Amazing coffee, beautiful space, and genuinely kind people. You can taste the care in every cup. Plowshares Coffee Roasters is the kind of place that makes you slow down and enjoy the moment. One of my favorite coffee spots—highly recommend!!

Live jazz Sundays 2pm is great. Good coffee, limited food options sometimes. Last time I came they had a tasty focaccia sandwich, maybe it's new

The coffee is great, the service is top-notch, love the design and the jazz sessions on Sundays. They even have a chess set. Feels like heaven to me. 10/10!

Delicious focaccia sandwiches, standard fare for coffee (+tea, chai, hot cocoa). Delicious baked goods

We always come here when we visit New York City! Plowshares has outstanding coffee and excellent service. The Harlem store is spacious for a sit-me-down, and the Broadway location is the quintessential hole-in-the-wall. Both highly recommended!!

It’s a delight to find an unexpected jazz Sunday brunch in favorite cafe spot. Made my day!

A beautiful place to work, with many outlets, seat cushions, various seating arrangements, self-serve water, TWO restrooms, that has an amazing free monthly Open mic too! (Definitely sign up for their newsletter — it was the first good thing that ever came out of my spam inbox!) Drink prices are very reasonable to me. I think they serve some soups and pretzels for food; have not had myself yet. My iced chai latte served in a real glass was life-giving on a horribly humid day. They have some beer/ales and one on tap. Day pictures are from a grateful Sunday afternoon where many people were working alongside me with laptops, and it was very quiet, spacious, and filled with natural light. Including one picture of the Open Mic where my partner and I stayed for an amazing show until 10pm on a summer Fri night. With prices so reasonable, I would really love for this cafe to thrive. Please come here. Note: Hours differ depending on the weekday!

This place has had the BEST coffee-responsibly sourced- expertly prepared for years. But today we tried a creation of theirs called a Breakfast Piadina: MIND BLOWN! A fresh-baked delicate Italian flatbread folded over egg, arugula, house-made picked onion with avocado, a little cheese. Worth a trip from afar! There are also beautiful croissant-based pastries. And the owners wonderful community-minded folks. Spacious, bright atmosphere- the best place on this island!

Very fresh espresso and lovely latte art in the cortado. They even roast on site!

This place stands on its own in NYC. There is NOT any coffee shop with this much space, this high quality espresso and baristas, and food/pastries this good. I’ve been everywhere in NYC and this place is special. The prep for the shots are very carefully done with care and precision, the milk art is on point (most places don’t even try anymore), and they have freshly made breakfast tortilla wraps (they call them piadinos) that really are delicious and well made. On the weekends, they have focaccia sandwiches which I’d make a special trip for just those because they’re insanely good. In the back, they’re roasting the coffee (video included), there’s a little espresso science lab that clearly they use for experimenting with who knows, and it’s super clean. What else do you want? I wrote my dissertation here. Love this place.

I LOVE Plowshares. Truly my favorite cafe by Columbia. It is large and spacious with many places to sit and great drinks and food to keep you sustained. I have been going here for over three years, and it is my go to place. I really love their soups which are fresh and rotated. There was a period of maybe two months when I came twice a week to work. Not too loud not too busy but still dynamic. my ONLY! wish is that they would carry matcha, but they also have many other non-coffee options (hot tea, hot chocolate, chai latte)

Cafe culture is alive and well here! You can get a lot of work done here. The light is as good as the vibe. I have not been to the live music night yet—but if the grand piano is any indication they take it as seriously as their coffee.

Pumpkin pastry perfectly executed; excellent and flavorful lamination, perfect pumpkin filling—not too dense, and sweet just enough for a breakfast pastry. Flat white well done—no nonsense but still kind staff. Amazing space. There’s care.

Nice service, lots of space (unlike any nyc coffee) and the pastries are amazing. One of my dependable neighborhood coffees for years

Quality of the coffee here is really good. Love the space although I never sat down to enjoy it. Definitely will become one of my go-tos as a girl who loves coffee

Stayed in Harlem for 6 weeks over the summer. Tried several coffee shops in the first week I was there and easily made this one my “go-to”. Their coffee is truly un matched. I consider myself a bit of a coffee “snob” having grown up with parents who owned a coffee shop, and having traveled to countries that are known for their coffee. Not only is this some of the best espresso I’ve had, but the customer service is so wonderful. After only a few days, the weekday barista already knew my order. Iced americano with an extra shot. He was super friendly and very knowledgeable when my parents came to visit and were asking all about their coffee. They also have a cinnamon roll that is very good, if you see one available, snag it! All of their other pastries were good too. Honestly, I can’t wait until we are back in NY permanently because I have been missing this place!

