Vik's Chaat is a culinary gem, serving up incredible Indian cuisine. From their mouthwatering samosas to their flavorful chaat dishes, every bite is a burst of authentic flavors. With its vibrant atmosphere and delicious offerings, Vik's Chaat is a must-visit for any Indian food lover.
Very lively space. Are here with my dad a while back for lunch and we are indoors. It was on parents weekend and there was a lot of free parking. He got the chole bhature and I got the pav bhaji. The bhaji reminded me of the street food I've had in Mumbai. Entire experience can be likened to an Indian cafeteria. Very nice
Vik's Chat was one of the top results when I searched best Indian food in SF. even though the place was in Berkley I thought to give it a try. After reading some good and bad reviews I feel I needed to see what is good there. The place had a nice backyard where people can sit and eat their food. It is like a grocery store with a food corner. I was not that hungry so I just wanted to taste one thing from this place and chole bhature was something everyone said was really good here. I have never had a decent chole bhature since I have been here in the US so I didn't have high hopes for this place either. The place was rather clean and spacious. They have a token system where you pay and then your name is called for the food. I was seeing how the bhatura was made and it reminded me of how it is made in India . when my order was ready they called my name and I could see the bhatura all puffed up .it got me excited. honestly, this was the most delicious chole bhature i have ever had. price wise I would say it was a bit pricey considering you get one big bhatura . Overall I really enjoyed the food.
So authentic and cosy, felt transported to India. It was my first time here so I ordered butter chicken and it was INSANELY delicious, the best I’ve ever had thus far. A bit spicy, but in just the right amount. Coming back here with my mom soon to try their Pav Bhaji and Cholle Bhature.
Viks chaat is a great place to hang out with friends and have food. The food is great, the ambience is casual with many people from different walks of life. Their thali is best and filling for two persons.
I use to to Viks 16 Years ago, when it was small on the corner, so glad I found it again. Good had always been great. Try it if you like Indian food, It's the Best. My taste buds has been Satisfied today.
Grabbed takeout on the way to the Greek Theater and it was perfect for a picnic. I ordered online and the food was ready as soon as we arrived in < 15 min. Great flavor in every Chaat I ordered. It would be helpful if the online ordering provided a bit more information about the specific dishes as many that I ordered were quite similar and I needed a bit of help distinguishing what ingredients made up each dish. The portions were large and though the samosas smelled very fried in the car - they were perfectly done without too much oil. Hope to visit again and try some more dishes!
Good food! Fast! Lots of variety! Love the supermarket that's attached. Note, you can get the "big puffy thing" a la cart had i known that I might not have ordered it as a third meal set...or I might have because the food was good...but still good to know. Definitely pick out a few things from the desert case to try + get a chai for the road, it's delicious!
Just awesome!!! Awesome Indian food. Didn’t expect that. You must try Chole bhature. That’s the best I’ve had in a long time. I ordered 2 plates of it 😋 Pani Puri, Dahi puri, dosa (a little thin) but all are good. Aloo tikki chole was great too. Ras malai was also awesome. Don’t buy the White Peda, jus didn’t feel like peda at all. Some essence in it, gives a chemical taste and smell. While we were there we visited UC Berkeley too.
It is a Berkeley institution for authentic, flavorful, and diverse Indian street food (chaat, dosas, curries, etc.) served in a lively, cafeteria style setting. You can go wrong with their delicious snacks such as bhev puri, sev puri and pani puri. Forever popular chole bhatura, Weekend specials etc. It has an attached grocery store as well where you can buy frozen food made by Viks.
We had an amazing experience at this restaurant! Our order consisted of several dishes including the Cholle Bhature, Samosa Chutney, Lamb Dinner Special, and Masala Dosa. We may have gone a bit overboard with the portions, but who can complain about delicious leftovers? The standout dish was definitely the Cholle Bhature - a true delight for the senses! Although the puff deflated after a bit, it was still incredibly tasty with the accompanying chutneys. The Masala Dosa was also a hit, with its flavorful potato filling making it an ideal starting point for first-time diners. The Lamb Dinner Special did not disappoint either, with tender and succulent meat and a rich curry. The Samosa Chutney, although small in size, was quite substantial and paired perfectly with the mint chutney. Despite the busy atmosphere, we had no trouble finding a table and the service was prompt in bringing out our dishes. We highly recommend dining outside if the weather permits. Overall, this was a fantastic dining experience that we would happily repeat!
