Mrs H and I had scallops and French onion soup to start, both of which were spot on and came with a little warm home-baked petit pain. Moules frites twice for mains, well presented in a dish that contains a mesh partition that allows for chip dipping in the moules liqueur. Everything was presented beautifully, seasoned well, arrived promptly and piping hot. Service was snappy yet not overly formal, drinks were marvellous too (very good Old Fashioned). A delightful little slice of France transplanted to the North East. 10/10.
This is a fantastic restaurant. Everything about the food, location, service and atmosphere is just perfect. Reasonably priced as well.
My second visit and it didn't disappoint. Loved the menu options, service and quality of food. Fantastic experience, I thoroughly recommend this place when you want to go somewhere special.
We (me and my husband) have been wondering about trying Bouchon Bistrot for a while. We went for lunch today and it was great. Food was fantastic, service was good, setting was excellent. Price wise it's reasonable; we had 3 courses and wine for just under £100 and could have halved the bill if we were on a budget. It's definitely on our list of places to go back to.
4 if us dined here. Fantastic food and service, would highly recommend for a fancy night out. We spent the evening, service was great, attentive but not too much. Had a really relaxed evening and didnt feel rushed. Wine list was excellent and food was exceptional.
We had been thinking of visiting for a long time and were not disappointed. My wife and I enjoyed six different dishes and each one was excellent. Portion size was very good and the taste of each dish was sooo enjoyable. The service was of the highest standard with a good balance between attentiveness and timing. If you have been thinking of visiting don't think any longer just get it booked!! We definitely dithered for too long and return visits certain to feature in our future plans.
Gorgeous French food, it was absolutely delicious. There was a lovely view of the Abbey whilst we enjoyed the beautifully made food. The duck was cooked to perfection, and melted off the bone. The staff were very friendly. The atmosphere was great, and it was spotlessly clean. Overall, it was a very enjoyable experience, and I would recommend here to anyone visiting Hexham.
In terms of quality, value and atmosphere, this is by far our favourite restaurant in Northumberland. The food is always excellent - we have visited 4 times now and the food has been perfect every time - the scallops are especially good. The staff are so accommodating and friendly, we’ve been served by Millie mostly and she can’t do enough. I’d particularly like to highlight the fact that we mentioned that the brand of water being used contained fluoride and there were better options available; the next time we visited they had actually changed the water to the brand we suggested! We couldn’t believe it, that small touch really made us feel at home and we are so appreciative (usually because we have had the odd look for pointing those sort of things out). In summary, this restaurant is 10 out of 10 and we can’t wait to go back.
Awesome early doors prix fixed tonight on our way to a folk gig at Queen's Hall. Coley in a mouclade sauce and Guinea fowl leg with puy lentils. Spiced poached pears and white chocolate mouse wa passion fruit gell. A sable as short as you like. Everything just on point, love the quality and precision of cooking
We attended for Hexham restaurant week where we had food from the set menu. There was loads of choice on that menu & all of our food was delicious. A great wine list to choose from too. I really wonderful atmosphere, great looking space, with efficient and friendly staff. Car park straight opposite. I would highly recommend!
J’adore !! We came all the way from Newcastle and it did not disappoint. As someone with a big French culture and having lived there for 8 years, I was impressed, which rarely happens in French restaurants in the UK. Shona was lovely and we were warmly welcomed by what we think is the owner. My fiancé had the rabbit and I had the steak and two starters. We were sat at the terrasse and we enjoyed it so much. We will definitely be back!!
Amazing food, amazing service, their tarte tatin is one of the tastiest things I have ever eaten
Service first class. Food typical French with gentle French music in the background. Menu excellent some good favorites with plenty of modern twists. Exchanged words with a couple in the resto. who come every two weeks. Lovely evening you can eat outside lunch and dinner and location is fine for this. We do hope we can visit again
Greatest French restaurant in this part of the UK. Excellent service and the new terraces are fantastic. Very high quality food and drink.
Great evening with family in Bouchon. Enjoyed some lovingly prepared food, in a wonderful environment. Would thoroughly recommend *****
Top quality authentic French cuisine. Lovely staff.
A recommendation got us her, fantastic food , the staff although busy were very attentive and helpful. Made a great night for all.
Fantastic meal with friends. All the staff made us welcome, all very friendly. We all ate off the lunch time set menu which was delightful. Small-ish portions which you'd expect from a nicer restaurant but not all stingy, 3 courses went down a treat.
Stopped at this place on a Northumberland weekend away with my partner. Thought we'd go somewhere unique. The food was absolutely delicious, excellent service, a lovely little gem. Would highly recommend. Merci!
