Quite delicious a delicious sushi restaurant. I've only been here for lunch, but the atmosphere is nicely lit while keeping the sun blocked out. I would best describe the atmosphere as ambient.
Best sushi in town!!! Love the Arata Sushi Special, Spicy Crispy Kale and the Tuna Whopper. They also have great lunch specials.
Went for lunch & turns out I got one of the most popular items on the GrubHub menu: the Daniela Roll! So good. I got it with spicy salmon instead of tuna... the olive oil drizzle is what made it so delicious and unusual! Stuffed just from the roll. "Spicy tuna, crunch and avocado topped with yellowtail, jalapeno slices and tobiko with yuzu olive oil dressing." It was pretty busy. The 5 piece Arata special was delicious! So was the miso ramen: pork, an egg with veggies.
Pricey, but nice atmosphere, friendly staff, and amazing attention to detail. Even down to the freakin avocado in the sushi (most perfect ripeness level I've ever tasted).
A great Sushi restaurant in the heart of Syosset. Jimmy the owner is friendly and a master at his craft. The restaurant is cozy and not fancy like some newer restaurants, but I'm coming for the food. The food is great!
The food is absolutely delicious. The sushi is probably their signiture dish. I recomend going here but it is kind of small so dont invite a lot of people.
Awesome sushi! Creative and delicious rolls. Very kind people too! We’ve been going here for decades now and they never forget us :)
Today is my second time i bring my friend to try this place .It was so good i really love the food and was surprise the waitress (but i don't know her name )She was my waitress from last time .She can remember me and know my name (from yelp that wrote around 2 months ago ) This is very impression for me. I will be back again soon.
Love Arata. Their food is great. Service and staff always friendly and welcoming. One of my family's favorite places for Japanese. Highly recommend.
The best sushi place on EARTH!! You have to come to this place because the food here and servers are amazing!! The sushi and food here is so fresh and very yummy when you are looking for a place to eat!! Amazing amazing amazing!!
Best sushi outside Manhattan. I dare to say one of the best sushi establishments in all of NYC. You definitely owe it to yourself to make the trip out there to see for yourself.
Amazing service, nothing to complain about. Definitely the best quality sushi you can find
Went there for lunch. Nice staff and very delicious. Also some varieties for vegetarians. I strongly recommend the avocado peanut rolls!
Recommend any of the sashimi plates. Just finished eating and everything was packed with flavor and very fresh. The arata 10 piece was Fabulous.
Brussel sprouts and scallops, yellowtail sashimi in a spicy teriyaki sauce - top notch! Had the signature rolls - Daniella, American Stzndard and Anya - all excellent!
Food was nice, staff were friendly, bathrooms clean.
Best sushi in the area! Food is very fresh and the staff is so friendly. Highly recommend you try this restaurant.
One of the best sushi restaurants I've been to. Also the owner accommodated us which was a special treat with his recommendations. A very nice place. Highly recommended for any body looking for sushi!
Loved every dish ordered. Party of 5. Very foody group. Everyone was impressed. Will definitely go back.
Fresh and delicious. Their original kale chip with spicy Tuna dish and their taco chip with spicy tuna. One of a kind and a must have. First time visit and first time with either dish... You will not regret it.
Food and service are both amazing!!! Kale appetizer is always done to perfection. The different varieties of sauces make everything taste even better. Sushi is always fresh.
My #1 place for sushi!! Great service and sushi is best I’ve had. Always order 10 piece sushi chef special. Never fails. Can’t wait to go back!!
Best sushi restaurant around. They always serve fresh quality sushi. I have been dining with them for many years. If I could give 10 stars I would.
When you've had sushi the likes of Arata's, you almost can't bare any other. And the prices are quite reasonable given the quality. If they massage kobe beef, these fish must be read haiku and more.
This has become a COVID date-night take-out staple and I’ve really enjoyed it. I think the Firecracker roll is my favorite so far, but I haven’t been disappointed with anything we’ve gotten. We usually get 3 rolls or 2 plus an app for the 2 of us.
