Shake Shack Grand Central gets high marks for tasty burgers, especially the Shack Stack and Carolina BBQ. Many appreciate the quick service, though it can get crowded. Some find the fries average and service inconsistent. A few reviewers mention long wait times.

It’s honestly a bit crowded… but the burgers are still as excellent as ever, and the service is just perfect.. they even have time to be polite and friendly!
Food was good and hot. It’s a busy spot - a little hard to find seating, as should be expected. I loved that they texted me when the order was ready to pick up so I could go sit down while I waited.
The staff here are great, the woman cleaning the dining area when we visited yesterday was especially helpful and friendly, but the gentleman that took our order (people at the ordering terminals were taking their sweet time) was also great. The food is consistent and delicious. I look forward to visiting whenever I visit NYC!
My daughter was on a school trip out of province for the very first time She was trying to order her food and was having difficulty. Ray was a phenomenal employee who helped my daughter with her order. He was friendly, helpful and kind. I was on the phone trying to help her and I couldn’t have been more thankful for his kindness to a random customer! Thanks again Ray, you rock! I hope that random act of kindness comes back to you and the Shake Shack company knows how lucky they are to have an employee representing their company the way that you do!!
Not easy serving the mob of dinner rush crowd at grand central station filled with families, tourists, commuters in a hurry and random people rushing everywhere. Amidst the chaos, I have been here a few times over the years (try to avoid touristy areas generally coz of the crowds) but had time and very grateful and a shout-out to Nicole of this shake shack - this cashier looked out for everyone and kept her positivity yet efficiency and cool. Ridiculous crowd but the staff and team I noticed handled it like clockwork with good team spirit- everyone seemed to have each other’s back. Had to write to compliment this beauty I noticed amidst the chaos of Grand Central’s nonstop crowds. Kudos to the team and staff tonight. To comment on the food I bring my tourist friends to Shake Shack all the time. A little high on the price point but food is always good. Grateful for the recommendation to try the Holiday special chocolate mocha shake amidst the shroom burger & regular fries on the regular menu Food never disappoints 👍🏻
Great staff, tasty food and even though the place can be very crowded sometimes, it’s still a nice place to eat.
I’m writing this review because I’ve never had a burger like the one I just had in the food hall in grand central terminal at the corner hightop by the stairs. It was really good and beautiful. Maybe a lil too much salt, but I liked it!
I recently visited this Shake Shack, which is located in Manhattan’s Grand Central Terminal, for a quick bite to eat while on the move in New York City with a couple of friends. This location is convenient, but can get quite busy (particularly on busier commuter days within the terminal). Despite the quite busy atmosphere when we visited, the team members at this location managed to get our order correct + got our order out to us in a timely manner. This is not a bad spot for a midday lunch break if you’re in the area!!
Really awesome. It is the only food place worth visiting in Grand Central station. The only issue is not necessary their fault, but the stench of the vagrants in and around the station is very off-putting. Nonetheless Shake Shack is Awesome!! The customer service is second to none!!!
Housed within the Lower Level Dining Concourse adjacent to the famed “Whispering Gallery" in the historic, iconic and opulent Grand Central Terminal (GCT) of New York City, the GCT Shake Shack serves up its beloved classics including burgers, flat-top dogs, frozen custard, beer, wine and more. What I particularly like about their burger is that they use non-GMO potato roll made by legendary Pennsylvania company Martin's, making it taste super yummy and flavorsome!
Still the best place to eat burgers. Simple but tasty patty in soft buns. Shake shack does it best. In and out burger may come close but this restaurant still has an edge. McDonald's is a distance further in quality. Once I read that it's patty is refrigerated but never frozen. It explained the juicy taste. I am not sure if it is still the same now.
I love the burger and fries at the Shake Shack because they are simply delicious. Even though the location at Grand Central Station is not the the food chain's first restaurant, it is a product of a NYC original. The self order kiosks are convenient and easy to use to customize your meal, even down to selecting the ingredients on my burger. We had a late night meal here on a Thursday. Still, it was pretty busy past 10 at night, but then this is at Grand Central Station. Another cool feature is that the restaurant's tables are made from recycled wood from old New York bowling alleys. Tech friendly, socially conscience, amazing location, and great food is a winning formula in my book.
It was getting late in our trip to NYC and one of our last stops was grand central. After exploring we found an area with tons of restaurants and booths and I heard locals rave about shake shack so we decided to try it. Ended up getting the cookies and cream with malt. Very smooth and creamy shake. I had to stop at another location at the Newark Airport and their shakes weren't as good as this place
If you’re looking for a spot to eat before your plans in NYC, despite how busy it may look, they have machines to order if you prefer ordering that way. Despite that it may seem there are no seats available fortunately we were able to find a table and our food took about 10 mins and they do have someone staffed to walking around, wiping down tables, and super friendly!!
Very good place, I just got myself a single patty cheeseburger and it was delicious. The smash patties were thick and juice, rare for smash patties. The buns were so buttery and the cheese just gave it a nice salty finishing touch. It's was very filling for one single patty burger and I felt like it was worth the money.
