This place works like magic, you have your order taken while standing in line so the time you pay at the register it’s handed to you. I don’t know how they do it, the staff who took my order was taking down a lot of orders, never saw her go back to the kitchen. So make sure you know what you want before she gets to you! I wasn’t prepared to pick my bagel flavor and wanted to change it before paying but it was too late. Not a bad choice though, my onion bagel was warm, thick and chewy, almost pull apart soft! I got the Kelly, scrambled eggs with avocado and scallion cream cheese, recommended! Even for $9 I’d def get it again. So many wonderful coffee shops in the area and Tompkins Square park is just a block away - TSB’s unofficial dining room
I recently visited the delightful Tompkins bagels and my experience was nothing short of excellent, just as advertised. I chose the sesame bagel with cream cheese and gravlax, and it was a decision well made. The bagel was toasted to perfection, achieving a wonderful balance between a crunchy exterior and a delightfully soft middle. The quality of the gravlax was impressive, adding a remarkable flavor to the meal. Overall, my visit here was extremely satisfying. I highly recommend this place for anyone looking for a delicious and well-prepared bagel.
Edited to add an update that I’ve been slightly disappointed lately in the consistency of our orders. See pics attached for an example of how much variance there is in the cream cheese from one visit to the next. 😕 We never know what to expect so we’ve started ordering a small container of cc to go in case we end up with a “light shmear”. —— I’ve been meaning to post a review here for years! TSB has been our Sunday morning go-to place since it opened. Delicious and great quality, fresh bagels every time. Wide variety of cream cheeses, spreads, and specialty sandwiches. Tons of other food items available for purchase, too, from bottled water and orange juice to pastries to hot sauce and honey. Lovely service. Never disappointed!
Had to stay in line for more than 1 hour on a rainy Sunday after arriving at around 11:30 am. It was worth the wait though. I got everything bagel, scallion cream cheese, lox, tomato, onion and capers. It was absolutely amazing. I got their fresh squeezed orange juice for a drink and it was great too. Highly recommended.
If you are thinking of getting some bagels for breakfast or lunch on a Saturday morning, Tompkins Square bagels has you covered. They serve breakfast all day, have some limited seating, and Tompkins Square Park is right across the street. They are a classic bagel establishment with lots of bagel and cream cheese options (including some vegetarian ones). Do not be deterred by long lines as it moves surprisingly quick. Overall, I would recommend this spot if you are in the neighborhood.
I love this place! They have a really good bagel and lox but my favorite is the bacon egg & cheese bagel. They have several cool schmears (cream cheese) available and always have new flavors. Probably my favorite place for a Bagel & schmear honestly. It's always good vibes. Like any place thats really good, there will most likely be a line but it moves quickly and efficiently.
Great bagels and great service. Very long lines but it moved very quickly. Normally I leave five stars for places with bathrooms that I can snap mirror selfies in, but Tompkins Square Bagels is the exception…why? They have a bathroom and you could probably snap a selfie but someone took the key which isn’t the store’s fault. So, five stars.
I checked out Tompkin’s bagels this morning, thinking I had not been there. Ben, I remember coming here in 2021 and remembered how amazing the bagels were. Today I had a plain bagel, not toasted, with lox and cream cheese. They put dill in the cream cheese, and also put capers and t d onions on this particular type of bagel that I ordered. It had a really good balance of flavors. It has a great atmosphere and plenty of space to enjoy whatever you order. They have a large variety of things to choose from. Check out the pics of cream cheese. New York bagels are definitely better than any I’ve ever had. Tompkin’s bagels are certainly at the top. If you’re in Gramercy Park area, check them out.
Bagels good, cream cheese toppings the best. There's usually a line here and it's easy to see why. I'm a tourist and this was a worthy stop in NYC. I ordered the whole wheat bagel with plain cream cheese because I wanted to go simple. It did not disappoint. The fresh cream cheese was light, fluffy, and less tangy than the store bought. I'm spoiled now. My friend let me try the bacon chive cream cheese and it was so, so fresh. What a difference! I also bought a fruity pebble fruit loop rice krispie treat for my son. There are other tasty goodies like lemon bars. Even if they had just the gazillion types of bagels and fresh toppings, this place would still be awesome. They are pup friendly and I'll give a paw-out to the adorable ruby cavalier KCS Willa whose human gave me the fabulous recommendation above.
