Have to say I was pleasantly surprised by my lunch here. The hostess was lovely and super nice. Ordering was easy and there were multiple vegetarian options which I appreciated. We ate outside overlooking the meadow, very peaceful. I was able to get a good ice coffee with oat milk which is hard to find in a park. The hummus wrap was honestly great, excited to recreate it at home!

Very beautiful place to stop for lunch. The menu is great and the service is outstanding. The food was served in reasonable time and it tasted great.

A hidden gem for vegetarians! We got the veggie pizza, it was crunchy and loaded with veggies and so good in taste!! The size was smaller than we expected for the price charged. The burger was okay, I personally don't like quinoa lentil patty, i wish they had black bean patty! Surprisingly, the vegetarian soup was really nice.

Had a great experience while visiting the Grant Grove Restaurant. The food we purchased from the restaurant was amazing. We are assuming we showed up during a lunch rush as there was a lot of people, but the food still came out in a timely manner and had great flavor. The cashier and waiter were friendly. I definitely recommend the Cuban sandwich. Definitely worth it.

The food was amazing—honestly, the best we've found so far, and it was completely unexpected! We ordered the Trout Sandwich and the House Recipe Plant-Based Burger, both of which were so good that we had to get another portion to go. Considering the quality, the prices were incredibly reasonable! I deducted one star for the atmosphere and service because the tables were dirty. Nevertheless, the food and the location are top-notch.

One of the best experiences in a restaurants inside the parks. Food was very good, we had pizza for lunch and omlette for breakfast. Food quality was extremely good, One of the best pizzas I had in recent times.

The Grant Grove Restaurant one of the few restaurants you can eat at while visiting King's Canyon and Sequoia National Parks. It's close to the visitor center and the lodge around it. It doesn't disappoint though! The food quality is excellent. Everything I've had there has been tasty and well cooked, especially the trout and the burger. The inside is very lovely and the staff is friendly.

The food was great, much better than what you would expect at a rest stop like this. Unfortunately they no longer have their veggie pizza with artichoke hearts on the menu. Also they can't serve frys so forget about that comfort while you're out here camping.

Confused about the poor reviews ... this place was great, friendly and attentive staff, delicious food, cozy atmosphere. Ate here three times in one weekend - twice for dinner and once for breakfast. All four of us loved it, and felt it helped make our experience at the park even more memorable.

Great food at this quick eatery! They had a kiosk to order, or you could mobile order with a lot of customization options. Their burgers were really good and each side was great - the fruit cup was fresh, the pasta salad was well seasoned, and the chili was delicious! We enjoyed it so much we got two sandwiches to go for our dinner - both of them were just as good!

Wonderful restaurant right across from Kings Canyon Visitor Center and close to John Muir Lodge. Reasonable price, great food, nice staff. We had every meal here except lunch for two days and we're very happy with the quality. The Xmas special meal was a great deal too instead of a rip off like many other places.

We got there at 1137 after they opened at 1130 and got the last spot on the pretty, shaded back patio. You order at the counter and go sit. Had to go ask about our order after 25 mins. The food was actually much better than I expected. About $16 a person. Get the pesto pasta salad, it was nice.

A gem in the national park, nothing beats biting into a delicious, not-overpriced (considering remoteness, unlike ridiculous prices as ski lodges), perfectly made club sandwich and sipping on hot veggie soup while sitting on a well-maintained picnic table after a long day of exploring and hiking surrounded by sequoias. Open till 8 PM (after visitor center has closed) which is just perfect for those that are looking for something delicious to eat and spend just a few more moments in the beautiful park before making the windy, long drive homes. Easy ordering via screens, short wait for order to be ready. Visitor Center across lot has WiFi. We stumbled upon this spot and now cannot recommend this spot enough - truly a wonderful reminder of the beauty of our national parks :) The Sierra Club sandwich was *chef’s kiss*

If you happen to be in kings canyon national park try out this little gem. We forgot to take food pics as we took it to go but it was soooooo good! I got the sausage, egg and cheese burrito which came with sour cream, salsa and hot sauce, Maddie got the pancakes and Will decided on the French toast as per usual. Maddie and I shared and both were delicious! The burrito was huge and the pancakes were the best I’ve ever had! Not sure why it’s rated a 3.8 so I thought I’d share our thoughts. 5.0!

