The Lore of the Land

We visited Lore of the Land on our first date day after having a baby. We booked around March 2024 to come in January 2025. The food and portions were exceptional. The only slight blip was some of the wait staff were friendlier than others. But it didn't overly tarnish our day out.

This is a posh pub. We didn't have time to change so rocked up in shorts and tshirt. All the men were wearing shirt and trousers.. The staff didn't bat an eyelid (bless them!) and welcomed us. Food was excellent. Cocktails were tasty and varied. Only small eating area so would assume that it gets full quickly. £££ so not a budget place but worth ever penny.

Very unique and cosy setting. The food had a very nice twist z especially the monk fish. We had to ask the chefs how they prepared the smoked butter as we could not get enough of it. :)

We wanted to come here after seeing our favorite YouTuber, Gary Eats visit. I had the combo roast with lamb and beef. My wife had the chicken. Both were amazing. The gravy was spot on. The staff were friendly and welcoming. Great service from start to finish. We will be back.

Fantastic. Old school hospitality, a beautiful restaurant and building. The menu was varied and phenomenal. Excellent cocktails, delicious crisp beer. Already daydreaming of my next visit.

After waiting 12 months to try the Sunday roast, we where not disappointed. The best roast I've ever eaten out. Service was 10/10 and the food was incredible. All the meats where cooked perfectly, veg was so tasty and the roast spuds where proper roast spuds! Paired with lots of red wine it was a fabulous way to spend a Sunday. We will definitely be returning.

Such nice food! We booked 5 months in advance & went for a festive friend meal (unfortunately we couldn’t get the festive menu but they kindly brought out Christmas crackers). The venison carpaccio was delicious, as was the duck. The building was gorgeous; I love all the original features they’ve kept. Recommended!

Waited 11 months for the roast and it did not disappoint. We had the mixed roasts of beef/ pork and beef/lamb to try a range of things. Everything was lovely! If I had to nitpick would want slightly thicker gravy but otherwise it ticked all the boxes. Great potatoes, gravy on the side, all sauces, great Yorkshire and great meat! Dessert was lovely and the service was excellent, highly recommend even if it’s a long booking time!

The best Sunday roast I have had. Everything we had was excellent we shared the beef & slow lamb . Very large portions. Very good red cabbage & carrots. Gravy & all the sauces excellent! Lovely atmosphere & staff was a little slow but very relaxed; in a good way 😌

Food was superb! Best Sunday roast we've had, and we've had a fair few! Venison tartare, scotch egg, smoked butter, the bread, all amazing! We had the sharing roast and it disappeared sharpish! No fault whatsoever! Melt in your mouth beef and lamb! Doughnut and cream dessert was delicious. Can't recommend enough. Shout out to the staff and chef too. Absolutely brilliant! I would have taken more photos but I was too bust tucking in!

I had a fantastic experience at Lore of the Land for our Anniversary. The service was excellent from start to finish, with very friendly and genuinely helpful staff who made us feel welcome straight away. The décor is lovely, with a classic old-style pub feel that creates a warm, relaxed atmosphere. We tried both the vegetarian and vegan starters, followed by the new vegetarian and vegan mains, and everything was absolutely delicious. The side of pink potatoes was a real highlight too. Drinks were great, with a strong selection on tap, and for such a very popular London pub, the prices were surprisingly reasonable. A wonderful atmosphere, great food, and outstanding service — we’ll definitely be back again.

Cosy, rustic, and has a warm elegance to it. Lovely, accommodating staff who are full of beans. Place is dog friendly but only downstairs not at the restaurant upstairs so we had the smaller snack plates downstairs. Wine and bloody Mary’s were perfect. The food had so much flavour, every bite was delicious. Excited to come back to try the restaurant.

We had a fantastic meal here on a dark December Tuesday evening. The oub downstairs was packed but lively and comfortable. The bar staff were friendly and helpful. We had a table booked for food but we could enjoy a drink in the bar first and leisurely made our way upstairs for dinner after. The eating area is cosy and relaxed with full view of the kitchen. Waiting staff were friendly and helpful in explaining the gluten free options on the menu. We had the cured trout and ancient grains starters, and the monk fish and the buckwheat risotto mains. All the food was excellent and we thoroughly enjoyed our indulgent evening!

Had an amazing lunch here yesterday. Food was amazing. The little gem salad with miso and bitter lemon might just be the best thing I've eaten in years. The cod tempura was perfectly cooked and gluten free. The only thing I did think was wonderful was the desert: chocolate torte, it lacked flavor and was just ok. Atmosphere is good. But the room is quite loud when full. Service was stellar; friendly and efficient. All in all, a great pub lunch and I would definitely recommend.

