Morningside Thai is a Houston favorite for authentic Thai cuisine, praised for fresh ingredients and flavorful dishes. The Pad Thai, chicken satay, and Thai fried rice are highly recommended. Some find spice levels inconsistent, but overall, a great comfort meal.

wow.. my new favorite place. We got the Pad Pett and the Clay Pot. Everything was deliciousssss, the food was so good I ordered another Pad pert to go so my family can try it.
Hot spot for take out. They do a lot of business. Parking there is a little awkward but there is tons of it bc there are no other retail stores in the evening. The food and drinks are all spot on. You can dial in your spiciness level.
Food was so flavorful and delicious. Egg fried rice is amazing, pad iew saw was so tasty and perfectly cooked! Definitely recommend a visit here!
The food is really fresh and flavorful. All the dishes we ordered were amazing! The service was also excellent!
I love this place sooo much!! The food is always fresh and flavorful. I’ve been coming here since 2022 & it’s definitely a hidden gem. The service here is also great as well.
I dont know how this place isn't a 5 star restaurant. It isn't boujie or over priced (which it should be but dont tell them this!) The service is amazing, I had a girl waitress and she was super sweet, the food was AMAZING (not everybody's pad thai is good, but here it is) the cheese rolls were to die for with the sauce. The thai tea was also very tasty. If I could give it 7 stars I would. Those who know, know and those who dont, dont. Be in the know !!
I've been coming here for over a year. The food and drinks are always excellent and the atmosphere is fantastic. All my friends come here when they visit me.
Food is phenomenal. Ingredients are fresh and flavorful. The service is consistently friendly and fast.
The food and service here is very good. We came for lunch and the service was very nice and fast and the staff is always friendly.
The food was amazing & delicious. I love the curry flavors. There’s something amazing about coconut milk, cilantro, peppers and everything else involved. I’m very pleased with my meals. I’ve tried a lot of food with 20 years in the Army. I will be coming here again and with the family. Thank you
How lucky am I to live 5-10 mins from this place! Every take out order I’ve ever placed comes just as ordered and delicious every time!!! They package your food with care and I very much appreciate that. Very good clean Thai food! Never a miss!
We have been comming here for years and eveytime the food is fresh and portions are always generous! Recommend this place always
This was our first time visit, being vegetarian we are always looking for good Thai vegetarian and looks like we found one of the best one in town. Good flavors, more than perfect portions for dinner, very tasty. Clean ambiance, good service friendly staff. We are for sure coming back.
I work nearby in Texas Medical Center and have stopped by this location a few times now. This is one of the best Thai restaurants in my opinion, and there are so many Thai restaurants in Houston! My usual orders are the Ground Chicken Basil with Fried Egg and their seasonal mango sticky rice. I would continue to come back here regularly.
The food and service is always so good! It’s definitely one of my go to comfort spots. Highly recommend!
I always get the same meal every time I come here. ( beef and broccoli with the cheese rolls). The service is great , the atmosphere is great. The place is small but I never eat there just take out. The guy that places your order is wonderful and very friendly.
This is a very cute and delicious little establishment. I had the fried calamari, Thai tea, and some plate with fish. First, they have the best fried calamari I have ever had. Our server was very helpful with recommendations and helping me find a plate I would enjoy. She was spot on with her recommendation. The fish was fantastic, very flavorful and savory. The sticky rice is also very very good.
Great lunch deal, good portions, quick service! It can get packed during lunch hour but the seating is usually available. I like the pad Thai, green curry, and pad woon sen!
This is a small, cozy place with the best Thai food I’ve EVER had! My mom & I stopped in while in Houston and ordered steamed dumpling, chicken pad Thai, and chicken yellow curry. All 3 things were delicious! Everything was flavorful and the portions were enough for 2! We will be back next time we’re in town😊
Quick service and tasty food! I had the garlic chicken plate and it was great. The brown sugar milk tea was also excellent.
My favorite Thai restaurant! The food is fresh and full of rich, deep flavors. I've tried 10-15 items on the menu and every one of them was fantastic. The dumplings are right up there with the best I've ever had. The place is cozy but the service is excellent and the food always comes out in a timely manner. HIGHLY recommend.
Among my favorite Thai restaurants in Houston. All the classic dishes in a no frills space. The food is all very flavorful - I particularly loved the basil chicken and pad see ew. Also of note, the restaurant is BYOB! Overall, I definitely recommend this spot and hope to come back soon!
The food was delicious we ordered from Uber Eats. I got pad see ew with mild spice and chicken as my protein. I was tempted to get medium spice for fear mild wasn't spicy enough but it was perfectly spicy for me. The chicken and noodles to vegetables ratio was perfect. I will definitely order from here again or make a visit.