I am so glad that this place exists. It serves a very important role serving visitors to the park , ESPECIALLY in winter. My son and I like to camp in Azalea campground in the snowy seasons and this place is like a tropical breakfast oasis when it is 18 degrees outside. Update Jan 2026: Sadly, when this restaurant reopened after COVID, it was no longer operated year-round. It now closes at the end of November and only reopens the first day of spring, along with the Grant Grove cabins. RIP snowy January mornings in Azalea campground with a hot breakfast in the restaurant.

Both my Mom and I were shocked at the high quality of our meals! It was kiosk ordered and then picked up at a window but the food was delicious! Fresh salad greens, fresh fruit, yummy pizza, not frozen, and very reasonably priced for being transported from the Valley. Well done!

We liked dining here. The food was good. The portions were better than expected. I've eaten at restaurants at other national parks and have paid way more for less. Our kids really like the food a lot, which was really helpful considering that there aren't many dining options around the park. It's not the cheapest restaurant, but considering the lack of competition and remoteness this place could easily be way more expensive. The dining area was clean. The views from the restaurant were scenic. We ended up going back multiple times.

Perfect place for lunch and dinner when you’re staying at a nearby campground or just passing through. We carbon the outside veranda in the meadow and watched the family of deer come down the meadow right under the veranda and on through. Beautiful setting and lots of choices for dining.

All things considered getting such food in national park is impressive. Had caprese sandwich, chicken sandwich with pink lemonade. Super good! Humus sandwich was salty but rest of the food was good!

Had such a good time here! Service was great, we had a great view, and the food was delicious! Our servers were friendly and hospitable :) I had the burger and my sisters had the wings, pizza, and chicken sandwich- everything was wonderful! Definitely would recommend this place :)

If you are visiting the north side of the national forest I highly recommend getting breakfast or lunch here are *least* once, the food is excellent, and the kitchen staff are very friendly. We ordered with the kiosk and then wait for the take out window. Seamless experience. The prices are super reasonable. I had the breakfast burrito and my wife had the three cheese omelet and both were great. In fact I really never eat breakfast burritos but this one tasted really good, they used a wheat tortilla. No runny eggs and great flavor The next day I got the club sandwich and was surprised to see it was a double decker sandwich! While eating it, even though I was getting full, I could not resist eating the whole thing, it was simply that good! The toast was chewy and the sandwich was full of flavor. You definitely should eat here during your stay

We came to this restaurant and I ordered the Philly Cheesesteak, while my wife had a burger — we both loved it! The service was super efficient and the food was delicious. Considering this is inside the park, we were honestly surprised, especially because the rating made it seem like it wouldn’t be good. But it was quite the opposite. We were very satisfied, and I’m leaving this review to encourage others — it’s definitely worth it. The food is really good, and as a food guy who’s pretty critical, I have to say: I was impressed.

Unlike other reviewers, my wife and I had a wonderful dining experience here - perhaps one of the best breakfasts I’ve ever had! The made to order omelette was perfect. Atmosphere is great, service was fine. This far exceeds anything we’ve had outside the park here.

We were surprised by the quality of food and service here compared to many other national parks' restaurant offerings. The nachos were a massive helping and very fresh, the wings were decently sized and the sauce was good. The prices are a bit high but this is a pretty remote area and they are on par with most other NP restaurants, though the quality is a lot better!

J

Genuinely confused why this place has only a 3.5 star rating. The food was delicious! I also was pleasantly surprised they offered grass fed beef options, which makes me even more optimistic of the quality of food here. My table ordered a pizza, two salads, a chicken sandwich with homemade pickles (yum!!) and a side of grass fed beef chilli (yum again!!), and some wings to share. All of us were pleasantly surprised with how good the food was. We weren’t expecting much since it was the only restaurant within a miles.

The Grant Grove restaurant is the feature restaurant of the Grant Grove Village in Kings Canyon National Park. Opening hours are 7-10am (breakfast), 11.30-3.30pm (lunch) and 5-8pm (dinner). We had a good breakfast and two good lunches at the Grant Grove restaurant during our recent stay the nearby John Muir Lodge. Seating and dining environs are nice at the restaurant, tables spaced out well. We found service to be very friendly and timely as well. Menu is rather simple and straight-forward and the kitchen did a good job with all of our orders. Our breakfast orders included a tasty yoghurt bowl as well as a short-stack pancakes, bacon and eggs to taste exactly as expected. It was a quickly served and good breakfast. Lunch orders of a bowl of chili, California flatbread, chicken salad wrap and pizza were all prepared and tasted quite good. We enjoyed everything served and would have no problem reordering all. Overall, three pretty good meals at the Grant Grove. Would happily eat here again the next time we pass through the Grant Grove village area of Kings Canyon National Park.

