Sargam is our no-brainer for Indian takeout and they deliver too. The quality is always consistent. Their curries are authentic and super flavorful. We always order their Butter Chicken, Malai Kofta, Vegetable Korma and Dal Makhani. Their vegetable pakoras are delicious too. If you are an Indian food lover in the Lamorinda, Pleasant Hill and Walnut Creek areas then I highly recommend it. The owners and staff are very friendly and nice!

Naan and rotis are perfect and tasty ,(breads) garlic naan is the best bread ! The non veg feast is amazing for two people ! The sizzling prawns smell so good ,. Amazing place for dinner , i prefer the outdoor seating during the evenings. *Everybody should try the feast. its a once in a lifetime experience , and gives a glimpse of all varieties of Indian food in one go !* we can choose beers or wine to wash the food down ! and they serve indian beers which i had been missing for quite a while now , in the US ! The staff is so friendly , they make you feel like your at your friends place having dinner in his/her living room. And definitely they are dead cheap. it costed 75 $ for a 3 course meal for 4 of us , and tummy filled with yummy food . The gulaab jaamun(sugar balls) and kulfi (ice cream) were the best dessert i had here in california.

Great lunch break with wide selection at the buffet. I wouldn't advise ordering a drink as it didn't come until I was almost done. The Nan also didn't come until near the end and wasn't the best.

Great food. Loved their onion pakoda and their aloo gobi. They also give naan with their entrees with is much appreciated, given I am not a rice person. Altogether amazing food and highly recommended if you are looking for Indian food in Lafayette area.

This is the only Indian place that is close upon my area of work that is mostly open than the other Indian cuisines. Now here's the thing with this particular restaurant. It is not for people who are trying to make quick time. The staff here are very lax and will take time to fulfill your orders and also will take time if you need anything else. So if you're here to basically get in and get out you will not like this place and I advise it for people who are just chilling out relaxing and have all the time on their hands. Now this is a family restaurant it is run by a different culture and its service is generally different than most American services, some people may regard this as insensitive or rude but personally I just regard this as something that they do usually since I love any international kind of food and have more experience with these but these doesn't work really bothering me that bit. I ordered a tikka masala with a delicious mango smoothie. It is important to note that the tiki masala has a level of spice that they ask you. Now if you are like me and you can handle your spice I will go with spicy but if you can't and can handle a little spice a bit go with mild and if you just can't handle your spice at all. Try to tell him to just no on a spice. Overall the proportions were very filling the rice mixed very well with the sauces of the tikka masala and there was enough meat with the rice. Both the rice and the tikka masala comes separate bowls. Overall the tiki masala has that usual Indian sweet spicy tangy taste which meant to my satisfaction. Also the smoothie mango one, was very delicious $4 it is a bit pricey but it's very worth the excellent taste. There is nothing too much to say about this place. Food is great. Service is slow and very relaxed. And I pretty much would come here every time I can but I'm feeling very peckish about Indian cuisine. Overall, 10 out of 10 in my book

the food is wonderful and the service is always prompt and friendly. my favorite Indian food in the east bay! update 120719...this used to be my favorite Indian restaurant but it's gone downhill with new owners and new cooks. hey, it's still good, just not what it used to be.

What a delight, it was close to closing and staff was attentive. The food was very good- coming from Durban with a different perspective on (American) Indian cuisine, I am amazed and will definitely visit again! Thank you

Flavorful food, they can adjust spice level as requested. Generous portions. Price reasonable. Pleasant atmosphere. Dishes served on little candle heaters to keep food nice and warm.

Honestly one of the best Indian places in the Bay Area. Delicious food, reasonable prices. The service varies, especially if you sit outside but honestly the food is worth it! I’ve never had a bad meal here.