Wonderful coffee shop. It’s great Harlem gets to enjoy a spot like this one. Recommend buying their whole coffee beans — freshly roasted. Great variety and wonderful flavor profiles. My favorite shop in the city.

Good chill music. Ideal atmosphere for those who want to focus and get things done. WiFi, accessible plugs and many tables. There’s a piano and a chessboard. Yummy pretzel and very good pain au chocolate. The coffee was small, but the flavor was great.

This is a go-to place for coffee and a cozy space to work on whatever you are doing. I like the space a lot and they serve pastries from a super delicious bakery which is one of my favorites in lower east side. Cappuccino was decent, although not super creamy. The beans they used were on the mid-dark roasted side, slightly bitter.

Beautiful coffee shop in Harlem. 😍 - perhaps one of my favorite coffee shops in NYC. I’ve been here twice but always satisfied with my cappuccino or latte. I went here last Saturday (images) and it was a rainy day. I was a bit disappointed that I wasn’t asked if I would have my coffee inside or to go, so my beverage was served on a carton cup. But other than that, as an avid coffee drinker, I’m a fan.

Great coffee shop, but 2 stars off for being aggressively dog unfriendly. Came here on a very hot summer day (90° +) and while most places will let you stand by the door with a well-behaved leashed dog, this place will force you outside in the heat to wait for your to-go drink.

I really loved studying at this place, but the staff is so rude/unreasonable that it's not worth it. They add so much ice to their iced drinks (more than half the cup) that by the time you get home, especially now that it's summer, the drink is watery/doesn't taste good. I politely asked them to do light ice and they gave me significantly less coffee. I thought it was a mistake so I didn't say anything, but the third time it happened, the empty space in the cup (that I paid over $5.00 for) was so significant that I asked if they could add a splash of milk. The guy smugly refused and went on about how they put exactly 4 oz of ice in their cups and the amount of liquid was the same. I go there, i.e., spend money there, almost every single day--the fact that they're so stingy about *milk* is so bizarre. I want to support local, but this place does not care about it's customers. There's such a good opportunity here to build a community space, but they clearly just don't care. So disappointing. For context, this is the drink they gave me. Update: even if I accept the explanation from the business, the core issue was the rudeness/condescension with which the guy at the counter communicated. This is not the first time it's happened either (and based on other reviews, I'm not the only person to have this experience). I'd rather spend my money at a coffee shop that's kind to its customers and makes people feel welcome rather than like inconveniences.

I came in with my friend who has a service dog a golden retriever, depending on the person who’s at the counter you will get different responses. I walked to the counter and the guy with the red/ginger beard i think named Malcom . Thinking he was doing his “job” immediately saw me and instead of “Hello, how are you” like any other normal barista he just said “No pets are allowed in the coffee shop.” Me , not being the owner of the dog responded that it was a service dog. The law is you ask the owner of the dog/person handling the dog. My friend was still by the door with the dog, she was on the phone with her sister not aware of what was happening . The barista made no attempt to question the owner of the dog. His entire demeanor was very hostile, he asked me “what service does the dog perform “I said “it’s my friends dog she’s a seizure response dog “ right then he should have just started to ask the owner of the dog not me, but he quickly snapped , “I asked what service he performs not your disability”. I responded “he alerts seizures you shouldn’t be asking me, it’s my friend’s dog “ I saw how hostile he was and rude so I walked over to my friend and explained to her the issue , she was going to speak to the guy but she overheard him speaking to someone else that works there “I don’t think it’s a service dog “ so she didn’t feel like debating her medical reality with a barista. We tied the dog outside , ordered two mid lattes and stale pastries and called it a day. To be fair LEGALLY speaking, “seizure response dog “ is a perfectly acceptable answer under the ADA. He was being purposely obtuse. I’m from Harlem, we are both native New Yorkers and it’s a shame to see my neighborhood lose its charm and be policed by hostile white transplants who treat disabled people of color with suspicion like we’re running a scam. Do better, Plowshare. Train your employees to be friendly considering they work for tips. Severe attitude issues with that one. Sipsteria just one block up is a charming ,better, friendlier, smaller place that welcomed her service dog. Maybe because it’s run by immigrants…
