This is hands down going to be the best review I have ever written. I truly cannot possibility put into words how amazing our experience was! We came for a birthday dinner and this place came highly recommended from a good friend so we had to swing by! The vibe is somewhat casual, there was live music outside on the patio but my husband and I got sat inside in the romantic corner where the owner told us several movies/shows have filmed at! It was so cool to learn a little bit of their history! Our server came by and recommended that we do the wine tour if we were considering ordering a bottle of wine so we did! The owner Michelle took us on a little adventure to their wine nook where she shared some of their favorites and what would go well with our dinner. We got to pick our bottle (we picked a white that was in the cooler) and they served it table side. The wine? Absolutely perfect. We were feeling adventurous and decided to order escargot as an appetizer despite never having tried it! If you are feeling bold, order it! It’s so mild in texture but the flavor is whatever chef whips up! Buttery, salty and so good with their bread! The butter is also piped onto a tiny shell that just seals the deal for a great appetizer experience. Oh, and we did order a bowl of French onion soup too! It was great, I just can’t get over how good the escargot was! For dinner we had the special lobster entree and another pasta dish! The menu changes often so no point in getting into the details of our entree other than to say it was delicious! I cannot imagine ordering anything bad off of their menu! We are dessert lovers and were convinced to order their chocolate mousse simply because we saw several other tables ordering it! We also paired our chocolate mousse with a port, another success. All in all, the dinner and experience was unlike anything we’ve had in downtown Boise. I’m serious Barbacoa, Chandlers and Ruths Chris, sorry but they have you beat! If you’re going to eat this good of food, expect to wait. They are busy with few people on staff so be patient and enjoy the atmosphere! I cannot recommend this place enough, an absolute must!
Amazing food and atmosphere. Would definitely go here again! The escargot with bread was so good, and the salmon was some of the best salmon I've had!
Great first impressions and experience. Southern French cuisine. Great food, great service, great atmosphere. We had live music, soft jazz/pop hits. Ordered the French soup and veal piccata. No hard cocktails, but nice wine selection (and tasting) and some beers.
A true 5 star experience. This isn't simply a five star rating from me, this place, which I have written about before continues to impress. The escargot and baked camenbert are can't miss. Probably the best escargot I have had in memory. The signature seafood pasta was delightful and massive. Impressive wine selection, great in house baked bread, and steaks that are just outrageously good. Combine this with a classy but not overwhelming atmosphere and stellar service, this place is a French food destination that elevates the Treasure Valley in an important way. This is not cheap by any means but the quality, care, and ingredients make it a bargain for what you recieve. Reservations are probably wise, especially ok weekends. Excellent parking in a quiet area also makes it a stress free dining destination. Expect to order your entire meal including appetizers at once and have it paced for you, this is a place for a leisurely relaxing dinner designed to be an experience. Keep up the great work Bacquet's
Fantastic dinner with the owner recommending a wonderful Saint-Estephe pairing with my duck. Presentation was fantastic with the escargot being a table favorite. If you are looking for higher end French I would recommend this in a pinch. One small note, a lot of the dishes came under salted as the kitchen appears to be sensitive to people who get overwhelmed by a proper salt level? Just ask for salt, do not let it ruin your your dinner :)
Hands down the best food in town!! The service was amazing and the food was very fresh. I didn't really know you could put that much flavor in one dish. We had the seafood pasta and the salmon champenoise. Just when we were falling out of our chairs after being sent to heaven, we ordered the bread pudding and chocolate mousse. The bread pudding is on a level unfathomable to basic human reality. I swear it sent us back to earth, then into heaven again and past that into another realm of being. I have reached nirvana. Will definitely be back.
Absolutely amazing. My veteran grandpa was recently egged by a bunch of teenagers. The owner reached out offering a meal for him. Neither of us had ever been. The staff and the owners are incredible. So friendly and just make it so you can enjoy your meal. The food was outstanding. I’ve traveled Europe a lot and have never found anything in the states that reminds me of European dinning until this place. You’re not rushed, meals are definitely cooked with love. Our family will for sure be back and spreading the word about this place. If you haven’t been i recommend you give it a try. On another note to the owners: THANK YOU! My grandpa is very quiet he’s the type who likes to soak it all in but this meant so much to him. Made him feel very special. Sometimes it’s hard to get him out of the house as much as we would like and this made his night. Owners who care about our community are so important. I loved getting to meet you Michele!