Very crowded even past 11 pm but great food and cleanliness!
As a visitor from Scotland we’ve not had Shake Shack before but we’re familiar with the offerings from BK and McDonalds. We were pleasantly surprised at how good the burgers and fries were. Perfectly seasoned fries, plump and moist patties and fresh salad. Ample seating at 10pm but I reckon it’d be pretty limited at busier times. Simple ordering system but no option to enter non-US phone numbers at the order kiosk, but that doesn’t really matter if you’re keeping close by while waiting for your order since they call your name anyway. As far as fast food goes it was very good.
It's quite a long line and the servers aren't the friendliest but they make a good burger. Their brioche bun made all the difference. Remember to always order the double patty because their patty are very tasty and they're honestly pretty small. The fries aren't as good as the one in madison square park, but the cheese sauce saved it.
We stopped at the Shake Shack in Grand Central Station for a “wing it” dinner, mostly as a crime of convenience. The place was understandably busy around dinner time, but to their credit, the line moved quickly and we only waited about 15 minutes after placing our order. The food itself was just okay. Flavor-wise, everything was fine—nothing remarkable, nothing disappointing—but by the time we walked the two blocks back to our hotel, the burgers had suffered. The buns were completely soaked, making the sandwiches messy and a bit of a chore to eat. We were honestly glad to be back in the privacy of our room, where we could tackle them without worrying about making a scene. Overall, it got the job done for a quick, convenient dinner, but it wasn’t anything to call home about. If you’re in a rush and need something fast near Grand Central, it’s serviceable—but definitely not a destination meal.
My fiancé and I decided to eat at Shake Shack today. It was my first time trying it. I had heard it was expensive but had good burgers. But everywhere we go is expensive, so today was the day I had to try it. The chicken burger was delicious, with the sauce and avocado. I can't complain. I will try a different order next time. The Shake Shack terminal was crowded; they had chairs and tables, but we had to wait for people to finish so we could sit. But the environment was great. What can you do… it's NYC! 😅
Best damn burger around! Very tasty and not greasy! You will thoroughly enjoy this quick bite. It's Grand Central, it's loud, it's busy. Have your travel partner grab a couple of seats while you wait for your order.
Long wait and not the warmest service, but the burger is totally worth it. The brioche bun really elevates the flavor, and the double patty is a must since the patties are small but delicious. Fries are average on their own, though the cheese sauce makes them enjoyable.
My husband and I stopped by for a quick meal, we weren’t expecting anything special but surprisingly the food was pretty good. However the service was outstanding, the young lady that served us was extra lovely, I couldn’t carry all of my food to our table so she offered to help me. I found out her name is China. So China if you read this, you should be proud, you’re a beautiful person. Thank you for making our Shake Shack experience even better 🦋
Nearly missed my train by 48 seconds… I don’t understand how it takes 30 mins to make bacon cheese fries and a berry lemonade… I couldn’t get an answer as to why everyone else who ordered after me got their order faster than I stood in line. I want my money back I will call the store until I do Edit - returned 10/11 around 1 pm- FRANKIE helped me out thank you so much and made it better than I expected oh my god . I take back what I said. I appreciate this a lot and shows the company does train and care about the customers now it got 5 STARS
This was my first experience with Shake Shack. Not only was the food hot fresh and yummy, the employee that took the time to explain some of the menu items went above and beyond. She was on her way through the establishment and looked busy but still took the time to answer my questions. Thank you to Eliza at shake shack for a great experience and a great way to end our trip to NYC. We WILL be back.
I recently tried the burger at this place and was pleasantly surprised by the flavourful patty and the soft, delicious bun. The quality of the ingredients definitely stood out. However, I found their beer selection to be limited, mostly consisting of pricy options from Brooklyn Brewery. In the future, I might stick to ordering their tasty burgers and opt to enjoy a beer elsewhere. Overall, it's a great spot if you're looking for a satisfying burger,
Building is great but needs more seating for people eating. Food was good and reasonably priced. Recommend double burger if you are hungry. Shake was good at $6.50, compared to 17.50 at Ellen's Stardust.
Moderately good food. Not the best service. Inside Grand Central, so it's butifull.
Tasty burger, hotdog is a little behind in quality but good too. Quite busy since it’s in grand central but the system is organized and we placed our orders very quickly. Pick up is not as fast, perhaps because they are more used to preparing burger orders. Some people who ordered behind us got their burgers first while we waited quite a while for our items to come out. Price is a little high for the size of their items but the taste certainly makes up for it.
Delicious food, paid for in lengthy wait times. Friendly personnel. Remote vibrating devices issued for pick-up, though sometimes the devices do not work well. Prices fair — but factor in long waits due to invariably large crowds! The restaurant’s bathroom is Grand Central Dining Concourse’s bathroom. Free wi-fi.
