Laojie Hotpot is an absolute gem for hotpot lovers. The broth is rich and flavorful, with plenty of options ranging from classic spicy to nourishing herbal.

Your standard hot pot experience, which is not at all bad. The atmosphere is great. Service is fine, but nothing exceptional. Food was great, make sure to get lots of beef.

This is where you go to get your moneys worth for hot pot. Unlimited all you can eat. There’s also barbecue too. Quality is good not the very best. Overall, you will leave with your tummy full. The best part is the dessert. Mango pudding. Staff is quick and friendly, attentive, and efficient. There is a wait on the weekends.. evening time. Parking can be difficult. they have two party rooms with a minimum of $250, I believe? Good experience every time and our go-to hot pot place.

This place is amazing. I’ve been going to this place for a very long time and the food is absolutely delicious. They have a lot of options to pick from. The hot pot is spot on. The temperature of the soup is amazing and the food in it cooks fast, I also like when they refill your pot if the is a little out. The bbq is a great option if you are first time trying Korean bbq, I would recommend getting their Cheesy Corn and their special stake. Their sauces are amazing especially the Korean sauce. And when you are done with your food they will bring out a jello type dessert that is delicious and it’s a good cool temperature. A nice refresher for the hot food you had in your mouth.

The Ambiance is beautiful. I love the mix of neon lights, trees, and thatch. It’s like stepping into a punk styled future. I loved the fake chickens out front. My absolute favorite thing was the speed that the food came.

This place was wonderful! The waiters are super talented and our food came out quickly. Everything you’d expect at a hotpot.

Great all you can eat hot pot place at a reasonable price. The sour plum juice was very expensive at $10 a bottle and wasn't as full of plum flavor as I liked.

J

Laojie never disappoints, quality meat cuts and a lot of seafood options, which I love!! Good amounts of soup base to choose from, my favorite is their tomato and herbal chicken. But my favorite is definitely their complementary mango pudding desserts at the end of your meal!! Recently tried their new desserts too, a shave ice - cooling for the summer. It’s not bad. Very spacious area and love their interiors, very ancient like.

Celebrating my son 21st Birthday- I love the individual pots and unlimited protein portions. It’s delicious and fresh. I will definitely return to try the unlimited BBQ.

My absolute favorite hotpot location. They’re always very attentive and fast with serving and they refill the soup base pretty quick. The meats taste absolutely amazing and they have my favorite fish balls. Me and my friends go here at least twice every couple months absolutely worth it. Prices are a little bit high but it’s expected. Would definitely reccomend !

Kids loved this mango slushie with boba. Great way to end our hot pot meal! Service here is great.

Always passed by this place and finally decided to check it out today. The interior is very clean with some cool cultural decor. Seating is spacious and there was plenty of table space. Me and the person I went with decided to just get bbq and everything was pretty good. We really loved the confit minced garlic that’s on the side. We pretty much ate everything with it.

Excellent service; my pot was always refilled with more hot water. The fatty beef, beef tongue and sliced lamb were the best. My fav are the sliced taro, fish paste batter and korean rice cakes. Our server was attentive and ready for us to order more. The decor was old street just like its name. Can't wait to try the BBQ side. A neighbor gem at a very reasonable price. Great fun for anyone!

J

This is their newer location, the original is just off 8th Ave in Brooklyn. Parking on or near 8th Ave is never easy so I thought I'd try this location. The bad news is that parking is just as bad, the good news is the food is just as amazing as at the original location. This remains the best hot pot in Brooklyn, possibly even in all of New York City! Their sauce bar is included and it has great choices. If you like hot pot, you must go to LaoJie! I only get the spices soup base. It is so good I have yet to try the others.

Love Laojie for AYCE hotpot! My husband and I go to the 8th avenue location all the time when we lived in the area. Recently tried this new location and we had a great experience. The quality of food was amazing and I was surprised to see the huge clam on the menu. Service was always the best. Everyone was friendly, attention to details and welcoming. Amazing interior. A variety of different sauces to choose from and dessert was free. A slight increase on the price but not bad at all considering how bad the inflation currently is. We would drive 40min to eat here. Highly recommend!!!

