First off, please excuse my half eaten food. I realized I had forgotten to take a picture 😂 But this place is delicious authentic Jamaican food. A small size lunch will run you $7.00 and was filling for me. They are very pleasant and I loved their food. This place is within walking distance of work and I’m so glad.
Cashier was very courteous, food was very good had the carrot Juice and it taste so good,
Stumbled into this place today and had jerk chicken 10/10 awesome vibe and delicious home made food - super friendly service. I will be back, highly recommend.
Before I started college, my uncle told me about this place before they switched locations. He said that the food is really good and I should try it. I did just that. My first time trying it, I ordered oxtail rice and peas and cabbage, I've been hooked off of them ever since. That was back in 2018. Their food is flavorful and hot. You always get your money worth. They have never disappointed me. Even tried their breakfast, too. Ackee and saltfish with dumplings, and it was amazing. There are not many places that I ordered that dish from, but this place got it hands down. Also, I brought food for my parents, and they are picky eater. They would rather cook their own food than buy out, and they enjoyed it too. Food 10 out of 10. Customer service 10 out of 10.
. Trust me I’ve been going here for years Tit I go in there it’s busy bustling very busy . There is a line of people in and out in and out . This whole community supports their business and people come from all over . Do not believe them and I am telling you that. . I just ordered today and everything came well . The soup was delicious and always delicious. It got me through the flu and cold. I can eat there soup and food every day if I can afford it 😊 I put most away for dinner tonight I like to order and put it aside . Five stars on top of five stars I wasn’t able to take all the photos, but I will return back when it’s dinner I have Jerk chicken, curry, chicken, rice, peas, and vegetables . You can dine in old school. Elderly people sitting in conversing eating soup and eating good everyday of the week . I’ve been going here since the 80s when they was located on Sullivan place and Nostrand Avenue . Support black business From Anita
This is the best Jamaican Caribbean restaurant in NYC five stars on top of five stars. I could eat their food every day if I could afford it. It’s always busy people all day long people in and out. You can even sit in to eat. The atmosphere is great. I mainly love the oxtails dinner the cow foot soup and roti ect .I be fending for their food and when I get it, I’m so excited to eat it . The soup I even reheated and put it in a pot, so it won’t lose the natural flavor . I know a lot of people don’t like soup this soup would knock out flu 😷 and cold .. possibly even Covid . I never reheat in a microwave 🤗🤗🤗🤗 I’m there number one fan … and I remember years ago they used to be on Nostrand and Sullivan plaice . Still top-notch food .
The jerk pork was pretty good and well seasoned but a few pieces were tough. The curry shrimp was tiny and had a slight aftertaste. The rice and sweet plantains were overcooked and mushy. But I enjoyed the carrot juice.
I tried Vee’s and the ackee and saltfish was amazing—the flavor really hit the spot. The only issue was the white rice, which was crispy and burnt on the bottom. I spoke up about it and was told next time they would do better, but I honestly expected a replacement to be offered. Unfortunately, I won’t be returning, as I’m concerned the rice might upset me. The ackee was delicious, but the rice experience left me disappointed
Food is great, like the jerk pork is truly some of the best I’ve had but the customer service is nonexistent. And judging by reviews here and on Yelp, it seems to be a consistent issue across the board. The first time I ordered, they didn’t have escovitch (even though it was around 6pm and they close at 9:30) but instead of calling me to ask if I wanted a replacement, they just took it off the order and I wasn’t made aware until after my food was delivered. They also somehow didn’t have cabbage at 6pm so they sent greens and stale plantains. When I called them to find out what happened, the lady I spoke to was very rude & dismissive, telling me that she refunded the fish, which really wasn’t the issue. It was the principle. I ordered two meals and only got one. If given the choice, I would’ve selected something else or cancelled altogether. I just called today to make sure they have everything that’s listed on their menu and theyre somehow already completely out of Mac, plantains and cabbage. If that’s the case, update your menu! & It took me 10 tries to get through to the restaurant, yall need to do a lot better.