Stayed next door in an Airbnb so popped in here twice, both excellent meals which we couldn't fault. The pace was great, didn't feel like we were left waiting nor did we feel rushed. Restaurant opens at 6pm and both nights it was full by 6:05pm which surely is a good sign? Atmosphere was great, no obtrusive music but just the sound of diners enjoying themselves.
We had a fantastic meal on Saturday evening. The food and service were perfect. We recommend to our friends, family and guests who stay in our holiday let’s.
Amazing. Great staff. Delicious food
Valentines lunch was excellent the restaurant was comfortably busy, the menu catered for all tastes. Our choices were well presented and very well cooked. The best meal we have had in a long time. Congratulations to all the staff
Steak Frite Tender melted in our mouth french fries we're delicious Highly recommend We will be back
This is by far the best food, I've had recently. I travel extensively throughout Europe and have had great food but this gem is on my doorstep. Staff were friendly and a great peaceful atmosphere. Would recommend to anyone who loves French cuisine cooked properly.
This is an absolutely wonderful restaurant would have no hesitation in recommending. Delicious!
This place is amazing 🤩. We lived 19 years in France and are now back in the UK. This is the best meal out I've had in the UK since coming back!! Food is really authentic and top quality. Merci beaucoup a toute l'équipe, nous reviendrons !
A wonderful, authentic experience. Fabulous food, friendly efficient staff, lovely ambience. Highly recommended…
Food cooked to perfection 10/10 Espresso Martini 11/10 service 10/10 we love a window seat however we had to request upon arrival as table allocated was too small and felt crammed I could hear next tables full blown conversation the room felt on the cool side the only thing missing was back ground French music I could hear it playing in room adjacent overall a pleasant experience for our first visit on the pricey side for portion sizes but food was good highly recommended for that special occasion. £93 a service charge of £8 on top.
Last weekend we have been there as a family. Very slow service to start with. Wine menu was brought in prior to the menu!! Then it took awhile for the menu to arrive. Food really good apart from the rabbit. The dish was dry and fibery. All in all a nice place to where, I will return. Few niggles to be ironed out. That's all.
I finally found a place that does amazing food and at a reasonable price Driving from York was worth the effort. I wish there was somewhere nearer that was close to this level of dining, but nowhere in York comes close. The escargot was cooked just right, the main meal was better than expected, I had the absolute best espresso martini I've ever had, and the molten chocolate cake was the right temperature. The only reason this was not a five star experience is because our servers forgot about us several times during our dining experience to chat to other patrons they seemed to know. They also forgot to bring small requested items, such as an extra fork, butter for the bread, and still water. Food was 5 stars. Service was 3.5 stars. 100% would return for the food.
This is beautiful restaurant with a lovely setting. Menu is varied and interesting with a substantial wine list. However we felt both the food and service were average and we left feeling underwhelmed.
Lovely French food and ambience. Attentive professional and warm service, French classics as pictured. Recommend scallops, lamb and duck.
We went for lunch. Service great, ordered scallops 10/10 cheese souffle 9/10. Mains Chicken a bit salty 8/10. Pork Escalope tough pastry and tough pork and way over salted, sent back. 2/10 as presentation was good. Chocolate mousse 9/10, esspresso to finish. Wine Sav Blanc very nice. Over all a nice restaurant.
We booked this restaurant for Mother’s Day as this is somewhere my mum has been wanting to try for a long time. Unfortunately we left very disappointed due to the service we received. Upon arrival we did not get given menus straight away. Staff were visibly unimpressed we didn’t order alcoholic drinks which then led to slow service for our drinks order. After ordering, our food came out before drinks had arrived for all of us. We had to reorder one of our drinks which was forgotten. We ordered two extra sides which arrived once 3 of our 4 guests had already finished their mains. Staff were then off hand when we said we no longer wanted the sides, as we didn’t have any food to eat them with. No one came back to see how our food was during our meal, so couldn’t ask for these any sooner as we couldn’t get anyone’s attention. For these reasons, we felt the discretionary service charge was not deserved, so asked for it to be removed and the attitude of who I presume was the manager was extremely rude and didn’t say anything after this, and my mum saw him pulling a face and making comments to other members of staff when walking away. No one thanked us for dining with them when we left, in fact we received no acknowledgment despite spending almost £150. All round disappointing after looking forward to coming for so long. Sadly, despite the lovely tasting food, the service has left a sour taste in our mouths and we won’t be returning.
On our recent visit, one of the staff very rude to us, humiliated and berated us for arriving early in a very loud voice infront of other diners even though we said we were happy to wait, and continued to treat us with disdain. Ruined what should have been a very special meal, we felt very uncomfortable and only stayed because we'd have been charged a cancellation fee for leaving. Will not be back, will absolutely not recommend. Customers are king, especially if you want them to return again and again , but clearly not in this restaurant. This guy should not be front of house, no people or service skills. food ok, drinks (half measures/ full price!!) , very poor.
