Excellent Spanish food. Very much with a home-cooked, authentic feel unlike the tapas chain restaurants. Cosy feel inside. Paella was delicious and well worth the extra wait for preparation if you have the time. Friendly and efficient staff. Highly recommended and probably the best Spanish food in Edinburgh.
The atmosphere here is vibrant but not overwhelming. You can feel the energy of the place, yet still have a comfortable conversation. The sushi platter we ordered was beautifully presented and tasted incredibly fresh. Every piece seemed made with care and precision. The staff was knowledgeable and happy to explain the ingredients. Definitely one of the best Japanese restaurants I’ve been to
We dined here as a family of 6 for a birthday last night. The service was warm and friendly andthe food was exceptional. We ordered alot of different tapas dishes and the seafood paella to share and it was all fantastic. The fried cod and the pork cheeks were my two favourites. All 6 of us were very impressed and would definitely return on future visits to Edinburgh
The most incredible Spanish food in Edinburgh. Strongly recommend reserving a table and do not try to get a walk in at Dinner - the staff were turning away people every time. If you do a get a table though - The food was so good. The carrillada cannot be missed - it is melt in your mouth delicious while the seafood paella was so flavourful. The sweet spot is one big or two small tapas, followed by a paella, if you still want room for a dessert.
Loved this authentic Spanish Tapas restaurant. Arrived as walk-ins on a Thursday evening after perusal of a few other eateries close to our Hotel. Had the cod dish, aubergine, potato and egg and goats cheese salad. All very tasty and good size portions for tapas. Wine was excellent value, and service was exemplary with friendly staff. Numerous gluten free options for my wife who is coeliac. Pricing is very reasonable for food of this quality. Would go back again when next in Edinburgh.
Having lived in Spain for most of my life. I can honestly say the food here is as close as you can get, from what I have tried so far, to Spanish tapas. Their choice in black pudding from Burgos was fab to see! I believe it's the best black pudding in the world! Chistorras, Albóndigas & Patatas Alioli and Bravas were also very good. Overall the food and service was good. Was also friendly and it felt like a Spanish place. Looking forward to coming back here again! Muchas gracias a todos! La comida está buenísima! Hasta la próxima.🙏🏻
My favourite Spanish restaurant in Edinburgh so far, opposite to the Edinburgh Playhouse which makes it a great spot for pre-show dinner. We had several tapas and all were great. I loved the octopus which was really tender and flavourful, and was impressed with the tortilla served runny. All tapas were reasonably priced in good portions. Nice Basque burnt cheesecake for desserts, though the churros were not in the finest texture. And the sangria was the best one we have had in Edinburgh.
Fantastic place to get authentic Spanish tapas. The restaurant is well set out with plenty of space between the tables. Although we had booked for a specific time, the server gave us our table earlier than booked. The menu wasn't the largest tapas menu we have had (compared to other larger tapas restaurants we had visited in Edinburgh), but there was still plenty to choose from. We had bread with olive oil and a vinegaret along with grated tomatoes as a starter. Our mains were meatballs, black pudding, patatas bravas, croquettes, chorizo, and potatoes, and to follow, we had churros with chocolate. All the food that was served was really tasty and all were finished off, clean plates all round. The churros were the best I've had. They were delicious. The server was polite, prompt, and well presented. He recommended a very nice drink for us to try, which was delicious. It was called Pacharáw Navarro by Zoco. It has a nice delicate aniseed taste to it, served with a dash of lemonade and ice. The toilets, downstairs, were clean and tidy.
One of the best places to have a proper Spanish food and taste, I had a delicious dinner with a group of friends. We asked for a Paella Carne , Seafood Paella, patatas bravas, churros , cheese cake and everything meets our expectations and more. The time of food preparation wasn’t longer and we were served by a friendly waitress. The chef Chio is the star of the restaurant, she’s absolutely great, the best chef so far. We had a booking already so our table was ready prepared in advance, I liked very much the atmosphere and the music. Highly recommended to go there and try the best Spanish tapas. #lasal #spanishrestaurant #lasaledinburgh #deliciousmeals #spanishtapas
Impressed by this tapas place! We ordered Carrillada Ibérica (stellar pork), Patatas Bravas (bit of spice), Pastel De Berenjena (lovely veg), and Croquetas (creamy). All of it was very tasty and served quickly. We threw a few too many potatoes in the mix (oops) but appreciated each plate all the same. Great dining experience.