We really enjoyed our Coulotte Steak and Prawns. The dinner salad, bread, and scallop potatoes were over the top delicious as well. Our Server Kimberly told us that Tuesday's and Thursday's they have live music! They also serve Prime Rib on Thursdays. It was really a fun place to dine.
This is an update to my previous review. Last night we went back with a party of 5 and it was even better than our previous visits! The Seafood pasta was amazing. The duck l'orange and the salmon were equally delicious. Everything was cooked to perfection! ---------- Spectacular restaurant for dinner. The Seafood pasta is incredible! Be sure to try the bread pudding for dessert. Excellent service and the chef comes out periodically to chat. I've eaten there twice and will go back.
Beautiful atmosphere! You don't need to leave the country to visit France when you are here! The food is delicious and the side bread is amazing. The fresh cream whipped butter comes out on a cute seashell!💖 the chocolate mousse was smooth and perfect!
What a pleasant surprise Bacquet's was! My wife and I went with another couple and spent about two hours in awe of the food and memories of old fine dining in Boise. We tried three dishes, salmon, pork, and beef stroganoff. All were beyond reproach. The flavors melding together in our mouths create absolute bliss. The pork glaze with butter and gorganzola was so full of delicate flavors, all in co cert with each other. The beef stroganoff had kobe beef, the most tender of delicate flat noodles, and enough for lunch the next day. The salmon paired with saffron rice was an absolute delight. The French onion soup is without comparison in the treasure valley We will definitely return.
Bacquet's has the best French food in the Boise Valley, and for that matter, some of the best food hands down. I always recommend you go with the special. My two favorite starters are the escargot and French Onion Soup. Do not pass up the chance to visit the wine selection, as they have unique wines you will not find anywhere else in the valley.
There are so many beautiful things I could say about Bacquet’s. The cuisine is fresh, presentation lovely, unique menu, generous portions, authentic French at its finest and just YUMMY and fun! Location, staff, entertainment, fine wines, and beyond everything the owners chef Franck and his lovely wife, Michele are extremely welcoming and real.
Talk about a chef & restaurant staff who truly understand what it takes to put together a truly fine dining experience. Bravo Franck! You truly are a world class chef. Bar none, one of the best meals I've ever had at any restaurant. And thank you Selene for your awesome service & warm hospitality. You guys gave us a great start to our stay in Eagle.
My hubby took me to Bacquet's for an early Mother's Day Lunch. The food was yummy and the staff was friendly. My hubby had duck and it melted in your month. The wine was lovely and our desert was fantastic.
Bacquet’s is indisputably one of the Treasure Valley’s finer restaurants. Our area falls so short on high-end eateries. The lengths Bacquet’s goes to deliver exquisite cuisine in an upscale fashion is not only appreciated but respected. Let’s get down to business: My husband and I began our luxurious evening with a bottle of 2016 Chateau Blaignan Médoc ($48.00 a bottle, 55% Cabernet Sauvignon & 45% Merlot). I’ve only recently jumped on the Red Blend bandwagon (YES that’s a thing), so my judgement is soft for now. But I can say I did enjoy each sip and the extra bite of flavor it provided. For appetizers, my husband ordered the French Onion Soup ($15.00). The menu accurately describes it as the “best you have never had in your life.” The soup itself came covered by a thick layer of cheese that delivered an oh-so-freaking-satisfying cheese pulls. The taste was fantastic! A lot of flavor but not too onion-y. By far, best version of this soup I have ever had in my life. My adventurous self ordered the Escargot de ma Grand-Mere ($15.00), a Bacquet family recipe. Who knew snails could be so delectable! These were every bit as good as Escargot I’ve eaten in France and Germany. Truly authentic and a treat you can find this here in Boise. Moving along, we were getting full so agreed to share the Jambalaya (large black tiger prawns, andouille sausage, chicken, fresh vegetables sautéed in a deep, rich sauce with a piece of creole spices. Served with a blend of basmati and wild rice, $34.50). This dish fell a little short of my liking. I really haven’t eaten much Creole food so I don’t feel qualified to criticize it, but this just wasn’t for me. There wasn’t a lot of flavor, a couple drops of hot sauce could have amplified it. I personally would not order this dish again, however I wouldn’t NOT recommend it because to the more experienced tongue this might be it! Their menu is full of other delicious European dishes. Also, someone remind me to go easy with the appetizers because I really wanted to try some dessert but was way to stuffed. Our total before tipping came too $115.00. If you know fine dining, then you agree is a hell of a deal for a high-end experience. Not to mention the white-glove service is on point! Neither of us had to refill our own glasses of wine. Wonderful servers with fantastic training. Thank you Bacquet’s for bringing fine-dining to the Treasure Valley! I will repeat that you have my full appreciation and respect for the outstanding food, service and atmosphere. Can’t wait to be back!