Hot pot and BBQ both are not bad! There always hard to find some food everyone likes. Everyone has different taste m, why I gave 5 stars because their ingredients are really fresh and employees are super friendly.

The hotpot experience was exceptional! The restaurant offered a variety of broths, ranging from mild to spicy, catering to all taste preferences. The ingredients were fresh and plentiful, including high-quality meats, seafood, and a wide array of vegetables. The self-serve sauce station was a highlight, allowing for personalized flavor combinations. Service was efficient, with staff readily available to assist. The communal dining style encouraged conversation and made the meal both fun and interactive. Overall, it’s a great spot for group dining or even a unique date night experience!

My group did both Hotpot and BBQ. I came with my kids and they loved both. Food was good and service was excellent! The best part is the dessert! We’ve always loved their dessert and their new dessert is even better.

Quality AYCE hotpot for a decent price. They actually have unlimited crab here if you like eatting crab at hotpot which is surpising. Careful though, one order of crab is a lot. The lao jie pudding they give you for free at the end is very good. The fried man tou with condensed milk is also very good.

D

I had an amazing experience at this hot pot spot! From the moment we walked in, the staff was super welcoming and attentive. The ingredients were fresh, the broth was flavorful, and the selection was huge — meats, seafood, veggies, noodles, sauces — everything you could want. I especially appreciated the self-serve sauce bar, which let me customize everything to my taste. The ambiance was cozy but modern, and even during peak hours, service was quick and efficient. Prices were fair for the quality and portions. Whether you’re a hot pot regular or trying it for the first time, this place delivers. I’ll definitely be coming back with friends!

We love this hotpot place. Affordable AYCE hotpot! The meat, seafood, and veggies were very fresh! Especially love the shrimp, clam, and squid, fresh and sweet! We also love the shrimp paste and tong ho (Chrysanthemum). Desserts and Plum juice were all delicious! Customer service was on point. The waitress was sweet and friendly and attentive. Definitely coming back!

I visited their original restaurant on 53rd Street & 8th Ave few times. Came to this 86th Street new restaurant the first time. AYCE hotpot. Price is not expensive. Food and service are both good. No wonder business is so good even during weekday evening.

Wonderful AYCE hot pot experience — looking forward to coming back soon! I've been to quite a few hot pot restaurants in the city, and I can confidently say that this place is one of the best that I've been to. The price is very reasonable, the servers are very attentive, and the quality of the food is quite good (especially for the price). I was also very happy with the well-maintained condiments station — one of my biggest concerns with other places is often the mess that inevitably arises in the area, but this location kept all of the sauces very organized and clean.

Went to have hotpot last night at the newly opened Laojie on 86th St. As far as I know, they don’t take reservations but we put our names down on the waitlist (it was Saturday night). Table was ready in about 1hr45min but we were only 10min walk away so that was fine to wait at home and they called us to let us know to come. Have to say the hotpot experience was great, nice tasting broths, very fresh ingredients and excellent wait staff! The staff were friendly, quick and attentive, constantly moving around the tables removing empty/used plates. Great hotpot eating experience and will definitely return! Will make this my new favourite hotpot spot I think!

Very good hot pot place, it’s warm and cozy in the back. The server takes your order for soup base, and then you are free to order on the tablet all the ingredients you want.

Thank you for making our birthday celebration a delicious one! The waiters and waitresses were very professional. The first boil did take time to get up to temperature. The food was fresh. I would say by the third order you should start slowing down. The amount of food leftover just creeps up on you.... Of course if you're a teenager to late 20's, you can scarf down many more plates of meat but we found ourselves overwhelmed after the 3rd order. We will definitely be back for the next birthday!