Great atmosphere, super cute little whole in the wall. Vegetarian options + courtesy (I ordered tofu and they asked me if I’m vegetarian) haven’t ate yet but so far so good! It smells amazing I imagine the food will be good too.
Small space. But very good food. Service is luke warm, but that’s how it is these days. I like to leave a tip based on friendly accommodating service. Had to cut back to 15% because main guy went over and sat down looking on his phone ordering people from kitchen who were delivering meals to get checks for our table and another. He was probably 8 feet from our table. Anyway, very good authentic Thai.
The other week I came here I wasn’t served for quite some time and walked out, I was told this would be fixed and wasn’t the way they operate and was apologized too. I decided to give it another try today and it was a night and day difference, staff was friendly and was more attentive to the people dinning in over the people picking up food unlike last time and that felt really good. The food was of course amazing as it always is, thanks a lot for the change guys 🙏 fried rice and cheese rolls are 10/10
A solid little Thai spot with good flavors and a cozy, hole-in-the-wall vibe. I ordered the chicken Pad See Ew (spicy) and pad Thai, I enjoyed it. The noodles weren’t overly greasy, and the spice level was milder than expected, which actually made it easy to enjoy the whole dish. The vegetables were fresh, though the broccoli pieces were a bit too large for me. I went during the week and the service was decent quick and straightforward. The atmosphere is simple and feels like a classic small, tucked-away restaurant. Nothing fancy, but it gets the job done. I also tried the fried banana, and it was surprisingly good. The honey really brings out the banana’s natural sweetness and gives it a rich flavor. Overall, solid food, good portions, and a nice casual spot if you’re in the mood for Thai.
I have never written a review for any restaurant. This is the first restaurant I've written about so hear me out. IT’S SO FREAKING GOOD YALL. I JUST WANNA GATEKEEP THIS PLACE FOR MYSELF BUT I FEEL LIKE THIS SMALL RESTAURANT NEED THE ATTENTION. I went there and ordered 3 dishes and 1 drink which was tom yum soup, beef pad thai, pork yellow curry, and thai green tea. It’s all taste absolutely delicious. The service was quick. The price is so affordable compared to other restaurants because it’s in downtown yk how expensive downtown restaurants are. GO THERE AND TRY IT OUT NOW. 😋😋😋
Morning Side Thai is truly a hidden gem! My family and I had crab fried rice, crispy garlic chicken and combo pad kee mao. We enjoyed everything we ordered. Each dish was full of fresh, authentic flavors with erfectly balanced spices. The staff were so friendly and welcoming, which made our whole dine-in experience even better. A true hidden gem worth visiting again and again.
Seriously the best cashew chicken I’ve had outside of Thailand! The mango sticky rice was also perfection. Everything was topped off with a delicious milk tea. I’m so glad I took a chance on Morningside through UberEats. I’ll definitely be ordering from them again next time I’m in town!
Morningside serves delicious Thai food, has no annoying loud canned music, and serves no alcohol. It is located in an intimate, no-frills space in a small strip mall. There are lunch specials and some outdoor seating. The staff are professional and efficient. The kitchen may slow down a bit when there's a crowd, but you can have a quiet conversation while you wait - and it's worth waiting. The extensive menu allows the customization of many dishes' spiciness level and ingredients including protein type, making this a vegetarian/vegan-friendly restaurant. We've eaten here repeatedly and everything we've ordered is wonderful. If you have room for dessert, try the delectable purple rice pudding with coconut cream.
Haven’t been here in a while but we enjoyed a late Sunday lunch today. Ordered Thai toast and mini egg rolls, two iced green jasmine teas (one with mango flavor), and pad thai and pad pett. Husband said his pad pett was mild spicy and could have used more spice but everything was delicious.
I visited this place at least a half a dozen times as I've been working in Houston. They seem to stay pretty busy and have carryout orders constantly streaming out. Their lunch special is great and their regular prices are quite reasonable as well. Every dish of theirs that I've had has been fantastic. I especially enjoyed their tiger cry beef, ground chicken with basil, and chicken satay. Definitely try more than just pad thai, there are so many good dishes!
This is the best Thai food I've had so far in Texas. The noodles are fantastic, the soup is amazing, the rolls are light, crisp and delicious dipped in the great sauce. We'll be making this place a regular in our travels. The service is great, attentive and quick service.
Did takeout Pad Chai and Creamy Tom Yum. Must say it's some of the best Thai food I had in Houston. The pad Thai had a great balance of flavor and aroma. The Tom Yum could have had some more pop but it was still very good. Recommend!