We booked a table for 4 for a Sunday roast nearly 6 months ago and it was absolutely worth the wait. We wanted to try as much as possible. We started with the duck scotch egg and bread with lovage. Bloody delicious but kept plenty of room for the sharing platter for 4. Crispy pork, succulent chicken, crispy lamb and delicious steak beef with the biggest roasties. Nobody spoke for the 15 minutes we devoured this. 10/10, no notes. Deserts were pretty epic too. Thoroughly recommend!!

Probably the best roast we've had for a long time! A years wait but definitely worth it! It was a really nice atmosphere and the staff were all very helpful and attentive. Had the duck scotch egg to start and was absolutely delicious. We had the sharing roast for main, everything was so tasty. The veg, yum! The potatoes, crispy and fluffy, and the meat was just melt in your mouth. Not too expensive, and worth every penny! The boys were very happy with their donut deserts and ate them before we could get a picture. Great choice of wines and cocktails.

Every dish we ordered was phenomenal, from the popcorn and cod starters to the main dishes and dessert! The service was exceptional and the music was the perfect vibe for the night. Highly recommend making a reservation here for date night or another special occasion! Can’t wait to come back :)

I had seen Lore Of The Land on social media and thought the food looked amazing so I had to book a table so we could find out of it was as good as it looked. It did not disappoint us at all, in fact it was better than I expected. Hubby and I both had the Venison tartare as a starter and it was the best starter I’ve ever eaten, the flavours were out of this world. I had the pork loin to follow, which was just as good and Hubby had the beef cheek that I sampled a bite of and it was also delicious. The atmosphere was fab, the staff were helpful, friendly and very efficient…we had no complaints whatsoever, well apart from the 3 flights of stairs to the toilets but that’s because I’m so unfit! 😆 This place is a hidden gem in the back streets of London and we’ll definitely be visiting again in the future, as well as recommending to family and friends.

Waited a long time for this Sunday lunch and not disappointed at all. Everything was excellent, we were early but they had a table for us, Scotch Egg was to die for and Sunday lunch was divine, lovely tender lamb and succulent pork, crispy roast pots were as advertised, but fluffy inside, Yorkshire Pudding perfectly risen and crisp and being a Lancastrian there were lashing of gravy ( or sauce) as the Waitress called it! Salted caramel donut for afters and even a little birthday cake with a candle for me ( 62 candles light, but hey! ). Excellent all round, can only book a year a head! No wonder! And an awesome selection of music!

We had a starters only dinner the other night and each plate topped our expectations! The brilliance of flavours and soul behind each bite is really exceptional. The staff is so kind and friendly and the kitchen folk are dedicated to the best experience. We went back again a couple days later to try the pork loin and it was divine. Do try the triple-cooked potatoes—they both crunch and dissolve in your mouth! If you’re considering Sunday brunch you could be looking at a 2-3 month wait as they’ve topped the review charts in a few key publications. Word is out!

Absolutely incredible Sunday Roast. The gravy, the Yorkshire pudding, meats (I chose the combo lamb plus pork), vegetables and side sauce all working in harmony to drive those true flavours home. Pork with great crunchy crackle, and the beef fat potatoes were stand outs for me, as well as getting the additional bone marrow which really melted in my mouth. But my true hero could've been the duck Scotch egg to start. Accompanied with a delicious Hoisin sauce, the outer crunch, duck casing and slightly runny yolk hit the spot. I could just have a plate of those. The Lore of the Land truly nails it. I assumed being a hyped Guy Ritchie pub it could be underwhelming with small portions, but the plate was absolutely loaded and everything delicious. Finishing with the classic sticky toffee pudding, it was pleasantly much lighter and airy than expected, with a really burnt butter Caramel sauce to enhance all those classic sticky toffee spices. Lovely wait staff and very pleasant atmosphere.

Lovely pub, friendly with a nice selection of beers, delicious scotch eggs and beautiful fresh oysters, will be back soon.

Very impressed. Great food, beer and ambience. The Stout is next level, and worth visiting just for this: nice creamy taste with hints of chocolate and coffee. Also recommend the Bitter on hand pump. Food wise, scotch egg and cheese board were yum. Overall, lots of care and attention to detail. 5* make the trip and visit.