So happy there’s finally a hotpot place on 86street. I didn’t want to review Bc it’s crowded as it is, but they deserve a five star review. The staff is excellent and very attentive. Always buzzing around and for some reason, have the hearing of a helicopter mom. Anyways, food was super fresh and the clams are huge! They have a good cold drink selection too so stop being your own yaya teas bc it’s rude. Make sure you bring Vax card, earplugs and definitely make reservations as they are quite busy even on weeks days.

J

Had a nice cozy dinner here with my family. We had 9 people and booked a private room. There was a minimum required spending amount for the room, I think it was $228, which we easily met with our base ayce and a couple additional pitchers of drinks. Can't go wrong with this location! Food was fresh and you get lots of it.

J

Absolutely great! So yummy and so much selection. I came here right after I had half a leftover burger (not mine). I wasn’t sure who was going to make it because we had 2 PEOPLE CANCEL! Either way, the people that did come were all wonderful people to dine with. My roommate was recording a TikTok the entire time and honestly she was on her phone a little too much. Also my other friend wouldn’t stop taking damn photos. The other person was just fine. The absolute highlight of the night was the fried buns with condensed milk that were included and the mango pudding dessert at the end up of night! The wonderful environment and quality of food really beats out other AYCE hot pot places. I almost projectile vomited on the table because I had too many mango puddings. It really hurts stil but I really liked the food. I have a lot of fond memories here because this is where I met my partner’s parents for the first time. There was a creepy crawler in the watercress but it was okay. It was replaced and everything else was very clean and delicious.

N

I love this place so much. For the price per person and the amount of options there are is absolutely crazy. They have a sauce bar with so many options to choose from and many pages of selections of meats, veggies, noodles, seafood, etc. My sister and I LOVED the fried buns. They were so crispy and had condensed milk drizzled on top of it. The fuzhou fish balls were delicious as well. I got the bone collar soup broth (i believe that’s the name) and it was so nice and refreshing since i didn’t want anything too heavy.

Delicious all you can eat hot pot place with affordable price! Services were great, servers come up to us multiple time to check if we want to order more food to eat and brought us dessert at the end Ingredients are all come with decent quality, and it’s only 30 per person! Will definitely come back again! Note it doesn’t accept Amex

Good service and food for the price. Will definitely go again. There's 3 location in New York, 2 in brooklyn and 1 in chinatown manhattan. The chinatown location is more expensive understandable because of rent. This is a must try when you're in the mood for some hot pot.

I love this place! The service is fast and attentive. My kids love the food and especially their usual dessert. They just recently added this strawberry shaved ice dessert and my kids love this shaved ice in addition to their usual dessert! So yummy!

Service was exceptional. Waiters constantly took the fat accumulation out of the soup broths, which I found to be really nice and caring. Quality of food was great as well and fresh. Whenever I would pick up a menu, the waiters would notice right away and ask me what I would like to order. Didn’t need to call for their help. My table was constantly clean since the waiters would offer me newer plates and more napkins frequently. Me and my party was constantly cared for. Loved the great selection of food. Overall, I would definitely recommend this place.

Girlfriend and I come here for NYE and the food was amazing. The waiter we had was extremely attentive (Wish I caught his name but sadly hadn't, but he was really great). We usually go to the Bowery location, but honestly this one was even better in my opinion. It's worth it to get the hotpot and the BBQ. Glad we decided to come here for New Years Eve.

Amazing hotpot restaurant! Service was great and all the food orders arrived super quick. Broth flavoring was almost perfect! I ordered the spicy broth and they were really REALLY generous with the peppercorn which overpowered everything else a tiny bit. Overall a must try spot and I would come back to try out the other flavors

Great place, came here with a few friends and it happened to be one of their birthdays a few days prior. They gave him his meal free despite it being two days later and I believe their policy is +- 2 or 3 days before or after your birthday, you get your meal free, though you have to come with 3 other people per one birthday person. Definitely coming back in the future for my other friends birthdays. Other than that, service was good, only thing you might want to note is that you can only send in your order once every 8 minutes though that wasn't really an issue for my group. Our waiter did ask if our birthday member wanted them to play the birthday song over on the big screen which I thought was a plus and they gave him an extra dessert which was fried sweet bread.