Bacquet’s ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ On 1/8/21, I and MW had dinner at Bacquet’s in Eagle. For four hours, I felt as if I had been transported to France. It was a much needed respite from the past 10 months and left me feeling rejuvenated. As much as I love dining out, I’ve only had a handful of truly memorable meals. This was one of them. Everything about the evening, from the ambience/decor, to the food and service, was perfection. I ordered French Onion Soup ($15), House Green Salad ($8.50), and Saint Jacques au Saffron ($34.50). MW ordered a House Green Salad and Pork Gorgonzola ($29.50). We shared two desserts. I ordered Apple Tart For Two ($14.50); MW ordered Tuxedo Cake. I also ordered a Cherry Clafoutis ($8.50) to go. Bacquet’s French Onion soup lives up to its description “The best you have never had in your life.” It was worth every penny. I can’t imagine ever visiting this restaurant and not ordering it. The House Salad was dressed with a balsamic vinaigrette. I don’t normally care much for vinaigrettes but this one was exceptional. It is the best version of that salad dressing I’ve ever had. Saint Jacques au Saffron - four sea scallops, baked in the shell au gratin style, with a creamy saffron sauce and crusted Parmesan cheese. Served with a blended basmati and wild rice. I’ve always been on the fence about scallops. For such an expensive ingredient. they seemed bland and inconsequential. Not these. The delicious saffron sauce with a squeeze of lemon made this dish. Pork Gorgonzola- Pork tenderloin medallions, panseared and served with a divinely silky port wine and Gorgonzola blue cheese sauce. Served with roasted vegetables and baby potatoes. I tried a bite of this dish and it was delicious. Perfectly cooked and the sauce was amazing. Tuxedo Cake - white cake with layers of chocolate and white chocolate mousse, topped with chocolate ganache. This was a great cake. It wasn’t too heavy and I liked that it was not overly sweet. Apple Tart - pastry with a custard and apple filling. This version was topped with vanilla ice cream and drizzled with caramel. Simply put, this is the best apple dessert I’ve ever had. Cherry Clafoutis - cherries baked in a custard like base. This version was inside of puff pastry. Normally, I’m not a big dessert girl but I ordered it because I’ve never seen it on a menu before, and it’s something I have always wanted to try. I’ve had a recipe for it on my refrigerator door for close to a year, but nobody to make it for. I didn’t care for this version. I would like it better if it was not baked inside of puff pastry and was a slice from a regular size Clafoutis, instead of a miniature one. This version is so shallow that it doesn’t really do justice to the custard like base. Bacquet’s does not have a wine list or sell it by the glass. Instead, they have a wine room of carefully curated bottles they invite you to visit, where they help you select a bottle perfectly suited for your taste and meal. I don’t normally drink, so the experience of ordering wine in a restaurant was new to me. I purchased a bottle of Saracco Moscato d’ Asti. It was lovely. MW purchased a bottle of Bouchard Pere & Fils Reserve Bourgogne Pinot Noir. I don’t normally comment on the ambience of a restaurant because ultimately what I’m most interested in is the food. Visiting Bacquet’s is simultaneously a very refined yet relaxed experience. You can dress up if you want, but it is not necessary. What is most important to the owners and staff is that you have a wonderful dining experience, and they go to great lengths to ensure that outcome. If you enjoy art, you’re in for a treat because it is all around you. Owner/Chef Franck Bacquet is an artist. His work, including the murals, graces the walls. Bacquet’s menu changes periodically, which is a plus in my book. The restaurant is open Tuesday through Sunday from 11:30 AM to 8 PM. They are for takeout and weekly meal specials. Highly Recommended!!!
