Our go to place for sushi lunch in the neighborhood. Fresh food and a great lunch special, substantially better than other places in the neighborhood. Courteous service. Highly recommended.
Just dropped in for first time. Lunch specials were fantastic. Fish fresh, service great, and cool small cozy vibe. Will be back!
Excellent for dine-in or delivery. Mido never disappoints with high quality fish, great staff, reasonable price, and comfortable space. This is my go-to UWS sushi spot.
Fish is so fresh the sake is great!! My friends n I had a good time there.
My favorite place for fresh and super delicious sashimi . All of their dishes are delicate and delicious . Their lunch specials are fantastic .
We love the food here!
Unbelievable! Best sushi for the price in the city & I've tried more than 30 other places. Amsterdam special was unreal! Simply the best.
My girlfriend and I went here for dinner. We were the only ones which was nice and private, and the food was brought quickly and tasted great. I HIGHLY recommend the mushroom soup.
I've been here with beatiful lady, who grew up in Japan. She has confirmed that sushi are real and good quality. I like this place and my lady !!!
Best chicken katsu on the UWS
Wow. Fresh. This place looks regular but the food is high quality. The chef def put a lot of thought and heart into making it. Try the triple X row
Amazing experience. Love the staff. They always take care of you. The food is beyond amazing. You will not be disappointed!
Fresh and delicious sashimi, great sake selection, not too noisy, and tasteful decor. Will definitely be coming back.
Really great sushi for a great price! The fish was fresh and the portion was big! Great place to get lunch!
Excellent! We enjoyed the rolls and poke bowl tremendously! We left happy and satisfied.
Mido is my favorite restaurant in NYC. If you sit at the sushi bar and order the omikase, you’re in for a life changing meal with one of the most talented and creative chefs out there!
A true hidden gem. Freshest, highest quality sushi around. Hopefully We'll be able to get a seat after it catches on!!!
YUM! Great place to stop for a bite, the chicken teriyaki bowl was 10/10
I've been to Mido nine or 10 times now, and haven't yet had a meal I didn't love. Great sake selection, creative rolls, and the best sashimi of any restaurant that doesn't have a 3-month wait for a reservation.
Servers super helpful and food prep very fast. Quality of fish very good. Prices also v good.
Sushi is consistently fresh and delicious. Service is fantastic. If you are craving sushi while in the UWS, you should pay a visit without a doubt.
This is our go-to for a great meal with great service in the neighborhood. The staff is friendly, helpful, and COVID-conscious. The food is consistently delicious and the happy hour drink deals are a steal. Love this place!
The sushi chef there, Sato makes this restaurant one of my favorite sushi joints in New York. Sato is creative in how he prepares various dishes, all the fish are fresh and delicious! Also for $60 for the omakase, it's a steal!
Fantastic sashimi! My daughter and I got the chef's choice sashimi plate with 5 different kinds of fish, each better than the last. Incredibly fresh and a generous portion also. We loved it!
I had dinner there during this past week. Can I say the service was exceptional, and the sushi was delicious. I tried the Tuna Tataki as an appetizer (Seared Black Pepper Tuna) and it just melted in your mouth. Followed by the eight piece sushi entree and accompanied by their signature Lychee Martini. I definitely recommend and will be returning soon for more.
Excellent experience. Very good food , the staff was very kind , the fish very fresh They work a lot with deliveries but that does not affect the speed or quality of the service . The roll Mido Dragon was delicious : shrimp tempura and mango . The prices are very very reasonable .
I come here often, and today I tried the poke bowl. That had to have been one of the best I’ve ever had. Their lunch is a great delicious deal, too.
Fantastic food - the udon broth was delicious and the monkfish liver was a unique culinary experience. Spicy crab roll was very good and had freshly ground wasabi - always a welcome site to see in a sushi restaurant. Nice ambience and service. Go later at around 8:30 to avoid the crowds. Would highly recommend.
Amazing. I sat at the bar and ordered the ‘chefs choice’ and it was arguably the best meal I’ve ever had. It was that good. 10 pieces and each one was incredible. Sato is the new sushi chef and he cares. Mauy and Michelle served the meal and they were sooo attentive and helpful. I love this place and I’m going back next Tuesday. You’re in for a treat when you order the chefs choice.
I always enjoy dinner here. The staff is always so friendly and attentive, and the food is always fresh and tasty. They are also very accommodating towards someone who has celiacs. This is place is great, affordable, and always a pleasure!