Great spot for a beer after a long day of hiking. The General Sherman IPA is pretty decent and the outdoor seating is nice. There's a touchscreen you can use to order and 6ft markers on the ground. Tables are really spaced out.

It was our GrandGirl's 1st trip to the mountains. She is only 9 months old but we all enjoyed the trip! We ate at the restaurant and we loved our burgers and pizza. The only disappointment was the mac'cheese....

11/1/18 update a little better, the place is improving, still... a little slow, but the place and location is good. Grant Grove is a Great Place. The Grant Grove Restaurant has gone a pretty big renovation. Things look good, the views are better, the seating arrangement is better, the bathrooms are very much improved. They opened around the 4th of July 2017, and i'm guessing they've been trying to catch up every since.... Do no order the brisket, until they've figured out how to cook it longer, it was as tough as leather. The salad was good, and the Portabella mushroom entree was good. They have Tioga-Sequoia General Sherman on tap YUM! Service is not so good, extremely slow, and well, i think they need some help. We live fairly nearby, so we'll go back in a month or two, and check up on things. I do want this place to succeed.

The burger and chili were solid. The view from the balcony was beautiful and relaxing. I also love being up in Grant Grove Village. My only complaint is the service. They must have been short staffed because our server didn’t come around as often as we would have liked.

B

The burger and pesto pasta was very good. I liked the touch screen kiosk to order your food. However, there were a lot of people not comfortable with this technology and they had a difficult time using it. This created a bottle neck for customers ordering food.

My wife and I enjoyed an anniversary dinner here two weeks ago. It was top notch all the way. I had the best tomato bisque soup ever, and we both enjoyed the superb trout main course. The creme brulee dessert was also excellent. Our waitress Liz couldn't have been better--menu suggestions, quick service, very friendly.

Visited on August of this year. Very informative and helpful. Loved the short film about the park that they were showing. They have a nice little gift shop. Adjacent to it there's a bigger gift shop, bathrooms and a place when you can grab some food; had breakfast and lunch there.

You place your order with the cashier. Then someone brings the food to your table. I ordered the nachos and my friend. Both were very good and large portions.

C

The service was awesome! Menu is much larger than I thought it would be at a National Park. The Pot pie was delicious, but I thought a little on the small side. The chicken wings were quite tasty and the beer menu was extensive.

S

Dining room was closed for a private event, but there was a quick order kiosk for outdoor dining. Pizza was great. Perfect crispy edge. I added avocado and mushrooms to my chicken sandwich. Chicken was juicy and flavorful. Hubs said wings were very good. Mixed berry pie had a delicious homemade crust and whipped cream.

Nothing special, but solid Grant Burger. One of the two ordering kiosks was down but things were still pretty streamlined, except the older lady ahead of us who took twice as long to put her order in successfully because of operator error.

M
Mike Glick

You might expect to have at least one waite staff person but no. Preorder at a kiosk or the host takes your order and you sit and wait. Looked like one server for the whole place and one busser. Very nice place but kinda disappointing for the price.

A
Abbi Waltmon

It was better than expected for the reviews. My pizza was good and had lots of cheese. It seems understaffed and takes long. After a hike or a long roadtrip, this is pretty decent, especially for being inside the park. Tables were not cleared the whole time I was in there, but again, I believe it's due to staffing issues. Definitely not bad tho and if I'm already in the park I'd go back again.

M

Ate here over 2 days including Breakfast and Lunch if you are staying here its your only choice. Hamburgers and Chill were pretty good. Philly was ok. Omelette had lots of meat in it. Pancake was good. You ordered on a kiosk and they bring it to you.

The front desk person was friendly taking our order but that was about all our interactions. You then sit and your food is brought out to you. Pretty chill environment, nice patio with a view of meadow. The food was ok, my meal was great but two of my daughters pizzas were undercooked. There aren't really any other options in the area so it's kinda all you got. But we did eat the Wasuki?? Lodge and it was much better but about 40 mins away.

J

This is a very basic place to eat. You place your order with an interactive menu board, take your number, and find a seat. After a longer than normal wait, your meal is brought out to you. The food is tasty but expensive, but that is to be expected since you are limited on dining choices inside the Park.