Been ordering in and the are consistent with the quality of the sushi - always get the order correct and have the process down on bringing the food to the car! The 5 piece chefs choice is amazing.
Food was great, good options for sushi lovers and those who are vegetable fans. Service was quick, staff friendly. Definitely recommend
Ordered California Roll, Shoyu Ramen and Greentea Ice cream. Sushi was amazing and they give you a generous amount of wasabi and ginger on the side. Ramen broth was good but maybe next time I would ask that they take out the vegetables. For $12, thats not bad at all!!! Green tea ice cream was pretty bitter and sweet just the way i like it.
One of the very best sushi restaurants on Long Island. Creative chefs and fresh food combined with excellent management make this a worthwhile experience.
Best sushi in the area , just moved here from Queens , tried a lot of sushi places to compare to the once in the city this is my winner! Amazing sushi , fresh , fest service... The Daniela roll to die for .
Nice place. Food was good. Service was very nice. Prices were good.
Arata Sushi in Syosset is an absolute gem! From the moment we sat at the sushi bar, we were treated like royalty by the skilled chefs. The flavors and combinations of each dish were fresh, bold, and incredibly delicious - unlike any other sushi I've had before. The presentation was top-notch, making every bite a true delight for the senses. P.S. Don't miss out on the chef's recommendations - take a leap of faith and be prepared to be amazed! Your taste buds will thank you.
Best sushi I've had in Long Island by a long shot. The sushi here tends to be worse than even the pizza, but this place is a diamond in the rough tbag I go to every few weeks now. Since everything is good just order whatever seems interesting.
The best sushi around. The fish is super fresh and delicious. Generously sized pieces. Creative roll selections. My partner had yaki udon and he loved it as well.
Jimmy the chef changed our order and promised he could deliver on something magnificent… he over delivered on our expectations. This was our first time here and we will definitely be coming back for more sushi and for Jimmy’s talent. I highly recommend this business, they got us hooked.
By far the best sushi on this side of the island, great service, good atmosphere. Thank you to all the staff and great craftsmanship behind the sushi bar.
Fantastic quality that never changes even on separate visits. Great place to have sushi if you’re new to eating raw fish, because they use flavorful sauces that compliment the fish but makes it really easy to enjoy if you’re not a fan of plain sashimi. Highly, highly recommended - new to sushi or not.
Delicious, fresh sushi at good prices. The servers are always great and super helpful with requests!
This is my favorite sushi spot! If you are big into sushi this place is a MUST on Long Island! The sushi was the freshest I have experienced around. The rolls here are extremely creative and well thought out. The tuna whopper was to die for and def worth the price. The restaurant itself is small but cozy and was a perfect compliment to the type of food served there. From the outside you could almost miss this gem. The service was friendly and very kind. I cannot wait to go back again.
It's always an amazing experience every time we come here. The sushi is outstanding and the chefs are culinary artists in their own right. Hands down our favorite sushi restaurant on Long Island.
Don't read any reviews before dining here... That's what I did and this place has become my home for fresh sushi, service, and satisfaction. Be brave and try the Arata-style box! I've frequent here a few times within the past few months and it only gets better every time. Thank you Jimmy and Vincent for nothing but the best
Arata is one of the best sushi restaurants on long island. The quality is perfect every single time we come. Try all of their specialties! A very busy little spot, and for all good reasons. Unpretentious to say the least! Go and enjoy!
The great sushi never fails here, my wife continues to want to go there as do I. The food is great. The place is very small and tight. Seems like a little hole in the wall but great food. Service is mediocre at best there's a little bit of a language barrier at times when ordering stuff. Or overall is pretty good.
Amazing sushi. Wish we lived closer as this would be my go to place. Went there for my wife's birthday and the staff went above and beyond to make it an amazing night. She loved everything and loved me for finding it! Make sure to get the chef's special, it's worth the money. It made the difference from being great sushi to amazing, simply because of the different flavors it provided.
