At El Sabroso, we're a neighborhood spot with a secret ingredient – warmth. Our Ecuadorian-inspired comfort food is made fresh daily and served with a side of hospitality. Our small menu may be limited, but our dishes are big on flavor. We're proud to offer traditional favorites like our famous locro de papas – a hearty potato soup that's become a local favorite. Come hang out at our cozy lunch counter, where you'll find just the right amount of elbow room and plenty of conversation starters. Our friendly staff can't wait to share a meal with you.

Unbeatable price, solid food and the place itself is awesome. Had Pollo with rice. Hole in the wall. Fun factor guaranteed

Turly what you would call a hole in the wall but what a gem.. I got the Bistic encebollado and it was delicious and full of flavor ! Very good and authentic and the staff was very friendly

The dishes here show culinary expertise! Every dish represents their commitment to quality. The workers handle tasks efficiently and politely. The restaurant maintains steady performance. My next meal will feature different selections.

Absolutely phenomenal! This hidden gem is a shining example of a warm, family-run operation serving up incredibly delicious Latin cuisine. I was lucky enough to snag the very last serving of the goat stew, and wow, it was out of this world. Rich, tender, perfectly seasoned!. Brian, working the counter, was welcoming, professional, and effortlessly bilingual. But the real heart of the place? His wonderful mother behind the stove, masterfully preparing and plating up soulful, authentic dishes for a diverse crowd of office workers, garment district locals, and curious tourists. This spot is more than just a great lunch—it’s a love letter to the vibrant, multicultural New York that I cherish. A must-visit!

What a great little place! El Sabroso is situated in a freight entrance, which is literally a corridor for incoming and outgoing freight. We couldn't decide on which food we wanted because the selection was all great! In the end we had chicken and beef stew, both fabulous! Service great too! 💯

Delicious, authentic Ecuadorian food. The staff was super kind and encouraged me to practice my Spanish while there. Try the Aji hot sauce! It's delicious and spicy!

They only take cash💸💸💸 . I just arrived in town and as soon as I checked in, i headed out for a quick bite. I google Spanish places to eat near me. El sabroso called my attention because it was within walking distance from my hotel . I walked there , you can miss the place really easy . The entrance to the this eatery is a loading dock kind of place . Just open the door and bumm!you are there . As soon as I saw city workers eating there , I knew the place would be good. It’s a two person operation , there is a small booth and one or two table on the left side. This place is unique. I liked it immediately ! The owner Tony was very nice . We chatted a bit . He has been at that locAtion for 16 years . It is very small. You will get really Good home cooked Ecuadorian food. They have a menu ,but sometimes they don’t serve what’s in the menu (remember it’s two person operation ) . You have to go there willing to be flexible with your meals. I opted for rice , stew and bean with a bit of salad , and it was great. They only take cash , so come in with cash in hand no bills larger than 20 please 😊. They are open five days a week . And the owner Tony told me that perhaps they will open on Saturday starting in April ( call ahead to double check on this ) as of now they open Saturday and Sunday . Here are some pictures of the entrance , the place itself , my meal and the owners Tony . If you go here and enjoy leave a nice review for them . God bless

Delicious. Packed with flavor. I got the pernil this time. Flavorful and moist. Fast and friendly service. Not many places to sit, but it’s called a “lunch counter” for a reason. Portion sizes have been inconsistent, but everything is always cooked perfectly. THE HOT SAUCE IS ACTUALLY VERY HOT! Affordable too!

This place is such a delicious cute little find. The stew chicken was so tender it fell off the bone as soon as the fork touched it. They give a great portion size. I would definitely recommend them for anyone looking for something different for lunch. Also, if you go around 230-3, you can beat the lunch rush.

Food was delicious and authentic. Unfortunately half of the menu was unavailable, which was disappointing. This is mainly a "to-go" place as there are only 2 tables. It's a literal hole- in- the- wall- place like a loading dock or something. Still enjoyed the food, but the place itself, and the loss of menu items could be overlooked if it weren't for their prices. It was almost $40.00 for two of us for just one portion of beef stew with lentils and white rice each.

