This was my first time eating here at the recommendation of family living in Frisco. Our party of 5 enjoyed all the food. Their "famous" onion rings were top notch to the whole table. Staff was service oriented and the place was very clean including the bathrooms. Oh and make sure you don't pass up the fresh rolls!
You will come for the food, but stay for the hospitality! Jeff and his team do a great job here. When you walk in, it takes you back to a simpler time before the "CRAFT BBQ" rage. A bar with all your fixins, WARM bbq sauce in a Corona bottle no less. Warm, buttery, rolls, fresh fried okra, you get the point. Well, I am done talking, make sure you go check em out for yourselves and tell em I sent you.
Met the young man at the counter a few days ago Cid, excellent customer service. Something that is very rare these days. Our daughter has been at Scotish Rite hospital for months and we have been here on several occasions but Never received the hospitality that he showed us. Thank you Ced. We will definitely return
Lola, the manager, is AMAZING! We had a meetup planned and used their room. She allowed us to start our event just before opening. The space was clean and well organized and all our attendees were comfortable. After the meeting we all ate lunch and continued our networking. While networking is great, networking while eating some delicious food makes it all the better! Overall, this place fit the bill and more! I look forward to hosting more events there!!!
We met here for a networking group, and they have an amazing room for large groups. The staff was very hospitable, and the food was great! I had the brisket-stuffed baked potato, and several of my colleagues had the ribs, which looked amazing. Thank you to the owner, Lola, for the wonderful space and excellent service!
Carl is amazing! Patient, kind, helpful, knows regulars by name. I am a regular but always look to see if Carl is working. The food always turns out perfect when he is working. He makes sure the meat is lean and not fatty just like I like it. I watch him and he never stops working. Picking up dirty dishes, wiping down tables, talking to regulars, etc. oftentimes I take my older sister to eat there. She is a Carl fan also. She is elderly and on a walker and if he sees us coming in, he will open and hold the door for us. Welcome us in. The young workers today do not have that work ethic. If we go to other restaurants, we compare workers to Carl. We will even say “that worker is no Carl!” I hope the owner knows how diligent, kind, hard working and dedicated Carl is. I always tip him well, but i hope your company gives bonuses to employees as such. Especially to Carl. He is a ten plus, plus! I also notice if he is not taking an order at the time, he is watching the restaurant and the customers. Other employees in the restaurant will stand and talk to each other. With Carl, customers come first. The decor in the restaurant could use a little sprucing up. A little freshness in decor. Please acknowledge to Carl what a fantastic job he does. Taking great care of the customers and always calm. He is THE best! Please share this with him. I will continue to service your restaurant, mainly due to Carl’s work ethic. Making sure the food is lean, hot and fresh. His eye is always on the customer. Keep up the great work Carl. You are the best!
Great place for BBQ The ribs and brisket were tender. My favorite part also is they have an actual meat plate combo for a good value compared to so many greedy spots wanting to itemize everything. Will definitely be back
For hubby's birthday, we took him to Sonny Bryan's Smokehouse for lunch. The atmosphere is relaxed and comfortable, and the staff were efficient and friendly. I ordered the meat potato, hubby ordered the 3-meat plate (turkey, pulled chicken, and sliced brisket) with mac and cheese and beans, and our daughter ordered the brisket sandwich plate with okra and fries. All were very delicious and flavorful. Sonny Bryan's Smokehouse is hubby's favorite for their consistency and overall flavor.
From the moment I stepped out of the car, the mouthwatering smell of BBQ in the air told me I was in for a treat—and it did not disappoint. The smoky flavor in the meat matched the aroma perfectly. Every bite was packed with that authentic, slow-cooked taste you hope for in a great BBQ joint. The restaurant was spotless, which honestly isn’t always the case with BBQ places, so that stood out right away. The staff was incredibly friendly and made sure everything was just right. You could tell they cared about both their food and their customers. Portion sizes were more than generous, and to top it all off, the prices were lower than most other places I’ve checked out in the area. Great food, clean space, awesome service, and a great value—what more could you want? Highly recommend if you're craving real BBQ done right.
If you were looking for a consistent place for great barbecue and a great atmosphere, this is the place. You can tell when you walk in to the Campbell Road location. This is not a boutique barbecue place. It is going to charge you for waiting in line and provide you with $40 plate barbecue. If you're a normal person and you want a good meal, but you do not wanna go to the bank and make a loan this place is great. Onion rings are wonderful. My wife and I like the classic barbecue versus the hill country, but both are really good. If you're looking for something besides for beef, I get the turkey five out of six times. The turkey is nice and juicy and it is great with coleslaw on the side. The side bar has banana peppers, onions , pickles, jalapeños, and multiple other choices If you want your fries or onion rings, extra crispy bacon can take care of that too We are lovers of Sonny's.
If you are visiting Dallas,TX this is the best place to eat, was my best experience that I visited during my visit, the mac and cheese and smashed potatoes, the smoke taste was really impressive, and the meals turkey, and the sliced brisket was incredible!! So in 4 words: you have to visit!!