Had a wonderful dinner at La Sal: calamares, boquerones, gambas, pulpo, albondigas, and churros. Definitely a must-try for Spanish tapas.
Relaxed, friendly, delicious food, wine at a reasonable price, busy yet attentive staff…a favourite now! Great pre theatre venue ( opposite Playhouse). 3rd visit- Will return 🙂
Stumbled across this wonderful restaurant round the corner from our hotel on a short break to Edinburgh. The small tapas plates were wonderful, particularly the aubergine dish which I have never come across before. The food tasted superb and was presented beautifully. The staff were great, friendly and informative with excellent service. Add that this is right in the middle of a tourist city and it was great value for money too Sorry no food photos we enjoyed eating it too much to remember
Absolutely loved this place! 🇪🇸❤️ Hands down the most authentic and delicious Spanish restaurant in Edinburgh. The calamari was super tender and tasty, and the sauce was something special! The seafood paella is a must-try — flavorful, rich, and perfectly cooked every single time. The sangria was light, fruity, and had a lovely hint of cinnamon — more like a sweet fruit punch than a heavy drink. The staff were incredibly friendly and even offered us complimentary Baileys chocolate shots, which was such a nice surprise! Amazing food, warm vibes, great prices — can’t recommend it enough! ✨
For Easter lunch, I chose this venue to have lunch with my friend who is coeliac (thus can only eat gluten-free foods). Our veggie paella was fabulous, no complaints to point out. The menu is varied, and contains accurate information on allergens. I thoroughly recommend this place for any sort of occasion.
We went there to celebrate my daughter’s birthday and the food was fantastic. The tapas are the best in Edinburgh and truly Spanish. The calamares and croquetas were our favourite. The waitress was amazing and at the end she brought cake with icecream for my daughter for free. I would recommend and we will be back.
Lovely food, the octopus was particularly delicious. Service was mostly great albeit did have to ask for the bill twice despite it not being particularly busy.
Incredible location and service. Very authentic Spanish Tapas. Food was delicious. The Seafood Paella was something special. Free complimentary dessert as it was my birthday.
This is our favourite Spanish restaurant in Edinburgh. Decent portions, home food tastes and super friendly staff. The Spanish wine selection and sangria was amazing too!
Hidden gem right across the street from a beautiful bookstore. The paella was fantastic 10/10, and the tapas were all simple and delicious.
Small, quite and nice place. The staff is really nice and friendly. It feels like being at home. Good spanish food. My spanish boyfriend and I went there more than once
Best sangria in town and amazing Spanish food. Such a beautiful restaurant with wonderful staff. Can't wait to return!
The food was incredible, the staff fantastic!
After traveling for 2 great weeks in July Scotland, we had our final dinner in La Sal. It was ranked #1 by far, by all four of us. Great service, great Tapas’, excellent taste. Highly recommend.
Lovely little Spanish restaurant, with staff that couldn't be more helpful. I would definitely return.
For me one of the best spanish places in Edinburgh (and I am spanish). Patatas alioli was lovely and paella as well. Good service and fast! I will come back to try the rest of the menu for sure
Best Spanish restaurant in Edinburgh. All experiences were great. The best thing is cost effectiveness!
We walked in and had a very tasty combination of seafood paella and tapas. I can recommend in particular the pork cheek, the chorizo and the paella dish - all was enjoyed by us and the kids.
