Best BBQ in Lubbock and the best people! We typically get sliced beef, sausage and trimmings, but if you don’t try their chili at least once you’re missing a real treat. We don’t go anywhere else.

First time going to this establishment. Service was excellent. Food was excellent. Ordered a one meat combo -- brisket with two sides - mac-n-cheese and fries. Numerous BBQ places have good meat and marginal sides (or vice versa). It's rare when both the BBQ and the sides are top notch. This place makes great meat and sides. Brisket was moist and lean. Flavor was spot on. Had spicy BBQ sauce. It was very good. In today's world of escalating prices, their prices were very reasonable. A good value and good product. Would definitely recommend.

The food was delicious! I ordered the two meat plate with sliced brisket and smoked turkey breast. I also had fried okra and potato salad as my sides. The food was brought out at a timely manner and the wait staff was friendly and helpful. I will definitely be going back the next time I'm in town

The best customer service I’ve experienced so far. Everyone was so friendly, accommodating. I didn’t feel rushed, or like I was in the way. The food is great & the atmosphere is calm and quiet.

I went to order some food in person and the beautiful people working all greeted me and really took the time to converse with me while I was waiting for my order, which they always do. I told them I only slept 4 or 5 hours last night and then one of the employees named Vincent asked me what my name was. After I told him, he told me he was going to pray for me and then began quoting scripture (Isaiah 54:17 I believe). These people CARE. They love on their customers and with the biggest smiles on their faces too. I feel welcome every single time I step foot in there, and today I felt seen. It made my day! The food here is awesome, but these people are what make it amazing. Go support them, you won't be disappointed!

Couldn’t even begin to tell you how amazing our experience was. We came in and obviously knew they were busy but talked to other guests also waiting to get food. The person who served us (possibly the owner?) was so nice, served us fast, kept us updated, and even extended a BOGO deal since we waited. Food was amazing, service was impeccable. Will definitely be returning and would recommend this place to any Lubbock barbecue lover!

This barbecue is as good as it ever was, but pulling up and smelling that smoker is an nirvana experience all itself. Had the sliced brisket, ribs and pulled pork, with some amazing sides. Super friendly wait staff who was help along with very kind to the kids we had with us 10 out of 10 would grub down again!

J & M has been around a long while and has changed ownership over the years. But it feels the same and the food is still good. I think I first went in 1995. Anyway, this past visit was nice - really friendly people and good bbq.

I stopped here as I was passing through. Super friendly staff! The mashed potatoes and gravy, as well as the Mac and cheese were both homemade and delicious. The brisket was perfect, and their sauce is great. Well worth the stop if you're in the area.

Update: haven't been here for almost a year. Have the cherry cobbler. This place is SO good. The staff is phenomenal. I have been several times and not found anything to dislike. Also, the cobbler is amazing! Definitely recommend J & M!

Great meal! Potato Salad was mustard based and had a nice tang to it. Mac n Cheese was some of the best I've had and our picky kids both devoured it....Brisket was moist and husband said the pork spare ribs were the best he had ever had. We ordered two of their two meat plates and it fed all four of us and we had left overs.

Food was stomped down delicious!! I’ve had a peach cobbler itch for the past few months. I ordered peach cobbler at several restaurants and it only made the itch worse but this peach cobbler hit the SPOT!!! Perfect! I wish I ordered more but after so many not so good I didn’t want to take a chance. These people know what they are doing! If you like southern bbq and desserts check them out. Sorry, the only pics I have is unflattering clean rib bones and empty plates and bowls. Maybe next time

In town for business, stopped by to get some BBQ on my way to the hotel. Todd; who seemed like he might be the owner; was very friendly. Good food, had the brisket, German sausage and a few ribs. Fall off the bone ribs, and very tender brisket. I will definitely be making this a standard place for me when I'm in town. I recommend.

We were given the wrong address to pick up food for a wedding. This is the location it took us to. Even though we were in the wrong location they were willing to take our order and get us food made before the wedding and deliver. We ended. That is Amazing customer service! It also smelled Amazing! We will be stopping in next time we are in town.

Ordered some baby back ribs, sliced brisket and sides. Coming thru the doors you can smell the smokey smell of bbq. Meats were very tender. Good tasted. Tried regular and spicy bbq sauce. They were both good but I preferred the taste. There was no wait for being after church on sunday. Refills kept coming. Staff was very very welcoming and nice.