Sonny Bryan’s Smokehouse happened to be on the way to someplace at mealtime, so my family decided to stop there. We knew it’s a small business, so we figured it’ll be good to support a local business. We walk in and discover that the place is clean, the prices are fair (picture of menu attached), and it smells great. We order our food, including an appetizer of two orders of onion rings. The onion rings arrived fast, hot, and you can tell that they make them themselves, at the restaurant. The barbecue and ranch sauces are homemade and delicious. Not long after the appetizer, a friendly staff member brought us our entrees (7 of them). Piping hot, made fresh, accurate, and delicious. I got the combo plate with brisket, pulled pork, jalapeño cheddar sausage, macaroni and cheese, and fried okra. All were obviously made at the place, fresh. Now for the restaurant itself. The place was clean, the tables were clean, the drink and condiment area was clean and organized, and the bathrooms were clean and stocked. Overall, this place gave us an outstanding experience and we will be back for more!
First visit at this location yesterday. I gave 3 for service as a man just appeared at the register, staring ahead with no greeting. I had to ask if he's taking my order AND how he was doing. To engage I also asked for his recommendations on wing flavors. It was like pulling teeth, smh! lol. I chose bbq flavor smokey wings. Also got a large plate with ribs, sausage and sliced brisket... and a side salad and bbq beans. Just 1 thing: I'm confused about why there's a $15.99 and large $17.99 BBQ plate. I've had both and there's no difference in portions of meats and sides (you can choose up to 3 meats for either one and sides are small). I will say the bbq is good and has that smokey taste that I like. The dining area is spaciulous and very nice and clean.
Lunch came about 2:15 pm. Empty as expected with occasional trickle and carry outs from UTD across the street. Order 1: 2 meat with Sliced Brisket & pulled chicken. Side: green bean casserole & baked beans. The pulled chicken may have had a smoked flavor but it was impossible to tell due to extreme saltiness. We both agreed this was a “never again” item. The Sliced brisket on the other hand had a visible smoke ring but was overdone or perhaps had been held too long in a bin. It was not bad but I’ve had so much better and would not buy a Lb of this meat to go like I do at the Sonny Bryan’s across from Southwest Medical. That one is very consistent and usually on point particularly with the meats. To be fair we ate the 3 slices of brisket (drenched in sauce) but I’m disappointed and would look for other options and not this location at the time of day. The roll was cold but not stale. It just was meh and didn’t add anything to the meal. The beans were also just barely better than most canned beans. The may have been canned and then touched up but not good. I wanted good beans and these were not that. The casserole looked good enough but taste was flat. Tasted like green beans with fried onions and cream of something soup but missing flavor. They had salt and that was not missing but they were not notable at all. The green beans did have a little snap and were probably made from fresh but they gave their tenderness for nothing. It was a fail. Order 2: Chopped barbecue sandwich. Sandwich was decent and meat adequately sauced to be more tender with a perceptible smokiness. It wasn’t great brisket and the base meat wasn’t particularly tender but as stated the sauce helped compensate. Positive note was they did give a discount for seniors but price had nothing to do with the meal experience. Wish this had been better because I was looking forward to this lunch since yesterday. ******* NOT RECOMMENDED ******
On my last trip to Dallas I got a chance to visit Sonny Bryan's Smokehouse in Richardson. My original intent had been to go to "The Original" in the Inwood area. But I couldn't make it - I wish I would have made the longer drive down, as the experience at the Richardson joint was underwhelming. The barbecue was fine - but the ambiance was not very impressive. Honestly, it felt a bit like walking into a Dickey's BBQ (heaven forbid) - very commercial and sterile. So that was disappointing. The meat was fine. I ordered the "Hill Country" brisket, which had more smoky flavor than their regular brisket. It tasted fine. The jalapeno sausage was reasonable, but again not overwhelmingly good. The coleslaw was good, as was the sauce. I wouldn't go out of my way to go to this location again. However, I do still want to give "The Original" a try when I am up in Dallas again.
First time trying this place. Not impressed. I ordered the pulled chicken. It was very very soft. Almost mushy. Not a lot of smoke flavor and have lots of seasoning on it. Seemed to be all dark meat. The coleslaw was ok. The baked beans were just mush, like a soup. Fried okra was not crisp. Chopped brisket sandwich was ok. Sauce is not worth it.
You would think that a family pack that supposedly "feeds 6" would come with 6 ribs, we got 4. But the amount of cheddar sausage will last all week. Used to love this place but today was very disappointing.
It’s just a slight step up from fast food. The Ribs are sub par. Not very much meat, lots of cartilage. Like a lot, mouthfuls of cartilage in fact. Pretty gross really. The sides? Nothing is impressive at all. Even the “famous onion rings” disappoint. They are too big to eat without making a huge mess. If you don’t want that, you’ve got to use silverware. It’s all order and pay first, I guess that’s most bbq joints around. But this one feels like they just don’t care too much. And holy cow is it expensive. Around $30 per person.