Probably one of the best bagels I have ever had .. we got here around 8 and just missed a long line. Quick service though .. has the lox bagel with everything bagel and fig and honey cream cheese on the pumpernickel bagel ….. and oh wow the coffee was surprisingly so good !!! I wish we had time to come back for more !!! It was so delicious - they give a good amount of cream cheese to bagel 🥯
I LOVEEEEE this spot. it’s one of my go-tos if im in the area, so conveniently placed next to the park too. the variety in cream cheeses are the best part, and you can try each one before you buy. the bagels are always fresh and SO DELICIOUS. 10/10 please go here
My favourite bagel place in New York. Get a bagel sandwich or just a bagel w/ cream cheese. Either will blow you away. Hoping to visit more to try the rest of the menu, but this is one of the spots I make sure to go to every time I'm in NYC. Another plus: it's right by Tompkins Square Park.
Delicious bagels, unique cream cheese flavors, variety of sandwich options. Recommend coming on a week day or avoiding busy hours on the weekend. Scrumptious sandwiches, good coffee, great service. Variety of Vegan and vegetarian options including impossible meat substitutions. Pictured: mosaic man and Brooklyn Gino, both on everything bagels. Check out the third picture for cream cheese flavors.
We split a Weezer (chorizo bacon and egg) and a Koch (pastrami and egg). Both very good, though I definitely preferred the Weezer. The bagels were great. Decent coffee too.
The food was fresh and yummy, so many flavors. The service was really nice. T gave me extra cream cheese I wanted to try and also let us order new bagels at the front when it was so busy. He wasn't stressed at all either. The atmosphere was so busy but it was worth it for the food.
It’s not often that there are no meat/ no egg bagel sandwich options, but Tompkins Square Bagels had so many choices, I had trouble deciding! Fluffy and delicious bagels, unique cream cheese flavors, and great coffee. My partner enjoyed the classic ham, egg and cheese sandwich.
Awesome bagel spot. Egg sandwiches were great! Was there for New Years Day so it was packed and it seemed like their system they had for bagels may have gotten messed up because we waited 35 minutes for our 2 egg sandwiches when people who ordered after us were getting theirs but I’m willing to go again on a day less busy!
Without a doubt, this is the best bagel I've ever tasted! Crafted from scratch, these bagels achieve perfection. The variety of options, both in terms of bagel selection and spreads, is extensive. Although it did take nearly 45 minutes to navigate the line, the wait was more than justified. The staff's excellence is truly commendable – they handle the bustling atmosphere with remarkable ease and ever-present smiles. I wholeheartedly recommend this place!
So many flavors, a person could be there all day trying to decide on what to eat. A quick bagel with cream cheese? A warm breakfast or specialty sandwiches? A muffin, a cookie, a croissant, a scone? We recommend you study their menu before you go. A warning about the bagels, one can feed two regular people or one giant person. SO MUCH FOOD and we'd do it again!!
Easily the best bagels I've ever had. We came here for breakfast and the shop was quite busy. Despite the long line the workers are very fast and efficient at what they do so it moves quickly. Service was excellent. In addition, despite the fast service the bagels did not take a hit in quality at all. They were fresh, soft and delicious. You can get any typical bagels you would like here, including begal sandwiches. They also have a variety of unique cream cheeses to try including an espresso flavour that kind of tastes like desert (in a good way).
Delicious bagel place! Line was out the door but it moved fast. Worth the wait. My bagel was perfect! Could tell they make them fresh everyday. Only downside is they took my order before I got to the specialty cream cheese display. Might have tried the espresso or birthday cake flavor.
Oh. My. God. This was the best bagel of many I tried in Manhattan. Both the shmear and the bagel were flavorful and they balanced out well. Not only that, but you could still get a bit of cream cheese flavor from the shmear, not just the added blueberry flavor. The bagel was perfectly chewy and crusty but not tough or hard. Service was charming and fast. Would go back here in a heartbeat!