Our family celebrated our moms 80th birthday on Saturday, 2/7/26 with a "Breakfast at Tiffanys" themed "brunch at Bacquets" in the annex more private room, and it was fantastique! Their attention to detail, help with set up, beautiful atmosphere and delicious food was everything. We love Bacquets for special occasions and when we want to enjoy a fabulous meal and quality time together to linger. This is fine dining, not a sports bar, no tv's. I worked with the owners planning the menu and they suggested the beverage and dessert. We were able to bring in our own family musicians and decor to have a truly elevated experience. This birthday was so incredibly special and will be in all my families memories for years to come. Bon Appetit! P.S. You have try the prime rib-usually on Thursday nights!
What a cool little place! We were well taken care of and the staff is obviously incredibly knowledgeable in everything. Definitely a cozy place to enjoy delicious food. I’d absolutely take out of town guests here given the atmosphere. A fantastic little spot that give an intimate and homey feeling. We will be back.
NC girl who tried while visiting. I went to France a few months after eating here and this is still my all time favorite French restaurant- not kidding! The chef and his wife are wonderful hosts and will help you pair a perfect bottle of wine. I legitimately tell everyone I can about this place- run don’t walk!
An absolutely fantastic experience from start to finish. The food was magnificent, and the wine selection was excellent. I really appreciated the relaxed European pace of the meal—we never felt rushed at all. The service was attentive and the atmosphere was cozy and authentic. A true gem in the area
The ambiance and pace at which food is served invites you to linger for a special meal. You can even split dishes so everyone can try a bite on their own plate.
Best food ever! We came here for our 20 year anniversary and I’m so glad we did! Will come again more often! And for lunch too! The French onion soup really is the best! The wait staff was really friendly, provided wonderful service and…we got the back part of the dining room all to ourselves! We may have spent a few moments dancing in between courses too! Perfect ambiance! Can’t recommend this place enough!
Exceptional Restaurant! In my opinion, most restaurants aren't very good... Bacquets is exceptional! The food, service, and atmosphere is top notch! We had Steak Tartare for an appetizer, Veal Piccata (a recommendation that wasn't on the menu), and the duck (canard), with Croissant Bread Pudding for dessert. Everything was delicious and perfectly cooked! We enjoyed viewing their wine library, and the live jazz music was a great touch! Thanks for the great experience!
We went on a Wednesday night. Not very busy and the servicers were very attentive. The food was delicious. I would recommend this place.
As always, an absolutely divine experience with courteous, professional, and conscientious staff. They are immensely personable and make you feel at home. The food is over the top excellent and each dish is presented elegantly and the flavor compares to no other. Tonight we enjoyed the escargot, seafood flatbread, and veal piccata. Each dish was exploding with flavor!!! We finished our evening with a lovers cake… Complete with coffee and hazelnut… Wow! Beyond the food we thoroughly enjoy the relaxed and romantic atmosphere and the attentiveness of not only the staff, but the chefs wife, Michelle… You feel like you are dining in their own home. Thank you for always welcoming us!!!
Second time is even better than the first! 🥰 we love this place! The food is amazing, the atmosphere is quiet and peaceful, and the French ambiance is sublime! Franc and Michelle are the best! ❤️
Best dinner in Boise! (Eagle) We were blown away... Every dish we tried was perfect. Handmade from scratch. Service was wonderful and the atmosphere was so comfortable and fun. My wife and I love good food, but we don't want the typical chain or franchise. Bacquet's delivers in every aspect, and Christian, our waiter, was friendly and helpful. He had very thoughtful recommendations for our food and wine choices. Thank you for a wonderful dining experience. This is what a night out with my wife should be. We can't wait to go back... I'm already making my menu plans for next time!
Our favorite place when comes to French food, good vibes overall. Great wine selection, friendly owner and staffs. We always order escargot and like to try their special of the day. Photos are from our couple visits. I like to go there in the summer where we can bring our dog to enjoy the food and live music.
