this hole in the wall restaurant has some of the best food I've ever had, and as an unabashed lone diner, i like that it's a spot either for families, dates, or just to sit and read by yourself as you eat. highly recommend coming for the lunch special, they have endless options!
The coziest warm atmosphere! The food was so good. The hot and sour soup is the perfect spice level with a great proportion of ‘bits’ to crunch on. The pan fried kimchi dumplings had a delicious caramelized crunch on the wrappers. The little slice of pumpkin served with lunch was a delicious and unexpected treat.
Surprised I hadn't reviewed this gem yet! Consistently delicious well-cooked vegan food at an unbeatable price! Took a couple people here over the years and they loved it too. That lunch special is really incredible. Today the mango "chicken", spring roll, and the pumpkin is so soft and well-spiced. Thai iced tea with soy milk was great. My friend had the pepper beef and a Thai iced coffee. She was impressed and we agreed we felt good after the meal (none of our usual gastric issues). The people working there are very nice. I only wish they would play some music for a better ambiance. Still 5 stars for the food and service though!
I needed to try their standout dishes before writing anything. Several of their entrees provide acceptable quality. The staff members display sincere kindness. I located a truly special eatery!!! Good handling! Returning again!
I’ve eaten at this place many times and all I can say is that this is one of my top favorite places in NYC. Everything I’ve tried was fresh and scrumptious and the portions were good size - definitely not small, and the prices are decent. Very friendly owner. I’m so thankful for a place like this for when I really want some Asian food but don’t want to worry about what I can order and what I can’t - everything here is vegan so I can order anything!
A really nice vegan place with great food, healthy portions and fair prices. I stopped here on a trip to Manhattan, as it was close to my hotel. Everyone on staff was super friendly, I really liked the vibe. My favorites were the general tso’s chicken and bean curd skins. Soup came with the meal and I added on some steam buns that were delicious too. I felt like I got a lot of food for my money, especially considering this is NYC. I only have positive things to say about Ginger Root. I’ll definitely come back the next time I’m on the East Side
Ginger Root is a vegan haven! Their extensive menu boasts a delicious array of Asian-inspired dishes, all reasonably priced and generously portioned. The friendly service creates a welcoming atmosphere, making the dining experience truly enjoyable. Conveniently located near both tram and subway lines, Ginger Root is a must-visit for any vegan or anyone looking to explore plant-based cuisine.
Vegan Eats Review: Spring Rolls (a little too floury) Miso Soup (watered down) Steamed Veggie Buns (just the right amount of filling to bun ratio) Bean Curd Skin Rolls (very tasty) Vegan Orange Chicken (plenty for two) Family run business. Super nice staff. Decent portions. Has a western Chinese food vibe with some delicious dim sum options.
Ginger root is one of our favorite vegan restaurants! It is the most amazing take out and now eating here in person, it is just as impressive! The food came so quickly and with two complimentary miso soups that were delicious. The general tsoi “chicken” is crispy and saucy: a real treat! All the noodle dishes have such an addicting yet light sauce with a variety of mixed veggies, we have such a hard time choosing which to get! Finally, their eggplant string beans dish comes as an extremely generous portion and has such a unique and delicious flavor. These dishes also come with perfectly cooked rice and soy beans. Eating this in person has been delightful as the staff is extremely attentive and continues to try to make your experience the best. We also truly appreciate how reasonable the prices here are for these delicious dishes! We will be coming here for as long as we live in NYC, and highly recommend to everyone!
I lived in upper east side for 6 years, this has been one of my favorite places for vegan food for lunch. After moving to New Haven, today I came back here after almost an year for nostalgia. The place hasn’t changed. Still serve great vegan food. Decor is basic, cute, homely. My favorite are setain skewers, satay tempeh & mango roll. The Thai ice tea is refreshing too.
I'm a carnivore and think this place is great. It's not meat. If you can get over that, I think this place executes well and everything was delicious. I didn't find the lack of meat a miss at all. Would definitely come back and order again if I was going meat free. Good to take vegan/vegetarian friends too
Great service, good spot for vegan food that also non-vegan folks would enjoy. We took the satay skewers, fried tofu skin, hot spicy soup, green papaya salad and Thai basil. To drink we took Thai iced coffee and hot cider. We loved everything apart from the green papaya salad - it had way too many green leaves, and too little dressing. Everything else was great, especially the appetizers and the iced coffee. Definitely coming back.
Casual vegan spot owned by a mom and pop. With daily lunch specials and a full menu of food choices, every time I come, it's like I'm finding something new to try. Dim sum, dumplings and seitan skewers are highlights. My favorite dishes are the full entrees such as vegan duck, Vegan black sesame beef and any stir fry with baby bok choy. The flavors, cooking methods and sauces are familiar -- like a Cantonese restaurant. Must try the pumpkin soup!
So many great reviews I wanted to love this place but was pretty disappointed with the taste. The miso soup was just ok, a bit spicy. I got the lunch special with veggies and tofu and the sauce was not good. The steamed rice also didn’t have good smell. I hate not being supportive to vegan places but this meal, I forced myself to eat. 😫
I feel bad even writing this but the food was gross. We ordered 4 things and finished none. Server not rude but also not friendly. The food seemed fresh and was very hot but whatever they used to substitute for lobster and wonton filling had a disturbing texture and no flavor. My husband's said the Seiten skewers were almost impossible to chew. I tried his dumpling and almost spit it out. I've been vegan for 10 years and am pretty easily satisfied - just for context.