Very good place to have Indian food. It's well maintained, spacious indoor seating and there are benches outside too! Even though the place is crowded they have an organized ordering system. The food is served in steel plates which is definitely a PLUS! We ordered Sev Puri, Pani Puri, Vada Pav, Chai and Sitafal milkshake. Except Chai everything was good! (We have very demanding requirements for Chai so we hardly find the perfect Chai outside). The Sitafal milkshake was excellent. After many years I tasted this fruit and felt HOME. They have a grocery shop too so you can have two things at one place. MUST TRY INDIAN RESTAURANT In the north Bay area. Only con is they are open only until 7.30 pm so most of the time, we cannot make to place because of the timings.
The menu and lineup is intimidating when you step into Viks, but the food is delicious and the staff is so friendly. We asked about several things on the menu and they patiently answered. After ordering the samosa cholle, chicken kathi kebab, and koliwada fish, we waited in a room where a line of cooks and callers would pump out dishes (this took 15 minutes). We grabbed our to go bag and headed out to the parking lot in the back, where they have 2 covered seating areas with picnic tables that could see at least 12 groups. A great location, great food, and plenty of parking.
Tasty indian food!!! Huge sitting place. Kids loved the tandoori chicken thali. That thali came with bondi raita which was just too good. Chole bhature were amazing. Bhatura was very soft and huge. Pav bhaji was also nice. Overall, very nice street style indian food place. Highly recommend this place. Will surely visit again. They also have a Indian grocery section, but expensive compared to many south bay stores.
If you are looking for a great Indian food, this is THE place. You have to download the app and order it which is really annoying for me because I am old and I don't like to have to download apps constantly to be able to order food from each restaurant. (You do this a lot in the bay area. Not many places left that you can order food from a real person.) While you are waiting for your food, you can shop at their giant grocery. There are tons and tons of spices, and good quality products. Food is delicious. Right now there are about 30 seats outdoor. The dining seats are still closed after Covid.
Fantastic food! Many plant-based options. Beautifull plates. Eat inside or outside. Both inside and outside have places to put recyling. Inside has green bin also. Not sure about outside. Delicious food and chai in the restaurant. Great grocery selection of South Asian foods. Masala dosa was soooooo gooood! Good place for families or friends getting together. Beautiful colors in the food, building, and picnic tables delight the eye and heart.
You always know the food will be good when it's located inside of a grocery store. It took over 30 minutes for us to get our lunch, but it was definitely worth it. While you wait you can watch them make food over the countertop. The chicken curry lunch special was spicy but nothing I couldn't handle, and I can't handle a ton of spice. Tons of dog friendly outdoor seating, some of it is covered too. If I found myself in the area I would definitely come here again.
My best friend, who is Indian, recommended this place, and so far, we’ve been here twice—and plan to come back again soon! The food has been really good. Since I’ve only tried their dishes twice, I haven't noticed any decrease in quality like some others have mentioned. However, I did find the Cholle Bhature a bit too greasy, and it wasn’t puffy, even though we picked it up right after our name was called. We tried that and the Masala Dosa, both of which we really enjoyed. We’ll probably order the same dishes next time!
Viks Chaat is an absolute gem for Indian street food lovers. The atmosphere feels lively and authentic the moment you walk in. It reminds you of real chaat spots in India. The aroma of spices instantly makes you hungry. The menu has a huge variety of options. There is something for everyone. Vegetarians will be especially happy here. The chaat selection is outstanding. Pani Puri is fresh and flavorful. The water has the perfect balance of spice and tang. Samosa Chaat is crispy and well layered. The chutneys are rich and delicious. Bhel Puri tastes light and refreshing. Sev Puri has great texture and crunch. The Pav Bhaji is a must-try. It is buttery and full of flavor. The bhaji is cooked perfectly. Dosa lovers will not be disappointed. The dosas are crisp and golden. The fillings are well seasoned. Idli is soft and fluffy. Sambar tastes authentic and comforting. Chutneys are fresh and flavorful. The thali options are satisfying. Portion sizes are generous. The food feels homemade. Everything tastes fresh. The spice levels are well balanced. You can customize spice if needed. The prices are reasonable. You get great value for money. The service is quick. Staff are efficient and polite. Even during rush hours, things move fast. The ordering system is straightforward. The place can get crowded. That’s a sign of how popular it is. Seating is simple but functional. It’s more about food than luxury. The vibe feels casual and welcoming. Perfect spot for quick meals. Great place for families. Friends will enjoy eating here together. The flavors are consistent every visit. Quality does not drop. Ingredients taste fresh. The sweets section is impressive. Gulab Jamun is soft and syrupy. Ras Malai is creamy and rich. Jalebi is crisp and fresh. Desserts balance the spicy food well. The drink options are refreshing. Mango Lassi is thick and tasty. Masala Chai is comforting. The food brings back nostalgia. It feels like real Indian street food. You don’t need to travel far for authenticity. Viks Chaat delivers true flavors. The menu caters to all age groups. Kids will enjoy milder options. Spice lovers will be satisfied. The food is filling. You leave happy and full. Cleanliness is well maintained. The staff keep things organized. Despite crowds, tables turn quickly. It’s a popular lunch spot. Also great for evening snacks. The variety keeps you coming back. You can try something new each visit. The taste stays memorable. It’s hard to pick a favorite dish. Every item has its own charm. The balance of sweet, spicy, and tangy is perfect. Flavors are bold but not overwhelming. It’s a paradise for chaat lovers. One of the best Indian food spots around. Highly recommended for vegetarians. Non-vegetarians will still enjoy the experience. The food feels comforting and satisfying. Great place to introduce someone to Indian food. Authenticity is the biggest strength. Viks Chaat never disappoints. The crowd energy adds to the experience. You can feel the love for food here. Every dish feels carefully prepared. A must-visit spot if you’re nearby. Worth the wait during busy hours. Once you try it, you’ll return. It easily becomes a favorite. Perfect for casual dining. Excellent for quick bites. A true classic for Indian street food. Viks Chaat sets the standard. One of the best chaat experiences you can get.