I LOVE this place!! It has been my favorite restaurant they first opened in The Boise Town Square Mall!! When we lived in Boise we would eat here every couple of months. I brought many family members and friends here and everyone loved it. We moved away ten years ago and hadn’t eaten since then until recently. I surprised my husband with a trip back to Boise and dinner at Bacquet’s for his birthday!! Everything was just as delicious as I remembered it. He has since moved, changed his decor and hired new staff but the food has not changed!! I love that it sees itself as a full on European style restaurant. The table is yours for the evening, they don’t rush you, they won’t start clearing the table until everyone is finished, they help with food and wine selections and they won’t bring the check until you ask for it!! Love and miss you, Chef Franck!!
Wow, the drag brunch was the best experience ever! Our first time trying Bacquet's, had no idea what to expect. The staff was incredibly welcoming and indicated how to use the buffet. It looked unassuming, but oh my, the food was seriously out of this world. We got there 30 minutes before the performances so we had plenty of time to get two plates of food, a couple mimosas, and coffee before enjoying some super fun and talented drag performances. This is such an important art form to preserve and protect within our community, and I'm so grateful they choose to do these drag brunches. It can be a bit spendy, it came out to about $200, that includes tips for the drag queens which is very important to factor in, make sure you come with cash tips! I personally thought it was extremely worthwhile and we will definitely be attending more in the future!
Best French Cuisine I have had in a long time. ! The food, French, was amazing: the coquilles St Jacques were so good , I had the canard à l’orange, my husband had veal scaloppini both equally delicious ! Desert and salad were just as impressive in their simplicity. This was our first time here and won’t be the last ! Small intimate perfect little restaurant !
Franck and his crew are gracious and talented. For us, he advanced dinner time by one hour so that we could select items from the dinner menu. The escargot, French onion soup, steak, and crème brûlée are magnificent. Further exploration is needed.
Friendly service, great food, nice atmosphere, perfect for special occasions. I ordered the Canard l'orange, and my wife ordered Quiche Lorraine. Both were delicious.
Absolutely wonderful experience! We enjoyed everything. The food was superb, the staff very accommodating and attentive. Elegant, but relaxed and enjoyable. Amazing wine. We really can’t say enough good things. We drove 2 hours to get here and it was totally worth it.
My first visit to this gem of a restaurant, and I wasn't disappointed. Everything from the atmosphere, service and exceptional food was impressive. I will definitely be coming back!
This was hands down the best dinner experience. We went for Valentine’s Day dinner, and the staff went out of their way to make us feel comfortable and welcome. We had escargot and received a demo (much needed), and enjoyed the most amazing meal. The crème brûlée was DELICIOUS, light creamy, and the best we have ever had. Michelle and Frank create an incredible restaurant atmosphere, and our server was phenomenal. They have a wine tasting station in the back of the restaurant, and it feels very elegant. Cannot recommend this place enough.
This is my number one recommendation for best restaurants in the valley! It really is that good. The menu is often changing depending on what's fresh and in season, or whatever chef is in the mood for. The French Onion Soup is amazing, sometimes I go just for that when I want to have a lighter meal than a full entree. Creme brulee was amazing. Every entree I've had here is great. Even the to-go lasagna that is occasionally offered is worth every penny! I'm so glad this place is here for delicious European foods that that are not "too fancy", good portions, with an accessible atmosphere of fine dining.
Went here on Valentines Day and it was wonderful! The service was great and the staff was kind and very knowledgeable in wine pairings. The food was absolutely delicious! It is on the pricey side but I think it was worth it!
This place is amazing. Both times we have been here, everything has been tres magnifique. From the bread...to the soup...to the entree, this man knows how to cook. To see the chef, waitress, and hostess all working together to make our eating experience so perfect was awesome. They were all so affable. We are looking forward to coming in next Thursday for prime rib night. Keep doing what you are doing!
Superb Dining Experience!! What a shocking surprise. I have traveled the world seeking out amazing dining experiences, including France, and Bacquets is a very Special experience! How did I miss this place for so long?!?! Chef Franck is the real deal. A classically trained French chef that has put his artistry into his food. His duck and lamb dishes are as good as gets! The onion soup was incredible! The attention to deal throughout our entire experience was award winning. The plating, the wine pairing and the french press coffee to finish our meal, was picture perfect. Not to mention the original paintings and art done by Chef, that adorn the walls of the restaurant!! Bon appétit!