First time here. I asked for spicy chicken curry, and for the first time ever at an Indian food place, it was actually really spicy. Usually places don't take the "spicy" request serious and it's very bland and no heat to it. But with this, it had so much flavor. It was all dark meat too, which is the best. Definitely the best curry I've ever had. Tiki Masala was also really good, and is a great contrast of flavors to enjoy with the curry. It had the right amount of sweetness to it and lots of flavors, probably one of the most unique versions of Tiki Masala I've had. Got the variety naan basket and they were all very good sizes and very fresh, still very warm when I got it, and not reheated like some places do, it was all very soft, but had the right amount of tug to it. The customer service was great too, the woman who was at the front was very sweet and we had a light conversation about the restaurant. Very cool place, highly recommend it. I'm no expert, but this place tasted a lot more authentic than a lot of Indian food places I've been. There was just so much more complexity of flavors to the dishes that makes this place stand out to me in comparison to a lot of the other local Indian food places.

This place has good food, great service, friendly people, we ahd a party of 20. We arrived at 9 pm which is 45 minutes prior to closing. They accomodated us and made us feel welcomed. We were allowed to cut cake we brought in for celebration for which they put us on a different clean table and provided plates and spoons. Overall great experience

K

EXCELLENT Indian food for a good price. They always provide a good amount of food with each dish. Feel free to choose any of the Masala or cheese dishes and you will be pleased. Spiciness can be adjusted as needed. Take Out meals get the dishes in little containers that are washable and reusable. What a bonus.

The owner is so nice I love coming up here to dine. The food is delicious, fresh and they have the best lamb curry. I highly recommend if you ever visit Walnut Creek to check this place out. It's so worth it.

This is probably one of my favorite Indian places in the East Bay. If I want a large variety, as well as great Curry, this is where I go. I also found that if they know that you are reviewing them and posting about their restaurant, they tend to give you free stuff as well. We got some samosas, even though they weren't on the buffet. Will definitely be coming back!

A
Alyssa Sonksen

We got the chicken tikka masala, lamb curry and garlic butter naan with rice and tea. The curry was amazing, creamy and tasty. It was 44$ which was pricey but its walnut creek. The customer service was friendly and fast, there was very little wait time for the food. If ya want to splurge, try it! Nice place for dine-in setting.

Came in on a Saturday morning for lunch. We were a little early and it took them 10 minutes to get all the food out for buffet but well worth the wait. Food was excellent! Definitely recommend. Chicken tandoori was delicious. And don’t even get me started on the saag or carrot pudding.

I've been going to this place since they opened their doors. Haven't been in quite a while. Have ordered dinner to go 3X in about 6 weeks. Every time, the food was delicious, the portion size good, the price reasonable, the quality good. Friendly on the phone. One missedvorderblast time was made up for without argument. Will keep coming back. Hopefully, nothing changes.

Oh my gosh I've tried a lot of places in the Bay area for Indian food and I always make it a point to stop here I love this food The spices are very flavorful so many dishes are fantastic here My favorite is the tikka masala chicken it's so vibrant I love it. Great customer service. The owner see ms like a good guy and puts his heart in his work. His food is made with love this chef has a passion for cooking Indian. Even during the Corona virus times he packs the to-go order so nothing spills in your car this guy goes the extra mile. Thank you Sargam Indian cuisine... I wish I had more stars to even give you. Thanks

These guys were kind enough to do a last minute take-out order I placed and wow! Best Indian food I’ve ever had. Great customer service and looking forward to dining in rather than takeout as their layout is very homely and of traditional Indian culture. Consider me a regular moving forward. Thank you so much!

I went to Sargam for lunch with a group. I had the chicken curry while everyone else had the buffet. Everyone in the group was pleased with their meals and those who ordered the buffet had a second helping. The food tasted fresh and the garlic naan was the best naan I have ever tasted. Even my lemonade was perfectly sweetened. Those who had Chai tea really enjoyed it. The service was polite and responsive. I will definitely visit and/or order from Sargam Indian Cuisine again.

We come here every now and then, it's my favorite Indian. However, whoever was cooking in the evening on 10/31 made the food taste exceptional! It was way better than usual! Had a credit from Uber Eats I had to use by tomorrow, so I ordered Indian from Sargam. Tandoori Lamb, Chicken Tikka Massala, Garlic Naan, rice and raita. Everything came packed really well, and sealed against spillage. The Tikka had just enough spice for me, a little heat, but more flavor than hot, the lamb was tender and delicious and you can never go wrong with Naan.