Cozy little place with ample parking and little gazebos kind of things outside to sit and eat outside also just like what we call in India as "Dhaba". Once you enter there is also a basic Indian grocery store with once you enter which leads you into the restaurant. Food here is geniuenly authentic, piping hot, tasty and yummy just like wayback home. Me and my son went in hungry but came out satisfied and ready for our little "Road Trip" to get back home. We were convinced that the food we had here was refreshing and will definitely battle the traffic we face on our way back home. Lastly a shout back for Viks Chaat "Go Viks Chaat Go" The price was very reasonable. We have to pay first and then collect our food at the back. Our food was ready in a jiffy and also the system was so well organized that there was no crowd everywhere at the same time. Punjabi dishes basically like Aloo Tikki Chaat with Chole Masala, Samosas, Chole Bhature. Overall impression was the restaurant was neat, clean, big and lot of tables for us to sit and eat. Restrooms were neat and tidy. Atmosphere inside had the vibes of an "Indian Dhaba" In the grocery store, there were basic standard grocery items like rice, lentils, snacks and savouries and sweets. Berkley is lucky to have Viks Chaat so that you do not miss home away from home. Customer service representatives Raj and Prashanth were highly polite, humble, accomodative and helpful.
Overall my absolute favorite place to get Indian food in the Bay. Feels like an Indian University Canteen with reasonably priced food and cleanliness. Taste wise the food is amazing and nothing has disappointed me so far. Best place to hangout with a big group of friends and have loud conversations.
Located inside a supermarket. Cafeteria style. Order and pay at the counter where the menus are posted, find seating, and wait for them to call your name to pick up your food. The food may not all come at one time depending on what you order. Self serve water station available. Not your typical naan and curry Indian food. I guess they call this Indian street food. We ordered the masala dosa $15, pani puri $9, daily special mutton curry $21, daily special black pepper chicken $19. All the food was pretty good. The meat curry dishes were not super heavy like most Indian curries are, a bit salty but ok overall. I wouldn't say the food is cheap, but it's fairly priced and portions are good. They have plenty of both indoor and outdoor seating. Clean bathrooms. Parking is plentiful. Lots of Indian customers so you know it's legit. Overall, it's pretty good and I would go back and try other dishes
such good food and very organized. i love the new outside sitting. visiting after so long. definitely bringing back a lots of college days memories

Vick’s chaat is a Berkeley favorite. They have some really good items and some okay ones. The Aalu parantha is delicious, and the sweet and sour lemon pickle that comes with it is out of this world. However I was very underwhelmed with the quality and quantity of the pani puri chaat and the pav bhaaji. The mango lassi was ok. Given the prices and long wait times, I was hoping they would really deliver but sadly that wasn’t the case for me. The meat is halal so that’s a plus. What I really liked was their grocery store which had such an amazing variety of desi sweets, snacks and spices. They also have their own brand and I’m keen to try some of their items. I’ve also heard the items like Chhola bhatura and some other North Indian items are good. Will need to wait till my next visit.
Viks is a well-known Berkeley destination for Indian groceries and a wide selection of Indian food. The food hall itself is a no-frills cafeteria-style area. They have one of the widest selection of Indian food I’ve seen anywhere, including some harder to find regional dishes. The flavors are as varied as their selections, with a mix of hits and misses. For our tastes, their chicken curry thalis was great and flavorful, the biryani was okay but over-seasoned, and the koliwada fish seems to have been left in the fryer for a bit too long. Overall a nice place to grab a decent meal and enjoy the variety of Indian food.
