My husband is from the Philippines where Max’s Chicken is local so we love stopping at Max’s Chicken in Bloomfield when we are passing through on our way to Rhode Island. The service is so great from the minute you enter. We have gotten the same great waiter (PJ) and he remembers us from visit to visit. He is wonderful and makes us feel like family. We love the krispy pata, chrispy fried chicken, garlic rice and the noodles. We order the combo special which gives us all of these and more for a special deal. There is plenty to take home. We love it. Wish there was a Max’s Chicken closer to us in the Atlantic City area. See you next time!! 🤗
Max's is a chain of international Filipino-cuisine restaurants with multiple locations in the US, Canada, the Middle East and, of course, the Philippines. We are blessed that there is one nearby in Jersey! The authentic food and authentic service (i.e. extraordinarily friendly) make this place worth a visit. Food was brought out to my birthday party of ten promptly and served family-style: Deep plates of entrees are set before you and everybody serves themselves from it. We ordered the following and each is certainly recommendable: - Max's fried chicken, their signature dish served with fries - Sinigang na Baboy - pork and veggies in a tamarind broth - Tofu Sisig - a vegetarian riff on the Filipino sizzling pork dish - Lechon Kawali - deep fried pork belly - Pancit palabok - rice noodles in a shrimp and pork sauce - Kare-kare - Beef and veggies in a peanut sauce - Pancit Bihon - fried noodles with chicken, shrimp and pork - Turon - Bananas fried in a crispy wrapper, served with caramel sauce - Halo-halo - "A blend of refreshing tropical fruit preserves, beans, and milk in shaved ice. Topped with a delicious scoop of Ube (purple yam) ice cream, flan, and rice flakes." The servers are extremely friendly and polite - they seem like the type to bend over backwards to help you. We asked for a bottle of water before our food came out for one of our kids who was extremely thirsty. When it was brought to us, the server was sincerely concerned for her welfare. When it was notified that it was the birthday for one of us, they all came out, sang and the celebrant was given a complementary slice of flan with a candle. For dessert we ordered turon and the large-size halo-halo. This was was a crazy spectacle with all the usual ingredients but also studded with piroulines and paper parasols, all in a huge glass goblet (see my picture). They brought out cups so we could all share in it. The space isn't huge, but that doesn't matter. It's a nice place: the modern faux-brick paneling is pleasant, wooden tables and chairs are clean and sturdy - this is not a hole-in-the wall nor a greasy burger chain. A visit to Max's is a great option for your Filipino-food fix. It's got more of a variety than Jollibee (and probably healthier) and it's got a home-y flavor. The only gripe I have is the parking situation as it's located in a popular strip mall with a dearth of spots. It's always full with people people camping or jockeying for an opportunity. Otherwise, don't hesitate to drop by! Edit: we ordered food to take out at another date and I've added pics of those dishes.
Authentic Filipino meals are not easy to come by, but Max's restaurant comes prepared with some of the best meals I've had in a while!!! Our server was PJ, super friendly and helped my Lola (Grandma) feel like family 😁!! We had a slight hiccup when Lola ordered a meal with pork in it, but PJ wanted to help us fix it with no hassle, and we're extremely grateful! The service, atmosphere and food are all top notch, and we were absolutely spoiled, so go enjoy a great meal with some amazing culture 😌!
My husband and I came here just for dessert and it did not disappoint. My hubs and I shared the buko pandan and halo halo deserts. The Halo Halo was definitely large enough for 2 people but we wanted to try more than 1 item. We really enjoyed the different flavors and textures of both! The pan Dan was really creamy and light whereas the halo halo had a mixture of crunchy ice and a chewy blend of sweet toppings. I highly recommend for your korean dessert cravings!
This was my second time coming here. The first time I ordered takeout and the chicken took 25 min to make. Eating in was much faster and service was amazing. We had the chicken, pork belly, BBQ skewered pork, and pork hock for entrees. All of it was stellar and flavorful. For dessert we splurged and got the Halo Halo, Budoku Pandan, and the corn dessert. The Halo Halo and Pandan desserts were great. I preferred the Pandan but my wife and her friend enjoyed the Halo Halo. The corn dessert caught us off guard because it wasn't dessert-like but was a milk type thing on top of what tasted like pureed unsweetened corn. It definitely was not made for our flavor pallet. I was expecting something more along the Vietnamese style sweet corn dessert and this definitely was not that just be aware of that if you are expecting a sweet dessert.