Delicious Indian buffet-- naan is provided upon request, which I guess is so they can serve it hot and fresh. I especially love their deep fried vegetables and chicken Tikka Masala, as well as their saucy mushroom curry. Very fairly priced and not too busy even during lunch time.

Went for dinner on a Sunday night, quick seating. One other table sitting, a couple other parties came in shortly after. The one waiter for the place become overwhelmed. But we ordered and got our food fairly quickly. Food was very good. Good price. Nice place for something quick and easy. Nothing outstanding, but nothing bad.

J

Nice place to eat, at reasonable prices. My wife and I always smell the amazing aroma when walking on Ironhorse trail. Food was very flavorful, and portions were appropriate. Wine was already open when brought out to the table, which seemed abnormal, as normally restaurants will open at the table. Overall, very nice meal.

K

Got dinner for takeout from here for the first time. Used their website to order which was easy and my order was ready on time. I ordered chicken samosas, chicken tikka curry, and different naan breads and everything was quite good and enough to feed two. The naan was fluffy & tasted good, and the curry was excellent. The samosas were also good and very flaky, the sauces that came with our order were also very good. Overall a good place and I look forward to getting takeout from here again.

L

Tasty food, generous portions for the price. Super easy online ordering for pick up. Not super mind blowing taste, but definitely yummy. The guy working last night was a bit frosty and there was NO parking in the parking lot. I have ordered from there a few times now and the food and service have not changed. At least the food is really good.

Beautiful quaint and humble Indian restaurant in the middle of Walnut Creek with a delicious, well stocked colorful buffet. The long grain rice was perfectly cooked. Plenty of vegetarian options with various chickpeas, lentils and curry options. Vegtable samosas nicely baked filling. Also chicken tandori and a tandori fried fish, Delicious! Everything tasted fresh, loads of flavor, with lots of fresh cut vegetables in the mini salad bar and in the meat dishes. This day they had a delicious sweet carrot dish for a dessert, plus water melon and orange slices. They also bring a Naan basket, unfortunately my Naan was burnt and tasted quite burnt rather then nutty and toasted, I generally love Naan so hopefully it was just an overcooked batch this day. Ambiance was lacking, no music or even a television to bring the atmosphere up to a more warming hospitable place. The quite of a place hearing people eating was a bit uncomfortable. Flowers, music, lighting, overall ambiance is missing, especially for a Walnut Creek location. They are well stocked wine, which would indicate a possible location along Iron Horse trail to enjoy wine and some delicious food. Maybe it's different in the evening. Overall a great a friendly lunch buffet for twenty dollars. Absolutely recommend for your Indian food fix!

3 star is not for the food, but rather for cleanliness. The glasses, cutlery were dirty, restroom had no toilet paper and it was dirty overall. As to the food, in general good, mutter paneer was too spicy, asked for a mild though. As to the service, below average - not a friendly vibe. So lots of opportunities for reincarnation of this place.

R

Order from the menu—it’s better than the buffet. I usually like the buffet because it offers a chance to try different dishes is small amounts. This buffet is not worth it. Stick to the menu.

Check your bag when doing a takeout, they miss items, even though you might have paid for it. Their aloo tiki was the worst I have had. Tikka masala and others are decent not out of this world.

Was impressed with so many items in buffet but then my favorite item noodles which was kind of uncooked turned my mood off. However it had the awesome fruit custard which i Completely loved it and so i am giving four stars. The vegetable korma was also real yumm not to be missed.

S

We were there for the lunch buffet, and as the stars show it was okay. I had chicken curry and a couple of other things I no longer remember. The best thing about lunch was the naan brought not and fresh to the table whenever you ask.

For Takeout their Tikka Masala and Nan is delicious. However for dine in I don't think customer comfort is their priority yet. Went to Sargam unfortunately it was a 90 F day, they allow dine in but they didn't turn on their air conditioning or fans. So I was heavily sweating and couldn't fully enjoy the food.

A
Alexis Roucourt

As of right now standing at the front for an order labelled ‘ready’ since 20mins. No one to pick up, they’re making it now (because I asked). Sorry guys, can’t have orders labeled ready, customers drive in, and force them to awkwardly peep in the kitchen to get a proper answer and their food. Update: but, the food was good! Upgrading to 3 stars. Hope you improve the service.

