Out from Canada this Christmas. Great pub. Good cold beers!
What a lovely genuine old pub, the real thing! I ordered a jacket potato with prawns marie rose, and it was fabulous! The potato skin delectably crispy, the serving very generous, and two salads accompanying equally delicious. The servers were charming. Altogether a memorable moment here, having come all the way from Canada for an authentic English country pub experience.
Love this place. I have been twice recently - most recently to watch the Euros semi final. The person behind the bar was so friendly and so quick to get my drink! I got the impression it’s a real local, with regulars there all chatting away. The atmosphere is so cozy, and the different sections of the pub make it feel so spacious, and there’s a cool outdoor area too. I’ll definitely be back - it’s a great place and I’d recommend it 100%.
Love the Star, we would probably go as far as to say it’s in our top 3 pubs of all time. The beer selection is second to none. The landlord and landlady are amazing, so much fun and so friendly, which is definitely something you want in a pub and encourages you to come back time and time again. Finally it just has such a nice feel and atmosphere to it, the punters are always happy, smiley and friendly and the layout just screams proper pub. If you only had time to visit one pub in this area, I would say give this one a go. Finally we love their nachos!!!
Best pub in the area. Community-minded without being unwelcoming to everyone. Great selection of drinks, including gin and an outstanding cider collection. Hearty pub food including a decent vegetarian selection. Strikes a perfect balance between the cosy and traditional (it's a beautiful, maze-like old building with a old-fashioned bar, beams and lots of books), and modern (food, non-overbearing music, football / rugby on low for those who want to watch). There's a surprisingly spacious garden tucked away behind with cover and heating for cooler months.
Popped in for a drink, lovely atmosphere and warm welcome. Clearly a pub known for it's good beer and plenty on tap to choose from. Garden lounge and garden good for dogs. Had at least one private event going on and a folk band, on a Bank Holiday Monday, yet still plenty of space for patrons.
Simply fantastic! Great people, great service, the beer is really well kept - even CruzCampo somehow tastes better. The food is so good, tasty, homemade and filling. Great, reasonably priced menu and you can't go wrong. They only lose a star for the music being too loud for me, but I get that this is the vibe they're going for.
This is my favourite pub - every time I visit it’s a genuinely wonderful experience. They have been voted Surrey’s Cider Pub of the Year for many years and I can tell why! They always have many fun cider options to choose from, all illustrated beautifully on their chalkboard menu. The last time I visited I finally got to try their food and I was just as impressed with the food as I always am with the drinks options! Very flavourful and very reasonably priced.
Very pleased. Served by Meghan. She was lovely, friendly, attentive and made excellent recommendations. People could choose to eat inside or outside and there was plenty of space. The interior of the pub was extremely interesting and it was great to have beer mats on the ceiling. it is worth have a look around as the interior is unique. Furthermore, it is evident that much attention has been paid to the pub's exterior. The prices were extremely reasonable and the menu was varied. They offered excellent starters as well as a great variety of burgers. The portions are generous and presented nicely. I recommend this place. The food was excellent, the interior of the place was great and the levels of service could not have been better.
Absolutely lovely pub. Friendly and helpful customer service, great food and atmosphere. I highly recommend the Star Inn Godalming to everyone. Inside is a lot bigger than I thought and there is a lovely beer garden. A local favourite. Great pub with great beer and cider selection. Food is always good and nothing feels like a rip off.
I love this pub, I would say it’s the best pub in the area. The staff are amazing, the owners are lovely and they always have an incredible selection of Beers and Ciders. It’s what you would expect a visualisation of the meaning within a dictionary would look like when you looked up the definition of “Pub”. It’s cozy has lots of different sections, and they do the best Nachos ever, literally these Nachos are amazing, I can’t even remember the amount of times I’ve skipped dinner just because I’ve had the nachos they are big, filling, tasty and they don’t skimp on ingredients, even the Nacho chips are top notch. I could wax lyrical about this pub all day if you wanted. I had my 40th here, it was one of the reasons we moved to the area. It is just an amazing “Pub” As a side note they do Halloween as Halloween should be, full of tacky scary animatronics and decorations, I’ve seen kids scared of walking in here around Halloween as they go all out.
Just lovely. Garden area is narrow, but look at the photo- I love that! Definitely I recommend Pizza evening on Thursdays! Every worker was very pleasant and professional. Well deserved 5 stars, well done guys!
As always a great pub, brilliant staff and a huge selection of real ale and excellent food. If you want a proper pub experience then there's nowhere else in Godalming to go.
Nice traditional pub. Good food and atmosphere. Friendly staff and the food came quickly. I recommend their burgers.
Olde world pub, good outside area, lovely staff, great food!