Went here after some pre-trip research and it lived up to all of the reviews. The sheer variety of bagels, fillings and cream cheese means that everyone will find something they like. My husband got a Mosaic Man sandwich - ham, smoked turkey, cheese, salad - while I opted for a traditional Lox on an everything bagel. The staff were really helpful, proving tips/advice and the bagels were incredible and big enough for my husband to eat half of mine and keep one half of his for lunch later. Another New York must. The bill was $40 including two coffees and a tip.
This place were the only ones that changed my mind about bagels. I never liked them before until I tried Tompkins Square Bagels and then I got fat cause I had to have my bagels every weekend. It was so worth it and now that I moved to another country I think about them constantly and wish they had another place in my city. Please try them for sure there will be a thing you will like, all the other sandwiches are delicious too. They have all sorts of juices and coffee and drinks. Amazing place, fast service and quality always good.
This breakfast was such a highlight of our trip to NYC. There’s a line out the door but it moves really fast, they take your order whilst you’re in line, and as you’ll see from my videos they have a very efficient production line to churn out the orders. Deliciously soft and freshly made bagels, I got mine filled with smoked salmon with tomato, capers and cream cheese (flavoured with dill/herbs/cucumber). Every element was so flavourful and high quality ingredients. There’s absolutely nowhere to sit so we walked nearby over to Tompkins Square to eat in the park. There’s so many things to try in NYC but if I return I’d definitely eat at this bagel place again 🤤 Highly highly highly recommend
Excellent bagel spot near the park. They recommend not toasting the bagels, which I may not be fully on board with, but I must say that their bagels are always solid. I got a bacon, egg, and cheese on everything and loved it. I will say that the bagel to filling ratio is high, but the bagel itself is tasty so not a huge problem. It also seems healthier or cleaner than other spots, meaning less greasy/oily and I don't feel like garbage after eating it. The staff is really nice and the inside is a decent spot to sit and snarf down your meal. All around a great spot for a quick bite!
This place is amazing! Not sure if I would wait in crazy long lines for these bagels, there are plenty in NYC, but I got lucky and with almost no line at weekday 10am got mine. Tofu cream cheese selection is great. I got tofu sun dried tomato cream cheese and it was awesome. With coffee and small bw cookie payed $13. Would definitely come back for the sweet cream cheese.
Delicious bagels. We ordered “off menu” and just got a bagel with 2 eggs, bacon (or sausage) and cheese. We liked the Everything bagel a lot. We liked the bacon sandwich better than the sausage. They have tons of cream cheese choices and lots of vegan options. At 7:20, it was not super busy, but waited around 10 minutes for the bagel to be ready.
When I tell you I came here 5 years ago and I haven’t stopped thinking about my French toast bagel from Tompkins Bagels, I’m not lying. After partaking, I couldn’t speak for about 3 minutes because of my food- gasm. I am planning a trip back to NYC this spring just so I can visit. I would do anything just to have another bite. Not joking at all.
This place runs like a machine during rush hour! We thought it would be a long wait but it really wasn't even with the line out the door! We had our order taken while in line and we got to the cashier very quickly. We went for a mid Saturday morning breakfast and we were starving. The five of us duded were partying till 6 am the night before and with hardly any sleep we were starving! These bagel breakfast sandwiches hit the spot! We destroyed the food and made our way back to our AirBnB just down the block to sleep more. We were very thankful to Tompkins Bagels for filling our bellies.
Ordered an everything bagel with scallion cream cheese, untoasted. the bagels are top-notch...nice crust/exterior and firm chewy inside that is easy to bite through...there is nothing like the variety of flavors on the outside of an Everything bagel that gets punched up with some creamy scallion cream cheese! There’s a ton of seating here but be patient bc most times there's always a line. Always super friendly service. If bagels and cream cheese aren’t your thing, there are plenty of savory bagel sandwich options from the grill as well as baked items.
