First time at Ginos on Friday night! Great vibes from the minute I walked in. The bar was busy but it didn't take long to get a drink while we waited for our table. First rime viewing the menu and there was plenty to choose from! I got the beef ragu arancine balls which were delicious. Chicken stuffed with Mozzarella, sundried tomatoes and pesto sauce....... BOSH! I personally loved the food and the restaurant! I'd happily go back next Friday! Thanks Gino you dirty D'Acampo for an excellent night.
1000/10! The food, service and location of this restaurant is amazing. The food and portion sizes are perfect. I went with my mother and we shared the King Prawn Bruscetta, I has the Smoked salmon pasta and my mother had the Carbonara. I also finished with the Tiramisu. Absolutely delicious! Perfect sizes. All the staff were very professional, friendly and knowledgeable. Harriett was our server and she was fabulous! The restaurant is right on the river so you can sit outside when the weather is right or inside. It is modern yet comfortable.
An Italian restaurant with a contemporary design. It was quite busy when I arrived on a Friday evening. Fortunately we made reservations so securing a table was a breeze. Had fried calamari, pasta and some chicken dish. All was on point. I especially like the batter used for the fried calamari. It is light yet, savoury. Special mention to the tiramisu too - the lady fingers were soaked but not wet. Right amount of alcohol and coffee.
Having planned to go elsewhere for lunch after checking in to the melia hotel (attached) we saw the Gino de campo bar and decided to just eat there. It was super clean with nice decor and as it was a nice day, even outside looked appealing. The pizzas were great, service was also brilliant and we thoroughly enjoyed the cocktails. Would return when next back in Newcastle
This restaurant is really great! We are here both nights while on a work trip. We did not need to book either night but I'm not suggesting you risk it if you really want to eat here! The food we had was delicious, cooked well and very tasty. They have a wood fired pizza oven and the pizzas looked great. I had the seafood pasta one night which was fantastic! I visited with colleagues and it a great location for this. The staff were all very helpful and friendly. The restaurant is more pricey than a lot in the area but it is very good. Definitely recommend.
Attended with my 15yr old daughter on a wee trip to Newcastle and the food was amazing. I had bruschetta, followed by chicken in a creamy mushroom sauce, daughter had the seafood linguine and then chocolate fondant. Prices were reasonable and we were £99 which included a 10% tip. Staff were polite and professional. Restaurant wasn't busy when we arrived but was getting busier as we left. Would definitely attend again.
I had a great experience at Gino D'Acampo Restaurant Quayside in Newcastle. The service was genuinely warm and attentive, especially from our waitress who was incredibly kind throughout the meal. We started with a generous antipasti tower loaded with cheeses, cured meats, and olives — fresh, well-balanced, and perfect for sharing. For the main course, I ordered the beef fillet with a creamy mushroom sauce, and it was excellent. The meat was tender, cooked exactly right, and the sauce tied everything together beautifully. Overall, a very enjoyable meal in a welcoming atmosphere. Highly recommended.
I went to an event to get an exclusive sneak preview of Gino’s brand new winter menu. The food was incredible and service was amazing as always. Thanks so much to Rosie for looking after us as always! I can’t wait to try the rest of the menu, and try the full sized versions of these dishes! The ravioli was a personal favourite.