The best hotpot in Brooklyn in my opinion! Food is fresh for the most part, and the broth is very good as well. However, try to make reservations if you can (I don't believe you can make a reservation if it's only a party of 2 but I could be wrong), because the wait can be VERY long. I once walked in around 7pm and was told the wait was 2 hours....not sure if this is everyday though

This shop decoration is very retro, very unique, food Volkswagen, There are so few seafood choices, and i'm a seafood lover,The service is good, the atmosphere 😂 , too loud, music too loud, should put some retro music to let people enjoy the food ~ This is the first time to experience the 86th street lao jie ~

We finally found a time to try this newly opened hot pot restaurant. The soup base and food variety was good, so was food quality. The staff was friendly and attentive. They also offered free dessert at the end of our meal. The only complaint is that the hot and spicy soup base is not so spicy to our taste, and they don’t have fresh chopped green or red chili available to make our own spicy dipping sauce.

A
Abigail Wong

All the food was fresh and delicious. When you first arrive, they take your jackets and put them in a plastic bag. After they’ll ask you what soup base you want. I called ahead to ask if they have bbq anymore, and they told us they didn’t do bbq for a couple months already. The meat was fresh, and everything was nice. Even though it was hard to get the waiter and there were a few flies, we had a great experience. I would visit again! The drinks were fresh and good too. I hope I eat more next time.

Came as a party of 7 on a Saturday night. It was packed, per usual. We made a reservation for 7pm and still had to wait ~35 min for an available table! We got seated at a large table upstairs. Everyone here gets individual pots, however if you're a party 6+, the extra folks are likely sharing a pot with someone. We order our hotpot items off iPads + beverages are an additional charge. Servers are prompt and clear finished plates efficiently. Their dessert was a yummy mango jelly pudding. If it's someone's birthday, that person eats free, as long as there's a party of 4+. If there are 2 bday people, the party must be 8+. Standard + reliable hotpot spot in the neighborhood that's always packed for a reason. Great AYCE price with plenty of standard hotpot options. Lots of neighborhood regulars!

AYCE hot pot/BBQ with a decent selection. We had the hotpot only for $30. The food is pretty fresh and good. It is well priced for what you can get. There is plenty of street parking. Will be back to try their BBQ one day!

We really enjoyed our visit to this BBQ place. The atmosphere was great, and the food was excellent — we especially liked the way the grilling was done right in front of us, which made the experience even more interesting. However, one thing we didn’t enjoy as much was being told there was a 2-hour limit for staying, and then being asked to leave, even though there were still plenty of free tables. That part felt a bit unnecessary and took away from the otherwise pleasant experience.

Has a great theme or decor. 4 stars because parking can be a hassle, so definitely make a reservation. But it’s worth it. Fresh, all-you-can-eat goodness at affordable prices. Plus, the cozy vibe with karaoke in the background? Perfect for a fun night out. Bonus: they’ve got both hot pot and BBQ options.

We visited this restaurant with the concept of AYCE hot pot and BBQ grill, recommended by a friend. We tried the AYCE Hot Pot for $29.98 per person. The service overall was good; our server was attentive despite being quite busy attending to other tables, and the food arrived promptly. We were seated at the last table next to the station with plates and utensils. As servers frequently passed by to grab items, we requested a spoon from a lady with short hair, possibly in her 40s, who was a bit rude. She tossed the spoon onto the table with a noise that startled me while I was eating. There was no apology, just a casual delivery with an attitude like, 'Here is the spoon, and I don't care.' We observed that she did not smile throughout her service at other tables, and fortunately, she was not our assigned server. Later, we needed to ask another server, a man, for two more spoons. He did the same, placing them on the table with a similar noise. Unfortunately, we noticed that one of the spoons was dirty, leading us to wonder if they might need to improve their utensil handling practices. Since I have not ask my server for utensils, I'm not sure if she possesses the same skills. The Bone Cylinder Soup Base we ordered was excellent, and almost everything on the menu, especially the fatty beef, was delightful. However, the disappointment came from the shrimp and clams, which were not as fresh. I hope they can offer other kinds of desserts. Even when we are pretty full, there is always room for dessert. Our server suggested something like pudding, but I'm not quite sure. The taste was rated 2/5 Despite the minor service issues, we highly recommend trying this place for its delicious offerings.

