Hubby and I are in culinary heaven! Stopped into this Oakland gem inside the Prescott Market. He had the sweet potato pancakes with berry compote , fresh made whipped cream and …wait for it….toasted hazelnuts. I had the andouille shrimp & grits. Ya’ll know that’s my go to meal. Their version was definitely like none I’ve ever had. The grits are imported from Carolina. The texture was amazing. Just the right ratio (cause I’m a math girl) of shrimp, sausage and sauce. And with just the right amount of kick. Will definitely be a regular stop every time we are in town. You’ve gotta go check out this husband & wife team. Tell Marissa that Michelle from Riverside sent you.
The ricotta donuts at Cafe Noir are an absolute standout. Light, fluffy, and fried to perfection, they have that dreamy texture that only ricotta can give. A subtle hit of lemon keeps them bright and balanced, making each bite feel indulgent without being heavy. They’re served with both chocolate and caramel sauce, but the caramel combo is downright decadent—rich, buttery, and the perfect match for the warm donuts. It’s the kind of dessert you keep thinking about long after the plate is gone.
This spot is my absolute favorite. My family and I tried Cafe Noir again at its new location at the Prescott Market. The vibes and space is a lovely place to share a meal and enjoy a beautiful day. I absolutely love the owner. She is so nice, and down to earth. Before you even try the bomb food, you get this great customer service experience. As far as the food goes, it is upscale deliciousness in a chill setting. I left there satisfied and looking forward to my next meal at Cafe Noir. We had the Grains in Purgatory, shrimp and grits, banana bread French toast and sweet potato pancakes. Every dish was perfect and high quality. Get out and support Cafe Noir!!!!! Your taste buds will be tantalized and satisfied.
Hearty soul food with great ingredients! Loved the shrimp farro and beans Prescott bowl!
If you come to Prescott Market in West Oakland, there’s one spot that beats the rest in both quality and variety. Cafe Noir is such a terrific little bistro if you want a delicious and decadent breakfast/brunch. I’m a sucker for a good breakfast sandwich, and I’m convinced theirs is the best in town.
Fantastic black owned café with flavorful food and friendly service. Recommend the sweet potato pancakes for brunch! We also had the potato hash and the short ribs and grits special—also fabulous 🤘🏼
Shrimp and grits are super good and well seasoned. Potato hash and sweet potato pancakes are a must!
The chocolate sauce that came with the Ricotta Donuts is so dark and thick. Not too sweet, with intense cocoa flavors. Unreal.
Cafe Noir is a great brunch option at Prescott Market. We enjoyed their Banana bread French toast & Sweet Potato Hash with sausage & eggs.
DELICIOUS! On the pricy side but considering the portion & quality, definitely worth it. I asked for some hot sauce (mild or very spicy) which topped off the potatoes nicely. Person at the front who I believe was the owner is friendly and overall had a great vibe. 10/10 will be back! Sidenote: I ate so well, immediately needed to go home & take a nap 😴
Very very good food and atmosphere !! Please go and support them

To be from New Orleans and to have the andouille sausage and shrimp grits were AMAZING. Fresh ingredients and very flavorful. We also had the banana Foster’s French toast, OMG, they were like a dessert!!! The owners were a delight, thanks for donuts.
Amazing spot in the Prescott Market. The Jollof is rich and just the perfect spice level. The oxtail was cooked to perfection and mashed potatoes were to die for. This was for dinner so next time is lunch where I’m looking forward to that fried chicken sandwich. ps - it was so good. We started eating and forgot to take pictures.
Let me start off by saying we just moved from ATL and have been having a hard time finding restaurants with that “sauce” if you know what I mean. I just happened to be looking for breakfast when I stumbled upon “Cafe Noir” something about the name… I had to taste it, so I ordered the “grains in purgatory.” The best breakfast dish I’ve had in a while. If I may say it’s not easy to please my taste buds, I’m not a pancake or waffle type of person. …And the amount of food you get for the price(real big back) and the quality makes this the top of my list. “The best” thank you for exceeding my expectations!!!
4.9 stars feels low for this place. I’ve had their breakfast a couple of times and it’s absolutely amazing. So much flavor. I had the sausage and biscuit sando. Everything was perfect - esp the potatoes. I forget what it was called but my husband had this farro bowl with eggs- so spicy and perfect. Every item is a standout. We were so busy eating that no photos were taken tho.
Located in Prescott Market (cute neighborhood food hall) Cafe Noir is legit. They are serving up food that tastes next level - best brunch I’ve had in a long time. What a fantastic surprise. I’m not local but if I was this place would be on my short list of favorite go-to spots.
Had the salmon bowl and jollof. The jollof had a kick but not too spicy. Both were great

Dem doggone Ricotta Donuts are the bomb. Light, Airy and and so so good. The food is great and service is excellent

Delicious!! Wow! I had the Andouille Shrimp and Grits, they were so flavorful and fresh. My taste buds did a happy dance. The rest of the menu looked so good. Can't wait to go back. Check them out in Prescott Market, such a nice place to grab a bite to eat with family/friends.
Amending this review based on my latest experience. I was excited to bring my mom here and was disappointed by the food quality and service. The whipped cream on my pancakes was completely melted and I received feedback from the server about waiting too long to pick it up. I needed to be fairly assertive to get some fresh whipped cream. The hazelnuts were stale and chewy. Jaw-dropping sweet potato pancakes. Topped with blueberry compote, toasted hazelnuts and homemade whipped cream. Run, don’t walk to try these! Quick and super friendly service.
Stopped-in to get a coffee at Highwire (which was delicious) and saw a couple noshing on a yummy looking breakfast sandwich, which inspired us to split one, too. It was a sausage egg sandwich that came with savory roast potatoes. The biscuit was light and fluffy, sausage tasty but not too spicy or greasy, egg was perfectly cooked and folded. Highly recommended.

My mom recommended I try this place while I was visiting from out of town. Unfortunately, my experience with the service really put a damper on things. I tried making small talk with who I later found out was the owner, but she was very short with me (couldn’t even give a polite chuckle at my jokes) .When it came time to order, after my mom order it came across as dismissive. When I came back to ask for hot sauce, I was met with more snark. The owner said flatly, “We have a really hot habanero” Not “Do you like spicy stuff? Want to try it?” Nothing just quick response in a way that felt like I was bothering her. Then the chef chimed in, “Be careful what you ask for,” which sounded less like a playful warning and more like they wanted me to regret asking. Neither of them ever said thank you or showed basic hospitality. The food itself was good, the habanero salsa was flavorful and spicy as expected, and the chicken sausage stood out as especially tasty. But the lack of warmth and courtesy overshadowed it. As a Black woman, it’s disheartening when another woman of color is dismissive and rude to me, especially when I mentioned I was visiting and trying to support the business. In this economy, every customer counts. A smile, a thank you, or even just a little kindness goes a long way.

Cute spot. Wish it felt more welcoming. My suggestion is working on customer service and their drinks are overly sweetened to the point where it’s unbearable to even drink. I took a few sips of a drink I ordered and it was so sweet it made me feel sick.
The QR menu says that they will text you when your order is ready, they didn't. The hash said it was three types of potatoes but they only used one. The staff was passive aggressive. There are a lot of better options nearby.