We went for a family meal to celebrate exam results. We had such an amazing time and the waitress was lovely. Her name was Lucy. She was so polite, patient and caring. Very informative and very prompt with serving our food. The food tasted lovely and very nice atmosphere and friendly. Highly recommend
Gino’s is one of my favourite restaurants in Newcastle, in the perfect spot that captures a glimpse of the city perfectly. My best friend was visiting me from America, and I wanted to take her somewhere special so we dined here and it was great. We got the mussels to start, and for the mains we had seafood risotto and ribeye steak - with peppercorn sauce and also the chimichurri. The mussels come drenched in a creamy, garlic sauce served with toasted ciabatta which was divine. I asked for my risotto to be spicy, this was also perfect with plenty fresh red chillies which I loved as they were cooked with the rest of the ingredients. I find when I ask places to add chilli to my food, they just sprinkle chilli flakes on the top, so it was nice to be served something that was exactly to my taste palette. The steak and the truffle fries were also cooked to perfection, we ate everything! We made room for dessert of course and 2 spicy margaritas, we had the Ferrero rocher chocolate cheesecake, it had a layer of dark chocolate ganache, which we both loved. My friend was so impressed and so was I by the warm welcome, hospitality, service and the exceptional food. I also want to add - the manager Jacko was simply amazing. I have a 7 month old baby and any time he saw her drop her dummy on the floor, he would get my boiling water without being asked and sterilise her dummies and he kept checking if she was happy and comfortable and if I was, and if we needed anything more. As well as doing the service, catering to everyone’s needs, he showed me compassion and kindness and just made our experience unforgettable. Please give him a huge thank you from the 3 of us. 10/10 evening and I cannot wait to come back ❤️
Really nice and affordable. Me and my girlfriend dined here on valentines day and the service was absolutely spot on, the food was amazing and one of the waitresses there really stood out for us, her name was Lucy and she was brilliant, from start to finish she made sure we were okay for drinks and with alot of places your left looking around for ages trying to get somebody’s attention but Lucy was extremely attentive and very friendly cannot give enough praise to this lass, brilliant member to have in house. :)
We have dined several times at Ginos both in Birmingham & Newcastle. On this occasion (as always) the food and atmosphere was exceptional. We would like to say an additional thankyou to our excellent server Isabel who was brilliantly patient with our children and was very polite throughout. Thankyou :)
The best located restaurant in Newcastle! Sat upon the river Tyne with stunning views of the bridges. Outside space is also perfect with terraces and a beautiful outside bar. The food is authentically amazing with wonderful pastas , pizza and other stunning mains including Veal, duck and mouth watering seafood. I absolutely love this place. It's my go-to. It has a Uber vibe which relaxes you immediately with background sounds oozing from resident DJs and spectacular displays of food being prepared and created from the open kitchen . Go to this restaurant and come out feeling special.
We had such an amazing time at Ginos tonight for our first months marriage anniversary. Thought we would treat ourselves and could not have chose a better place. What made it even better was the service from Leo, he thoroughly made it an amazing experience including the complementary dessert which you can see! Thanks so much Leo! You were great :)
Amazing!!! Thank you so much for every single day we spend at your restaurant. The food was awesome! The price is absolutly justified. The view were also very good. But the absolut best was the people there! Our favorit: Denis! Unbelievable friendly, funny, lovely! He was the main reason why we came every day of our Newcastle-visit to your restaurant. Thank you Denis, Thanks to the whole „Gino‘s“-Team. You all did a great job!
Me and my boyfriend came to Gino's this evening and I left engaged with a ring on my finger. The food was absolutely stunning bursting full of flavour vibrant and fresh. From the mo.ent we walked in we were treated professionally and very welcoming. The prices were excellent and the portion sizes were perfect. thank you to all the staff both front of house and in the kitchen for making our evening so magical and special. We will never forget this evening. From Shar and Chris xxx
Visited Ginos restaurant in Newcastle for my birthday with my husband last night. Had an amazing time , food , cocktails and service was first class a big thankyou to our waitress Saba who looked after us . She was attentive, courteous and friendly. And at the end of the meal the staff sang happy birthday to me with a complimentary ice-cream, very classy restaurant would highly recommend 👌
Great gluten-free menu, excellent food and portions. Highly attentive service by our waitress Lucy, who couldn't have been any more helpful. Will return.