Prior to the new year, this place was 5 stars all day every day (esp. with the dude who normally takes care of us). They recently moved to a tablet based ordering system which is a bit cumbersome. We consistently were missing things that we ordered, and the things that did come out were smaller portions than usual. Probably some sort of effort to reduce food sent out to patrons during the 90 minute limit. Could've been an outlier which is why the 3 star, riding the coattails of the goodwill that was garnered up until 2025.

The sanitation here is questionable. I had found a piece of staples in my food and when I told the worker about it, he told the manager and decided to switch out my entire hot pot. Staples was stuck in my teeth and is a real health hazard. Other than that, the other times I’ve came it was pretty decent. Atmosphere and service is nice.

Service is really good. Parking is hard. Lucky if u find a spot One thing. Meat should be defrosted before grilling. I ordered the tongue. And after grilling it, the meat was so tough.

Edit: I have to update my previous review, as our experience has changed drastically. We are (were?) regulars at this place and absolutely loved it, but the last two experiences were less than stellar. During our visit a few weeks ago, our waiter kept on messing up our order and bringing wrong items. Yesterday, we didn't feel welcome at all and the waiters pretty much ignored us. Firstly, no one told us that the kitchen is closing (about an hour before the restaurant did) and so when we wanted to order more protein, we were told that the kitchen is closed. We wanted to get more sauce, but the condiment station was also closed 40 minutes before the restaurant. No one bothered to give us a heads up so we could plan our meal accordingly. The pot of soup was boiling over and I asked the only waiter I could catch to lower the heat a little, but he lowered it all the way down and the pot was barely simmering and not cooking properly. We only received two small plates instead of the usual stack, so the food was all piled up. Seems like the place is getting disorganized and the waiters are not properly trained or just don't care anymore. At this point, I wouldn't recommend this place for a relaxing meal. Original: Really awesome hot pot and BBQ place in a relaxing atmosphere and with great customer service. For the hot pot we paid about $28 per person, which was all you can eat option. There are separate options for the BBQ and BBQ + hot pot. Everything was very fresh, delicious, and beautifully served! We were also able to get two separate soup bases: herbal and creamy bone, and both were great. For the drinks, they have very delicious ice green teas with fruit flavors, which I highly recommend. Overall, an absolute gem of a place that's perfect for intimate dining or large group gathering alike.

This was at the 86th St location and it was honestly the worst experience I’ve had. Everything was fine at first, but then a server moved my belongings without saying anything. I had placed my things next to the connected booth table, and one of the servers just picked them up and moved them back to my seat without letting me know. I understand if they needed the space, but at least communicate. Later, we noticed that one of the lamb meat platters looked greenish. We told them about it, and they just took it away with no apology. After that, no one checked on us or came back to take our order. The service the whole time was horrible. Very disappointing experience. Please do better.

The place is not the same anymore. Bit shocked. Menu selections are smaller. Staff were not attentive as they used to be. Drinks took long time to arrive and I don’t think we even got some of the food we had ordered. Was a disappointment being in the neighborhood so long and couldn’t keep up the good reputation. And pls clean the place, like need a deep clean in every corner. Not mentioning that leaking bathroom 🤢

What happened to the service? This was a complete different experience we have had previously. We had to walk over to the staff to order drinks, empty plates left on our table on multiple pass, wasn’t cleared till we asked . Normally this wouldn’t be an issue but our table was already small for the 6 of us . At one point one of the staff spilled raw meat juice on one of us as he cleared away the plates and just walked away . We had to get our own napkins. Never once did they come over to clean out our pot of the floating soup scum’s . I am not sure if it’s under staffing but the entire experience was just disappointing.