E
Emily Bolmen

I want to give this place more, but... somehow... it's just not up to a four-star rating. The food is certainly adequate but unmemorable. The decor is interesting but a little tired & worn. The wine list doesn't match the restaurant's stock or pricing. The Bollywood television is distracting. A lot of little details that subtract from the overall experience.

S
Shari W.

Used to come here often but I think owner may have changed. Decor definitely has. Chana Dal quite good(menu says 'served with Naan or rice' but the waiter said if we wanted either we had to order separately), Naan ok but mediocre, Onion Pakora good but not very crispy, Mixed Grill was good, Aloo Gobi decent but we ordered mild spice for the one that doesn't like spicy food and it was very spicy!, Mixed Vegetable Korma was just ok, Vegetable Rice Biryani was pretty good. Order was taken quickly BUT it took almost 30 minutes before the Onion Pakora came out....then another 30 minutes before the Mixed Grill and another 15-20 minutes before most of the rest ....the Biryani didn't arrive until we were almost finished! There was only 1 other table (3 people who were already eating when we got there). We asked why and were told there were many take out orders!!!!!! WHAT??????? The whole time we were there we saw 1 person come to pick up. I highly doubt we'll come here again 😞

Really medicre Indian Buffet. Depending on when you arrive, it could be a two or three star experience. We started with two-day star the food trays were all empty and bread was burned. They filled out the food containers toward the end of our stay. People were nice but cannot make up for the quality. Plus, everything was so spicy that I couldn't give my toddler anything but plain rice, which was also mediocre. No offense, but the people who give the restaurant a high rating probably haven't been to a great Indian Buffet.

J
Jake Jacob

Food was fine, but in general for a buffet, naan and a last is included. I was charged $5 each. I probably should've asked, and they should've spoken to me as well. Not too happy about this

k
kris13iam

Nondescript place. Feels old and tired. Decent food but no vegetarian labeling on the buffet and there were absolutely no workers to be found to ask. Thus I had to peek in the kitchen to get some help. Service was fair. One person at our table ordered hot water and it took at least 10 minutes to get even though only two other tables were occupied.

They advertise lunch buffet but did not have it. I was looking forward to it being that it would be my first time eating Indian food, I wanted to try different things at one time. The waitress was not friendly and disappeared after serving my food. I asked a couple for a suggestion so I got the curry chicken and the garlic flat bread, it was good! I asked a man who came out the kitchen for rice pudding for dessert, after serving it, I only ate two spoons, it was soupy, I don't know if it was suppose to be. He asked me how was it I told him I didn't like it but he still charged me. I will not be going back. In the pictures, I plated my own food.

He asked me how was it I told him I didn't like it but he still charged me. I will not be going back. In the pictures, I plated my own food.

Food was quite bland and not very appetizing. The kheer and chai were the only saving grace. Service was fine.

Ordered some noodles. Was nowhere near to the indo Chinese noodles, to the point that everybody in my house couldn't even eat a single spoon. The traditional Indian food was much more acceptable with crispy and tender naans, and tasty currys

Quality has been very inconsistent. Sometime same dish taste awesome and something not at all to the same level. It is important to be consistent, may be next time. Hopefully...

Didn't give me full change back. Didn't give me a receipt. Took 20 minutes for some samosas that tasted of old potatoes. Kinda mid ngl.

The food is ok. Service is bad. The server didn't come back to check on us. Asked the lady for a box and in 30 mins later she finally showed up. The decor is worn. The telly is very distracting. Its definitely not an upscale restaurant so your staffs don't need to wear formal uniform!

The service is not good. Food is okay, but I would recommend getting take-out if you want your Indian fix. Service takes a long time and they don’t seem to care about your experience in the restaurant. We had 6 in our party. Maybe the service is better for a 2-top...? We ordered the dinner feast for 2 (among other things) and were brought the check without all of the items brought to the table included in the feast, nor were we offered the items such as dessert or drinks. We were also charged for the drinks that should have been included. I don’t know if it was a lack of caring, oversight or just a plain mistake, but it was not an experience I would like to repeat.