The chicken satay was tender and juicy with a rich, flavorful peanut sauce that really stood out. The chicken fried rice was perfectly seasoned, packed with fresh ingredients, and cooked just right—not greasy at all. Everything tasted fresh and satisfying. Definitely a great spot if you’re craving quality Thai food.
This is one of the best Thai fried rice I have ever had. It was soo delicious 😋 I definitely recommend this place. 10/10. It is such a hidden gem. I was just looking for some thai food around the hospital and I found this. I advised the waiter to advice the owner to be active on TikTok as well. Excellent food and service.
Second time here and I was very happy both visits. They make some great curry and the crispy garlic chicken is very yummy especially when you with some fish sauce, fried egg and steamed rice. The staff was very friendly and very attentive overall I would absolutely come back and I recommend anyone. Great lunch, menu options and prices. The staff also took a call for an order for a vegan couple and was very accommodating.
I got the lunch special and they gave me soup, a spring roll, and yellow curry with rice. It was a lot of rice and not enough curry but it was still filling for a lunch portion. Curry noodles are very good, it’s like a generic red curry gravy with noodles in it. Yellow curry is the only pure vegetarian option, the other curries use shrimp paste.
It's been nine years since we've eaten here and now after another stellar meal....we wonder why it took so long to get back. My wife got the crispy garlic fried chicken and loved it, it was on the lunch menu and came with a small tasty fried veggie egg roll. I thoroughly enjoyed a lunch menu chicken pad Thai and I had the same two sides...some of the best ever. I enjoyed and grudgingly shared a Thai iced coffee....we'll be back sooner rather than later. Yum. Both lunches came with a cup of soup of the day....today it was vegetable soup. We had some food delivered and as usual it was amazing. My wife enjoyed a medium order of wonton soup. We split some tiny eggrolls that were very good. I enjoyed some chicken pad thai. You can order different levels of spicyness and I went with hot...it was almost too spicy for me but it was too tasty to quit. Both of us had enough leftovers to make another meal.
I have lunch here by myself once a week or anytime I leave work early! Their lunch menu is super affordable and soooooooooooooo yummy! My plate is always clean. I love that the lunch portion has an eggrolls and little broth soup. It’s just such a perfect balance. Chicken pad Thai with chicken level two is the way to go!
We ordered take out from here(via Grub Hub), and it was Excellent! The Pad Thai, Fried Rice and Veg Spring rolls, and Tea were bomb. (I am vegetarian) And they give you a lot. The other Super cool thing here, is they have a couple of options for your 🐶. My dogs LOVED their meal (Beef and Broccoli 🥦). So dog lovers check this place out. It’s our new fav.
Some of the best Thai food I’ve ever had! Thai is always a favorite but Morningside is a can’t miss in Houston. Pad Kee Mao and Claypot were our entrees; both noodle dishes with vastly different, equally delicious flavor. The claypot was sweet and gingery, the Pad Kee Mao was just classic delicious wide noodles, savory and hard to stop eating. We started with fish cakes and soup (tom kha gai) both were incredible. This was our second visit. On our ‘can’t miss’ every time we visit Houston. Takeout seems popular but it’s such a cute, well-decorated, cozy spot.
This is our first time visit and drive around in Houston ~ found this Thai restaurant from google and decided to give it a try! WOW! It turned out they have very decent food and all the dishes we ordered were really flavorful ! we ordered trying tiger, papaya salad, calamari.. This restaurant is a must try! The restaurant is kinda small but the business is good! They have very busy night, even past dinner time like 7:30-8 pm … I highly recommend you give it a try you love Thai food like I do!
My mother in law and I ate here for lunch. I had Pad Thai and it was good. My mother in law had the steak, rice and peppers and she enjoyed it. Lunch prices were excellent.
I ordered the shrimp TomYum soup mild but it came out extremely spicy. I enjoyed the flavors and the mushrooms in the soup. Overall good bur mild was like really spicy.
Food was pretty good. I ordered for takeout and requested curbside but it seems they aren't doing that. Very small restaurant with only a few tables, but there were 2 other people that entered same time as me to pickup takeout so it seems that's a large part of their business. The food was very good and the portions were large.
We ordered tom yum soup, morningside clay pot, pad thai noodles, and a thai tea. The ambience was amazing. Its a small place with a max of 25 seating probably. The service was great too. Now, We were a bit disappointed with the food. Especially the chicken in the Morningside clay pot was undercooked. The pad thai were just OK for the price.