The pernil was tasty and moist but a little less salty than I usually prefer. I love when pork packs a punch but I can’t expect every restaurant to have the exact same recipe. The beans were great and the rice was incredibly fluffy. If you can’t handle heat stay away from their complementary hot sauce available at the tables. Food was reasonably priced especially for the neighborhood however, I guess somewhat predictably, the portion sizes were on the small side. If you bring your appetite you just might need to get second lunch.

This is an interesting place. We stood on the street for while and couldn’t find the restaurant until I saw their menu on the door of an entrance. There is no ambiance and I don’t think they care. The restaurant looks more like a good truck and next to it there are a few dumpsters. It made me slightly uncomfortable and worried about the food safety. But the food was actually pretty decent. If you are around and you are brave enough, give it a try. It is damp cheap anyway.

I was so excited to try this place after hearing good things but unfortunately it left me very disappointed. The food was pretty plain and felt expensive for what it was. The space is very small and can be hard to find seating. I wouldn’t go back.

Not a bad place for a cheap lunch if you are in the mood for Latin food. The place is literally inside a loading dock so you will see guys walking around pushing hand trucks. The place has daily specials that include chicken, pork and beef with rice and beans. If my pockets are jingling and not crinkling, this is the spot on limited budget.

Solid easy-to-miss lunch spot (and breakfast too, I suppose) in the Garment District. All items are served at very reasonable price (all entree are less than $8 as of March 2017). Portion is decent and flavor is spot on. Highly recommend their hot sauce - it adds a lot of flavor and isn't burn-your-tongue-off spicy. Cheese empanada is also very good, especially when it's hot. Cash only.

Nice service and courteous staff, very nice but spoke little to no English. Language and accounting can be a challenge, but the food is pretty okay. Habanero sauce is pretty good and competition cam be challenging for the offering provided. Good luck!

Sin sabor. I was craving Ecuadorian food. Decided to get the seco de chivo (goat stew). My abuela made this for me all the time. Unfortunately, this had no flavor, mostly bones and the rice was soggy. Delivery was very quick though.

Awful. My friend and I asked for seco de pollo and were given a piece of chicken with tomato paste brushed on top of it. When I asked if they had run out of seco, the owner told me that it was seco and that in NY seco and chicken stew were basically the same thing (!!). Been in NY for several years and never heard of this, besides what was served wasn't stew either. Seco is seco everywhere and NY has some pretty good seco. Why not be honest and just say you didn't have seco? I'd have ordered something else easily. It's a shame places don't realize that providing good service and food will keep customers coming back.

While searching for Aquario, a Dominican restaurant I hadn’t visited in years, I accidentally came across another spot. Curiosity got the better of me, so I decided to give it a try. I ordered the beef stew served with white rice and a chicken stew with the same base. Unfortunately, the rice was a big disappointment—completely devoid of flavor, lacking any hint of salt, and resembling clumpy, wet Chinese rice rather than the fluffy texture I expected. The beef stew was passable, but the portions were meager; I barely found any beef in it. As for the chicken stew, it was even worse. I was served just two drumsticks, and the chicken itself was bland and unappetizing. Overall, with the plates costing around $15 to $16 each, I ended up wasting $31 on a meal that fell flat. Regrettably, I don’t see myself returning to this place anytime soon.

Earlier today I had a craving for hispanic food so I wished to try this particular spot, which reminded me of another spot that used to be in the area years ago. What I received was not only disappointing, it made me feel completely disgusted. The gentleman at the counter was very dismissive, given a very street-style demeanor. He did not seem to speak Spanish, and when I ordered in Spanish, he reiterated the dishes in English. Aside from not having half of the menu when I had ordered, the rice was clumpy and the chicken was very undercooked. Avoid this place at all costs! They are not even graded so beware!