E
Ethan Cheng

Servers and staff were friendly and nice but they seemed very overworked and short-staffed during a recent dinner service. For a dinner service of 2 it took about 2 hours on a weeknight in the off-peak season. The greeter at the front was left clearing unclean tables in order to get people seated as there were no busboys available. Things were a bit rushed as there were still crayons and food on the ground at the table we were seated. The waiters and servers were swamped trying to get orders out so we were left waiting for 15 min before someone checked in with us. Our waiter was very nice and apologized for the wait. Food was okay for a National Park which means it's basic menu items but a slightly higher price given the location. Ordered a chicken with rice and vegetables - chicken was juicy and tender. However, the rice was probably left steaming all day and was already burnt and dried out so it wasn't edible. I would come back for the food and location but the wait times for this location can be very long.

S
Simple Foodie

Tried the veggie pant based burger. The patty was very dry. Overall a decent dish for the price and location but not very tasty. They forgot to give us whipped cream on the brownie(which itself wasnt great).

K

Server was friendly, and the price was reasonable for a restaurant in the middle of a national park. My 4yo didn't like the kid's meal mac-and-cheese, and when my husband tasted it he said he could see why. Other than that, the other food we ordered was all fine. Food was really slow to come out, but it was also during the winter holidays and I think there was literally one server for the whole dining area, so who knows what it was like back in the kitchen.

M
Mike Lutz

Food very good, but ordering thru the kiosk can be risky. Trying to submit an order resulted in a dump of Javascript code. Second kiosk took my order (and my money) but have me two orders. P.S. I received a reply to the original post (above) within 2 hours. The owner was quite apologetic, which has done much to ameliorate the situation. I think the problem is not with the service persons but with the underlying kiosk order software. So I've moved my rating up a notch.

F
Felisa Rolfes

Just average. Food was ok. I liked the 3-egg omelette and breakfast potatoes. I also thought the turkey club was ok. You can't go wrong with the yogurt parfait either. But french toast was below average, the blueberry muffins were nasty, and service was just ok. It's not exactly a sit-down restaurant with waiters. Instead you order at a kyosk and pick a seat, then they'll bring the food to you... eventually.

June 27/2024 The workers in this place were wonderful. They worked very hard and kept smiles on their faces even when dealing with failed computer systems. They all deserve at least 5 Stars, especially a young lady who we were served breakfast by a few times. Her first Initial is (C). As usual Delaware North fails badly. This is not a restaurant. Not sure what to call it. When it is working you order your meal at a kiosk. The kiosk does not allow you to tip your server. The food is delivered to your table in takeout containers even if you are eating in. A horrible waste of resources. We saw no recycling, everything appeared to go to a garbage packer next door. If you want a cup of water, it will set you back 25 cents! That is a rip, especially as you will be spending a lot for your meal. The food is pretty good though. There are no other dining options in the area.

V
Victoria Bridges

Order via kiosk, then seat yourself. Had to clean our own table as all the empty ones hadn’t been bused nor cleaned. Floor was dirty. Pizza was meh at best. Garden salad was good. Fresh greens and large.

C
Cynthia Kan

Understaffed so you order at a kiosk then take a number and find a place to sit. The chili was good and so was the sandwich. Typical national park food so don’t have high expectations. The service is terrible, if you need anything you have to flag down a staff member as they rush around. Outside seating overlooks a lush green meadow. Restrooms and water fountain are in good condition. Skip breakfast and get microwave sandwiches from the market down the street for faster and cheaper.

H
Helen Marquis

Food was terrible - it looked nothing like the photos on the menu. I ordered a pizza and the chocolate cake. The cake was actually a walnut brownie rather than the three layer cake slice pictured, with no mention it contained nuts. Also they had no diet soda at all. No staff available to complain about the food. Bag overpriced experience all round.

S
Sulagna Sen

Our food took really long and the place was understaffed. The pizza in the menu had way more toppings than what was served to us. The place was understaffed with only two servers, there was nobody to complain to either. Nachos were alright. The place is decent considering this is among the very few eateries around the Visitor’s Center.

M
Michael Gottlieb

Come for the atmosphere and the convenience. On the positive side, the hostess for breakfast regaled visitors with dad jokes and consistently got customers laughing. The omelette I ordered was decent and a great way to have a healthy breakfast before a day of hiking. The pictures are from the second night we came for dinner (the same thing happened yesterday). Be prepared to bus tables in order to create a space. We watched guests wipe down eating and seating areas because staff had not done anything. As far as dinner food, the caprese sandwich was undercooked and cold. The summer berry salad was tasty.