Most of the food is great drink also pretty good. ORDERING system however is terrible if u dont know u will b waiting a long time 4 some food & that's unfortunate for no reason at all a little organizing can rectify that immediately I would assume . & that RUG or something stinks in there it need fi CHANGE OR FIX . But It doesn't effect the food its still pretty good
I’ve been dining at Vees for over 20 years, dating back to when they were down the road on Montgomery & Nostrand, right next to the Associated Supermarket. This place has been a staple for many of us long before the neighborhood changed. That said, tonight may very well have been my last dine-in experience—because this was an all-time low. Let’s be honest: Vees has never been beloved for hospitality or customer service. If anything, the staff’s attitude has been notoriously poor for years unless you’re a regular and even if you dine everyday you still may get ignored. I never came here looking for friends. What kept people coming back was value: massive portions, solid to very good food depending on the chef, and plates so generous that a “small” dinner could feed two adults or guarantee leftovers the next day. Those days are sadly gone! Since the August 11, 2026 price increase, dine-in portions have shrunk to something bordering on a kids meal. Pair that with long wait times, moody servers, higher prices, cold food, and comically small plates, and the equation simply doesn’t work anymore. The juice is no longer worth the squeeze. When you remove portion size and don’t replace it with improved quality, service, or consistency, loyalty starts to evaporate. At this point, I can patronize virtually any Caribbean spot and get equal or better value or spend a little more and enjoy a truly elevated Jamaican dining experience like Tatiana by Chef Kwame or S’aimer. This review comes from someone who wanted to keep supporting Vees. But tradition alone isn’t enough. Unless something changes, this feels less like a rough patch and more like a new standard and that’s disappointing for a place with such deep roots in the community.
Vee’s used to be one of the top 5 Caribbean restaurants in NYC in my book, but sadly it’s nowhere close to what it once was. I used to come here twice a week because the food was always fresh, flavorful, and worth the wait. Prices were fair, the vibe was great, and even with a 30-minute line, you knew you were in for something special. Now the prices have shot up while the quality has completely dropped. The jerk chicken and jerk pork are dry, the oxtail is bland and lacking that rich, slow-cooked depth it used to have, and the sweet plantain is bad. Nothing tastes like it’s made with the same care. What hurts most is knowing how good this place used to be. I’d happily wait in line again if it meant getting back the hot, well-prepared, flavorful food that made Vee’s stand out. Instead, it feels like they’ve given up on what made them special. Really disappointing to see a place that once defined Caribbean food in the city reduced to just another forgettable spot.
Been coming here for a while and recently the food has gone down. Came recently and bought two medium rice and curry/ stew dishes and they werent prepared well. There was basically no meat at all in this goat curry and all bones (excuse this picture- ate a bit and turned it to check). In the stew chicken, there was no gravy, just chicken and rice. Wasted $22. Won’t be coming here again, unfortunately because the owner is sweet. However, the staffs are extremely rude even though the owner is right there.
Please. If you value your health or your life do not eat here! My mother and Father in law who are visiting purchased curry goat here 8/16/22 for themselves and me. I gave mine to my girlfriend. The next day all 3 of them suffered and are still suffering 8/20/22 from food poison. Symptoms are so bad my girlfriend could not go to work. This is horrible that all 3 of them are suffering. The food obviously was not fresh. The food health department needs to visit here ASAP. IF the option was available for 0 stars I would have done that. STAY AWAY!!
They have a B . Food is not all that good anymore hit or miss . Prices are just insane for such low quality of food & servers are disappointingly rude and just act like they don’t want to work .
(I have been going here for years, prior to ownership change. It has gotten worse over time)Garbage restaurant that serves garbage subpar food, plays favoritism and is always out of everything on the menu unless you are one of their buddies. They will ignore you and let other people skip you on line (happened to me on multiple occasions). You'll spare your mental health and blood pressure by not going here.
I went in today and ordered a large ackee and salt fish with white rice. I was told the price would be about $17. I didn’t have cash on me, so I used my card, assuming the price would be the same. After leaving, I checked my account and saw I was charged $28.31. I called the restaurant to ask why there was an $11 difference just for using a card. That’s unbelievable. I won’t be ordering from them again
Make some conditions for couriers so that couriers do not wait for 25-30 minutes to come in. I was waiting for my order for almost 25 minutes on July 13 at 2:19 p.m. It seems you did not have many people. Thanks to couriers you also earn money. So make conditions for them too so that they do not wait for their orders for so long!!!!
Vee, your staff very slow, no matter how many people in the restaurant it’s the same slow coach attitude. It appears that you have employees that don’t care about your business anymore. Get fresh new faces who really appreciate their job and really understand customer service.
This morning was my last chance with Vee’s. Between the service and the food, they are not up to par anymore. Everytime you go in there the people behind the counter ignore you, and if you say something about it, you get nothing but attitude. If you don’t like your job that’s not on the customers. This morning I ordered mackerel and it seems like they didn’t clean this mackerel AT ALL! These were just the few pictures I snapped before throwing it out. I wasn’t even halfway done look at all of the bone, scales, AND FINS I removed!!! Once I got to the fin I was done. Money down the drain and appetite ruined.
The food is disgusting, and the quality has plummeted dramatically. The plantains taste exactly like cardboard. The stew chicken has both skin and feathers. The service is bad and not worth the wait. Vees was a well-known Jamaican restaurant in Crown Heights. However, this has made a return for the worse!