I absolutely loved J&M barbecue. I visited from out of town and they treated me so well!! Their chopped beef is really good but their turkey is the best turkey I’ve ever had yall no joke. I stopped again on 02/25/2025 after driving 1.7 hours to get here And Brenda was my waitress I ordered the 2 meat plate of brisket and ribs along with potato salad, red beans and okra. Not only is the food delicious and full of flavor but Brenda was a gracious host never had to ask for anything Do yourself a favor and stop and enjoy

Got the chopped brisket sandwich and it was delicious. Great flavor and some good chunks of beef in it to give it good bite. I got the "spicy" BBQ sauce with it and it was really good, a little sweet with some kick at the end. Will def go back, when I'm in Lubbock again and work my way through more of the menu. Best Frito Pie I’ve had in a long time. Substituted pulled pork instead of beef. Service was excellent, would definitely recommend eating there.

Both locations are great. But I like the store on 82nd st a little better. The staff is awesome it is like they are family. I eat there about 3 times a week. I will be going back to j and m again definitely. Probably tomorrow!

Nice small BBQ place. You know you are in the right place right when you walk through the door and smell that deliciousness​. Brisket, turkey, chicken, sauce, Mac and cheese, ribs all amazing. Everything is homemade here. Also the staff is very inviting and treats you like friends. Ordering the Cherry or Peach Cobbler is a must, this is important!

Brisket was great. Nice smoke ring. Generous portion. Make potatoes and gravy were good. My daughter had the stuffed baked potato and really liked it. Good meal.

We had J&M BBQ cater our son’s wedding rehearsal dinner. Food cost was very reasonable and there was a lot of it! People were able to have second helpings and we still brought some home. Many guests complimented the great taste. Delivery was great and on time. Todd was fantastic to work with and we will definitely use them again!

After living by J&M for over a year now, we finally decided to try it and wish we would have gone sooner! I had the baked potato with chopped beef and was the perfect portions and taste. My husband and friend got the chopped brisket and turkey and said it was phenomenal. This time I got the German sausage sandwich plate with the same sides. Food was cooked consistently flawless and easy on the eyes. The atmosphere is that of a movie scene or a music video. Good tasty food. It's a bit on the pricey side for the food, but BBQ is always on the more expensive side. I asked if their regular sausage was spicy. I was told no. It was. That was a shame because spicy food is not my favorite, and I would have chosen something else. Pretty decent meal overall. Don't order either type of sausage if you don't like spicy food. Skip the cobbler as well. It wasn't good at all. My total bill was $28 (rounded up).

I’d like to start by saying I’m not from Lubbock so trying to find a bbq place on a Monday was almost impossible for some reason lol. But thankfully we were able to find this place! Their food is super yummy and pretty reasonable as well. I personally loved the pork ribs and the brisket the most. Staff is super sweet and are always there to serve. The environment is super friendly as well and the food came very fast which was nice as there wasn’t a long wait at all. Overall great place!

Amazing! Amazing BBQ! Found the restaurant on Hooked app and decided to went here with a friend for lunch and we both enjoyed the meal! The waitress is super friendly and nice. The service was really quick! I got a sliced brisket sandwich with a side of mac and cheese. Even though I don’t really care for the mac and cheese, the sandwich got me stunned! The buns is perfectly toasted, juicy brisket with a dip of their BBQ sauce is phenomenal! I was surprised that the restaurant was not packed with people!!! Definitely will recommend this place to everyone and I will definitely come back more frequently!

Visiting from central TX I was looking for a good example of Lubbock que. J&M was definitely a hit for me. The brisket was cooked just right and just the right amount of fat. The sauce was good but not needed, I just wish it was a little spicier, the "spicy" option did not do much for my hill country pallette. Worth a trip if you're visiting!

We usually love J&M when dining in, but every time we order for pick up, something ends up missing. Besides my second side being missing, and the bbq sauce for my bbq sandwich the food was good. Cherry cobbler tasted old and the crust was literally hard as a rock. Super disappointing today!

Food was ok. Sliced brisket was tender, pork ribs were a bit chewy. Not a fan of the baked beans. Disappointed that they use Sweet Baby Ray's BBQ sauce rather than in house made.

Great prices, but you get what you pay for. I got ribs and brisket, and they were both incredibly dry and lacking in flavor. The ribs were actually tough. I'm willing to consider that I went at dinnertime, and maybe by the end of the day, the meats have been kept warm too long, but it was a pretty big disappointment. Service was good and friendly, and dessert was good - get the cobbler, and ask for half cherry, half peach! The other thing that stood out was that they don't have music. It felt like we were there after hours or something, and it was hard to not hear every conversation going on around us. Probably won't be back.