We had a great experience at Mido. Staff is very attentive and answered all our questions. Fish for sashimi was nice and fresh, chicken katsu with seaweed huge and very tasty. Great selection of Japanese craft beer, and the matcha cheesecake is to die for. 5/5 for sure, we’ll definitely be coming back.
Mido has a great feel to it right from the beginning, when you walk in the door. My family was served promptly and were well taken care of. The waiter kept checking on us to make sure we were all set. The food is amazing and my mom said she had the best saki that she ever had. She even had two glasses and she never does that! This is just one example of how irresistible mido is and how it is practically impossible not to order seconds. My family recommends the chicken udon soup, which was so good with the noodles thick and flavorful. The sushi is fresh and delicious. I hope you have a great time just like we did at this restaurant.
Now I’m not saying it’s the best sushi I’ve ever had... BUT... it’s REALLY good, and for the price point it’s AMAZINGLY GOOD!!! Love the service here and the house hot sake is always brilliant! See you again soon!
Mido Japanese restaurant is located in Upper West Side. I just went there for omakase (10 courses) last night. Everything was fresh and delicious 🤤. It’s definitely worthy of your money! The owner and the sushi chef are nice and friendly. I can’t wait to go back again for their other dishes.
WOW. Sato’s omakase is excellent and a phenomenal value, you are paying for fish and vision, not real estate. I have been to many UWS sushi spots - Gari, Mimi, Yasaka, Momoya, Haru, Kitaro, Hana - and I enjoyed Mido best. Service was attentive and friendly. I don’t photograph my meals, but it was beautiful as well as delicious. A treasure. Sake selections reasonably priced also!
Fresh ingredients. Rollls were very flavorful. Very good value.
I have just moved to upper west side. So far Mido Japanese restaurant is the best. My husband, my 2 boys and I ordered 3 lunch special sets. The foods were well presented and delicious.
Best chicken katsu. The word going around town was right!
Awesome sashimi, nigiri sushi, and appetizers and at a really reasonable price for this city. For sushi in the UWS Mido can’t be beat. I recommend rock shrimp, eggplant starter, or takoyaki to start but want to try more of the great starters. For mains I always get the sushi platter or the sashimi platter. I forgot the exact name on the menu. Ambience of the restaurant is fine, though I found the music playing last time a bit of a weird fit. The wait staff are very friendly, but don’t ask if you want the bill or dessert until you signal them.
Love this place! My family and I always have a great time whenever we visit. The sushi is always fresh, and the atmosphere is calm and relaxing—perfect for a laid-back meal. Definitely one of our go-to spots!”
Mido is hands down one of the best restaurants in the area. The food is fresh and delicious, drinks are great, and prices are very affordable. Service is outstanding — Andy was attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable. Highly recommend Mido for anyone looking for amazing food and excellent service.
Excellent Japanese restaurant. Smallish size place but very cordial surroundings and staff. Price is more than reasonable for Manhattan. Not a meet/greet cocktail situation.
Good sushi, slightly pricey, but if you want good sushi this is what you have to pay. The rolls are less expensive, though. The atmosphere is very matter-of-fact. Just focus on the food
A great lunch spot, their lunch specials are very filling and satisfying. The sushi tasted fresh, flavorful, and has good texture to it. I love the crispy rice, way better then Momoya’s. Overall, this place is great to grab an affordable and satisfying bite to eat.
Spicy Salomon roll was great! Specialty rolls, edamame and fried shrimp (must try) was delicious. Friendly staff and nice patio for outdoor dining.
Man, where to begin? I think this is one of my favorite restaurants of all time. It’s equal parts neighborhood mainstay and bespoke omokase experience rolled into one (pardon the pun). I think the sushi and sashimi platters are incredibly thoughtful, playful, and delicious. Amazing craft beer and sake list. Tried many different things from the menu and always enjoy them. Staff is world class. But the highlight is the omokase (chef’s selection) tasting menu. I think it’s one of the greatest meals in NYC and hands down the best value. Chef Saito highlights fish in a glorious and symphonic journey of flavor. Just try it. You’ll be hooked for life.
I had dinner here today and I loved it! The food and service were excellent! I was really wowed by the blue-fin tartare it was beautifully plated and you could have easily been charged $20+ elsewhere for this dish. Overall great value especially with the happy hour deals that they are running (half priced beer and wine!!). If you’re looking for a casual neighborhood spot to have sushi this place is a gem! Thank you Mido!