Love their sushi! Good service, and friendly staff! Quick service as well! The shefs special sushi is the best so far! The love roll is so good!
This is one of the best sushi restaurants on the island. Fresh, inventive, overall amazing food. Small inside but the perfect atmosphere. If you have not tried this place, add it to your sushi restaurants quickly. They have off the menu items too, which just are jaw dropping.
My favorite mid-price sushi place. It's just your average sushi place, but everything is just a bit better than usual. The fish seems fresher, the rice is better seasoned, and the miso soup is a bit more flavorful. It won't blow you away with exotic fish and gourmet delicacies, but thats not what this is.
The 5 piece Arata special was excellent - unique flavors, fresh fish and filling despite it being 5 pieces. Service was prompt and the place was clean and comfortable. Prices are higher than average but the quality of the fish makes up for it. Recommended.
The sushi and sashimi are very tasty and fresh. The service is great. The place is a little small. Either make a reservation or arrive early so you don’t get hangry. They accept cash and credit cards, and there is a restroom. Parking is available either in front of the store or in the back. Swing by and give it a try if you are in the area.
Great chef selection 10 piece.
Great sushi spot in the center of Syosset. Always seems to be bustling on the weekends.
Stopped in for a glass of wine and a couple of rolls to kill some time while the kid was in SPORTSTIME and OMG… the service, food and atmosphere was 5/5 stars ✨!!! The ARATA STYLE SUSHI(Omakase) was fantastic. Next time, which will be sooner than later, I will go for the 10 piece for sure!! We also ordered the ARATA MAKI ROLL and a basic tuna avocado, both were very delicious and fresh! It was pretty crowded for a Wednesday night (7pm) so we actually sat at the sushi bar which was a first for us and it was such a delightful experience. The chef behind the bar treated us to a portion of their SALMON CARPACCIO and it was so delicious and such an amazing gesture… I suggest you all try this place! WE WILL DEFINITELY RETURN WITH FRIENDS AND FAMILY!
I always get the 10 piece sushi Arata style. I think it’s the best in this area. Dined in 2x and picked up about 10x. Would recommend for takeout or casual meet up.
Very fresh fish and ingredients. Reasonably priced as well
Very kind and considerate! I always get the love roll & they were kind enough to make me a new one to make me happy. I always come here when I’m in the area & they don’t disappoint Thank you as always for your kindness n willingness to do everything you can to keep the customer coming back
Hands down my favorite spot on Long Island. Yes, out of everything. The food is out of this world amazing, like a Japanese gastro pub sushi hole in the wall; the staff are incredibly welcoming, attentive, and knowledgeable about the dishes and sake; and the place just has a great vibe. I highly recommend the omakase "Arata Sushi." Just go all in and get the 10 piece. You've never had anything like it. Perfect 10/10, and 11/10 with rice.
Normally i dont bother to leave Google reviews but this place deserved it! I went by myself and sat at the sushi bar, all the staff was super attentive and it was really nice watching all the chefs cook in front of me, the chefs were also very friendly!! I got the arata style sushi, which I 100% reccomend trying, it was some of the best sushi I've ever had, the flavours were super inventive and the fish was very soft and fresh and didn't have any metallic taste. If your in the area it's most surely worth the try!
Unbelievable experience! It feels like we have been living under a rock for all these years in the area. Just amazing. The Arata style sushi - described as "it's like opening a box of jewels" - was clearly the star of the show! I thought they were quite expensive, at 3 pieces for $13.50, but once I popped the first one in my mouth, it was like the heavens opened up and angels were singing. This was the first sushi restaurant where we were given specific instructions to NOT dip in the soy sauce, and we followed to a T. The other rolls we went for - Daniela, Unagi Labyrinth, and Arata Spider - were also exceptionally nice, but still paled in comparison to the beauty of Arata Style. Can't wait to visit again!