Superb. Love the dishes and quality is perfect for that price point. We had so much, even though we went in half full. Great service esp we changed twice the table, due to high decibel noises. There were a group of roudy 30s age ladies that i dun understand why they have to speak and laugh so loudly, a bit rude and unnecessary. After they left, wow, the restaurant is just v nice. Go and try!!
The staff went above and beyond to make sure our visit was fantastic, the meal was perfect. We will definitely return and recommend to our friends and family.
I had an amazing pizza made by Jack! Really enjoyed my lunch here and will definitely come back! Service was excellent specially Patryk! Looking forward to come back !
stayed at the hotel for three days and the restaurant on the ground floor was packed all the time. taxi drivers also recommended this place as a famous restaurant so went to check. salads were fresh and all the dishes were good, especially the pork belly with mashed potato and wine sauce. we shared a pizza, which was the least delicious plate here. it was very crowded but the waiter was attentive and quick.
Really good atmosphere and friendly staff. We all had pizza, tasty and authentic. Our daughter has GF and the base was rather tough - had to ask for a steak knife to cut it.
Lucy’s service was espetacular, well done to her. We were on a big table and everyone’s food was lovely, very big portions we should have shared starters. Lovely location by tje river. We also had drinks before the the hotel bar.
We had breakfast as we were staying at the hotel good selection, good quality ingredients, the only thing I personally was not keen on was the mushrooms far to much garlic but everything else was good.
The food is good for what is effectively a flash weatherspoons. But I wouldn’t probably have any reason to return. Fit out is nice. Staff are friendly. Could use a bit more of an eye for detail on cleanliness. The salt and pepper shakers, beer glass and table were all not properly cleaned at opening.
I booked this restaurant as my husband loves Italian food and it was for his birthday. We’ve always liked Gino so expected good things from his restaurant. We were shown straight to our table and our order for drinks was taken in a timely manner. However, it took so long to come out, I had to ask for it! I’ll start by saying our waitress was friendly and I had no complaints about her or her service but that’s where the compliments end. Considering the prices and the name of this restaurant, I expected more. I ordered the tempura prawns and there was nothing tempura about it! The batter was thick and over fried and I’ve had better in a restaurant that charges half the price. The slow cooked beef dish I had was warm at best and I’m not exaggerating when I say I make better at home, especially for £26 a dish! The flavours were nice enough but lacked real depth and needed more seasoning. The crème brûlée, it tasted nice to be fair but the consistency was all wrong and it was still cold in the middle! To top it all off, they tried to charge a £32 service charge! I got them to take it off as the food was okay and I was disappointed for my husband. Unfortunately, I found the restaurant was more for show, lots of people taking selfies, and clearly taking pictures for social media. Safe to say, we won’t be going back!
Exceptional location on the Tyne riverfront with stunning views. Kitchen is good enough, no complaints about the dishes and quality cocktails. Biggest downside is quite poor service. I've been here several times, so can confidently say that there is a serious problem with the staff. Not all, but most of the employees treat customers casually, some are too familiar, others are able to forget what was ordered or leave the table unattended for a long time. Once we're served by an obviously drunk waiter... There will be problems with this kind of service, so managers should be concerned about the selection of employees and create appropriate motivational measures.
As much as I wanted to enjoy my first experience at one of Gino's restaurants, I was unfortunately disappointed by what I suspected would be mediocre food with mediocre service. The menu was uninspiring - some classic Italian dishes you'd expect from any retail chain so I opted for a cheeseburger simply because I thought that's always going to be good. Sadly not, the brioche bun was heavily charred with grill lines, the bland patty overcooked and the cheese slice burnt to a husk. The lettuce and tomato that would usually be in the burger were served on the side and the tomatoes weren't the freshest. Even the chips were undercooked and the side of spinach I ordered in an attempt to balance my meal was literally just wilted spinach with no flavour. I should mention that my server never asked how I'd like my burger cooked and with retrospect, I could have volunteered that I like them a bit pink but it slipped my mind when ordering. I would have said something to the team had someone come to check on me but they didnt, even though I tried signalling to 2 different members of wait staff, I just couldn't get their attention. It was busy in the restaurant and after travelling to Newcastle from London that day, and waiting to enjoy a meal before bed, I didn't have the energy to wave someone down and send food back. Sadly like most celeb restaurants, this feels all style and no substance. The score balanced out a bit because it was clearly busy and I was dining alone but still, I spent 60 quid on 2 courses, a side and 2 drinks so would have liked this to be better.