We ate here after a show at the Playhouse on a recommendation from a family member that lives in Edinburgh. The restaurant is spacious and light and the service is superb. Our waiter Gabriella was so patient with us (5 chatty females who hadn't seen one and other for a while) The menu had lots to choose from and on the whole the food was good, although the calamari wasn't great and although we ordered the tortilla medium it was a wee bit dry. The pork cheeks though were outstanding as was the paella. All of the portions were a really good size and great value for money, as was the wine. This restaurant could really cash in on its locality to the theatre but it absolutely doesn't. It also doesn't include the service charge as standard which is another absolute bonus in my eyes and the service was outstanding! This is an absolute gem of a restaurant in the current climate of excessive overcharging by most other restaurants. A definite worthwhile visit ✨️
My husband picked up takeout from here during our 3 day trip to Edinburgh. We love tapas and have had it in various cities. The food here is outstanding. Patatas bravas were delicious, aubergine dish I could happily drown in, prawns were delightful. As was the cod. My husband loved the meatballs. But best of all were the churros. Possibly the best I’ve ever had (and no, I’ve not been paid for the review 😂). The service was great too. The manager leant us some cutlery as we didn’t have any in the hotel. The question is now whether we have churros again before we leave town…
Delicious food in a perfect location for The Playhouse. Generous portions too which suits a hungry horse like me. Goat cheese salad, croquettes and the chorizo were just some of the dishes that I scoffed appreciatively. Bright surroundings; can't wait to go back.
Epic dinner with my family sharing 12 different plates among 6 of us. Wine was great, service was great - zero complaints. Check this place out for Spanish Tapas if you’re in Edinburgh
I had always walked past here but had never gone in. We went on Friday night and it was a nice level of busy. There was 4 of us and we ordered around 12 tapas as in a lot of other places we’d get three each however our server recommended we should get 8-10 for four people. I think it would be helpful to have this on the menu as a guide as a lot of other places do this. We still ordered the 12 as we wanted to try lots of the dishes. There was a good mix of meat, fish and vegetable dishes. My favourites were the ham croquettes, the spanish tortilla and the patatas aioli. However we also had the chicken thigh, calamari, black pudding, patatas bravas, padron peppers amongst a few other dishes. The food was really good and quite reasonable as tapas can be expensive. I have given it a four as I have had tapas in other places that I have enjoyed more but it was a lovely meal out.
Stopped by for dinner three days ago. The staff were friendly and engaging, and our waiter recommended the gambas, so we ordered that along with a slice of Basque burnt cheesecake. The cheesecake was excellent and addictive, though the berries were a bit too sugary—maybe a chocolate alternative would work better. The gambas was really good, with fresh-tasting prawns and just the right amount of spice. Cosy ambience and great service overall. A solid spot for dinner!
Been there twice. The food is really authentic and close to what we’ve had in Barcelona, especially the paella! The restaurant is smaller but with nice decorations.
We dined here before an evening show at the fringe. We had heard good things. The service and staff were really good. Although we did notice that some staff were super friendly and others were not as mush. The menu is quite small but still good choices. We went for a few smaller dishes. We thought the potatoes were nice but the garlic sauce on top was overpowering and, actually, too garlicky. The other dishes were not bad but nothing was very tasty. The value was reasonable. And the staff were on spot on.
We ordered paella and didn't want to drink wine. The owner were not happy that we don't drink, and we didn't order starters. We felt pressured by their attitude. So we tried to ignore them and eat our paella when it was served. We sat for awhile after our meal, and was once again felt the pressure that we should be leaving soon since we weren't ordering any dessert. We finally left. Unfortunately I left my Starbucks bag filled with brownies and cookies and croissants. When I returned to pick it up the next day, the woman owner said she has thrown that away because it's food in there. Could I really justify them throwing my brownies and cookies away???? Never ever again in this place.
Showed up with 5 people around 7 p.m. Walked in and restaurant was relatively free with plenty of space. A lady came out and asked if we had a reservation which we did not (From Google there was no way to reserve a table). She gives us a mean look alongside a groan and left us for 2 minutes to serve customers. Afterwards she came back and asked us how many. We told her 5 and she groaned again and said no and told us to leave. Would not recommend