Far and away the best bagels in NYC! The customer service is also amazing! We had a minor glitch with a long-distance delivery order and the Catering Director AKA The Silver Fox personally took such good care of me. He re-sent the corrected order just to make sure I got my fav egg-everything bagels. Love this place sooooo much!!! Wouldn’t go anywhere else
Given its popularity, expect a long line, but it tends to move pretty quickly! Tompkins has a huge variety of bagel and cream cheese flavors as well as other various sandwiches. I ordered the French toast bagel with espresso cream cheese. Not the fluffiest bagel I’ve had in New York, but the flavor was still great. Was very intrigued by all their other options, will definitely be back the next time I’m in the city!
We’re lucky that there’s no queue as we got here on a weekday. I got the usual everything bagel with lox, cream cheese and capers and I find that the bagel was a bit chewy, but soft compared to the other shop we went to - which is better since it’s easier to bite into it. The guy who took our orders was incredibly friendly, nice, and helpful! And the girl on the cash register was also nice and she complimented my hair lol I don’t really expect people to be friendly and nice. The bare minimum is to be professional and not be rude - but they were extra nice.
Tompkins Square Bagel used to be the bagel spot we frequented as part of our Sunday routine. Their bagels are phenomenal, with a diverse range of cream cheese options! We loved trying out their seasonal bagels, and our favorites included the Za’atar bagel and, of course, their classic Lox bagels. On Sunday mornings, you might encounter a long line that sometimes stretches out of the store, but don’t worry—the line moves quickly! The service is efficient, and the staff is always friendly and ready to help. Although the seating areas are typically closed off on Sundays, we usually took our bagels to enjoy in Tompkins Square Park. One fun detail I discovered later is that on slower days, you can actually ask to sample some of their cream cheeses, just like you would at an ice cream shop! Inside the shop, you’ll find charming paintings for sale, adding to the cozy atmosphere. This location has limited seating, but I believe the other location has a larger dining area. I truly miss and love Tompkins Square Bagels as part of our Sunday routine :(
Love this place and they have very special bagels. They also have beyond meat and other vegan / vegetarian and dairy free options. They also have plain, sesame and everything gluten free bagels. I ordered the gf bagel and they asked me about toasting (depending on sensitivity you need to tell them how careful they need to be). I told them toasting with other stuff is not ok - they then can put the stuff in the microwave and on like extra clean papers. I did not have a reaction but the environment is the same. They also changed gloves to prepare my bagel etc (see receipt). The wait was 10-15 minutes for sure. Also, there are some seats but not for more than 4 people and there are maybe 5 tables in the back. The park is right outside so enjoying your bagel there is nice too.
Really good NYC bagels, a bit chewy and soft inside while being crispy when toasted. Their spread selection is fantastic, I want to try so many more of them so I will have to be back. Their chai lattes are not good, so id stick to bagels (and maybe a coffee) if you come here. Their lox spread is a bit pink and doesnt have as many salmon pieces as some others, but it had nice flavor. The Kaitlin sandwich was delish. They have tons of options for both sandwiches and spreads, and of course for the bagel type itself. Its not the cheapest, but it has a lot of variety and great bagels so i give it 5 stars. While my absolute favorite bagel itself would probably be Apollo, Tompkins Square is where I would keep coming back for the variety of quality options
WORTH THE VIRAL HYPE! Specifically came here for an easy breakfast and glad I did. While there usually can be a line out the door they are very efficient at getting people in and out. Helpful tip: try to see if you can find menu info online before you come because they asked for my order before I even came in lol There is limited seating, but there is a small park down the street where you can sit and relax on a bench to eat. The bagels are soft and delicious, tons of different options and different flavors of cream cheese i’ve never seen before. Would def come again!
Just had an unforgettable morning at Tompkins Bagel in NYC! The moment I stepped in, I was greeted by the warm aroma of freshly baked bagels. Each bite was a burst of authentic New York flavor - perfectly crispy outside, chewy inside, and topped just right. The cozy atmosphere and friendly staff made it a true NYC experience. Whether you’re a local or visiting, don’t miss out on this gem!