Food was okay it wasn’t anything spectacular, the salmon pasta could have been made at home from a jar although the desserts and bear board was very tasty. What made the experience was the atmosphere and the waiter Leo was so good! He engaged with our baby and kept checking on us and gave my mum a cake for her birthday which made her very happy!! It took a while for us to get the attention of other waiters for the bill but Leo was very attentive! The blonde manageress forgot our table water and the bill when we asked but Leo got it straight away when we asked him.
Situated in a lovely location near River Tyne. Beautiful views. Metro and buses drop you in town centre so It is good 10-15 walk from Newcastle Town centre. Although you can drive down or get taxi. It is close to other pubs and restaurants and also close by to few accommodations if you fancy staying over. Beautiful inside. The staff were lovely and friendly and service was quick and good. The price was pricey and to be fair the meal could be bought anywhere, not overly special for the price. I would come again if I wasn't paying, so if anyone wants to treat me feel free lol 😉. The restaurant is very clean and very up to date and the toilets are nice also.
There isn’t enough staff. Went on a Friday night and spent multiple times trying to flag people down. Irish girl serving us was really nice and helpful just had too many tables to manage on her own. Food was mixed. Risotto was nice, pizza was bland and the carbonara was dried out, clearly having sat under a hot lamp for some time. We received a cold chocolate fondant cake and when we asked for it to be reheated the dark haired manager was extremely rude about it telling us it was supposed to be this like this, even though the menu did describe it as warm. Shame for such a nice setting but don’t waste your money, there’s plenty of much nicer Italians in Newcastle.
Ordered the Carbonara. It tasted like a bag of salt mixed with elastic bands. I advised Manager and was told its pasta not spagetti! I was mortally offended as I have eaten genuine Italian food for years and felt as if I was getting accussed of having no class or idea about food. I strongly suspect the quantity of bacon in the sauce overpowered the dish. I will not eat here again.
My husband and I ate here a few times during our recent stay. The food was ok, it really varied. Once it was great, the next time mediocre. The service was not great- getting the wait staff attention was almost impossible and there was no check back to see if the food was ok. It is a pretty spot, overlooking the river.
I have to say I was disappointed. Don't get me wrong, the food was OK, but at these prices it should have been excellent. The portion of potatoes shown is £5. The calzone dessert which was advertised as banana and Nutella had very little of either and was therefore quite doughy. I don't think I particularly enjoyed any of the courses. We were a large group and as such had pre-booked the meals. The service however was quite confused. One of our group had cancelled and we cancelled their meal earlier that day, it didn't stop them from trying to charge us for it though. I will say, others in the group did enjoy their meals so I was likely in the minority.....but they weren't paying the bill so might have had different expectations. I doubt I will go back.
We dined here on valentines. When we arrived we had to wait in the bar for the table for 20 minutes. I felt quite rushed to order my meal. I got a chicken pizza and I am very disappointed the only taste on that was a strong tomato taste. For the price this should taste so much better. The music was far too loud. We will not be dining here again.