R
Rick Rhay

The food is quite good, but everything else at this "restaurant" is pitiful. They have taken what was once a lovely table service restaurant, and stripped all of the "service" and charm from it, turning it into a fast food counter-serve spot. You order at a digital kiosk outside on the courtyard, but one of the two kiosks was out of service, so it takes twice as long to order as it should. There's a QR to allow you to order from your phone, but mobile service in that area is basically non-existent, so that's mostly useless. I acknowledge that the real problem here is staffing, and their inability to hire sufficient personnel, but that's a problem of pay, and the concessionaire definitely isn't going to erode their profit margins to maintain service levels, especially since they're basically the only food service in the area. Beyond that, the menu options are mostly fine, but there are no fries on the menu. You can sit in the lovely dining room, but everything is served out the window, to-go style, on paper trays with plastic cutlery, which is tremendously wasteful. At least the chili was good, and the Caesar salad was excellent when you add chicken to it, which you can do. The burger was dry and bland. Finally, check your order carefully for completeness and accuracy BEFORE you leave the counter. You may need additional dressing for your salad, and they didn't get the options right on one of my items. 2 stars because the 2 people who were working there were really trying. It's corporate who is to blame for this disappointment.

We were forced to eat here and the reviews were correct; the food is not good but very pricey! We ordered French toast, oatmeal and order of bacon, and fruit and that cost almost $30. The oatmeal was stiff and hard. My friend said the French toast wasn’t good at all. The bacon was fried so hard that it crumbled. And it took 30 minutes to get the food!!! Smh There are no servers just person who takes order and one yo bring food. Low quality of service because they know visitors don’t have any other option.

Our food took really long and the place was understaffed. The pizza in the menu had way more toppings than what was served to us. The place was understaffed with only two servers, there was nobody to complain to either. Nachos were alright. The place is decent considering this is among the very few eateries around the Visitor’s Center.

Such a shame to have such a bad excuse for a restaurant in such a beautiful destination. The park is fantastic and the trees are beyond majestic. The food here though, pretty much the opposite. Food had not taste and service was just as bad. Took ages to get a refill and even longer to get the check to get out of there. Unfortunately this is the only place to get a bite to eat within miles, so we are at their mercy and they know it. If only management could fix this, but probably don't care either.

I ordered mac & cheese for my 2 kids. When they started eating it. They said it doesn't taste like mac & cheese at all.. it wasn't cheeses more of a water taste. But I of course made them eat it anyway because it was a bit expensive for tasteless mac & cheese. I didn't want them to waste the food. I ordered the spinach wrap chicken. It wasn't really tasty because it was overload of mayo. It was a bit runny cold sandwich. I paid $14+ for it and I end up not eating it at all. Giving 2 stars for the order systems and the staffs friendliness. Order systems was easy. Dine out at the table to eat was okay too.

Food is ordered via two kiosks outside or via a QR code. The wait time for my order was 48 minutes; the order had one fish sandwich, veggie soup, and a lemonade. Limited seating is available outdoors with additional seating available indoors. The dining room had, unfortunately, no air conditioning, which resulted in a large stuffy room. Overall, the food was good, however, the wait time was unreasonably long given they were not busy.

Being in a beautiful national park forest I expected a much more natural and welcoming experience. You walk in and are confronted w computer screens w which to choose and order. No one to tell you what to do. Then you have to figure out where to wait for your number to be called and where to sit. Very impersonal! More of a cafeteria vibe. The restaurant that was torn down many years ago was so much better!

We stopped in for breakfast before leaving the park. The service was very slow- it took an hour for a french toast and breakfast sandwich. The breakfast sandwich was okay but the french toast was super dry. In hindsight we should have just cooked at our campsite before departing.

My family was very disappointed with the meal. A ridiculous amount of croutons in the cesear salad was the statement from my partner. The Mac and cheese has no taste came from the kid. I had the the plant based burger, a home recipe which worked quite well, especially with the available Tapatio sauce. Would have been a much better review if the other items held their own.

In summary, food is decent but the slow and boring hours completely ruins the whole experience. We came at 8:00 and we didn’t get out food until 9:00. I did not think that it would get to the point that we had 10 minutes to eat. Furthermore, they could've at least brought us the drinks a little earlier, but no. So, although the food was decent, the wait was very long.

The good news is food is basic but good. However don't go there hungry because you might wait hours to get it. I ordered a hamburger and a hot dog to go and had to wait 90mn. Staff in the room was helpful however kitchen was just slow, it wasn't even busy!

Over priced with mediocre at best food and service. We’re only leaving a score above one star because the place is clean. Service was slow and confused about what is on their menu. Food was bland and dry.