I recently visited Tomkins Square Bagels and it truly exceeded all my expectations. From the moment I walked in, the warm and inviting atmosphere made me feel right at home. The staff Gabriela and her coworker were incredibly attentive and friendly, ensuring every detail was perfect. The food was absolutely delicious, with fresh ingredients and bold flavors that left me wanting more. Each dish was beautifully presented, showcasing the chef’s creativity and passion. It’s a place I would highly recommend to anyone looking for a memorable dining experience. They need a raise!
Definitely the No.1 bagel spot! I visit here every time I’m in NYC. The dough is amazing, and the cream cheese and all the fillings are always delicious. The staff is also friendly. It has a nice atmosphere inside, but I definitely recommend eating outside in Tompkins Square Park — the vibe there is unbeatable.
A good selection of tofu-based vegan cream cheeses, and great-tasting bagels. Staff were friendly and fast, more than happy to run us through what options there were for vegans. We went with 2 everything bagels, one with tofu spinach and artichoke cream cheese and one with garlic tofu cream cheese. Both were tasty and filling, with just the right texture. Great spot for a quick vegan bagel!
Rating: 9.5/10 Date Last Visited: 11/9/2025 EDIT: I went back and tried two of the specials, the Triple Crown and something else. Both were amazing, also the same price as a SEC. Bumping this to a 5 star because of the Triple Crown. The dessert/sweet cream cheeses are also delicious. I ordered a SEC bagel with scallion cream cheese on an everything bagel ($14). The bagel was standard, it rivals other top bagel places in NYC. The bagel was good, I don’t have a lot of complaints. The reason why this isn’t a 5-star is because the price is a bit high for a regular bagel, considering the fact that the portion felt smaller than other bagels I’ve had around the city. A typical bagel sandwich should be around $10-12, and I believe that $14 is a bit high. The wait time is also really long since the line is long, but they expedited the system by taking people’s orders in line the moment they line up. However, the issue is that they take your order too early so if you change your mind, it’s too late since it’s already being made.
Great bagel shop with friendly fast service, a cosy interior, excellent selection, and delicious food. The options for cream cheese, bagels, lox, etc are incredible. I had a sesame bagel with chilli garlic cream cheese and the bagel had solid texture, but the crème cheese was incredible! Flavours came through, but the cream cheese base had an excellent blend of tang and salt. Gluten free bagels + other snacks and tofu based cream cheeses are available. Gluten free bagels are a +3$ charge but pretty good (for a gluten free bagel).
In this occasion I ordered for a whole whet bagel with cream cheese, nova, capers and lettuce. Definitely one of the best bagels on the city. What surprised me was they have an espresso cream cheese, has a coffee lover I couldn’t leave the place without trying it. Spoiler: was delicious 😋 The environment was excellent and the cashier very friendly. Hope try soon more of the menu.
We had a wonderful experience at Thompson Square Bagels in the East Village, and it’s definitely a place I’d be happy to return to. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere felt warm and welcoming, with a cozy, neighborhood feel that immediately puts you at ease. The service was friendly and relaxed, even though the place was quite busy when we arrived. There was a steady flow of customers, and while seating isn’t always guaranteed, the overall vibe remained pleasant and comfortable. 🙌🏻 The selection of bagels and spreads was very solid, offering something for everyone. Most importantly, the bagels themselves were incredibly fresh and absolutely delicious. They had great texture and flavor, clearly made with care and quality ingredients. The coffee was also excellent!!! And I love good coffee 😅 flavorful and well prepared. making it a perfect match for the bagels. Even with the crowd, the space felt lively in a positive way rather than overwhelming. It’s the kind of place that feels like a local favorite for a reason: simple, tasty, and consistently good. So!! Thompson Square Bagels offers great food, a friendly atmosphere, and a genuine neighborhood experience. We really enjoyed it and will definitely be coming back again.❤️❤️
Tried Tompkins Square Bagels for the first time today (Christmas Eve!), and I'm already hooked. The bagels are fresh, hand-rolled, and perfectly chewy—thick and doughy with that ideal kettle-boiled crust. What really blew me away was the insane variety: so many bagel flavors (French Toast, everything, sesame, and more) and endless house-made cream cheeses and spreads to choose from. I had a tough time deciding! Service was quick and friendly, even on a holiday—staff kept the line moving smoothly. And the prices? Surprisingly reasonable for NYC quality; great value without feeling overcharged. If you're in the East Village, this spot is a must. Already planning my next visit!