I visited for the first time and mentioned it to the staff, asking for some guidance on how to order. Unfortunately, I didn’t receive the warm or helpful welcome I was hoping for — I expected a bit more initiative from the team to assist first-time guests. We ordered our food: the broth was completely unsalted, which was disappointing. The meat was okay, and the shrimp were very tasty. Everything else was more or less as expected. Near the end of the meal, I was told that I could get sauces from a special station — but at that point, it was too late to enjoy them. When I asked to take the leftovers home, they told me it would cost extra, which felt unreasonable. Overall, I left feeling quite dissatisfied with the service and experience. Sadly, I wouldn’t recommend it for first-time visitors.

I have been here previously many times, but now....the wait time are just ridiculous. Always full reservations, the leaving your phone number for waiting list are upto the host/manager. Just forget about this place.

Very bad service. They say they close at 12:30, but I went at 10:00 and they weren't serving me, saying they were closed. In short, they close at 8:00 pm. Very bad service.

Two years ago, I left a glowing review. Since that time, I’ve faced what I can only perceive to be racism. The first time I went, my wife, my son, and I were seated reluctantly, but immediately. Food was OK. Not the best, but not the worst. Subsequent times, I was turned away. They pushed Asian families to the front of the line without reservations, and we were just left with nothing. After two separate attempts, including a party of seven that could have meant $$$$ in food and drinks for this establishment, I gave up trying to patronize them. General policy for restaurants is you shouldn’t wear your racism on your sleeve.

We used to like this place and came here every year to celebrate family memeber's birthday. During recent visit the food was OK until we saw a roach crawling on the BBQ plate. Bathroom floor was wet around the toilet. Not enough service with rude waitstaff demanding for more tips because we received birthday discount. They overcharged the sales tax based on the original price instead of the discounted price. I do not recommend this place anymore.

The food was pretty good but the staff was extremely rude. They talk in Chinese to insult the customers and laugh at them from less than five feet away when they think the customers cannot understand Chinese. Truly shameful behavior!

I highly recommend you guys should training your employees again! I usually go to 8ave location and order 2 only hot pot & 2 hot pot + BBQ, yesterday was my first time to go to 86st location, and that was my first time heard I couldn’t get BBQ when everyone on my team don’t get BBQ! The waiter was answered me super rude when I asked why I can’t do this in here, he keeps saying “ you only can order BBQ when everyone on this table order BBQ”; I feel forced to do this, and there is no written proof that we must not do this

Dined in with my group of friends for dinner last night and the host/cashier with the vest looks aggravated. When we asked to order drinks, she just turned away with her poker face as if she’s annoyed. When our drinks arrived, she placed our drinks near the corner of the table and left. There’s no sense of basic respect nor communication involved.

I come here every now and then and am very familiar with this restaurant but recently the business practices are very disgusting to a long time customer. I came here with a friend on an empty day and ordered a very small amount of food for the HOTPOT, not only once i went to pay was the register lady rude, but after i paid forced me to pay more saying “oh tips are actually required” right as i was about to leave through the door with no gratuity charge mentioned anywhere on the check just an optional tip. Then when i tipped charged me 3x my tip and wouldn’t budge until i told her a million times i wanted to tip lower. The whole thing they’re doing where they invent all these new rules out of thin air is ridiculous as in the last 6 months this place is unrecognizable. definitely not coming back with this horrible service

If you aren’t Chinese don’t go here ! You will be treated like a dog !! They gave us dirty plates and dirty utensils. The food wasn’t even good and the lady rushed us out rudely while we were still trying to eat. I recommend don’t come here ! Save your money and time.