Know that eating here is mainly for the view and less for the food and service. It’s a lovely area and the tables outside are just wonderful. We ordered a variety of items which are individually commented on below: - Grant burger was the main highlight, juicy burger with good fixings - Mac and cheese was basically boiled macaroni with less flavor than plain macaroni. The sauce used was clearly made of powdered milk, water and flour. I didn’t think it was possible for Mac and cheese to taste so bland but they achieved that here - pizza was served hot and thoughtfully with a foil paper on top so it didn’t stick to the bag. It was also bland and needed a lot of help with Parmesan on top to find any flavor - caprese was nice and hot but cut and packaged like a club sandwich so while it should’ve been crispy, it was stacked on itself in such an odd way that it was soggy from its own moisture despite us eating it immediately after receiving - service was painfully slow…like watching paint dry after a sloth put the first two coats on Net net - grab snacks from the insanely overpriced market nearby or pack your own meal

Menu outside isn’t necessarily what is offered & isn’t depicted properly (doesn’t match what you actually get). When you come inside to order, you are directed to a kiosk to order but one was broken and the other had issues with the payment reader. Had to go ask for help multiple times just to place an order and it was difficult to find anyone working there (assuming they were all in the kitchen as there weren’t many people on staff). Everyone must use the one kiosk to place orders for dine in or take out. It takes awhile and there’s a line (and we were there early). The music they were playing inside the restaurant was loud and obnoxious elevator music. We waited at least ten minutes for our to go order. It was expensive for what you actually got and was not great food. For example, $4.99 for a small bowl of cereal and another $1.49 for oat milk. Then the breakfast burrito was only eggs, potatoes and cheese unless you paid extra to add meat. The burrito was mostly potatoes with some eggs, cheese, and some random sausage patties. Kids meal was probably the best deal with a pancake, eggs, bacon, and a fruit cup. When we got our order, we were missing a drink and it took a few minutes to find anyone to let them know. Not recommended but it is the only option if you don’t want to make your own breakfast. We were headed out of the campground early and wanted to get on the road quickly. It was food but it was expensive and not very tasty. We paid $53 for cereal, a plain bagel that was barely toasted, a breakfast burrito, kids meal, two coffees and two hot chocolates.

You are eating here because you’ve just realised it’s the only option within a 1 hour round trip. Sorry to be the bearer of your bad news. When you walk in it can be hard to find staff to even order in the first place, there is a self service screen but it’s frequently turned off. Food usually takes just over 30 mins to arrive, but is cold when it does arrive. The food is poor quality and highly priced. Some of the better sounding options on the menu are often out of stock (like the pizza) It does seem likely there are just two members of staff running the whole restaurant most of the time. The rear balcony area over the meadow is nice and you can almost count on seeing deer wandering around close to you which is lovely. Honestly, try to plan ahead and bring food with you into the park. If you have to eat here it will be expensive and you will likely still be hungry

Reduced menu options, very few options, food took 45 minutes to arrive. So few staff, no one was bussing tables, had to clean one ourselves to have a place to sit. Could only order at kiosk and only one was available which was intentional to slow down pace of orders. We got Philly cheesesteak sandwich, grilled chicken sandwich, and beef chilli. Food was acceptable quality. But first choices from menu were all unavailable.

This is one of the most disappointing places I’ve ever eaten. Gorgeous location in the National Park but really weird restaurant. On the way in you have to order from a touch-screen kiosk like you’re at McDonalds. You have to pick a table number and take it with you to one of the few clean tables. To begin with I thought it was a prank restaurant as there weren’t any waiters at all. Then one came rushing out with drinks and food to a table of exacerbated customers who had started gnawing on the table legs trying to find some kind of nutrition in this place. After seeing the food they went back to gnawing the table legs. Okay that last part was a joke but yeesh, food was pretty awful. My ‘veggie’ pizza is one of the oddest pizzas I’ve ever come across. It was like bare tomato puree was slopped on, some cheese and then a crunchy mountain of raw white onion, olives and a few sad mushroom slices. I can’t decide if the lingering aftertaste is bitter, sour or maybe both. Oh, and they included a bonus slice of ham on the ‘vegetarian’ pizza (see bottom left of photo). All in all, it’s a thumbs down. You’d be better off eating trail mix for dinner and saving some $$$ I’m off to brush my teeth now. The aftertaste triggering my gag reflex.