We try lunch special Basil Chicken for $9.95. It is really2 good. Tasty and delicious. Too bad, it is not in the lunch list, so we don't get free spring roll and soup. I wish ..... The dumpling just ok. But not bad at all to try. Pad Thai too sweet for us. We will pass for this food. Thai fried rice is really recommended. Remind me with original fried rice from Thailand. Now, Prik Nam Pla sauce is so good.
I ordered takeout as soon as the restaurant opened and tried the suggested items from the manager's recommendation. Customers came and went as I waited and waited. I kept being told my order was coming out in a minute, they were supposedly finishing up preparing it. As I left out to my car to wait, repeatedly checking to see if it was ready, people continued to come and get orders. One costumer ate while I waited. Still no food, finally I got upset and told them they had given my order away which was denied but they had to prepare it again treating me as if I didn't know but failed to know as they spoke in Spanish, I knew what happened. A server apologized and said to ask the manager to give me a complimentary lunch item for them giving away my order which he would not do, not even offer a complimentary drink. Needless to say I'll never return and if I could notify the owner, I'd definitely file a complaint. Less than an acceptable experience.
Good to order family style so you can share and try multiple dishes. All food was flavorful and they let you choose your spice level. Red curry is rich and sweet, so if you want it more spicy go for the higher spice level; we ordered it medium spicy. Crispy chicken was cooked great and was perfect with our rice. Didn’t get a picture of the baby egg rolls, but they are really good!!
The food here is quite good. We have visited on several occasions, and the quality of the food has consistently been high. However, with the exception of the Thai milk tea, we would advise against ordering other beverages. For instance, the black milk tea has a distinct chemical sweetener taste, lacking any discernible tea flavor or genuine lemon. We also believe that the service could be enhanced if the staff were to smile and make eye contact when taking orders or checking on customers. While the restaurant is small and has the potential for a warm and inviting ambiance & vibe, it currently does not fully achieve this.
4.5. Food is authentic. Red curry at a hot spice level was pretty spicy but still flavorful. Ground chicken basil with fried egg was nice. Fried egg was medium-small size. Thai spice level wasn’t as hot as the red curry though. Overall, good. Knocked off half a point, partly for waiting a while for my food. I recommend
Overall a good experience in the restaurant. Pad woon sen was tasty, but can use a little spice. A little chili powder on request fixed that. Gai kra pao was tasty and Thai hot as ordered, but could use more basil. Thai hot is definitely fire! Fried Eggplant was very good by itself, the accompanying sauce was too sweet and thick. Fried banana and coconut ice cream dessert was delicious.
I really wanted to like this place and had high hopes that this would be our new spot as it is right down the road. I ordered the yellow curry with tofu. Overall, it was good. The reason why I am giving 3 stars is because there was a significant issue with the tofu. The flavor was fishy and almost like plastic. Other than that, it was lacking flavor which is not typical for tofu at a Thai restaurant. I really want to support local restaurants and I wish I could give this a better review, but 1/3 of the dish was inedible, and this place isn't particularly cheap. Maybe they could review their tofu recipe; the flavor, how they cook it, etc. and improve? I'd be willing to come back and try again.
I went there several times. I like their food and also the fact that it is so calm and quiet inside. It surely has a home like vibe. The problem is their customer service has deteriorated a lot. The first time I went there the girl who was taking care of us was so nice. I was really amazed. After that there is always a guy and I had bad experience with him twice. The last time I went there was probably last week. The guy was behaving weird. As soon as we finished eating he was there to take the payment I was just drinking water after finishing my last bite. His attitude was like as if we were running away without paying the money.
We did not like the highly publicized Pad Thai, it looked great from pics, and reviewers seemed to like it. I have had great Pad Thai- did not even eat half. I did like the rice fried- Crispy Chicken, it was a little spicy, even though we said mild, but had a good flavor. Not sure i will return. I like Thai Cottage and Som Boon Pad Thai so much more. Thai Cottage is not opened on Sunday, so we gave this place a shot.
I don’t usually have high expectations of Asian restaurants in USA. But even with lowered expectations, this restaurant is more than disappointing. We ordered Pad Thai, Green Curry Pork and Baby egg rolls. Staff promised everything is made in-house and egg rolls filling is mince beef and vermicelli. We asked in advance for Pad Thai to be less sweet. It came with eight prawns, noodles with eggs, bean sprouts, peanuts in small bowl, all separated for customers to mix in. Caution for allergy I suppose, which is thoughtful but taste is just so so. The disappointment sets in as the green curry looked bright green and tasted blend which is a polite description. There were exactly 5 slices of pork in the whole bowl of curry. It is mostly soup with a few pieces of egg plant and onions. Then the baby egg rolls were burnt and filled with mushy paste which I cannot distinguish what I am eating. So hence the two stars is for the edible Pad Thai and nope, I am not going back! Sorry I only took pictures after I decided to write a bad review, which I don’t do very often.