Our party of three have enjoyed the hospitality and dinners here two times in the past two months with another planned soon. We make it our business to support establishments that treat everyone as if they are ‘regulars’. Our first visit was in May. By the end of that visit they knew our names. The dinners were presented beautifully and were not only colorful, but DELICIOUS! Everything across the board was great. Sushi, sashimi and a cooked salmon entree. Thank you Joanna for making it your business to welcome everyone and make sure they are comfortable and happy throughout their visit. I look forward to seeing you again in a few weeks!
I eat sushi all the time and can say that this place is the best in the neighborhood, in terms of quality and value. I usually get the sushi/sashimi combo, and the cuts are a good size, and of high quality and freshness. The lunch specials in particular are great. The takeout is nicely packed and presented. Highly recommended.
I’ve been eating here for years and have never had a less than fabulous experience. Super tasty and fresh sushi. They now have a $15 lunch special which can’t be beat. Go or order now!
Came here for dinner during phase 2 of nyc reopening, after not eating sushi for months. It was really excellent in every way! They helped us pick a good Sake, and the food tasted great (highly recommend the Amsterdam roll!!) will definitely be back to this neighborhood gem.
Really good tuna, don’t skip the hamachi
top tier sushi for an affordable price - i come here at least once a month when i get a sushi craving. highly recommend
The presentation of the premium sushi platter from Mido UWS was colorful and artistic. We like the seaweed to be in the outside, and the chef fulfilled our requests. Love the spicy tuna, Amsterdam roll, Salmon lover, and all the other rolls. It’s very filling for our family. A good choice for dinner if we have guests too. When I opened the to-go container, my youngest child asked: what smells so good? We love their spicy tuna roll, salmon lover roll, avocado roll, yellowtail scallion roll, and twins roll. My kids watched many Japanese animations. Seeing the same kinds of meals in real life—like sushi—can make it feel magical and familiar for my kids, like they’re stepping into the world of their favorite characters. It can be a memorable experience for all of us. :)
Great atmosphere and service. Outstanding sushi. The secret to this place tho, is the lunch special. You get so much food for like 17 bucks. I get frivolous and order a coke cuz it’s so dang inexpensive. It goes til 4pm. Can’t beat it.
This place is absolutely amazing. We used to live around the corner and either ate in or got take out from here every week. The sushi is always super fresh, the service is fast and attentive, and the hot dishes are always amazing. The udon is really flavorful and tasty. We’ve never been disappointed by this neighborhood joint - whenever we are in the area, we make sure to drop by for a meal.
Met up my two friends for a dinner and the place was lovely! Their selection of whiskeys were top notch, the sushi was fresh, and the service was quite attentive! Though I wasn’t overly fond of the dessert, the rest was incredible! I adored the mushroom soup (I could eat the whole pot) and the tekka don was amazing. Everyone was so lovely to us and the decor is nice!
Just found out that my friend owns half of this restaurant so i came down for a feast. Its location is easier to find parking and not too much traffic on the road, which means conveniency. The restaurant has friendly and eco decor, i did imagine it would have a steady flow of regulars. Pricing is reasonable since this is NY. I ordered some sashimi and rolls for try out and i was astonished. Just look at the Otoro, you dont need to spent $2000 to go to Masa for a weekly delivery of fresh Otoro (unless you just want the artistry show from the chef himself)... this restaurant definitely has the quality beyond its unmatched pricing. Would definitely come visit again.
Absolutely phenomenal place for uptown manhattan! Service and sushi was fantastic! We were there after the peak hours, so it was fast and focused service. The waiters knew just when they were needed. They stood aside, prepared to attend to your every need the moment you looked up to find them! We had the Niku roll, Amsterdam roll and the Spicy lobster roll. We also had the rock shrimp, edamame, miso soup and of course, sake! Everything was top of the line. Highly recommended place if you're a sushi fan.
I live right over Mido and often order for delivery! They come super quick and the food is amazing! When we dine inside everyone is super nice and there is good service!
Great food! The service could've been better. The Sushi and Sashimi were both very good and the appetizers were also very good as well. It's a good solid sushi restaurant, its not going to do anything crazy but it's better than nothing.