We came here for take-out. As always, the fried chicken and pancit were delicioso. Staff was friendly. The grass green backdrop is great for photoshoot. One big issue for me was the obnoxious odor that greeted me when I entered the resto. Other than that, all’s good in this Max’s resto.
Decided to dine here at Max since its been a long time since we ate at a Filipino Restaurant and plus we really needed to do some Asian Grocery shopping and this was right next to East West Market. There was a bit of a wait finding a space to park but we got seated right away as soon as we entered the restaurant. Staff was pleasant, polite and got our orders correctly. For the food, we got half of the fried chicken which had good flavor and was crispy. The fries was very enjoyable too as it was fried to perfection! We also got the lechon kawali. It had good flavor, good crunch but i think i may have had better. It was quite good with the garlic rice! Same with the Daing na bangus. Its was okay by itself but flavor got better when paired with the atchaea and the vinegar. Our favorite that day was the Shrimp Sinigang. Lots of flavor! Portion was good and it was just so hearty and delicious! Enjoyed all but my husband mentioned he wouldve wanted the orders hot instead of warm; Especially since we came in during winter season. We really had an enjoyable meal; Remembering all these delicious Pinoy Eats. Was the food really good or was it good because its been a while we havent had it? Hmmm maybe both.
This place is no frills. Grab a table and order. Coconut and Calamansi (Lime) Juices - both were so good and refreshing on a hot day! Lumpia - filipino style eggroll, which was good, kinda weird it came with ketchup... Daing na Bangus (Deep fried Milkfish) - delicious! Crispy Pata - that is some delicious pork, so crispy outside and yet juicy pork inside Garlic Rice - should be served everywhere! Sweet Potato Fries Definitely a must try for Filipino food
The food is good for the soul. Delightful Filipino food. The only thing was the wait and the restaurant only had two servers which made the wait slightly longer than usual. Other than that my tummy was absolutely satisfied ! I love that they have family specials that have a few dishes that can feed 4-5 people at such a great price.
First time going to this Max’s we usually go to JC but that location was getting renovated. We were greeted nicely as we entered. A table was cleaned and setup for us. Our server Ashley unfortunately was not very attentive. I had to literally yell across the room to get her attention. Secondly the Kare Kare was a rip off we literally got 4 of the smallest oxtails in the serving. The pineapple juice was very good and so was the fresh lumpia it was delish. The Lumpia Shanghai was great too. Restaurant was well kept and restrooms were clean. Hope Ashley gets training on how to better serve her guest. Also hope their Kare Kare has nice size oxtails the next time we visit.
The long wait for the food and the food itself were not worth the $400 we spent. And the AUTOMATIC gratuity? Yeah, I don’t know what service they think they gave to the two BABIES who were part of our 6-person party. I would never spend my money there again, and if visiting relatives want to go, I’m definitely gonna tell them to reconsider other better places.
-Waitress does not listen to the order. Let the customer finish then you can repeat the order. Simple soda choices is very important for a hungry customer. -The sisig is not what I was expecting. Soy sauce is always not a best choice to add saltiness. -Men's Bathroom has no toilet paper!!! Try adding a small table to place extra toilet paper. And there is a huge gap between the door and separation wall of the toilet. Other people will see you while sitting on the toilet bowl. Cover the gap for your customers privacy!
Parking can be quite competitive. This restaurant is located in a small shopping plaza so parking can be tough depending on what day/time you go. I've been to the sister Max restaurant in Jersey City so this was a first for me at this location. The restaurant looked clean. The food was great. The BBQ chicken skewers were the best. It was flavorful, well grilled, and juicy. The crispypata was very fatty and didn't have that much lean meat. I prefer more lean meat. The pinakbet was ok but I am not a bittermelon fan. The halo halo had more ice to filling ratio...on the cheaper side compared to all other filipino restaurants I've been to. The only reason for a 2 star is service. Our server was rude. He was rushing us when we were ordering and seemed to have an attitude. That spoiled the whole mood. Probably wouldn't come back here again.
My first time here and might be my last dinning in. Had lumpia as appetizer.... they were good. I had the chicken dinner and my wife had the sliced beef. The chicken was deep fried crispy but had no flavor at all. The slice beef was amazing. We ended up sharing her dish. For dessert had the Halo Halo, it's ok.
Very disappointed, they dont serve lunch on Tuesdays. We came all the way to eat here with my bestfriend. And very hungry to try the food. But they said they accept only take out orders! Now I'm very hungry and very angry!!! And we called them before we left, but they didn't even answer😡