Food is pretty good for Indian food in the US-a bit expensive. The problem is with take-out orders missing items. Don’t trust that everything you ordered is in the bag and make sure to check that the sauses are included. One time we went there to pick up and our order had been given to someone else. Last night I asked for rice pudding to-go and got home to find raita. Not what I had in mind for dessert.

This place has gone seriously downhill. Staff is completely disinterested in providing any kind of level of service. Wait time for food was very long, and nobody came to check on us or refill our drinks. Any time we wanted anything we had to flag someone down. Despite the restaurant being quiet, dirty tables were not cleared. The check was just dumped on our table without so much as a thank you or a "how was your meal?" Appetizers (mixed pakoras) were soggy and cold. Mains (after an hour or more in the restaurant) were fine, but certainly not good enough for us to ever go back and face that terrible service again.

Ordered take out some vegetarian food. Okra, chili paneer and biryani+ paratha, Roti. The food was tasteless and left me feeling bloated (biryani tasted alright). Too expensive for something that ruins both your taste buds and your stomach.

Worst customer service. Placed a large catering order. The food was alright. I had asked for cutlery, plates, cups and napkins and received none of that. When the driver arrived, he harrased the venue coordinator for a tip. When I called to inquire about the tableware, they said they would bring it in a few minutes. They litteraly dropped it at the door and left. The cups and cutlery were so dirty and dusty like they were pulled out from some old closet that we could not even use them. NEVER DOING BUSINESS WITH THIS HIGHLY UNPROFESSIONAL RESTAURANT AGAIN!

Horrible experience...food was not fresh except Bread.. Chicken was lightly smelly like it was cooked 2-3 days ago, even all fried items was soggy including samosa ( refried type), rest of the food items were very bad in taste, they use lots of food colours which may harm your body, after having this food i had decentry..ambience is too bad...not at all good just waste of money.. Not recommended

Called ahead about the lunch buffet, specifically to make sure it included chicken tikka Marsala and hours. After arrival, had to go straight to the staff member at the front desk to tell him the bin with the chicken tikka Marsala is empty and to please get it filled up, because that is almost the only thing we eat (party of five). I also asked for Naan bread. The man said I should order a separate dish, and pay extra despite the fact that was part of the buffet they offered - had to explain myself and point that out before he nodded and proceeded to the kitchen to get this done. After a long wait while we’re nibbling on other foods we don’t care much for, finally the bin was filled. The naan bread took a lot longer arrive. . To summarize, the chicken tikka Marsala here was below average of what we’re accustomed to and do not recommend it. The service here is extremely slow and waiting for a re-fill on the naan bread basket tool another 15 minutes or so. It finally arrived when we were almost done eating. I will not return here #NeverAgain.

Two thumbs down! My visit was met with a water down curry. I have never had this before in the thousand ovations I have had Indian or middle eastern cuisine this is the first time I experience this. The flavor was weak and too mild for what a good curry sauce should be. Also in my life I been served curry without rice. Hmmm?? Maybe they felt I wanted to have curry without rice. They have been there for many years but my expierence was one that I will not go back or recommend them. Bad job this time.

The food was fine but don't order them for delivery, They will tack on all sorts of charges. I called them directly rather than using grubhub and the delivery fee was twice as much. We're ten min away and they said they kept adding fees because we were so far. Then they kept saying we had to order more food to reach the price minimum as well. Then they took our credit card and hung up before giving us the total. The $30 dinner suddenly became $50. When we called to ask why they tried to say they would give us $5 off our next order without taking our names. The problem is I will never use that $5 off because I will never spend my money there again. There is better Indian food in Walnut Creek, don't waste your money here they're crooks.