If you are even remotely serious about bagels, Tompkins Square Bagel is worth the hype and then some. We stopped in while visiting New York City, and it quickly became one of my favorite food moments of the trip. This is not a fully vegan shop, but the number of vegan options offered alongside the regular menu is genuinely impressive and makes it an ideal stop for mixed groups. The vegan cream cheese selection is outstanding. Sun-dried tomato, spinach artichoke, garlic herb, veggie, plain, scallion, and more. Every option was creamy, flavorful, and exactly what you want with a classic New York bagel. As a longtime vegan, having this many choices felt intentional and exciting. The bagels themselves are exactly what you hope for in NYC. Fresh, chewy, and perfectly balanced. It is rare to find a place that serves both vegan and non-vegan customers so thoughtfully, and Tompkins Square Bagel truly gets it. I loved it and cannot wait to go back. I may or may not have strongly encouraged them to consider opening a Raleigh location. Until then, I will happily make this a must-stop every time I am in New York City.
After many years in New York, I finally tried Tompkins Square Bagels, and it absolutely did not disappoint. Easily one of the best bagels I’ve had in the city so far. I kept it simple with a toasted salted bagel with butter, and it tasted incredibly fresh, perfectly chewy, and warm in all the right ways. My boyfriend got an everything bagel with three eggs, cheddar cheese, and bacon, and it was just as solid. Classic, no-frills, done right. Definitely living up to the hype. 🥯
great bagels but a little expensive especially if you put add ons. they had a ton of interesting cream cheese options, would go back just the try the other selections. bagels were nice, thick, and soft. i would recommend getting an interesting cream cheese flavour & your favorite bagel over getting the bagels with the smoked fish.
Indoor self-serve seating available. Service was friendly and efficient. I liked the fillings but not the bagels itself. The classic chicken salad bagel was light and refreshing. The lox and cream cheese bagel was alright, the amount of cream cheese was inconsistent. I wished the bagels were softer on the inside.
Absolutely delicious bagels 🥯😍 The croissant was beautifully flaky, but very dry. I've been pampered with polish croissants lately from Janina's, and nothing seems to compare. Other than that, these bagels are so divine. Pick your bagel, cream cheese, fillers, lettuce, tomato, cucumber, avocado... The french toast bagel is soft and sweet like french toast should be! The plain bagel is crispy on the outside with a soft textured inside. They are very filling!
It’s hard to believe this is a chain. The bagel was good, nothing to write home about. The cream cheese is awesome. Perfect savory profile for my tastes. What got me? The staff is so damn friendly and clearly they’re doing lots of things right with the line and ordering process. It’s not as stressful as many NY institutions, and super efficient. They write your order on a carbon copy sheet and then give us your order to give to the cashier. The cashier is friendly and upsells ya. They know what’s up. Place feels like a local second wave coffee shop with cute hand written lettering all about. It really sucks there’s nowhere to sit outside tho. I’m learning you gotta say toasted if you want your bagel toasted in nyc. I’m slightly let down by the texture of the bagel innards, but the crisp outer shell is intact. A generally good bagel - not as good as Ess-a-bagel but if this is in your neighborhood it’s a great day. Go get one. $4.50ish with cream cheese.
Been to Tompkins Square Bagels plenty of times but first time visiting this location. The line was so long and very humid inside. Glad they have a solid process in place where there’s staffs walking around taking people’s orders while in line. Got the Weezer on an everything bagel, lox with veggie cc on a pumpernickel bagel, and a plain bagel (for the pup). Lucked out and found a spot at the front to sit and eat. Really enjoyed the Weezer but the lox today didn’t taste that great. It does live up to the hype if you want some good bagels, but it is a bit time consuming to wait in line and then wait again for your order to be ready.
Tompkins Square Bagels is the go-to spot for fresh, delicious bagels with plenty of options to choose from. The ambiance is great, and the ingredients are top-notch, which really makes a difference. The service, though, could be better—it felt a bit slow and unorganized. The coffee was fine, nothing special, but the bagels more than make up for it. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area and craving a good bagel.