It’s expensive — it is tasty by I don’t think the price justifies it. The shiitake roll is my favorite. Avocado and cucumber are also really good. Nice decor, good for a date night. But my mind goes back to the price... The standard order has 6 rolls. Careful with the fried tofu, it is molten inside. The gyoza is solid and the miso is seriously amazing. Some of the best miso I ever had. I don’t know what sauce they use for the gyoza and friend tofu, but that is delicious.
Service was good, teriyaki salmon was yummy but the veggies were cold, cold but cooked perfect. I had the unagi sushi and it was ok. Sushi rice wasn't great and the eel want that good either. Seaweed salad was mediocre. The service made up for the food
Mido is currently offering all day 1/2 price beer and wine on weekdays. The wine pours are very generous! But what’s really important is the quality and care in preparation and serving of this small Japanese restaurant treasure’s food, wine, beer and sake offerings. I ordered the traditional Japanese salad with Carrot Ginger dressing (huge and perfect!) and the ‘no rice’ Triple X specialty roll. Oh my. They use FRESH wasabi. And this roll is all fish and avocado Nirvana (salmon and yellowtail) with the perfect blend of spices and sauce. Stay home please. Keep those tables ‘available’.
Great place to just chill over many bottles of sake! That’s exactly what my buddy and I did followed by sushi!
Good and well-crafted sushi, as well as a good selection of other items. Staff was very quick and helpful. The tea was piping hot (had to wait for it to cool). Our waiter was almost too attentive with water, to the point where he interrupted conversation several times asking for a 3/4 filled glass to top off.
The sushi lunch was very tasty. Service was excellent and for Saturday lunch not very busy which meant we were given extra attention. Lunch specials are affordable, fresh, large portions, and tasty. Music selection was surprisingly good and ambiance was very nice. Definitely a restaurant I will be back to when I'm craving sushi at lunch time.
Bumped into this place whilst looking for somewhere to eat in the neighborhood and thought we'd give it a try. Can't comment on whether the sushi or sashimi is any good or not as I don't tend to eat it often enough to judge. But thought I'd give it another go to see if this restaurant's version would wow me. The presentation was perfect and there was a good selection of different types provided on the lunch time special. But I actually preferred the chicken teriyaki on my husband's bento box special. The chicken was super tender and the sauce quite lovely. I think I'm going to have to stick to cooked Japanese food in future as the sushi/sashimi just doesn't do much for my taste buds. One criticism was that the tempura batter was rather soft, needed to be crunchier, but it wasn't greasy. The restaurant is very nicely decorated, wasn't too crowded and the one waitress that was serving everyone in the restaurant was very pleasant and efficient. Considering she was serving about 5 or 6 tables all by herself I was pretty impressed, especially after exiting a certain restaurant down the road that couldn't muster up much service with more wait staff, we left that to come here, so bonus points for excellent service. I suspect when it's more crowded here the noise level could be a bit louder as the decor is all hard surfaces.
Typical sushi. Their lychee soda is delicious but sushi didn't feel the most fresh. Rice was a little hard and cold.
Food was pretty good, service not amazing. From the moment we walked in the waitress seemed annoyed with us, like she is doing us a favor...
I placed an order ahead of time and two of the items I reserved, the miso eggplant appetizer and the crispy tuna, were both really good. Fresh, flavorful, and exactly what I expected. The only disappointment was the Spicy Crab Roll. The menu shows a fresh snow crab and shiso roll wrapped in sesame soy paper, but what I received looked completely different and was made with imitation crab. For a $15 specialty roll, that mismatch felt misleading. Overall, the food I did receive was tasty, but I wish the Spicy Crab Roll matched the description and photo.
I came for a weeknight dinner and got the haha roll and the sushi/sashimi entree. Loved the tempura bits in the haha roll, but I'm not sure if I was a fan of the sushi/sashimi entree. There were generous servings of a variety of fish, but each bite did not leave my taste buds with a smooth, buttery taste. Staff was friendly and the interior was modern and clean. They don't have an online reservation system so you have to place a reservation over the phone. Overall this place was fine if you don't generally have super high standards for sashimi or sushi.