The food itself is omg amazing and maybe even deserves 5 stars. Definitely would come back to eat here again. The ambience is basically cafeteria style and the seating not so comfortable. They provide plastic sporks that are ineffective to eat with, so maybe next time I'll bring my own silverware. The amounts were filling, the place was clean and efficient given the line - I was surprised how quickly the food was ready. We found street parking, which seemed safer than the parking lot given all the warnings about break ins. Charge a dollar more for your meals and hire a security guard if it's that frequent an occurrence.
Go to place for Indian groceries and some amazing Indian food. Recommended food - Sev Puri - Uttappam (Chutneys on the side are not great) - Rasamalai (Sweet dessert) Must try! - Kheema Samosa (Hot snack) Must try! Indian chai is not the best! However, the premises, parking and restrooms are good. Self service and clean facilities. UPDATE: Chole battura is amazing too.
The Aloo tiki and the Dahi papdi chaat are really tasty. We also had the vada pav which was really good especially the vada and the garlic chutney. Along with this we ordered the sev puri, samosa chole, dahi batata puri, bhel and the pan puri. The sev puri and the samosas were really good. Chole was tasty, but I prefer the chole from Delhiwala chaat restaurant in Sunnyvale. The pani puri filling was decent but the liquid filling was very diluted and lacked the punch. The bhel was decent as well.
Viks Chaat is a good place to go to try some not common Indian food. Plenty of vegetarian options. It'd ne nice if they had more pictures or ingredients in their menu for those of us who are not very familiar with the names. Warehouse-like environment with indoor and outdoor sitting. Portions are pretty decent.
Viks Chaat is one of the more well known Indian food restaurant and markets near the Berkeley area. They have a huge indoor food hall and dishes are served canteen style so they come out one by one as they are ready from various counters around the place. Make sure to listen for your name! Food wise the flavors are great and everything is made fresh so it comes out hot and ready to eat. The menu is extensive so order a few dishes and share them family style. Depending on what you get the dishes might be a little heavy on the fried / potatoey side so try to balance out what you order. The dosa and the samosas definitely tasted legit and came with a variety of sauces to pair nicely. Don’t skip on the mango lassi as well to wash it all down.
well known and large indian grocery store in the industrial area of berkeley serving classic indian chaat. food was solid but a little overpriced. overall, above average chaat place but doesn’t blow your mind. pani puri: best dish, ingredients were fresh. dhokla: also fresh and solid dish, a little too dense though pav bhaji: skip, unmemorable and leaned too heavy on the onion.
Good food, though you might need to do research ahead to know what to order. Staff isn't super friendly, but the food is pretty good overall. Lots of options, and there's an attached market with lots of dry goods, frozen foods, snacks, and almost anything you could think of, see photos.
Ambience is good. There is decent parking and might get tricky on a weekend. Actual dining place is inside the grocery store and there is an alternate door that gets you into dining hall as well Grocery store is small Can order food and Indian sweets. Menu looks interesting and tasty with whatever we tried. We saw some local beers on the menu but they were out of stock, would come back for that as well and the seating inside is decent. Vada pav was good Rose milk is good Dosa is decent Dahi pakori is very good Keema samosa is good and heavy Koliwada fish is my MVP - its fried fish n very tasty Kulfi falooda is decent Seetaphal milkshake is good
I like Viks. The food is tasty and it is a great addition to Berkeley's lineup of India cuisine. Viks can serve up a samosa that competes with anything, pretty much, that I can get India side. Other food I have tasted there over the years is very good. But since I spend half of my time in India, it puts me on a certain bias and the chai at Viks leaves me wanting actual Indian chai. You know, with ginger and lemon grass and raw buffalo milk. Maybe I have missed some chai options? My real peeve is the volume in the dining room. They seriously need sound treatment. It's an echo chamber. On a typical Saturday it is too loud to think, much less have a conversation. Sitting outside is a good option when weather is good....and Berkeley does spool out some great weather. But let me stress that Viks is an important and tasty fixture in West Berkeley. I always enjoy going there and it stays on my list of regular haunts.
I like going there to eat chole bhature they are great delicious other foods I haven’t tried but thalis yeah they ok . It is a quick street food bite .but little overpriced. But there store is over rated over priced in everything for example I asked for the fresh sweets price $12.99 at all other stores they are around 7-8 dollars .so please stop overcharging have fair price I don’t know why anyone hasn’t said a word yet . I will go back for my chole bhature but not for the store.