I love this place been going here since the day it opened but the workers could be a bit friendlier, every time I go in I say good morning and get no response I even tapped a girl who took my order and said before you take my order I said good morning morning and she just smiled, the guy at the register is also a bit rude snatching tickets from your hand and never had a smile, if the bagels weren’t so good I would stop going because of the rudeness you deal with.
Is it popular? Yes. Is it good? Pretty good. What keeps it from being perfect? The wait, and the overwhelming amount of options to choose from. I ordered the "koch" which is basically egg, bacon, scallion cream cheese and I got it on an everything bagel. There's no place to really eat, inside had a few tables but I'm the line really crowds it, and it seemed uncomfortable to sit there. If the weather is good, I would recommend taking your food to the park across the street.
on the hunt for a replacement for absolute bagel’s egg bagels - this is pretty good, it has a nice light crispy on the outside and at no moment did I feel the bagel was tough to chew. However, I think because the bagel is a little thicker (in height), there are more parts of the bagel that feels a little denser for my liking. Meaning, it should be around 90% soft inside and 10% dense outside, but it feels kinda 80% soft 20% dense. Maple bacon cc was flavourful either way I’ve come to accept that there’s no replacement for absolute bagels and will probably revisit if I have a bagel craving
Review is about dine-in experience of breakfast bagel at Avenue A establishment - maintenance is clean, colorful, distinctive, also offering clear sight to baking-boiling WiP. Only a confident house an be so open. Staff is cheerful with a sense of humor. Bedazzled by the myriad sandwich choices with alluring bynames, I strayed from intended purpose of sampling signature bagels in their barest character. Hope others do not get in similar mixup. Order taking was efficient. Even patient, as I flubbed over, and over, aimng to sample something offbeat. Somewhere in my mumble (and accent), request for add-on sundried tomatoes got translated to grilled tomatoes. Of course, my mistake was professionally repaired. Thanks. Double jalapeno (bagel & cream cheese) was spectacular. Everything bagel with sundried tomato cheese was, somehow, unremarkable. We liked that bagels were not overloaded with schmears. Coffee - strong & bold. Speciality order of no froth and hot milk came as lots of froth and lukewarm concoction, instead 🥳. Bagel size isn't as large as bragged in reviews. We know couple of places - not far - where they are as big, if not bigger. Indoor seating is for 8 along the alley leading to colorfully painted backyard; and another dozen on rustic, counter-height stools. This is essentially a takeout joint, with branded bagel wrappings but no provision for plates etc. to facilitate dine-in. Laudable: Mini canvasses adorn cavern-end walls and add to aesthetic appeal on one hand and double-up as art gallery for a local artist. 👏🏼 The downer: Midway through our breakfast, a store worker opened the backyard door wide, to let in late fall draft. 🥶 We were prevented from closing the door because in-store bakers needed fresh air and respite from heat build-up in their section of store. The chill immediately hit my immuno-compromised wife. While we'll deal with effects of this incidental apathy over next few days, hope owners are more mindful of getting the ventilation system repaired - for the sake of staff, in approaching winter.
Good place but they’re a little full of themselves. They have me a paper bag which ripped within 2 mins. They gave me an extra bagel and made it seem like they did me a solid. It’s getting expensive for the extra toppings. That’s my main complaint.
The place had a line looping inside and down the block. It moves fast though. You can tell these people know what they’re doing, but I think I messed up my own order. I ordered the Leo (lox, eggs and caramelized onions). I assumed it would come toasted by default, but nope, you have to request it. The everything bagel with the eggs and lox was much too salty, and it was mostly egg inside. I regret not trying one of their amazing-looking cream cheeses. My friend ordered a bagel with lox cream cheese and he seemed content. The iced coffee on the other hand was smooth and yummy.
I ordered an everything bagel with scallion cream cheese and it was delicious. The service was a bit dry and ordering had a strange flow. We also ordered a banana nut muffin which was truly horrendous. Gluey texture and artificial banana flavor. For $4.50, I would recommend staying far away from the muffins on offer. The vibes are cozy though and there’s plenty of seating.