We’ve been ordering from this place for about a year, either from DoorDash or calling directly and picking it up. We like the food slightly better than Saroor so it became our go to Indian place. Every time we pick up in store we end up waiting at least a few minutes sometimes longer. Today we were told 25-30 minutes on the phone, we showed up around 35 minutes after calling, didn’t get our food until 60 minutes after calling. We get home to find out our paneer tikka masala is actually shrimp, and my husband is allergic to shrimp. I call back and spend 5 minutes explaining to two different people the issue, and eventually I say we can go back to drop off the shrimp and pick up the paneer. My husband drives back over there and they go to get him the paneer masala, he asks if that was it no refund or anything, and they say yeah, and they don’t give us a refund even for just the messed up dish that we had to drive back for. I felt so bad for DoorDash drivers sitting waiting on people’s food, they easily could have completed a full other pickup and delivery in the time they sat waiting. This doesn’t seem to be a one off thing, and they literally didn’t even refund the dish when they gave us the wrong food item with a common allergen and we had to drive back, so it looks like they’ve lost a repeat customer.

Worst experience I have had in the walnut creek area. 1st walked in and no one was there to seat me for 10 min. Mind you there is only 1 table taken. Then was seated without a menu, so waited more. When food came presentation was nice but they gave me a dirty plate, so I asked for a clean one, to be given another dirty one. Chutney missed the mark and the food was meh.

I wanted to try this place ever since I moved to Danville last year. When I seen they had brought out a lunch menu I thought it was the perfect time to take my wife. Sadly, I was very disappointed, if I could give this place zero stars, I would. Both of my parents are from India and my wife from Arabia, so not new at all to the Indian cuisine. Sadly the food didn’t taste anything like it should of, in fact it didn’t taste of anything at all. For $20 per person I should of known but I usually smell it on my way to the office so thought it has to be good, sadly I was very mistaken. On top of that, they charged me extra that I never knew about. They gave me a receipt of $45, but took $60 from my account. It’s sad cause if one never knew Indian food I’d hope they don’t think this is what we represent. The people who work there I guess are generally good people, it’s a shame about the quality of food and the lady who thought it was okay to overcharge us, mistakes happen granted but come on, I went back to the restaurant later on in the evening and showed them my bank statement and matched it with the receipt, they couldn’t give me an answer lol. Yeah, anyway, not the place for me and wouldn’t recommend it to any of my clients.

This place has gone downhill like a speed skier down the Swiss Alps. I'm not even demanding authentic Indian taste as the locality is mainly non Indian. But I do expect fresh, properly cooked, non stale food. Don't wish to give too many details as it's cumbersome to explain it all. Let's just say this was a much better 3 star place in 2016. Now it's a zero star.

We used to love the food here, it is really tasty. However, this time I had a most horrible, once-in-a-lifetime experience: a cockroach baked into the naan. Please see photo below. I'm still gagging even as I'm posting this. Their chefs are very competent, but the hygiene is absolutely gross - and that's the management's fault. I'm never ordering anything from there again, which is sad because the food tasted so good, despite possible cockroach juice. Who knows what else is ground into the masala.

I recently had a very concerning experience at Sargam Indian Cuisine Restaurant, that I feel compelled to share. We ordered take out from this restaurant on March 11 to be consumed over 2 to 3 meals. We opened the lamb biryani box on March 12th when suddenly in the middle of the meal, My husband accidentally bit on something inedible. Thinking it was a piece of bone in a boneless lamb biryani box, he spit out a PIECE OF BLADE. Needless to say, this was an extremely distressing and potentially dangerous discovery. The blade was sharp enough to cut through thick paper. I immediately contacted the restaurant to inform them of what had happened, and while they offered us a free dinner, the owner denied that the incident had taken place at their restaurant. Instead the owner indirectly tried to pin the whole incident on us. Considering we are moving out of state in 3 days, we are living out of disposable plates and spoons. There is no way for the food to be mishandled on our end. When my husband tried explaining to him that he is not comfortable dining at this restaurant again, the owner hung up while he was still in the middle of the sentence. This lack of accountability and concern for the safety of their customers is completely outrageous. I will be reporting the incident to the local health department and provide them with photos of the blade and the food box. I hope that this will prompt an investigation and ensure that proper food safety measures are put in place at the restaurant. Overall, I would caution others to be wary of dining at Sargam and to thoroughly inspect their food before consuming it. This experience has left us both feeling uneasy and low key traumatized.