I would've gave this place 4, maybe 5 stars if it wasn't for the customer service. My daughter and I tasted 3 different wines. The waitress seemed annoyed with each tasting, including the very first one she gave us. We ended up opting for martinis since we didn't like any of the white's we tasted. We ordered a few items from the happy hour menu and several sushi a la carte items from the regular menu. All was tasty and fresh except for the most expensive piece, which was a Toro Sushi for $12. It was chewy. My daughter tried to take one bite and with fail put it back down on her plate. She basically had a mangled piece of fish on her plate at this point. When we called the waitress over and asked for a substitution piece, a hamachi which is only $4 on the menu not nearly the cost of the toro, the chef said no stating the sushi was fresh. We advised the waitress it was a matter of the cut not freshness. Then she said she still couldn't substitute and that they all tasted the toro and it was fine. At this point I demanded that they give my daughter a proper cut of toro which they did. This piece was actually worth the $12. It tasted fresh and melted in your mouth like butter as it should. The mere fact that the waitress and sushi chef kept challenging us was a complete turnoff, as was the obvious fact that the waitress didn't seem happy about pouring us tastings of their subpar wines. Minus the customer service and hit or miss sushi, the rest of our order was great. Would I come back here after our experience, NO.
Not worth the cost. The sushi was mediocre at best, from the sushi rice having too much vinegar overtaking the flavor of everything else, to the majority of the fish not being of quality.
I live near here and ordered their food for the first time. Sushi & Sashimi Entree ($30) was not great. Yet pricier than Sushi Yasaka from which I order often. Also, their pickled ginger didn't smell right. I wonder about all the 5-star reviews.
I was not happy with my experience here. I went with two friends - one of which had recommended their quality of fish and rolls to me. We were a total of THREE people, dining for DINNER (regardless of what you replied with; actually I don't think you care to even remember). You gave us a table for four when we had asked to sit at the back. When we arrived, the waiter would not allow us to sit where we asked: the place was empty, and they insisted the seats were reserved. The fish was warm and the taste was bland and when I asked the chefs personally for a special request of a hand roll, they were less than accommodating. As well, I was not impressed or happy with the quality of the rolls that arrived at my table. An hour later when we finished and left, the seats that the waiter had said were originally reserved were still empty - as was the restaurant. The total of my bill came to $160+ and I even tipped. For those who want every dollar of their hard-earned cash to be worth it for a sushi experience, I would not recommend this place or the quality of the food. I will not be returning; there's plenty of good sushi and Japanese restaurants in New York, and this one has left a poor taste in my mouth. Literally.
Just tried this for the first time — we just moved to the city, and are big sushi lovers. We were in the mood to try something new in the area and wanted good rolls. Honestly. This was incredibly underwhelming. When we opened our food is smelled too much of fish (obviously it’s fish but it shouldn’t smell at all) and the avocado roll tasted like nothing. Pretty disappointed.
I ordered for the first time here and I got a few rolls that we went to pick up. The restaurant was busy but had a super overpowering fish smell so we were happy we did takeout. Once we started eating our order, two of the rolls were like really fishy (we eat sushi all the time from all different places) and just tasted off so we stopped eating them. I got a stomach ache and didn't feel well so my boyfriend called to let the restaurant know that two of the rolls were not great and something might be up, and they literally accused us of trying to scam them since it was our first time ordering!!! We even said other things were fine, just the Amsterdam and Bahama rolls tasted wacky as a watch out and they were SO RUDE to him on the phone. Literally spent $100+ and had to throw out a lot of the order. We had high hopes and were super disappointed in the experience. Will definitely not be going back here, but glad others had good experiences.
The lady waitress with the glasses lied to me and was rude. The messed up part is the owner thinks I'm a delivery guy when I'm a customer. His comment is an example of respect they have for customers
We had such high hopes for Mido based on all the reviews across multiple platforms and were hoping to enjoy a nice meal after a long day. Unfortunately, we were sorely disappointed by the tiny portions of barely edible food that left us searching the cupboards for the rest of dinner. For a restaurant whose primary focus is sushi, it was amazing how many things were wrong with our rolls. The spicy tuna must have been covering up some old fish as there was absolutely no taste aside from the tingling feeling from an unreasonable amount of spice. Across all the rolls, the rice was so overcooked and poorly seasoned that it had no taste, was very mushy, and had a gummy texture. This was without a doubt the worst sushi I've ever had - I would have preferred getting some from a grocery store that had been sitting out all day. We were left with upset stomachs, and knew that whatever we had just eaten was not fresh. I hope you don't make the same mistake we did by going here.
We ordered for delivery. The food took almost 2 hours to arrive and when it did, it was cold. A truly disappointing experience and we will not be ordering again.
Reviews must be fake. Fish smelled strange and was warm. Frying oil is definitely old, soft shell crab tempura tasted bitter. Salad overdressed. Only edamame was good. Disgusting.