The food tasted great…I ordered a large sliced brisket & German sausage sandwich. I was very disappointed at the lack of meat in my sandwich! Lots of bun and lacking in meat! Especially for the price! I won’t be back! I left the restaurant hungry and my wallet drained!

First time eating here. I’m a big brisket fan. Sadly that was the part of the meal that let me down. I ordered the two meat dinner; brisket and turkey. The turkey was excellent, tender and moist not overcooked o would give it a 4.75 out of 5. Now on the brisket, it was way way over cooked, it was basically tasteless and crumbled luke chopped beef. The Macaroni & Cheese was very good and cheesy. The mashed potatoes were average, needed salt. Grandson had two meat platter. His roast beef same way way overcooked. His sausage was very good 4.5 out if 5. He had Mac n cheese also with okra and it was excellent 5 out if 5. I was so disappointed in the brisket. Maybe it was just a bad day, but I did have someone tell me before coming here that their brisket was way overcooked also.

The presentation of the 2-meat Dinner was underwhelming, but the food tasted okay, I guess. The baked beans, however, looked and tasted like unflavored mush. We threw them in the garbage after just a few bites. The cherry cobbler had a weird texture. Like, the breading was gritty, similar to cornbread. Very strange. Overall, we will not be ordering from here again.

We had a late night craving for BBQ. We decided to eat here as the reviews were good. We got there and the staff was a mess. I don't know what happened before we got there, but the staff were all arguing with each other. The staff was disheleveld. We got our food quick and they forgot my okra. I got it about five minutes later. No worries there. The food was good. Was it the best BBQ I've ever had. Nope. Was it edible? Yes! Would I come back? Not really. I'll try other places next time.

We went to eat after church a little after 1 pm, the place had several patrons but it wasn't busy. Several others walked in after we had given our order and we all waited a long time to get our orders. It took about 15 to 20 minutes for our food. I ordered the special of a large bbq sandwich with a side of what they called baked beans, which they were not baked beans they were simply pinto beans, so that disappointed me, including a drink and my husband ordered 3 meat plate with 2 side and he got a drink. I did not like the way they over prepped the bun with to much "butter" in order to brown the bun. My husband was happy with all his food. The server we had was friendly and did her best for us. There was another server working the floor that we both noticed , unfortunately she seemed to have a bad attitude all around, and it ruined the whole atmosphere for me and my husband. 9/10/2017

Food was terrific but there service was bad. Waitress never came over to see if i was doing fine. She only attended the white people and a colored couple. I needed a glass of water. But never was able to get the waitress attention. So i just got up and walk over to pay my bill.

My group was the only one in the restaurant but service was still pretty slow and the server was not very attentive. The food was mediocre at best. The sausage was ok, but the ribs were tough and not very flavorful. The brisket was pretty dry and tough. It was later in the day so that may have been why the meat was dry and tough. The dining area was pretty worn down fairly dingey with a lot of stained worn surfaces.

Walked in and it was just a weird atmosphere, no music was playing which made it supperrr quiet, our waitress was super timid and was almost whispering. Staff in general wasn’t welcoming and weird anyway. We decided to leave because we didn’t feel comfortable eating there. Staff looked at us super weird when we left🤣 Don’t let me deter you, we didn’t even try the food but but for good reason at least to our discretion😂

BBQ tends to be more pricey understandably, but there is NO WAY I would've paid that much had I known how subpar the food was going to be. Beans and jalapeno sausage were semi okay but looked like they had been under a heat lamp for 10 hours. Brisket tasted like it had been boiled instead of smoked. No flavor at all. The mashed potatoes did not have any flavor, but I will admit their brown gravy was very good. I hadn't eaten here in years, but was excited to try it again. Lesson learned, won't be back.

I ordered for Uber Eats delivery and it was a disappointment. Might be okay for dinner in, but sides on the 2 meat plate were skimpy They ran out before the meat leaving meat all by itself. Extra side of slaw was a mini cup . As for taste the brisket was just okay The jalapeño sausage was good wasn’t a lot of meat in the beans & meat bowl For 2 entrees portion size was the issue for the price.

I ordered delivery. I was put on hold while she answered other calls. When she did answer she called me mam, when I corrected her and said I was a sir she continued to call me mam. She had my name they should be more considerate to their customers. When I received the food the brisket was dry and flakey there was no utensils, napkins, and straws. They also didn't give me the onions, pickles and peppers I ordered I called back before closing and told them about the omissions. The lady that answered the phone didn't offer an apology and had a snotty voice when she asked if I still wanted them brought to me. I said yes I waited two hours before I ate my food without the extras I ordered. They used to be good the many times I ate there. I spent over $31. I will never go there or order delivery ever again. If you want to be disappointed go there.