An amazing place serving Indian chaat. Can get crowded on the weekends, but still the service is pretty quick. Plenty of seating options both indoors and outdoors. We ordered Chole Bhature, Dahi Batata Puri, Pav Bhaji, Kaathi roll and Samosas. The Samosad were top notch, followed by Dahi Batata Puri, Bhatura was amazing but Chole could have been little more flavorful. Pav Bhajj and Kathi roll were decent but not very amazing. They serve Campa Cola too.
Vika Chaat has a casual, cafeteria-style vibe. The Tandoori Chicken Thali was just okay, and the Chole Bhature with chole being on the milder side , Dahi Pakori and Dahi Chaat were absolutely delicious—fresh, flavorful, and perfectly spiced. I also loved the mixed pickle they serve with the meal—it had a great tangy kick! I liked it so much, I ended up buying some to take home. Great spot if you’re craving North Indian chaat-style dishes.
We drove 40 minutes to try the place. Have heard excellent reviews from people who live in Berkeley about the place, so we were excited to go and try the place. It is located in a big warehouse like building with a big parking lot. When you enter the talk about an app to order food, there is counter in the food court area of the shop where you can order. It is a mixture of grocery store and food court. Pretty busy on the weekend. Ordered the wide variety of food items at the counter and then you pick a table. They have this announcement system which will tell you when your food is ready and you can pick it up from there. There are different counters that make different things. There is a possibility that you may not get all of the food at the same time. Food was decent, Chana Bhutara seemed to be the highlight of the place and chicken thali. One is good enough for two. Place has this college town food court vibe. I think this is excellent for students. Food is good but would definitely recommend this place just for an experience once in the lifetime.

My son is a recent transplant to the Bay area. A work associate of his recommended Vik's for authentic indian food. We were looking to be a little adventurous when in town visiting him a couple …
Lots of Indian street food options to choose from. The restaurant is spacious, you enter through a small grocery store/market place and then it opens up to the restaurant area. We tried Chole Bhature, Dahi puri and masala dosa. Chole Bhature - average. Chole didn’t have much flavor but bhatura was crispy and soft and pretty big!! Dahi puri - absolutely love it! The tamarind chutney they used was really fresh and it tasted so good Dosa - good. I didn’t quite like the Sambha though. Overall, super fast service. I found the place to be a bit overhyped. If you are in the area, do try dahi puri!
Went here for lunch after a lot of contemplation. I was surprised to see a shop from one of the entrances. Ordered and then had to wait for about 10 minutes. Food came packed in to-go like tiffin boxes. We ordered the Chicken Korma Thali, Vegetable Thali, Dahi Puri, Rose Lassi, Mango Lassi and Kulfi Falooda. Chicken korma was just okay and it came with one roti, pickle and Chana curry. The pickle was a highlight. The veggie thali had Saag Paneer, Chana curry. Paneer was tasty! The Dahi Puri was just okay. The lassi's were also just okay. Falooda Kulfi was special too. All in all, the food was tasty with the caveat that it was a tad bit costly than most Chaat places. Might come back for more.
I’ve heard great things about this place and was excited to go. We arrived early (11:22am) to beat the crowd. I wanted to try everything, so I needed to contain myself a try a few things. We ordered 2 lunch specials — tandoori chicken for me, vegetarian for my husband. I was told the puri are a must—so we ordered the pani puri. I have a soft spot in my heart for the samosa chutney and rasmalai. The samosa chutney and rasmalai didn’t disappoint. Samosa chutney was flavorful and had a nice balance of heat—a favorite! The rasmalai had delicate tones of the rose water that paired nicely with the spongy cake. It was a bit sweet but that’s to be expected. Unfortunately, the pani puri was stale. We brought it to the attention of a team member but we’re told all they had was from that batch. The lunch specials were underwhelming and overpriced, in my opinion. The menu and website indicated that the meal came with raita or papad. When my husband inquired we were told they no longer include that but could be purchased. All in all, I am glad I had an opportunity to try this place but sadly I will not be returning. There are so many other Indian restaurants to try in the Bay Area.
**Disappointing Decline in Quality** I used to love Viks, but sadly, it’s just not the same as it was six years ago. The taste has really gone downhill. The food now seems greasier with way more oil, and the prices have gone up significantly. What used to be a favorite spot has become a bit of a letdown. It’s disappointing to see such a change in quality, especially since it used to be so good.
Decent food. One request to management - please ask your staff who is serving food to wear gloves. The guy who gave me onion had his nails touching onions
Decent Indian food! Went there for lunch on a Saturday. You have to order food at the counter and wait for your name to be called to pick up your food. We ordered Chole Batura, Pani Puri, Gobi Paratha and Pav Bhaji. I liked Chole Batura amongst all. Pani Puri and Gobi Parath were mediocre. Pav Bhaji was decent. Portion sizes were decent. They have ample amount of space for indoor and outdoor seating. It’s self-serve so you to clean your table after yourself.