The food and atmosphere were really nice. The staff was friendly. Only issue was no lunch menu so was expensive for a fast lunch.
Food was very good but they kept running out of everything! No more plum wine and the waiter had to come back to the table three times to inform.us they ran out of the dessert we selected.
Love this place so kuch go at least once or twice a week for a little snack here and there one thing I don't really understand is that they close from 3 to 430 that's the only thing I don't really like hut besides that amazing food sushi like like gave never had before not to expensive so give it a try.
Really great, fresh fish, but is also nearly twice as expensive as all the other sushi places in town. Salmon sashimi, for example, is twice as expensive for half the amount of fish. Excellent flavors and rolls but I always have to think twice because of my wallet.
Very good sushi, the Kale Salad was my favorite thing to eat. It's not really a salad, so don't expect a lot of greens. I'm pretty sure it's not a healthy option, but it's a delicious option for sure. The sushi was good and tasted fresh.
Rolls were good and creative. The arata style sushi pieces we got were overdone with toppings.
Love the food here. It’s a little tight but worth it. Best menu item is definitely the kale salad. Kosher understanding. IkurA is not good. Don’t go with more then a group of 6.
The service was amazing- very polite, accommodating and genuinely friendly. I had the lychee martini and it was just OK. The food overall was just Ok as well; however their sushi was great. If we go back I would only go for their sushi rolls and specialities. I gave it 4 star instead of a 3 due to their service and sushi itself. Their chicken udon wasnt very good - the chicken was too dry; their beef teriyaki was not great - the beef was too chewy and tough. The kids enjoyed their miso soup and rice. But beyond that they didn't really enjoy anything else. There's parking in the back and street parking as well. It's not very large so reservations are definitely recommended.
I thought it was good, I liked it. I honestly don't understand the hype around this place. However I compare all sushi experiences to MUSU in Seaford which is no longer. This place was good though 👍
For it's location and pricing, this place serves dissent sushi. Not the best you probably had, but not bad. The fusion sushi is mostly sweet, so if you don't like sweet stick to nigiri and sashimi
I order regularly from this place. It's a good sushi restaurant in the neighborhood. But I am under the impression that the quality has deteriorated a bit lately. The portion size got smaller too.
4 of us ate there on a Saturday night recently. Food was fine, but we felt rushed in and out by the staff. Made it difficult to relax and definitely lessened the enjoyment that we usually share when having dinner with these close friends of ours. Next time we'll go back to Kado, just a block away, and always very pleasant and friendly.
I am sooo disappointed with the food I ordered today that I am writing this review immediately after eating it and I’m still in their parking lot. The “chef” that prepped the salmon eringi, knife skills are non existent as everything was cut way too thick and inconsistent and the sauce has been changed and was inedible. The spicy tuna crispy kale was a sloppy mess, again absolutely no consistency in cutting, the tortilla was cut in half? The Arata 3 piece sushi, I couldn’t bite through the salmon, tried to chew it, and chew it and chew it. This was my very favorite sushi place for the last 6 years, unfortunately after this last experience I won’t be returning as the quality has declined a bit over the last couple of years, but not nearly as bad as it was today. UPDATE: I got a call from management almost immediately after posting this review and they apologized for my bad experience and they will talk to the kitchen staff. I appreciate that they did that and hope it will help other diners in the future. I’m adding 2 more stars from the original 1 star for that reason.
Place is okay. Crispy rice had too much rice and not enough tuna. Sauce on the rolls masked a lot of the fish flavor. Definitely recommend the shuami
The sushi was very good, but the wait staff was eh. They never checked if we needed a refill on drinks, left salad plates on our table when they brought soup & it took them 15 minutes to clear lunch plates. Not the best of lunch service.