My husband and I loved Bacquet's. Lovely restaurant, amazing and attentive staff, and an abundance of delicious French cuisine. My only complaint, I didn't save room for dessert... But, this gives us a reason to come back. Desserts are not listed on menus, but if you call they can list them for you which change seasonally I believe. Visiting Bacquet's saved me air fair, jet lag and I felt like I could be in the French countryside. One more thing, we enjoyed the quaint and quieter dinning experience. The evening we were there, we were entertained by light easy style piano music. We dinned in doors but there is a beautiful patio had a fountain and gorgeous flowers if you choose to dine outside. Oh, one more thing come to relax...it is a leisure dinning experience. You feel like each dish is prepared just for you. Bon appetite!
Definitely an experience to eat here, I recommend going for a date night. The food was really rich and a little overwhelming for us. Don't get me wrong it's delicious but we aren't used to eating French cuisine so maybe that's why we found it rich. The staff was amazing and able to explain each dish to us perfectly.
Food was wonderful. Have plenty of time. We ordered everything at once. It definitely was not a quick turn around on food delivery. While I appreciate food is made as it’s ordered, I feel like it could have come out sooner than it did. Also, our server had too many tables to herself which contributed to the length of our wait.
We have eaten at Bacquets many times and love their regular menu items. Large quantities, excellent service and superb food quality. Over the last year we have tried the Tuesday/Wednesday specials and have been less impressed with those offerings. While the value of meals is good, the quality is normally average. We think of Bacquets as a great high end option in Eagle and will continue to dine there ordering from the regular menu. We will not be doing the Tues/Wed specials in the future. There are lots of options for average in the area.
Bacquet's has been on my to go list for a long time. My cousin wanted to celebrate her birthday here so it's finally my time to try it out! Our reservation was at 6:30. I showed up first and was sat at our table that was beautifully set. After everyone showed up, we got to looking over the menu. Everything on the menu looked good. I'm not a big protein eater so my options were quite limited. What I did see that I could have was the ratatouille pasta. I did notice on their lunch menu that they offer a couple salads. It would have been nice to have that option for dinner. After orders were placed, we enjoyed the fresh bread and butter. There was a live band playing in the background which created such a nice vibe to the place. The bread was fabulous! It was warm, crusty on the outside and so soft in the middle. The butter that was paired with the bread was delicious! So soft and salty. It was hard not to over butter the bread, it was the perfect vessel for the butter. I did order the soup de jour to start. It's a black truffle cream of asparagus soup. First glance at the soup, it looked creamy and rich. The croutons on top were perfectly golden. After a couple bites, rich is how I would describe this soup. It was savory and thick. The croutons added a nice texture to the soup. I was able to eat about half. It honestly was too rich. And then you add the buttery croutons, it was overwhelming. It would have have nice to have small pieces of asparagus to help with the texture and less croutons. Dinner took a while to come out. My pasta was prettily plated in a big pasta bowl. You can see the papperdelle pasta covered in the sauce. The pieces of zucchini, egg plant and bell pepper were delicately diced. The papperdelle was cooked nicely. The sauce was hearty from the veggies. The sauce also had a nice heat to it. It could have used a hair more salt to the dish. It would have been nice to have salt and pepper at the table but non was available. As hearty as the sauce was, it was underwhelming in flavor. We did end dinner with some bread pudding and creme brulee. Both were devine! The bread pudding was hot and sweet. You can tell that it came straight out the oven. The creme brulee was creamy. The sugar crust added a nice bitter element to the custard. Both were beautifully presented. I think I would have enjoyed this experience if we didn't have such long wait times for everything. It took us 3 hours from start to finish. Long wait time for our starters, for dinner and then for dessert. The bread and butter as fantastic. The soup was overwhelmingly rich. The pasta needed more seasoning. It was a neat experience with the live music and ambiance of the venue but the food was just ok for me.
