This place is awesome. Their food is really delicious, and the service is good. All staffs are very humble and polite. They have a variety of food options - my favorite is the Roti Canai. The ambiance is good, and the restrooms are clean. They are sanitizing restrooms after each use. Overall, a perfect place to eat with family.
Came in for a large group dinner and ordered a ton of dishes. Some notable ones included the Kari Chicken Potato, Sizzling Beef, And Princess Tofu. The food was all super tasty and flavorful. This was also my first time trying Malaysian food so I was pleasantly surprised. Not to mention our server, Chris, was super friendly and helpful when asking for recommendations. 5 stars to him! Was a bit on the pricier side but the portions were generous. Great first experience with Malaysian cuisine and would definitely come back again!
Had lunch at this restaurant on a Saturday afternoon with a couple of friends. Food was great for most of the part except that the tom yam flavor in the Seafood Tom Yam soup is hardly detectable and the portion of the Roti Canoi is too flimsy and little for me (portion shown in the picture is about a third of the serving) considering the price that it is being charged. Special Kudos to both the Beef Rendang and Kang Kong Belachan which received rave reviews from my friends. Also, the coconut rice is nicely cooked as well. Indeed, it is a good restaurant to experience Malaysian cuisine.
I wasn’t hungry when I went here last night but very much keen to try their murtabak! I was in Indonesia few weeks ago and wasn’t able to try their murtabak so have to check restaurants near me offering this dish. Murtabak is like a stuffed pancake/omelette with meat ( here they use chicken), eggs? spices with like a non-spicy curry sauce at the side. It was filling and liked it! The lady owner told me Indonesian murtabak is spicy unlike with the Malaysian version/counterpart. The staff were nice and respectful too! I would definitely be back and try their other food.
Come here on a Saturday afternoon, wasn't too busy. Server took our orders and food arrived pretty quickly. Ordered the curry mee, lamb curry, hokkian noodles and a pineapple fried rice. Lamb curry, and curry mee was as authentic as it can be. YUM! Hokkian mee and pineapple fried rice is OK. Service was attentive and didn't rush us out when they were closed. Let us just sit there to chat and even refill our waters.
EDIT: The food is so good we came back for more. This time we ordered Roti Canai, Veggie Satay, and Pearl Mee Fried Noodles. Pro tip: 🥦 icon means they can make the dish vegetarian! We thoroughly enjoyed our meal today. We stayed in a hotel nearby and was delighted to see a Malaysian restaurant in the vicinity. I was particularly attracted to their vegetarian menu so we ordered 3 vegetarian items: Veggie Chicken Satay, Roti Telur, and Vegetarian Princess Tofu. All of these dishes taste great and are quite authentic, particularly the satay sauce and the Roti Telur. We also love the homemade tofu in the Vegetarian Princess Tofu. Might have to come back once more before we leave.
It was my first time trying Malaysian food. I accidentally visited it out of curiosity, and it was a really exotic taste and a new experience. It was a bit salty for my taste, but it was delicious. We recommend you to visit once. In particular, the deep-fried squid dish was really salty. hahaha
IMO - best Malaysian restaurant in the South Bay area! We had the Nasi Lemak with Beef Rendang and Mee Siam. The Nasi Lemak was deeelicious! And reminded me of the home! Although I prefer my beef rendang dryer, the flavor brought me back to my childhood when I would sometimes get the same dish at the side of the road for a lot cheaper! Haha, but yes definitely a must-try, and yes I strongly encourage the Beef upgrade ;) The Mee Siam was flavorful but not as strong hitting as I wanted it to be even after squeezing 2 lime slices over it. However, it did remind me of Mee Siam back home just wanted the flavors to punch me in the face, you know? Overall, great dining experience and our foods came at record time! Service was nothing to complain about, overall ambience was nice, and the colors all around reminded me of batik kebaya (traditional dress commonly worn in South East Asia)! So yeah, very nice. Will definitely be back to try more dishes!
Layang Layang is a nice cozy Malaysian Cuisine. This is the second time I visited. I had Han Nan Chicken and Roti Canai. It was really good ! I spent $33 for two dishes. The service is good and the interior design is very transitional! Roti Canai: first time trying this, it looks like thin pan cake ! It is not oily and the sauce is amazing ! Hai Nan Chicken: the portion of chicken is a good size and came with chili sauce !
The meal was a tale of two dishes, one of which was truly exceptional. The Kari Noodle was the clear winner and an absolute must-try. The flavor profile was rich, deep, and beautifully layered, showcasing the authentic blend of spices and coconut milk that defines a great curry broth. The noodles were cooked perfectly, and the dish was incredibly satisfying—easily making it a standout menu item. In contrast, the Pineapple Fried Rice was decidedly average. While it looked colorful and tempting, the flavor was serviceable but lacked the vibrant, tangy, sweet-and-savory complexity that elevates this dish. It filled a gap, but it wasn't memorable.