My husband and I dined at this restaurant last night, the 1st December 2025 with a friend. It was a pre celebratory meal for my birthday on 2nd December. We often dine here so we are regular clientele. Last night however was quite disturbing for us. The meal was fine......nothing out of the ordinary but standard and very expensive Italian food. Our problem was with the toilet facilities. We initially used the unisex toilets downstairs. I don't like unisex toilets but I am prepared to use them if they are respectably clean. Yesterday at 5pm there was a strong smell of urine in the toilets. Therefore at the end of our meal my friend and I decided to use the toilets on the first floor, which are also public toilets. We took the lift to the first floor because I am disabled and in any case the staircase was cordoned off. We used the facilities and whilst we were washing our hands, an employee of the hotel who was busy pruning her eyelashes in the mirror, turned to us and said that we shouldn't be in those toilets. It transpired that the Tottenham Hotspur football team had taken up residence on the top floor of the hotel and so we, as mere diners, were not allowed to use the toilets on the first floor. The team had finished their corporate champagne reception prior to their match against Newcastle United the following day and were being protected from women like my friend and I who merely wanted to answer the call of nature in a toilet that did not stink of urine. There is a more important issue at stake however. I have a colostomy and if I had needed to change my stoma bag, the only disabled toilet is on the first floor. On this occasion I didn't need to do this so I was using the ordinary toilets. Had a person using a wheelchair needed to access the disabled toilet I'm not sure what they would have done. When my friend and I came out of the toilet, having been reprimanded by the lady attending to her mascara, we then had to run the gauntlet of the Tottenham Hotspur bouncers before we got into the lift. The man was polite enough but, as women we should not have to answer to a football bouncer. Personally, I am fed up of corporate hospitality and I have no time for overpaid and underworked men who kick a ball around for a living. What about the normal clientele of an establishment like this? I will be very dubious about dining at this hotel again, in case I can't access the disabled toilet on the first floor. We did voice our concerns to the reception staff but I'm not convinced that these will be passed on to the management. When we arrived home, after having spent over £ 300.00 the final insult was that we received an email saying that we had failed to attend our booking. Presumably the Bot on the booking app malfunctioned on this occasion. We have the receipts to prove our attendance.
Came here for an early valentines meal with my boyfriend and was very disappointed. I ordered the lasagna and it was extremely mushy and bland. As well as that he ordered the carbonara which was better but still extremely dry. Atmosphere and drinks were however really good. Would not come back.
Newcastle Utter waste of time. So waiter didnt have a clue about the menu. Starters were poor. Got served cold cheese with tomatoes. 🤣🤣 disgusting. Carbonara was so salty I have had a better ready meal. Desert was cold and solid. Ordered few rounds of drunk and 1 point they missed half the drinks had to repeatedly ask for my missus wine. Bill came and added 10% service charge of £12. Oh and its was full if flies. 7pm on a saturday in feb where are these flies coming from??? Never got asked how food was. And when we mentioned food wasnt nice waiter went "okay" then walked away. Honestly avoid this place
Worst pizza ever. No mozzarella and it wasn't even a good temperature. Came on very thin base, a smattering of tomato paste, about 6 anchovies and tiny olives that looked like they'd been around for days. Interesting to note serious comparison an hour or so later for a large party whose starters even looked so much better. Shame as great company - so impossible to complain at time - and nice views over Tyne. Been before and food was lovely so just a one off? Even so, shows a lack of pride in quality of food served.
I really wanted to like this place but I was sadly disappointed. Firstly when we arrived it was very quiet and we were placed in the corner next to the window. It took a while for someone to come over to the table and there were no waiters/ waitress’ around when to grab their attention. The starters were nice I had the arancine but the mains were what really let it down. I had the polpette it came in a tomato sauce with two small pieces of bread that’s it. The sauce was very watery and extremely salty the meatballs were so tough I could barely get my knife through them and they had no flavour. I ate about a 1/3 and had to give up. I waited for someone to come to the table or to see someone but no one came. When someone eventually came to clear the table they didn’t even check in with us to see how the meals were at this point we had been sitting there so long we just got the bill. I definitely won’t be returning for £18.95 the main was not worth it even if the food itself had been nice it would have not been worth the price. I’ve had a lot better Italian food for a lot better price and with a lot better customer service.