Went in for late afternoon lunch. Fish Thali was pretty disappointing- everything was lukewarm! Probably prepared earlier in the day. Could have at least reheated before serving. Chana and rice were both awful. Dosa was good but their sambhar and chutneys seriously need to be upgraded. They are probably known for their chats and even so, papdi Bhalla chat was not the best either. Too sweet and not fresh yogurt; wasn’t too friendly to my gut. Would skip everything else, and go for their other chats when in area! Sweets do look appetising.
Definitely not worth the hype. Prices are comparable or steeper than a full service restaurant. The service is ridiculously bad. Ordered 10 samosas to go and it is 37 minutes and still waiting. Don’t fall for it.
I was excited to finally try Viks Chat after hearing so much about it. Unfortunately, my first visit left me feeling disappointed. While the atmosphere was pleasant, the prices seemed exorbitant for what was served. I can't imagine $12 for one aloo paratha, it was a bit of a shock. I ended up ordering a thali, Chhole Bhature and dahi pakodi. The dahi pakodi and chhole bhature were so so but the thali was not good.
Food taste was the usual good standards. Service was excellent as always. We, unfortunately, found one hair in the paratha. I shared this with the lady at the mike and she promptly offered to give us another one. However, I noticed that 8 of the 12 people behind the counter were not wearing head covering. That's not acceptable, and needs to change immediately. Overall, a good experience marred by one blemish.

We ordered Chola Bhatura, Aloo Tikki, Pakoda & Tea. AT & Pakoda were just fine. Chola Bhatura was pretty bad (both the bhartura & Chola). Even the onion given with it felt like totally spoiled. Tea tasted like hot water. Too costly for this mediocre taste.
Sorry, but a self service, mediocre tin plate with 2oz of fat and meat interlaced with broken bone pieces followed by bussing your own table for $24+ explains why it was sparsely populated. Do yourself a favor and stay clear.
I recently visited this restaurant, and it was a major disappointment. The place gave off the vibe of a roadside eatery near a railway station in India—definitely not what I expected. I ordered dahi papdi chaat and chole bhature, and both dishes were drenched in tamarind chutney, way more than the dahi. The balance of flavors was completely off. The ambiance was another letdown; it's incredibly loud, with constant announcements of customer names repeated two or three times, making it impossible to enjoy a meal peacefully. The most concerning part was the lack of hygiene. I witnessed a man in the kitchen washing his shoes with his hands and not even bothering to wash his hands afterward. This place is far from what I would recommend, both for the food quality and the cleanliness standards. Save your time and money, and dine elsewhere.
Disappointing. If you like your food to be cold and overall want an unpleasant experience make sure to come here. Service 1/5 Not very friendly. Everything is self service and the staff are rude. Will not help me with finding take out container. People also cut the line to pay for food and the person who takes the order does not do anything about it. Food 3/5 Quality and flavor is good. Not too salty or greasy. However, everything was cold as if it sat on the counter for 20 mins just like the people. Nothing is made or even reheated to order. Only hot thing was samosa with chole. Chapati is cold. Chicken curry is cold. Everything cold. Tandoori chicken is very dry and cold. Overall do not recommend. Disappointing since food would be good if it was made hot and the service was better.
This place used to be one of the best places for good Indian food. But over the years, it has gone down. They sell you something, but when it is time to deliver-they suddenly run out. Food taste is not so good as well. For some reason, this still remains a popular place among college going crowd.
The chole and bhature were a mixed experience. While the chole was disappointingly flavorless, the bhature made up for it with their fluffy and generous size, making it the highlight of our meal. Moving on to the dahi batata puri, I found it to be lacking in flavor as well, which was a letdown. The khema samosa was a heavy and meaty delight, perfect for those who enjoy a meatier taste in their samosas. The vada pav, while edible, fell short in terms of authenticity. It lacked the signature Mumbai sukha chutney, and the pav was overly crispy. If you're located in the South Bay area, it might not be worth the drive to this place. Overall, I might consider returning here if I had no other options available, but it didn't leave a lasting impression.
I had really high hopes for this place considering the number of reviews and the great ratings this place had but it was a let down. The queue to order the found on a Sunday afternoon was very big. There were like 50 people minimum in front of me. Then once you order food the next task is to find the table. The management takes order without even caring if people have place to sit or not. Now you need to go to each table and see how far they are in the journey of completing their food and if they almost down just stand there right next to that table so that you can grab it as soon as it is available as they don’t have a seating system. Also it doesn’t matter if you have a table or not your food is getting prepared and they will announce your name to pick it up. About the food, I tried chole bhature where bhatura was good but chole was bland and didn’t had any taste of spices. I also tried masala dosa and the sambhar was tasted like a vegetable purée. Next I tried the Dahi papari chat and Kachori chaat non of those tasted like an Indian chaat. I would not be visiting this place again.