As a family we have been visiting Grant Grove for a few days each summer for nearly 50 years. The restaurant has been through multiple changes. Too bad the food is very forgettable. Orders are taken at the entry (or via a check in stand) and delivered to your table. I counted two servers who could lot keep up. Several tables were filled with used plates etc. Pizza, salad, grilled chicken sandwich, trout sandwich and Mac and cheese were all mediocre fairly tasteless. To be fair service has been an issue here for a long time. But the menu was better and food was much better in the past. No competition so it’s no wonder the owners do not care. The only highlight for me was the view of the meadow! If you have time head to Wuksachi. More expensive but worth the one hour drive compared to this place.

I went there last night and ordered a small salad and a grilled cheese sandwich. The cucumbers on my salad were so gross, they were slimy. If that's all the cucumber in the kitchen, say your out! My grilled cheese was burnt on the outside and not fully melted on the inside. Try harder.

I ordered breakfast for my family, was simply terrible and pricey. The girl forgot to put pancake and didn't even acknowledge their mistake. The girl at the pickup window was argumentative and had a bad attitude, no sense of service... Didn't order again after that horrible experience!

I would really like to write a great review of this place. It was clean, neat and smelled great. I went in, was pretty promptly seated, and then I sat there for 45 minutes. I asked three different people if I could get some help and was told "In a minute," three different times. Larger groups were seated after me, and had their orders taken before I was even offered a menu or given a glass of water. I didn't actually even need a menu, I'd already decided what I was going to eat before I sat down. I passed the time by writing a letter to friends back home. When I finished writing, addressing and stamping the letter, but still hadn't been helped, I left. I understand 1-tops aren't the most fun to serve, but this is ridiculous! I would have been such an easy customer. The place was not in the least busy, although I did hear someone tell a customer they were short- handed. I've worked in hospitality, and I can tell you rule #1 is to get someone a glass of water and a menu right away, no matter how busy you are. I guess since they're the only game in town they figure they can treat people however they want. Too bad, it's a nice facility in a gorgeous location.

I am still in disbelief about the experience my family had at this restaurant. Dinner at the restaurant was from 5pm-8pm. We arrived at 6:15pm to order dinner from the kiosk, as the contactless ordering option on the phone was not operational. As we were ordering, the cook approached us to power down the kiosk, telling us that he was not accepting any more orders and that we would have to go to the general store. The general store closes at 6pm. We informed the cook of this and he told us that we would have to go find food somewhere else. He was very abrasive and rude. The next closest restaurant was almost 40 mins away. We had no option but to make this drive to get food. Furthermore, in the several minutes that we were in the courtyard area reviewing the menu and during the time we spoke with him, we witnessed the cook touch his face and move is mask around and off of his face several times. I would encourage anyone who is planning to eat at this restaurant to have a backup plan in place before visiting.

The service was painfully slow and after the extremely long wait of roughly 40 minutes, my family and I were finally asked for our orders. After placing our orders, our drinks came 15 minutes later (even though we all ordered waters) and then our entrees and appetizers came all at once after another 46 minutes. All in all, horribly slow service, sub-par food, and overpriced for the quality.

R
Randon Reeder

Service was rude and inexperienced. While waiting you could overhear the staff talking about how busy it was, but when you look at the restaurant they only had 15 tables full with 4 waitresses, 2 hostess, and a busboy. You have plenty of staff. After waiting we sit down and my napkin has red particles all over it, looks like someone had a small nosebleed on my napkin. Then when I received my drink it had food particles in it already. Service was slow and the food on top of that was not good. Overpriced for bad food. Burger was dry and looked like it had been sitting a half hour before being served to me. Recommended skipping this restaurant.

J

Very bad service. They kept us waiting for a long time to be seated. After a long day in the national park, we were waiting to be seated with 2 kids, all very hungry. We have waited like 8 minutes, saw a few waitresses walking by randomly and 2 of them even avoiding eyes contacts. Another couple just left as we walked in and their faces look upset. We too left after 8 minutes... I would not recommend this place unless the staff gets it together.

S
Sharon Curry

We just had dinner at this restaurant tonight. We waited 38 minutes for the waitress to take our order for beverages and food. Thirty eight minutes while we watched her randomly walking around the floor obviously avoiding eye contact with my husband and I when we tried to get her attention. She spent 8 minutes shooting the breeze at a table next to ours laughing and joking about local sites...not an exaggeration. When she finally came to our table, my husband told her how long we had waited. She apologized, took our order, then a different waitress showed up with our beverages and food. From that point on the service was prompt. But our lunch service was slow and we had to steal utensils from a neighboring table. Our breakfast service was slow. We waited over an hour for breakfast. We didn't travel to Sequioa to spend 6 to 7 hours a day in a restaurant. We came here to hike trails and see the sites. The bad service at this restaurant seems to be acceptable amongst the waitstaff, which makes me question the tone at the top. If you are staying at the lodge or in the campground you have no other convenient alternative but this restaurant. Perhaps management is okay with crappy and slow service because they will never see us tourists again. Shame on management if this is the case. The bottom line is, if you intend to have a meal at this restaurant, you should budget at least 2 hours per meal out of your vacation adventure. Which makes this restaurant very expensive.