I picked up this place via recommendation on Instagram, and I am glad I did. Definitely off the beaten track, but well worth finding. Traditional pub downstairs but with a dining room and private dining upstairs. The food is incredible, tasty and generous with its portions. Don't forget to try a pint of Guy's beer from his own brewery.

This place was amazing the year wait for the Sunday roast was well worth the wait, booking is essential but you won’t regret it the food was amazing the flavours were astounding, the staff were so friendly, the atmosphere was perfect (I suffer with anxiety and I felt relaxed even tho was a little busy) beautiful old building and Guy Richie’s pale ale was very pleasant

I was lucky to have a table for 2 to treat my friend for his birthday and I can honestly say that my experience went beyond my expectation! The hype around the pub is definitely so well deserved! The food was amazing and staff was really lovely and so welcoming! A particular thank is for Alexis who went far and beyond to accommodate my booking. The pub customer service from alexis and the team ( Marta was very lovely throughout the service) is top notch! I am soo looking forward to going back soon! Truly amazing!

We managed to strike gold somehow and get a Sunday roast booking. We loved the meal! They offer combo meat options which was great for me and catered to dietary requirements without any fuss which we really appreciated.

Absolutely great food, service and atmosphere. Bought out a pudding for the other half with a lit candle in it as I’d said it was her birthday ( would have preferred champagne obviously 😂😉) Tables not too close together like some London places. Will definitely be back.

Roasts are a very personal thing, the juices could do with being thicker but we were late in service and it was all amazing. Nothing seemed to be kept warm and the flavours were awesome! Definately go if you can wait!!

The staff were friendly and attentive throughout. Food selection is generous with some unique offerings and everything we ordered was delightful. However, it's somewhat on the expensive side, and as good as the dishes were, it's not a value for money place. Three courses and drinks will set you back ~70 pounds...

Sunday Roast Review - 3.5/5 Summary: A good roast with a ludicrous booking leadtime and questionable baby change / accessible toilet facilities. Full Review: What can you do in the time between making a booking and sitting down at the table? My partner and I conceived and had a baby boy (I'm not joking). While I understand that from a commercial standpoint, having 9 months of bookings is great, it is so inaccessible for customers, and circumstances change. Even popular Michelin starred restaurants typically have a 3 month rolling booking window. Fortunately the team were able to add our new arrival to the booking and organise a table in an accessible place, which was appreciated. We started with a scotch egg which is absolutely slamming, a must have - 8.8/10. For the roast, we took the sharing board which included chicken, beef and pork as well as the typical trimmings. The meat, yorkshire pudding and gravy were excellent. Potato's were good and we added some bone marrow which was good too. The vegetables, a pea and carrot combo, felt like an after thought. Distinctly average, and didn't compliment the roast. Since we'd waited 9 months since booking, my expectations were very high and it wasn't as special as I was expecting it to be - 7.7/10. As we finished the meal, I needed to change my son and asked for access to the baby changing facility. As I went in, the toilet was filled with cleaning goods, polls and boxes, meaning I could barely fit the pram in. For a restaurant of it's calibre, this was really poor. It is also worth noting that this is an accessible toilet too, and if it had have been someone needing to use the facilities in a wheelchair for example, they wouldn't have been able to. I spoke to the host to provide them with this feedback as we were leaving and was essentially ignored which I found really disappointing. Perhaps it was an off day or someone had made a mistake, I would have been happy with an explanation and apology, but was left thinking nothing would be done about it for the next guests who need to use it. Overall, this left a bit of a sour taste after our meal.

The place had been suggested by a local and visiting the UK for the first time we decided to give it a shot. Many seating options available and a really cozy but elegant vibe. We got two starters and two main dishes. Venison tartare was so incredibly good! On the other hand the risotto was disappointing, I couldn’t even finish the whole thing. The rest was okay. Nothing crazy. We expected so much more as it is so talked about. Staff was attentive but didn’t meet our expectations.

This is a pub that leans towards higher end, fine dining food - service was great. The starters are quite pricey but food quality is good. I loved my main dish (duck) and potatoes. However, one thing to improve is definitely the temperature, too hot on a Summer day without air conditioning. The environment felt a bit crowded although serving higher end food. Will try again in Winter!

Very cute pub with nice decor and atmosphere. Unfortunately the wait staff in the dining area were quite rude and unfriendly. They basically snapped at us when we asked which of the meals it was that was being handed out as one person had dietary restrictions and couldn’t have dairy. They seemed very put off and were taking it out on the customers. I’d be down to try it again sometime as the menu had nice selection, but that being said the quality/price ratio wasn’t necessarily great either.