A food court featuring Indian food, sweets and weekly and monthly specials. The prices are good and service is quick. Things I disliked was that out of 3 people 2 people got sick from the food and it could be due to the hygiene or the potato in the food. This should be considered and the management should ensure better quality food. The collection of sweets is amazing and the prices are reasonable. Chole batura was my favourite pick. The store part is also good with limited collection but are very well displayed.
I like that this is canteen/cafeteria style and I love the grocery store component, but unfortunately the food was bad. Overly greasy, flavors felt off, several components tasted like they had been in the fridge too long. Pani puri especially disappointing.
They forced me do put down the stars I bought 3-4 chocolates and it was expired in September. So they are bad for giving expired. Viks chaat has good food and it has very good looks and tastes good and has good customer service they are nice and helpful there area is good like they have a grocery store in there as well And there bathrooms are very clean they also can give you boxes and bags there tables are very clean they have a water place with cups and a fountain and the way you get your food is by them calling out your name from the speakers and you go there and get your food. They also have many types of food like Dosa,Papri chaat and others.
I had Dahi Papdi chat and papdi Bhalla chat both tasted without salt, spice and not much enjoyable. Had lot of expectations as I heard from one of my friends this is very old and good chat house.
Unfortunately, this was the worst Indian food we've had in the Bay Area. The overall quality was disappointing, with dishes that were overly greasy and lacking in flavor. We ordered the thali and the yogurt papdi chaat - the kofta in the thali was particularly oily and underwhelming. The restaurant was also quite crowded inside, which made for an uncomfortable dining experience. For the price, it just didn’t feel worth it. On the positive side, there's ample parking available, and the service was fast and efficient.
Pretty mediocre food. Got bhel puri, chole bhature and saag paneer thali. Bhel puri was a little sweet, and one-dimensional but decent. Chole flavors are pretty off, no where close to Punjabi/pindi chole. Bhatura was good, a little too oily though. Saag paneer was unedible. Dal makhani was decent. Cucumbers were good :) 2/5
Bhel puri was horrible today and the person was very rude when a complaint was made. Neither apologized nor replaced it or refunded the money.

No words just so down graded Indian food and chat that only who have no idea how Indians food taste will only go. I just threw away my 11$ chat papri plate in trash. It's so embarrassing when you take a friend with you
Not mediocre but bitter tasting Chaat served here. I never had such bad tasting food in the Bay area. We ordered chaats, dosa and meals and nothing tasted good. They initially took our choley bature order and cancelled saying it's not available but in the next 10 mins another party was served the same. When asked they gave a lame excuse that the chef was not available when we ordered which was just 10 mins ahead of another party. Never planning to go again and would never suggest anyone to go here. I have no idea how they got a 4star review.
So horrible. Everything was horrible. The lassi was too sweet. The bature was so oily. 2Tb of oil dripped when we picked it up. The pani puri was stale and dahi was bad too. Could not eat or finish a single thing. The quality handle got really really bad. Wouldn’t recommend or visit again.
I visited Viks Chaat with my family and we were served spoiled food, leading to food poisoning for everyone. When we reported the issue to the billing counter, the staff was extremely rude and told us to leave the store. They treated my family with great disrespect. We drove over an hour to get there, only to experience poor taste and quality. Attached a picture showing thread-like strands, indicating spoilage. Please do not waste your time and money here. EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED and ANGRY. I will report this to food safety authorities to prevent this from happening to others, especially innocent kids and elderly.
Went today. Chicken thaali had bad quality chicken and it tastes really bad too. I had been here a few months ago when the curry was better and the quality of food seems to have deteriorated. The person at the counter refused to accept cash I was paying and insisted I pay by card. When I tried to ask why, he was simply rude.
Giving 1 star for the use of compostable plates and paper bag- no compostable bin though!!! Absolute rubbish food, no flavor, no quality ingredients. Cheese Dosa for kids has some spray cheese which was outright rejected by kids! $18 for those cheese dosas that kids couldn’t eat past first bite. Chole bhature were cold, and had sweet chutney in chole. Green chutney was bad. Over priced for the quality of food. No tables were clean and had to request many times for a table to be cleaned while two employees roamed about doing nothing. Would not recommend this place if you want Indian food. Probably the worst Indian food in entire Bay Area- for food and service.