Layang Layang used to be super popular with multiple branches but now the Milpitas one is the only one left. Compared to many other Malaysian/Singaporean restaurants here in the Bay Area this is definitely one of the upper echelon. The Hainan chicken is really good but it's super super annoying that they constantly run out so if you want to eat it you may have to call ahead to make sure they reserve it for you. The Roti Canai is also tasty and freshly made. I like that you get a completely different flavor as you devour it because it goes from chewy to crispy as it cools. Coffee ribs is not as good as another place I've had but decent. The seafood in a nest is so so. Sizzling beef is tender. What I think they should improve on is Singaporean chili prawns which is too sweet and not as good as I've had in Singapore. I wish they have chili crab or black pepper crab but I guess the lack of the Sri Lanka Crab may be why. They made Chow kway Teow non spicy which took away the soul of the dish. I wish they didn't. I do like the pearl mee (mouse tail noodle too) Once again I wish they would offer more Hainan chicken especially letting you choose leg or wing portion. They Chicken Rice needs improvement as it's not aromatic or flavorful. Service is good as they have more waiters than most Asian places so you can get someone to help you with things but the place itself is just a space with some Southeastern decoration. The following is from my review before: I used to come here often before the pandemic and also when it used to also have another location in Cupertino so I'm glad I get to try it again. The food is still good and if you miss Malaysian/Singaporean food this is probably the most authentic and down to earth restaurant to have it. I love the thin roti, the hainan chicken, and chow kueh teow (pan fried noodle). In fact almost all the fried noodles are good especially the mouse tail noodles 👍😋.
We have frequented Layang Layang even when they had their Cupertino location. They are probably the best Malaysian restaurant in the South Bay. We regularly order their princess tofu, roti canal, coconut prawns, coconut soup, mouse tail noodles, sarang seafood, and desserts. Highly recommend if you’re interested in traditional Malay food.
Overall, a decent spot to grab Malaysian food. There is a HUGE menu, so there's definitely something for anyone. Lots of seating inside and it's a cozy family restaurant. I got the Chow Kueh Teow, which tastes quite similar to a Chinese chow fun. But once I added the chili sauce given, it had a lot more flavor! A little spicy... Noodles were great. The squid was cooked perfectly. The shrimp could have been a little better... they were slightly cold(?), but I would order this again! Not bad.
We came in for Sunday lunch as a party of two. There was no waiting time and we were immediately seated. We ordered Princess Tofu, Bak Kut Teh and a bowl of coconut rice to share. I am not sure if it’s authentic Malaysian style, but everything tasted delicious. The soup for Bak Kut Teh was a bit sweet but had a rich herbal aroma. Staff was attentive. Distinctive decor. Quick service. It’s a good place for both solo dining and group gathering.
The place is located in a busy hub at Milpitas. Ample parking in the area. The food is one of the best in the bay area. You can see the picture of the food that you are ordering in the menu before ordering them. The restaurant supported replacing one protein with another. Service and atmosphere not so great as the place is always crowded and they are running to serve everyone. The lunch menu prices are ~16.5. dinner menu will be 3-4$ more
This is very unfortunate to report, I do not like leaving bad reviews. I tend to be very forgiving and understanding, not stress about minor oversights at restaurants . However,I’ve never had food so terribly mediocre at any restaurant EVER. I feel I’m doing a PSA by posting this - eating out is way too expensive these days to waste your money on bland food. Yes, it was that bad. We had three dishes - Chicken Captain Kee - absolutely NO flavor. None. The noodles tasted like whatever package they were in. I’ve never experienced a dish with no flavor before. - Basil Chicken - underwhelming. The baby corn had the most flavor. That says a lot. - Chicken Satay - just ok. Chicken a bit dry, flavor mellow, sauce a weird consistency. Oh we did have roti and that was really excellent. Sadly, it set us up to believe the rest coming would be just as amazing. This was so disappointing because I finally got my teen to try a new place - this is not an easy task! This experience only strengthened his stance on sticking with what he already knows and likes Really wanted to like this place. The service was good and folks were nice. Restaurant is nice and roomy.
Atmosphere is Nice, but the Food is a little overpriced. We did not know what to order (everything in Malaysian). Although the workers seem Nice, they forgot to make suggestions ( we should have asked but they were busy). I would recommend come if you are larger than 2 people ( I think they give more attention to large party). I ordered the Pineapple Fried Rice 18 something & Dad order some fried noodle 17. His Noodle was nice but he complain there was not enough curry flavour. I thought his noodle taste better than my Fried Rice. Although the Pineapple fried rice was Ok, it was not worth 18 dollars. It did have alot of Shrimp but I wish it had more chicken ( suppose to be Chicken& Shrimp) Just overall the 18 dollar fried rice had alot of Rice but hardly any chicken. It had kind of a strange flavour. I wish it had more in the Rice than just Shrimp. For example, if they put more Onion or Chicken or just more oil, it would have gave the Pineapple Fried rice more flavour. When I ate it, i was wishing that I cooked my own ( because I like veggie or more Onion). It had literally no veggie nor Onion in it ! I was wishing I went to Panda express for more flavour. I just remember it had tons of Rice & hardly any veggie except tiny tiny bit of peas. Our bill came close to 50 dollars ( we ordered Mango drink & Dad order hot tea for 2.50) but we just did not feel the food had any flavour. It would have been better if they just put a little onion in the fried rice. Oh well, i guess we just order the wrong things but you would think that fried Rice is pretty basic ( especially Pineapple Fried Rice). I wish I went to Panda Express and spend 30 dollars instead of Dad spending 50 dollars for nothing! I would have not written this if Dad at least liked his curry noodle ( I think it was called mee...not sure)