I've frequented Arata both in house and take-out. I believe there has been a change of ownership in the past 2 years. As a result of garnering high praise they have forgotten that consistency and good food is key. The chirashi I have always praised came out flimsy, without the typical egg, sashimi pieces and was full of rice. For a place that prides itself on being a top sushi restaurant I was extremely disappointed. After having been a patron since it replaced Tsubo years ago, I am no longer giving Arata my business. The sushi pieces have shrunk since the beginning, the entrees have changed for the worse, the ramen is something you can get at a stand, and the omakase (Arata special) are really no longer anything to rave about. Whatever factor they had they have lost it and I hope they can find it again.
We had an arata 10 piece sushi set, The overall flavor was fine, but not the typical Japanese high end sushi I was expecting, all sushi was heavily seasoned with different types of sauce paste and you can barely taste the flavor of the fish or the sushi rice. Overall taste was not bad but to me this is more of a normal sushi place which they are clearly over priced for the food IMO.
3.5 stars Overall okay and decent neighborhood joint.. found a hair and although the dish was replaced , appetite was compromised and the dish wasn’t comped.
I don't know how this place has such good reviews. I had sushi for 1. It was average, nothing to be thrilled about. My friend's rolls were also good but nothing extraordinary. Maybe the special rolls are good? I have no idea.
The sushi was good. But frankly, for the prices they charge, it should have been outstanding, and it wasn't. On the other hand, the service was indeed great (probably because at least ten employees were working, which would explain the need for the prices). Given the option, we'd have gladly traded for okay service and excellent sushi. If you're looking for decent sushi for a LOT of money, here it is. Of course, YMMV. I have been enjoying sushi for over forty years. Just sayin.
Packed! But sushi was mediocre. Tried too hard to be fancy by adding edamame puree to everything. And cilantro does not belong on sushi! Sashimi was good.
Do not order the torched roll with tuna. I understand that the rice is supposed to be slightly fried, but it wasnt even edible. Tried the love roll as well and that was bursting with flavor, but the servers made us feel very uncomfortable and humiliated when we told them that our first roll wasn't good.
Good food tonight but the service was incredibly slow, we had to go to the counter for food that didn’t arrive and even had to go back and get our bill at the bar. Waiter never came back to check on us or check to see if we wanted another drink. Not returning for a while :(
The food was excellent but the service was so obnoxious. We sat down and in the first ten minutes she asked us three times if we knew what we wanted. They rushed our whole meal and then the owner or manager chased us out. my reservation was at 6;45, we were out of there 7:45. That was not a relaxing meal and rude!!!!
I eyeballed this sushi place with almost 5 star review and stopped by for lunch with some cold dishes and the 10 pieces Arata style sushi. I actually like the appetizer although it's overprice. For the main course, I have to say the seasoning ruined the sushi itself. I can barely taste the rice and the fish with the sauce on top. Some pieces are overly salty. Overall, I expect at least more balanced sushi with the given prices, which is roughly $70 per person. Moreover, it's inconvenient that the store doesn't have menu.
Just tried eating here for dinner. There were 9 open tables but they denied my service because I came with my girlfriend and they said in order to sit we needed at least 4 people. Horrible service. Little does that joke of a place know, I eat enough for 5 people. Never getting my business.
If I could give a zero I would. The food is mediocre. Nothing special. Mushy, overcooked rice. Chicken katsu was okay. Rolls are not very authentic. More for the local taste. My review is mostly about the service. Talk about poor service!! Do not go for an early dinner (4:50 pm) with a baby. You will feel very unwelcome from the moment you go inside. Mind you my 9 month old didn’t make a peep. Anyways…. They moved us about 2 times. No one was inside the restaurant. The waiter made an issue about it all. Up to that I was ok. Once my husband took our eldest to the bathroom. The waitress cleaned our table, mind you my daughter s plate was full and she was still eating. Yes food on her plate that she did not get to eat bc the waitress cleaned her plates. The attitude was terrible. The service horrendous. I would suggest the owner to better train their staff. TERRIBLE TABLE MANNERS. HORRIBLE SERVICE. 0 for service.