We're vegetarian and have eaten here for years. We loved the food. We were told today that the curries are NOT vegetarian. We were told by the server that they all contain shrimp paste and we've been "ingesting meat all this time". No apology, no concern, no thought about how traumatic this can be for a vegetarian to have unknowingly been eating meat for years. This was made ten times worse by our server rudely implying that we must have not checked before and that we've just been "ingesting meat every time" we came. When we visited first, and many times after we asked if the curries were vegetarian and told yes, when ordered with tofu. The menu reflects this as well, showing a vegetarian/vegan marker next to the tofu in the protein selection portion. This is gross negligence and a shameful failure on the part of the restaurant. For anyone with dietary restrictions but moreover for people with allergies. This could cause substantial physical harm to anyone with a shellfish allergy. Any reasonable person would assume a curry without meat shouldn't contain meat. And beyond that, we have asked servers each time and expressed that we are vegetarian when ordering. Vegetarians: STAY AWAY FROM MORNINGSIDE THAI.
Ordered drunken noodle and panang curry to go. Both turned out to be mediocre, and the worst, way too spicy! Why? For my part, I forgot to specify; for their part, the waiter didn’t even mention it and just assume a spiciness. Disappointing experience
Had to stand in store 27 minutes to get a order that was order before I arrived. So called manager wasn't helpful service is slow and sarcastically polite. Food comes out slow amd when asked manger to check he refused.
This used to be my go to place mainly because I ordered from UberEats. I decided to order online on my way home from work one day and just pick up. I experienced the WORST possible situation ever from this restaurant- the so called‘manager’, Juan, rudely yells at me, gaslighted me into saying they didn’t have an order from me, which I ordered online with my debit card. I showed him order confirmation in email AND the charge on my debit card. He STILL WANTED TO ARGUE WITH ME SAYING THEY DIDNT HAVE IT! When I just suggested that he reenter the order because that would be the solution, he wanted to argue with me and say that I was arguing! All I was doing is making a resolution to the issue! He was rude, abrasive, combative and yelling at the top of lungs at me! I told him he was being emotional and wrong for arguing with me especially since I was simply trying to get to a resolution! 1. I had PAID for my order. 2. I was there to just simply pick up my order SO WHY WAS HE STUCK ON SAYING THEY DIDNT HAVE ORDER! Ok we had established that already is what I told him -was simply trying to move forward to a resolution is what i said AGAIN! At. that point, I had enough of the disrespect, asked for manager- he said he was and then, I asked for owner. He refused to tell me owner name. So, I asked if owner can call me. He called, rolled his eyes at ME, in his feminine, snippy way, refused to put me on phone with owner, lied and said I WAS ARGUING when HE WAS!!! Gaslighting a hundred percent! Then, continued with story of them not having my order that I had clearly showed him a confirmation for it! If your online system takes payments and malfunctions, you should discontinue the service with them! DONT DISRESPECT PATRONS WHO HAVE SUPPORTED YOUR BUSINESS FOR THREE YEARS!!!! Horrible! NEVER AGAIN! Juan should be fired for not knowing how to handle or d escalate issues! I’ve been a customer service manager over 27 years! NEVER HAVE BEEN DISRESPECTED SO MUCH IN MY LIFE!! I will tell everyone I know who likes Thai to not order from you again! I’ve emailed several times but Juan probably has been deleting them from your gmail account!!! UPDATE- Firstly, I had already mentioned that I showed him the charge going thru on my Chase app…. Secondly, you are not reprimanding or addressing your employee’s lack of respect or ability of de-escalation. This shows tolerance of the behavior to your establishment and disregard for the suggestion of eliminating the problem employee… I appreciate the apology and lastly, it was not ordered through uber eats/third party. It was your failed website and so, I believe you should eliminate the system if it malfunctions. It was the source of the fiasco…….
If you’re looking for an authentic Thai experience, this is not the place. Don’t be misled by the reviews. We are big fans of Thai food and have tried many truly authentic Thai restaurants, so we were excited to try this one because of its high ratings—but it was very disappointing. The food was either bland or overly salty. The Yum Neau (Thai beef salad) was just over-fried beef with a few pieces of salad on top. When we mentioned that the dish was too salty, the waiter simply said it was because of the fish sauce. They remade the dish and brought it back without any explanation or apology, and it was still overly salted. Overall, it was a disappointing experience, and we definitely won’t be coming back.