M
Michael Trask

Way over priced for the wait involved to get food. Plan to waste better than an hour to get your food. Expect to pay more than 70 dollars for 3 people. Buy your food outside of the park.

A
Alicia Jones

Place was dirty and tables full of rubbish as others have said. Food took ages to arrive. A basic burger comes with the options of crisps, chilli or soup but no chips- which is a bizzare choice. The burger my partner had had raw onions on it which was very unpleasant. Every night we came they were out of products including the salads and pizzas. Screens did not work for 95% of the time so then had to relay of slow staff. For saying it’s a restaurant it is anything but, no table service, no atmosphere, don’t get your drinks until your food order. It’s basically a worse version than McDonald’s and much more expensive.

D
Dave Hendrick

Even if you keep your expectations in check and expect mediocre national park food, the Grant Grove Restaurant will set a new standard for disappointment. Bad, very expensive food that takes forever to come. Tables filled with sad families wondering why their grilled cheese is taking an hour-plus. Unbussed, dirty tables abound. Seemingly very few people working, all of whom seem to be doing the best they can. A very sad spectacle in a beautiful place. Avoid if possible.

J
Jonathan

Atmosphere is pretty bad as you have to wait outside to get your order. It's fine if the weather is nice, but it was cold when I went. Then, when I finally get my food, which was about 30 minutes later they gave me the WRONG order. I ordered pesto salad and they gave me chili. Not to mention my food was just waiting at the counter for 10 minutes because the cashier was busy arguing with another customer instead of calling my order. For takeout, they don't even give you a bag to put your food in, which resulted in it actually spilling all over me when I got to the car and tried to balance it all on my lap. Now let's get to the food... My burger was very pink. I didn't order a medium rare burger and I'm not trying to get food poisoning. And my brother's pizza was undercooked on the inside. The dough was still gooey. I went to get a refund for my burger, which the manager was nice enough to provide, but still acted pretty rudely, did not apologize, and slammed the window in my face after refunding my card, and didn't hand me back my original receipt. One of the worst restaurant experiences I've ever had. Do not recommend to anyone.

The burgers were burned. The disappointment was nearly unbearable, just like the taste. Only the middle wasn't as black as coal. The panini alone made the food two stars. The wait makes paint drying an adrenaline pumping experience in comparison. The only other good feature of the otherwise miserable ordeal was that canine companions were allowed on the patio, but do not expect them to touch the leftovers. It is with a heavy heart, and a downtrodden soul, I must also point out that this overcooked nightmare cost 61 dollars without drinks. Let this review forewarn you, you'd be better off eating the pinecones.

Food takes 30 minutes from ordering. Take out gets priority so someone coming in after you gets their food first. Only one employee. Food is 3/5 okay. Restaurant is self serve self seat. Free water. Everything else is expensive. Biggest issue is only one employee and the amount of time food takes to come out.

J
James Kelly

Restaurant was empty. There was no host. Had to order off a half busted kiosk. Spent almost an hour waiting for a pre-made(I assume, they were somehow out of the "Build-Your-Own" and since they don't have a host, I couldn't ask) pizza that was somehow both burnt and cold. I miss the old restaurant that used to be here.

Breakfast was OK…dinner was a disaster. Made me sick. This is your only food option if you stay at John Muir Lodge. So bring supplies. Staff hates being there, food is terrible. Bummer. We traveled 25 minutes to the Pinehurst Lodge for dinner the second night so we wouldn’t have to eat here again.

I never put in bad reviews but dinner was terrible. Had to order off a kiosk. ( I get staffing issues but not a nice atmosphere). We ordered a burger and chicken sandwich. The burger tasted liked it was cooked 3 hours ago and sitting in a warming tray. The chicken sandwich was also cooked a while ago. The food was very bland and almost un-eatable. The Chili that came with it tasted liked it came out of a can. It was the best item we ate. Please step up your game. Worst $48.00 dinner I’ve ever eaten. (Peaks restaurant in Sequoia on the other hand (which we ate at last night) was a 5 star. )