Food was stale. Completely flavorless. Tandoori chicken sev puri and vada pav were stale with watered down chai. Not even sambar with kids dosa.
Regarding the establishment: The place is quite spacious, featuring a grocery store as well. However, it lacks ample street parking space, especially during busy periods. However there is a big dedicated parking lot for this place. Regarding the food: I am perplexed as to why this place has garnered over 3,000 reviews and maintains a rating of over 4 stars. Based on recommendations, we decided to order cholle bhature, sev puri, and mango falooda. Cholle Bhature: The cholle lacked any discernible flavor, making it the most tasteless version I have ever encountered. The bhature, on the other hand, were excessively oily and disproportionately large. Sev Puri: Considering this establishment positions itself as a street food restaurant, one would expect a more flavorful and enjoyable sev puri. Unfortunately, the one they served was completely devoid of taste and, in my experience, the worst I have ever encountered.. Mango Falooda: I cannot comprehend why they would incorporate mango lassi into a falooda. The combination was peculiar, and the lassi tasted sour, indicating it might have been kept for an extended period. Apologies for digressing from the topic of falooda, but the vermicelli itself was cold and dry, as if it had been taken directly from the fridge. Perhaps it was just an off day for the establishment, but I find it overrated. I will not be returning here
stale food. stay away from lunch meal and it is overpriced. Rice/Biryani is stale. they might cook it over weekend and keep serving for a week. not freshly cooked rice.
The dahi batata puri fell short in the flavor, which was quite disappointing. Ordered Sev puri but got sev papdi, another miss. The experience with the chole bhature was a bit mixed. Unfortunately, the chole lacked flavor, but the bhature made up for it with their fluffy and generously-sized servings, becoming the highlight of our meal. The tea was very watery and tasteless. Drove an hour to this place but it’s very disappointing. Plus points - Service was fast, lots of parking, decent rates.
Terrible terrible terrible food and service. Dirty floors, disorganized tables. EXPENSIVE AF, totally not worth it. Looks like a public school cafeteria. For $20 I could have gone to a nice Indian restaurant where I could set and be served. In conclusion: Trash! Oh also calling that tasteless water tea you make “chai” is a slap on the face to the great subcontinent of India 🇮🇳. What a humiliating chai. Improve or move!
I have ordered chicken thali and the smell of chicken is very bad, I can smell rotten meat smell. I couldn’t able to eat the whole plate. It’s not only chicken curry but also tandoori chicken is bad. $22 is wasted. So try to avoid and it may be not good for health. I am concerned about the meat they get from.
We have purchased three frozen Vic’s brand items in the past two months from the market that had large, green and black, moldy spots all over them. This included a tub of itilly that was supposed to be good for two more weeks as well as a frozen package of bread that has the peas inside and a frozen package of Sambar. I tried to call all the numbers on their website, but no one answers at any of the numbers because I wanted to let them know and give them a chance to fix these issues. Clearly food Safety is not important to them. We used to be weekly shoppers at this grocery store, but can no longer shop here and feel that is very unsafe to shop here due to consistent significant food safety issues. It makes us so sad to see such a great place fall so low.
We ordered multiple dishes: 1. Pao Bhaji: Under toasted pao. Cold Bhaji - without garnishing 2. Papdi Chaat with Bhala: salt-less, bitter bhala 3. Samosa Chaat: Frozen samosa quickly fried in extremely hot oil - bubble top layer with raw batter inside. 4. Thali with Methi: raw single chapati, salt-less rice. Tempering on the daal is a joke. The restaurant seating is a disaster - the layout efficiency is poor. The location of the store is great. Parking is ample. The grocery section and choices are good.
I originally posted a review regarding loud noises coming from the parking lot of Viks and I'd like to amend it. I spoke with manager and they were extremely polite and accommodating and things have been quiet ever since. Of course the food is, without question, the best Indian food in california. They are also good neighbors!
Not sure how this restaurant got so many 4plus star reviews. May be it lost touch. It feels like cafeteria food with loud music. Our 4 yr old could not tolerate the noise. We ordered chole bhature, papdi chat, pani poori and 2 chicken dishes. Chicken thali and kati rolls. Chile bhature were below average with bhature dipped in oil and chicken thali had old chicken curry. Kati roll had same chicken curry wrapped in a roti with no sauces. That was the last straw. Only edible food was papdi chat and pani poori. They both were good but overall a big led down.
This was a very bad experience for us. Food didn’t show up for an hour and was not the right order. We spent all this time waiting at the counter instead of having a good peaceful meal. AVOID - nothing this crappy place serves that is worth your wait. Food was not tasteful. Ordered Indian sweets and those had been sitting there for a while.