Place wasn't bad really nice on the inside but once you were seated you got the menu and the waitress asked what you wanted to drink and than asked if we were ready to order and she took our order but didn't come out how we order I had asked for potato salad and a slice of sausage and when and my husband asked for chopped brisket and I didn't get my sides and my husband sandwich was wrong and she didn't even check to see if everything was right. So when we got our food she said "I don't know which one is which" and left us to figure it out. Would not recommend. We will not be returning

Y'all tried to rip me off. I ordered $40 and tipped a to go order. For one I had to ask the cashier how she was doing today. Very unexceptable considering she has a customer service job. I ordered and she says that's it right. As if your business is broke. You can't even afford to provide food for what I purchased. When I went to pick up my order more then half of my order was not inside my bag. And this male made a comment "did she pay already" while eating on the job. Yuck. So unsanitary. I go back inside and I handed the lady my recipet and the bag of half my order. She says what are you missing. Hmmm I told her I just gave you a receipt of what I ordered and I gave you the bag why don't you look. While they are figuring out like it's rocket science on what I'm missing the man decides to hold a conversation. Aka a distraction to ONCE AGAIN NOT GIVING ME WHAT I PAID FOR. yall ripped me off and I hope you get that right back at ya! Never ever coming to your restaurant and I'm making sure everyone knows.

Wednesday 7:00-7:15pm Rude nasty sloppy (cashier / manager ???)) Blonde ponytail, out of shape very much over weight and especially rude as ever and wear glasses Very unprofess. This female has to have last word and will. Mishandle good customers because she doesn't hear well. And is very very rude and honorary Order two Brisket combos My husbands coleslaw was old, corn 🌽 dried out. He ordered second extra side for himself. My combo was missing french fries She forgot to add my fries to combo and blatantly accused me of lying that I did not order French fries with my side. When after I repeated my order twice. She must have ear wax of decades. Because i gave my order repeated i wanted fries... twice]!! Because she huhhhh. Someone please 🙏 let owner know that the fat rude blonde is very unprofessional and this is😤 so weird that she would argue with me instead of saying " sorry ma'am I did not hear. But I have to charge"... Or could have even apologized period. But instead accuses me of trying to get something free. So I just went acvery very ross the street and bought a 5.00 large fries from kcf. Matter of fact she closed the window in my face twice and hung up on me 3 times when I asked to speak with management. When i called between 7:00-7:15 She is obviously disgusting 🙄 😒 😒 nasty and rude. Just moved into a beautiful home 🏡 new in neighborhood but wont return to that j & m ... with that nasty cashier. We used to love their food, but the last couple of times not so much....tonight the sliced beef was very dry, overcooked, okra was not cooked well...and the portions are definitely smaller than they used to be.

My wife and I want to J&M last evening after about 2 years to try again. I ordered the sliced brisket dinner which was very good. HOW EVER….. the menu had to add ribs for $2.00, so I took it. When we got the bill, NONE of the prices on the bill matched that which was posted on the menu. In fact, I was charged $7.50 for the $2.00 ribs. When the waitress was notified, her excuse was the the prices listed on the menu were not updated to the current pricing in the cash register program. If this is not illegal, it should be. I paid the incorrect bill, and will NEVER return to this restaurant again. BUYER BEWARE!!!

Food was very cold. Advertised Baby Back ribs and was served St Louis Ribs. Pulled pork was ice cold when served. Sweet potato fries were very cold and old. This is my first horrible experience eating out in Lubbock. I did not say anything to the waitress because she was very nice. And I didn't feel like making a scene. I spent $51 for the worst BBQ meal i have ever eaten.

The brisket was dry. Mac had no flavor. The potato salad is store bought but added mustard…the chicken was bland. The sausage was not bad. The service was really good but the food is not there

I paid $32 for what I honestly believe is the worst barbecue spot in town. Everything was beyond dry and flavorless. Nice friendly service though and their barbecue sauce is pretty good as well.

My sister and I come here at least 3x a month for lunch. We love the lemonade here and the brisket sandwich. Today we had a horrible experience. 2x I had to send my fries back due to a hair being fried into the fries. The waiter said she was going to give my kids free ice cream and a cobbler for the trouble. That never came. I spent a little over $40 there.
