health department a couple of years ago and they were replaced. Looks like they are doing it again. I said I wouldn’t come back when I was here a couple of years ago. I thought I’d give it another try. Needless to say, I won’t be back.

This place sucks first off they don’t answer the phone i’ve called like 20 times in a row . they don’t have an option through doordash to order any breadsticks then when you ask them to substitute something small for breadsticks they won’t even substitute it. my wife is pregnant now i gotta deal with her attitude cuz they won’t give us no breadsticks. how rude.

Poor customer service and small portions. When i when they screw up my order big time and when they finally got my order correct they gave me less portions and the bread was hard and the srimp was dark. Like when they dont change the oil and they wanna charge for tarter souce and plates. Please do not go here unless you wann have a bad dinnner experience. Employees look all mad and like thwy dont know nothing. When asked for the manager they just say whats wrong the manager is bussy he cant come.

For this being our first time here, we were not properly greeted like any other restaurant. They were not busy at all to where they can't acknowledge the customers as they come in. Really seemed like they had ghetto personalities. Did not bother having patience as we were looking at the menu, once asked a question they seemed bothered like we didn't know what we were ordering; I mean of course this was our first time there and to be treated this way smh. If I could rate it less than one star I would. It was my first time attending the restaurant and the cashiers were both rude. I couldn't ask any questions regarding food since they would just point at the menu and tell me it was all there. Both my husband and I are very dissatisfied with the service given. I would definitely not be coming back at all.

Bad customer service. Cashier not very friendly like she was having a bad day. She knocked over some of the drink cups by accident, the issue was she put them on the counter-not in the trash- then had an attitude when I mentioned not wanting my drinks from those cups. Won't go there anymore.

I usually don't have issues at this location when its just a quick pick up in the drive thru. However, on Saturday, January 22, 2022 I was going to start my shift as a lyft rideshare driver and wanted something quick to eat. I ordered one piece of fish and a large gumbo. I previously had the small gumbo and it was a little salty but tasty. I paid for my food and had to wait an extended period of time and then it was ready. I pulled away and tried the fish which was hot as usual. I opened the gumbo and i had the app on and i tasted it and it was ice cold. I dont know if it was frozen and they had to reheat it in the microwave but it was disgusting. I had a ride to pick up in pasadena so I could not go back to the drive thru. So i thought that i could call them since i was just there. NO ONE ANSWERED AFTER 3 CALLS. Horrible customer service and the fact that I spent $9.21 for a hot piece of fish is deplorable since the gumbo was ice cold. No one has money to waste, especially with time constraints since I drive all over the houston area. It would have been nice to know that they microwave this item and it was a waste.

I just had the worse experience ever at this location. The lady in the widow was so rude. She had a real nasty attitude. It started from me placing my order. When I get to the window my wife asked me to ask for bread instead of saying hush puppies. I was so agitated with her attitude I mispoke an said" can I get bread instead of hash browns. The employee said "all this food sitting here and u want us to go back and put bread In ur box. Her attitude was so nasty my wife said just tell her to give us our $ back. If u hate ur job quite. Horrible experience here tonight, the restaurant is filthy! They are out of sweet tea, they are out of lemons. The fries are dark brown and burnt looking and look like they've been cooked in OLD, OLD grease! I brought all of these matters to the manager's attention and she made no apologies and made no attempts to fix any of it. She just said "that's just how our food looks". Well I've been to plenty of other Captain D's and I've never seen it look like this.

Food took 25 minuets to be brought out. then was brought out in a to go bag after ordering to eat in. Food was burned, and some was cold and tasted like it was under a heat lamp for hours. I asked to speak to a manager and she was rude, unhelpful and made me sure never to come back to this location. All she told me was that the food was "cooked to order, and that its timed" and she tried to tell me the food took a while because they had "4 big orders before" despite more than one person who came in after getting their meals first. The cashiers are nice but the manager is rude and awful. Dont waste your time or money here unless you want cold food.

We ordered one fish plate and one fish and chicken plate. Both were the size of small kids' meals. We waited for the food to be prepared, and the fries were cold. The vegetables are literally steamed. I got three pieces of broccoli. This place is overpriced for what you get. We could have gone to the store and got everything for cheaper and would have been able to have leftovers. And the fish was pretty bland.

Save your hard earned money and go anywhere else but here. Everything I ordered tastes like it was fried yesterday and reheated in the microwave today. It's truly disgusting. The interior of the restaurant appears dirty and not well maintained. The staff was friendly and helpful though.

If I could do a 0 for atmosphere I would .. the food was gross & the store was dirty because it needs renovation not because it’s wasn’t cleaned ..

I simply ordered a giant fish sandwich and had a coupon for another one free-(it was also on my receipt)I got 2 chicken sandwiches and told them- they didn’t want to fix the problem and told me it was fish- I come here enough to know the difference but I won’t be back til there’s new management or til some one knows the difference between the two.

Captain D I was expecting good chicken with my fish but nope not today. This looks like is been either sitting all day or burned up in the atmosphere. Dry, crunchy and horrible.

Cashier did not greet me, and no smile! The food was not good at all. The fish was lukewarm the chicken was very dry and old. Did not look like the strips I usually get there. My 6 year old could not chew it. I got one spicy fish, it wasn’t spicy at all just weird looking. The only thing that looks like the display is the corn on the cob. SAD! This place has went down terribly. This is the 2 fish, 2 chicken meal??

Asked for the food to be freshly made, and got stale fish, and the fries were barely room temp, the soup was seeping through the container it was in from sitting a certain amount of time, and barely got any fries. Tried calling twice the night I got it, and they didn't answer. Came the next day with proof and was told I should've called and brought the food. Spent almost 30 dollars for a bunch of cold food 🤨

Very disappointed today as I went inside I began to order my food. Midway ordering I notice that the 3 employees working were NOT wearing mask's. I asked the guy behind the register if they were aware the there is a pandemic going on and if they practice safe guidelines. The guy caught an attitude with me and stated that they don't wear mask's at Captain D's. So I asked why not? He stated that they didn't need to. His comments reflect the views of managements poor training and lack of cleanliness. Very unprofessional. This is the location in Baytown.