I have always enjoyed this place! and always come oy of my way from Westchester County to visit however the mexican or hispanic guy made me feel unwelcomed. He was very rude when I added extra bagels not toasted to my order and when I ordered the Latte he rolled his eyes and gave me attitude. The tall man with gray hair was also rude when I had asked him if my iced latte was made with almond milk and vanilla syrup he said I do not know. This place is unorganized and cold. If you cannot take constructive criticism then you should not be an owner at all. Learn how to take it and treat your customers well. It sounds like you are deflecting saying my comment is fake. But the fake one seems to be YOU and how you run this reviews/business. I was not insulting you but the way one of your employees treated me that sunday morning. And now you’ve lost a client.
Liked the Egg Bagel. French Toast didn’t feel really French Toast. Birthday cake was nice. Expresso has the good caffeine taste, but it was too sweet, might as well be called a cappuccino. They recommended The Stella. Too dry for me, not so good. The Stutto on the other hand was really great. Cannot say no to chipotle chicken salad.
The kitchen in this place is absolute chaos. There was a guy making bagels with shoulder length black hair with no hairnet. No surprise, when we were queuing we noticed a long black hair on top of the chicken cutlets in the fridge counter. I had already ordered the bagel with the chicken cutlets so I told the woman on the checkout that I wanted to cancel the order due to the hair and her response was ‘there’s no hair at all’ despite the fact three people in the line behind us also pointed it out. She also said she couldn’t cancel our order as she had started making it already. 15 minutes later there was still no sign of our bagels, they clearly hadn’t started making them at all. Why not just let me cancel the order then? She was rude & the whole place is just chaos. It feels as though they care less about food hygiene and more about just getting out as many bagels as possible, but the food and customer service is suffering as a result. Time to go back to basics and focus on the product you’re selling.
I love this place but they keep getting my order wrong! It’s now almost every time I go Edit to respond to the below: The issue is that I don’t realise until (gasp) I’m home - the egg will be an omelette instead of over-medium or the bagel will be toasted or it will be the wrong cream cheese or bagel. I did write directly to you via email and didn’t get a response. This has been happening even when I come early to beat the crowd. I appreciate the policy and it’s good to know, but this has been happening often which is why I wrote the public review.
Edit: Maybe you should actually read the review before writing an irrelevant response…..There were no lox. not the first time this has happened. I ordered a plain bagel with lox + tomato. That’s $16 because lox are so expensive. The bagel without the lox (tomato+plain CC) would’ve been $6… I paid $16 to get lox. There were NO lox on the bagel. This has happened to me I kid you not, every time I get this order. I like this place so I gave benefit of the doubt the first few times (it’s busy in there sometimes). But today I was the ONLY person in there. Not a single other person ordering a bagel and I open it to find no lox, only cream cheese and tomato. I feel scammed. It’s starting to feel intentional the amount of times this has happened to me. Lox is the SECOND thing listed on the order how do you just miss that when there’s no other orders being made and no one in the restaurant? No more benefit of the doubt or being scammed. Literally draining my wallet to splurge and get lox to end up with this. Don’t go here unless you want to waste 20 bucks on watery coffee and a bagel with nothing on it! I want free lox for life.
While the bagels were good I was completely disgusted at the cashier when he proceeded to tell his coworkers infront of customers how he could tell the customer before me was trans. “You can always tell because of the …” After also purposely calling them “bro” and “sir” while clearly presenting as a female. Intentionally embarrassing them and proceeding to talk to his coworkers about it. Will take my business elsewhere from now on.
I never thought I’d be writing a review about straws , but it’s annoying as this point. I come here everyday, and love the food, but continuously waste money on the coffee. After about 2 or 3 sips, the plastic straws completely break down. I told the manager a month or so back about this, but they still have not been changed back to the paper straws or another alternative. It’s gotten to the point where I may no longer come back as I can’t even drink the coffee that I purchase without having to take the lid off and drink it like it’s hot coffee. Again, it feels weird to write a review to complain about straws, but they are completely unusable. I have submitted pictures below.