This tends to be a favorite of our family. I went because of the wonderful reviews it got. I enjoyed it but frankly didn't see what all the hype was about. The movement around the restaurant is clumsy and hard for disabled. Loved the fish tank and the fish outside. Very much enjoyed the company. Food was between good and great. On several occasions we've called ahead and were happy that we did because they were out of the highlights (halibut cheeks and the like). After multiple weeks of putting off the trip we decided we'd have to settle for whatever they had that night. I'd love to say I was blown away by a fabulous experience but frankly I was not. When it's $100+ per person the chairs should be comfortable, the wait staff exceptional, the wine selection amazing and a sommelier at the ready. Honestly I cringed every time a server came around a corner thinking they would be in a collision with another server. Maybe it was just the room I was seated in, not sure. Things went well, mom was happy, but I was disappointed. Nothing special. The saving grace is the food was really good. Not GREAT but really good. Servers are slow but kind and you can expect to spend 2 hours minimum for a meal. I think we clocked in at 2:50 or so. In true Ada county fashion the acoustics and ambiance was industrial with random art. I enjoyed the art but not hearing every detail of the conversation 3 tables away. Ultimately overpriced for a Meh experience and decently consistent food.
Perhaps, unlike other's experience, our experience for Friday dinner (3 guests) was very disappointing overall. Prices were acceptable, staff was young and unsophisticated. No wine list was available. Basically a neighborhood strip-center store front. While our orders we uncomplicated, our food took over 90 minutes (with no offer of an explanation, and a minimal apology when questioned). We literally observed 2 other tables get seated, order, served, and departed. Food was average at best. The french onion soup was a huge failure without the tradition blanket of melted cheese (instead some sprinkle of cheese on a floating crostini...NOT what was expected for authentic french food). No need for us to give them a second chance after a nasty public reply to our OpenTable review. They showed no sense/humility of regret or sincerity.... Only agrogance and defensiveness.
Hmmm. I have read all the negative reviews and have seen how the chef’s wife has replied to all of those people. Hmmmmm. Well, let me start here. I have been in the service industry (retail & restaurant) for over 30 years and I would NOT have handled those complaints in such an unprofessional manner. Remember it only takes one bad apple to spoil a whole bunch. In other words…if you have one happy customer, they might tell a person or two about your restaurant, but one upset customer is going tell quite a few others. Ask yourself this, “Has business dropped in sales?”(dollar-wise, of course). Is the chef’s wife stressed out or unhappy? Is she uptight or uncomfortable about the poster in the gentlemen’s room? I went to Bacquet’s for the first time to celebrate a birthday and my daughter went home crying. I’ll spare everyone the details because I already know the type of response I’m going to get from the chef’s wife. I have traveled all over France and visited Paris many times. So yes I have eaten at MANY different restaurants. I have even been invited to a private movie showing by the producers and all. I have also given tours of Paris and was featured in a music video. I know French culture and I say all this to establish myself as a qualified reviewer. I’m also NOT some cheapskate looking for a free meal. I’m in GREAT shape financially and have been retired since the age of 50, so no…I’m not a free meal seeker, but I do expect superb service when I dine at any place that presents itself as a fine establishment, whether it’s here in the US, France or wherever. I would never pay those prices and not expect excellent service. The food was good and so was the selection. So my compliment to the chef. Although I do understand that this area must be a tough crowd for French food and therefore some things may be a little “Americanized”. Overall, my family and I enjoyed the food, but like I mentioned earlier, my daughter went home crying. This restaurant did not meet my expectations in terms of service and atmosphere. Why? I had the waiter speak with the chef’s wife (the owner) regarding a small problem… and the response I got was belittling. I’m a top reviewer on Google, so this is not good Mrs. Bacquet
Bacquets has been on my wishlist for some time. This year, my husband made reservations one full month in advance for my birthday. He specifically chose a night when the prix fixe menu is offered, asked the receptionist specifically for this option. (We are currently purchasing a home and watching our optional spending, but still wanted a special evening out.) When we arrived, the hostess informed us that normally the prix fixe menu is offered but for tonight only it was not, due to the holidays. This would have been acceptable if they had called my husband's number from the reservation to inform him of this change. When we asked, the restaurant did not offer any alternatives to us other than choosing to split an entree - not exactly the special birthday dinner option I had been hoping for, as my husband and I have different tastes. Embarrassed, we considered staying but decided to stick with our house-purchase budget and left the restaurant. For a restaurant of this reputation and caliber, we expected better service to correct this situation. There are myriad other restaurants we could have chosen to dine for my birthday. (Alyonka's being a regular favorite of ours.) We will not be returning to Bacquets to offer our business in the future.
