Great food and service in an old saloon. This place and it's second floor would be a crazy popular Airbnb if the owner was interested and local code permitted that. The hearts in the antique invasion bars on the above windows outside are... interesting. 🫢
Amazing experience at Sandy McGee’s! The broccoli cheese soup was rich and flavorful, and the chicken salad on croissant was fresh and delicious. Cozy historic building with a warm, welcoming vibe. Perfect spot for a relaxed family lunch!
This is a little gem of a restaurant in the heart of Richmond, Texas in a historic building full of character with outstanding food and something for everyone. I had one of the best BLTs ever here. They are farm to table, their food is high quality, and you can truly taste the quality. You will not be disappointed. Highly recommend!
Outstanding wonderful tasty lunch here today! We haven’t been here in years and not sure why it dropped off our radar. We used to eat here frequently and I even had a friend hold a bridal shower for me here in 1998! Well, it’s back on radar now! Still the same good quality food and the best chicken salad I’ve ever had outside of my own kitchen. Delicious fresh fruit and love love love the poppy seed dressing, as well as their famous broccoli cheddar soup. One person in our group had the cob salad and it was amazing! Others in party had Mike’s Plate — all so good!!!
This is a really good place to eat some tasty food. They were very accommodating to our large party of 12. The broccoli cheddar soup was fantastic, the fries were nice and crispy with just the right amount of salt and all the sandwiches, cheesesteak and burgers were excellent. I’m not often in Richmond but next time I am I will definitely be eating here again.
I’ve been coming here since I was a teenager, but I haven’t been in years. It’s hasn’t changed - still wonderful! You walk into the door on the right and then order at the counter. Once you order, they give you and assigned table and a basket of the most amazing crunchy bread rounds. It all came back to me when I ordered the city secretary and the broccoli cheese soup was as good as I remembered. The fruit was fresh and sweet. The sandwich was a little plainer than I remembered (no avocado now), but it was still delicious. The dining room was divided into smaller rooms, and we sat in the back room. It was cozy, and our food came out just as we finished our bread!
First time here. The chicken salad sandwich was really good. It was really big. I ate half and took the other half home. My boyfriend ordered a poboy with a side of broccoli cheese soup. He also didn’t finish it and took half home. The spinach artichoke dip was really good. I loved the croutons they give you.
This place is clearly popular and stays busy most days. They only accept reservations after 3 p.m., and by lunchtime the line is often out the door. They open at 10 a.m., and it’s best to arrive before 11 to avoid the lunch rush. While the food comes out fairly quickly, it does get crowded and finding a table can be challenging during peak hours. Parking is limited to street parking, though I was fortunate to arrive early and snag a spot right out front. I happened to be passing through town and stopped in while craving a cheeseburger—and it absolutely hit the spot. The carrot cake was massive, far larger than expected, and a pleasant surprise. It was moist, flavorful, and topped with the perfect cream cheese frosting. Several people waiting in line even commented on it after seeing my slice. Ordering is done at the counter; you’re given a number and seated at an assigned table. One small downside was the drink selection—I had hoped for root beer but found only Coke products, so I opted for water instead. Keep in mind tables are close together so you over beer other conversations. It’s loud due to the amount of people in one open area. Overall, I really enjoyed my visit. The portion sizes are generous, the menu has great variety with appetizers and multiple entrée options, and I would definitely return to try a breakfast plate or a relaxed dinner.
If you ever stop in to eat you will NOT be disappointed the food is REALLY GOOD and HUGE servings. If you Order a Chicken Salad make sure you're HUNGRY/HANGRY because it's enough to serve 3 people. The Cuban Sandwich IS Perfection with savory taste and cheeses that melt in your mouth. It was a little quaint restaurant with character and nice environment. This is NOT a negative remark but rather a suggestion, and a recommendation, hence why I Rated 3 Stars for Atmosphere. On the side of the Main Entrance walk way, above the mirrors, way up top, there are 2 big brown-gold tone vases for decoration, that could use some cleaning. They have a lot of dust and I would hate to think that they've been collecting dust since '1986' or '1987' there's 2 different conflicting year dates, one on the wooden sign says 1987, outside says 1986, nonetheless, it looks like dust has been collecting since this was opened. They could use some cleaning up a bit, it would make a world of a difference. I only suggest this because if the vases ARE visible with dust, it might make one wonder (like myself) how clean is the kitchen behind the doors. Also, the chairs under the staircase look like a storage area, it seems as if care and attention is no longer being giving to the restaurant. A little TLC and a good cleaning can go a long way. Other than that I would definitely be back if in town and I'll definitely recommend this establishment to others.
Good food, good service. I was actually expecting less than what we got but it was so much better. Restaurant has a nice old antique atmosphere and we happen to ask our waitress if it was potentially haunted, she said there are unexplained things that happen so that's a fun fact. I'm all about spooky vibes. Loved it!
To-go service was awkward, the bartender was "busy" with his one and only patron to even look up and acknowledge me as I'm standing in front of his bar, waiting as per the instructions during check out. After a few minutes I was finally, half hurriedly acknowledged by the guy in the corner with his laptop. Maybe manager? He asked "what's it for?" Not who is it for, or what is the name? So I thought that was kind of weird. Made me feel like neither me nor my order were worth his time. The Philly Cheese Steak was just ok. It lacked flavor, or the justification of a $17 price tag. Jersey Mike's has a better Philly Cheese Steak and is only $11, and the service there is much better as well. Honestly I'm a bit disappointed. I'm all for supporting small business, especially one as well established as this place, but after my experience I won't be coming back. Maybe take some notes from Gino's Italian Joint next door. They checked all the boxes and I will be dining there again. And again.
Soup seemed a little commercial, broccoli cheese soup barely has broccoli. Chicken tortilla soup was just OK. The sandwiches were pretty good. Much of the clientele is an older crowd. Overall, it was OK.