Great food, wonderful helpful and interesting staff
Visited for the Easter beer festival. An eclectic range of beers available.
We always enjoy visiting. Friendly staff, lovely ambience and the outdoor fire!
Small bar, but quick and attentive service. I went around Halloween and every square inch of the place was decorated with various spooky stuff - it was an incredible display! Best of all was the selection of beers and ciders, which was very wide and they are ever changing whatever your taste - cider, beer or spirits. The pizzas were tasty!
I might be a little partial in this review as this was our first experience in a Pub while travelling in England. Food was very good, reasonably priced and generous portions. The atmosphere is interesting for a foreign as we see many things with "new eyes". Service was very good and courteous. Must admit that asking for our desired meals at the balcony wasn't very straightforward for me, but we adapted quickly and it seems much more efficient. I had the superstar burger and it was absolutely delicious. Loved the experience and probably will return, if time allows.
What a lovely establishment, the owners, staff and clients make for a really enjoyable corner of Surrey to partake in some of the many ales & ciders available. The Sunday roast is incredible and the WiFi works really well.
What a lively pub to visit in Godalming. A great selection of beers, lovely staff and a super beer garden.
This pub is perfection with great always-new beers. It is also dog friendly except the only room where dogs are allowed is also the room they hire out for private functions; so sometimes you arrive with a dog and there is nowhere you can sit inside. Which is particularly miserable in the rain.
Last minute decision to eat out. I had chilli and husband a burger. Food came quickly and service with a smile. Food portions were large and very tasty. Thank you we will be back!
Great pub to watch sport and drink prices are reasonable Friendly staff and dog friendly
Proper old school pub. Really friendly service and a great selection of beers, all well kept. For the brave there was a large selection of cider, mead and perry. Bar snacks were varied and good value. Wish I had stayed here longer.
We needed a night away and randomly chose Godalming, having seen The Star as a highly rated pub that sold good beer and had a nice menu. We reserved a table thanks goodness as it was packed. A really nice atmosphere and the queues at the bar were no problem as the service was quick. An older blind couple sat next to us and the staff there were lovely with them, sitting and reading the menu to help them choose what they wanted, then returning to see how things were and whether they needed a drink. Such a friendly pub we had a great night. And when we were unsure how many of the sharing plates to order we were told that 2 and a dish of the chips might be enough to start with. It was, glad we didn’t order the 4 dishes that we were going to. Would highly recommend the pub, but book in advance if you want a seat.
Always has a great selection of beer and cider, so a hit with the Camra crowd. Food is good, generous portions and a lot of choice. The staff are all friendly and helpful. Definitely my favourite local pub They also have their own micro brewery and the Landlord is a Quins fan, what more can you ask? Just tried Sunday lunch, plate covered , see photo, for £16, not bad
Always go to Godalming but don't know this pub that seeing ig introduce it as so many award. Great pub with nice staffs and food. Sure will go again to try more cider here. Halloween decorated also impressive
No worries old style homely pub, great choice and very good standard of food. Would visit again
Really tasty post-run Sunday roast lamb. Lovely staff and great beer and cider selection. A proper pub.
We popped in as a last minute decisions for a Sunday roast. We arrived 15mins before the kitchen closed and they staff kindly informed us to order quickly to ensure we could eat before the kitchen closed. The roast had very generous portions and was the perfect pub lunch. Plenty of gravy, mint sauce, a ton of Lamb and great veg variety. Staff were friendly and atmosphere was very festive!
Proper old world boozer with friendly knowledgeable staff and a fantastic selection of beers and ciders. I also spied a decent range of gins behind the bar. Perhaps a tiny bit too brightly lit, but the constant visitors even on a Wednesday night demonstrates more than words how lovely this place is.
Lovely pub but far too food oriented. No indoor tables at all for drinkers. This would have been a fantastic pub years ago but now more like a restaurant. Such a shame as it’s a beautiful building.
One Year Without the Star Inn We stopped coming to the Star Inn last December following an appalling incident. We are locals and had been regular customers, visiting the pub two to three times a week for over a year. I had personally purchased Halloween tickets for my husband and me. As usual, everyone was greeted with complimentary shots upon arrival. However, during an evening visit last December, my husband and I were asked to leave because I did not have a physical form of ID with me. I did, however, have a valid digital ID, which the staff refused to accept. This was particularly frustrating, as the government has already introduced digital ID systems, and many visa holders now have digital IDs instead of physical residence cards. For context, I was only drinking water that evening. Despite this, a staff member, who was one of the managers at the time, dismissively said, “It’s a compliment,” (when he was referring to age) when we questioned the situation. Bering discriminated just because my face looks a little younger than my years is disgusting. I would not recommend this pub to anyone, especially if you are in the late 20’s, you will be treated like a toddler.
