Recensioni di Daruma Sushi Berkeley
Sushi is good! Got the snow crab roll, salmon skin hand roll, spicy tuna roll, Berkley roll and salmon roll and they were all good! No food poisoning either so major plus! We got there right at 11am, and it's a cute little place. Felt like we were in Japan based off the decor! The place is small, right when you walk in the main area where the sushi bar is at you may be able to have 18 people in this room at the most! There is another side that has some seating. So definitely not a place for large groups! The service was on point, gentlemen making the sushi was very kind but when we asked to split or check per item, he was confused. He replied if I wanted to split it evenly and I said no I'd like it to be split per item of what each person ordered and it was like I was speaking a different language to him. He was able to figure out what I meant but this is the only negative thing I would say, don't assume people are on the same check. Staff need to make sure they ask prior to combining checks to save the confusion for the future. Also another side note, it is Berkeley and this location is located and what looks to be the ghetto. I am not from that area at all but do not let the location deceive you. This is a very good place! Prices are reasonable for the size of the sushi rolls. Average price is roughly $16 per roll and you get eight pieces out of each roll. If back in the area we'll definitely go back. Also a major plus, we were given complimentary edamame!
So good to see this space alive again after being close for so many years. They recent opened and I went for dinner where I had the Lion King, Dragon Roll and some seaweed salad and it was all so filling! Great friendly service and my new local sushi place.
So far I like this place and I wanna go back. I only got an order of ikura which is my favorite but it was really good and I want to try other things next time I'm there and I'll update. My partner really enjoyed his yaki udon.
Loved the unagi taco, and my bento box with chicken katsu! Warm and homey feeling- will go back for sure
Very delicious and great service in the style of a traditional sushi restaurant

My Husband and I have been looking for a solid sushi place for us and our two teenagers. As you can imagine finding a place to suit everyone can be a challenge. After 2 misfires we landed here and though the other two might be nice for an array of other reasons, this fits all expectations across the board. The environment is very cute and like being immersed in a sushi place in Japan(Gorgeous woodwork). The staff was friendly and there was a lovely live musician that really said the environment to the next level for a Friday night out with the family. The food was incredible and since we went for happy hour, everything was priced better than just about any Restaurant we’ve been to recently. The rations in the rolls were proper nice chunks of avocado!!! GET THE SPIDER TACO!!! Kk byeeeeee
This is a great neighborhood Japanese restaurant. The tables are small, probably best suited for no more than 4 or 5 people. They were very friendly and accommodating to our group on a Friday evening. We arrived a few minutes before happy hour ended and were still allowed to order from the happy hour menu (what a great value!) They have many delicious dishes other than sushi. Everything we ordered was tasty and the portions were generous.
A true gem of a local sushi spot. The sushi is great, the fish fresh, and the service and environment lovely.
Great sushi, lots of choices, I had trouble choosing only a few! I had the love roll with salmon and it was heart-shaped, and delicious. Unassuming from the outside, but great food.
Very tasty, good quality sushi at great prices. Happy hour prices are even better. We came in to pick up an online order but they didn't receive it due to poor Internet, so they expedited the order and finished it quickly. I would recommend dining in or calling in to avoid this.
Food is great for a quick lunch! The place is small but well distribute, the food comes out quick and well made. Only reason not a 5 star (Food) is too many options in the menu and some rolls were too cold (perhaps pre-made earlier in the day) but still very tasty and great for the price!
Very happy to have another sushi place here, even better than the previous one (which we really enjoyed). The food is great, as is the service and the ambience. All the sushi we've tried has been very good, and we've also enjoyed the gyoza and the croquettes.
All-around excellence. The quality of the food could justify much higher prices, but let's not tell them :) I'm not usually food fusion person, but their veggie sushi taco is hybrid perfection.

I’m happy to find a place near home for sushi + yakitori. It’s small enough to feel cozy and intimate but big enough to get a table at a busy time. Sashimi pieces are generously sized and fresh. Yakitori was well seasoned, and there are vegetarian options. Japanese green paper = shishito peppers. Yum! Husband and I had a full meal (sushi/sashimi combo, roll, 4 yakitori skewers) with a bottle of hot sake for $85 November 2023. They have a sign on the wall advertising 2 $50 gift cards for $90.

very affordable. decent food. a couple things were off like the edamame seemed old & tasted of refrigerator
We placed an order online for pick-up which gave us an estimate for 20 minutes. We got to the restaurant when it had been 30 minutes, and they told us it still wasn't ready. Overall it took 50 minutes to get our food, and gave us free edamame for the wait. There were also other people who had been waiting a while for their food too. Overall the food was decent though.

I have been to this restaurant twice now. My first experience wasn't great. But I wanted to give them a second shot. I've had several different items off the menu, and wasn't impressed by any of them. The tako taki was definitely frozen, the ton katsu was the thinest driest slice of pork I have ever seen, the unagi in the unagi yaki meshi tasted extremely fishy, and the sashimi salad was the biggest let down. A small handful of spring mix with 8 dime sized pieces of sashimi with no dressing or sauce for 12 dollars. The okonomiyaki was the only thing that was redeeming. There prices are just too high for the quality of food and the portions they serve, and that "sashimi salad" should be considered a crime.
We like the food ok, but the service is beyond awful. We went in person and although there weren't that many people, the food took forever. We decided to give them another chance and ordered online. They needed 50 minutes to make an easy order during a non-busy time, then when we got there on time, they told us it would be another 15 minutes. This time we're done with them.
Very tiny inside. It's like your sitting right next to the others..ordered a California roll which was very good. An Alaskan hand roll with tuna which was terrible tasted bad no flavor at all ..and 2 orders of salmon negri ..salmon was tasteless then they suggest a tip amount which I've always thought is Insulting and pushy. I was getting my money out and the girl came by and stood there. I told her I'd get to it. That was pushy. .anyhow great California roll but i wouldn't go back

The sushi is good but I got a bento box and it kinda sucked. The salad was hot and wilted, the tempura was soggy, the miso soup had some weird uncooked mushrooms in it, and the short ribs were nearly all fat and there was literally a couple bones with no meat on them. Like, why even put it in the Togo box if it’s not edible. Pretty disappointed, I’ve had the same thing before and it was really good. Seems pretty overpriced for a major lack of effort.
I never review places but felt compelled to do for this place. Placed a pickup order for bento box and kamikaze roll. Bento box was fine and decided to eat the Kamikaze roll later in the day. Once I ate it, I had some sort of reaction to it because my lip swelled slightly and tongue got slightly numb. Also my skin developed red spots as if I got sun burned right after I ate it. Ate sushi all my life and never had any reaction. This was different and I’m not coming back.
Waited for over 20 minutes and food never came, and there was no sign that my food was ever going to come. Others were having the same experience. They seemed to be completely ignoring the people eating alone, while promptly serving the groups. Terrible experience; I advise against eating there.