This Shake Shack is located in a food court at the Grand Central Station. Therefore, they quickly serving foods. Maybe, the menu is a little bit different with other Shake Shack stores. Tastes of burgers are totally the same. Also, this store is not so crowded because of in the food court. It’s a convenient place. However, staff members are little bit rough.
Located inside of grand central terminal in the lower level at the food concourse. I highly recommend their burgers, the patties are really tasty. They have limited seating and the line can get really long. Be prepared and hasty when claiming tables and chairs! The staff are friendly and they do give you a buzzer once you’ve ordered.
If you know, you know. Shake shack speaks for itself. Very high quality fast food burgers. I added fried onions to the shake shack burger and it gave it a great touch. The cheddar fries could be a little more crispy. The oreo shake was delicious but i recommend it be more cold. Its located in the food court in the Grand Central Station. Given how many people walk in and out and how much in a hurry they are, shake shack serves justice there.
Shake Shack at Grand Central is the unofficial canteen of the terminal. You’re hungry, you’re moving, and you don’t have time to decode a farm-to-table manifesto. The burger? Nothing groundbreaking, but when you’re juggling a suitcase, a deadline, and a craving, or a few mouths several stations away, it’s the edible equivalent of a deep exhale. It may not be the quietest corner of the concourse, but it’s one of the few places where chaos tastes this good.
I tried their seasonal Carolina BBQ Burger with fried pickles. I didn’t have high hope about the fried pickles, but it was actually very nice. The outer batter was soo crunchy, and the pickle slice inside was still very juicy. The whole burger was very flavorful and moist. I liked it quite a bit.
I went in to Grand Central Terminal one day to find a place to eat lunch. There are manny choices on the lower level. I finally decided to eat at Shake Shack. It is a very busy place at lunch. You can order on one of the tablets or directly from a register. They call your name when the order s ready to pick up. My order took over 10 minutes. Then it was tough to find a nice place to sit and eat. That took another 5 minutes. Today I just had a basic burger. It was juicy and most delicious.
The food was hot and fresh. I just didn't care for the sauce. The man who helped us was very nice, polite, and you can tell he was a hard worker. There was a couple of what I thought to see as homeless, but after watching them, they were perfectly fine and were scamming people while begging. The man with a cane does not need it . He showed us that that day. The business would be better if you didn't have them following you and hanging around there and make you feel unsafe.
Ordered takeout - ran to catch the train. Missing the fries, although the truffle sauce was in there. Bummer! Edit: Customer Service contacted me and refunded the cost of the missing fries. Good recovery! Added back a service star
You can place an order by utilizing a Shake Shack kiosk or from the cashier. You can customize your order on the kiosk, too. After you place your order, go to the order pickup area and wait for them to call your name. It can be really busy so listen to your name. Once your order is ready, inspect it before you go to catch your train. I inspected my order luckily before I left, it was an incorrect order. So inspect your order before you leave.
It's not as good as the original, and used to have much longer lines, but still good burgers (smoke shack) if you get the double, and consistent burgers here. You can order in the line and pickup at the window - some seating shared and for the restaurant. Lower floor food court of Grand Central.
Tried Shake Shack at Grand Central and while the food was quite good – as expected from the brand – the overall experience left much to be desired. The staff weren’t particularly friendly or helpful, and the atmosphere didn’t feel especially welcoming. One major downside was that they refused to accept cash, which I find quite frustrating, especially in a place as busy and iconic as Grand Central. Not everyone wants to or can pay by card, and this policy felt both inconvenient and unnecessary. Good food, but the poor service and cashless-only policy really let the place down.
The burgers were great but the automated system which vibrates when your food is ready did not work for us. We waited 15 min only to found out our burgers were ready and got cold. After a short discussion we got new ones. Had to wait another ten minutes though... The guy at the cashier forgot the drinks we ordered... at least we didn’t pay for them.
Visited Shake Shack during my recent visit to New York. Being a vegetarian, was excited to see a Veggie burger on the menu. Decided to order one but the environment there was very chaotic. Did not know what to do or where to order. Ultimately placed the order but the person at the counter wasn't very friendly. Even the way they served hurriedly in paper packets with the bun and the patty moving in separate direction did not make us enjoy the burger. I am sure you will find better places for burgers in New York.
Honestly, I am the most disappointed I have been in a while. Coming to New York again after so long and going to one of my favourite fast food places to get what I usually get just to realize how smaller and tasteless it now is was devastating. The bacon cheese fries were painful to eat, not enjoyable whatsoever. The burger was OK, and Id say a reasonable price for it.
I have never been a fan of Shake Shack. The fries are limp. The cheese has no flavor. The bacon has no salt. The meat is not meaty. The whole meal looks like white castle. The only good thing was the soda. Uncomfortable seating area. Pretty much self serve and the self order tablet asks if you want to leave a tip. Overall overhyped and underwhelming and OVERPRICED!!!
Bought 2 double burgers. But, was disappointed when I tasted it. It lacks seasoning, the meat was hard to chew with some tendons or ligaments in it and looked like it was just reheated with irregular edges and dried meat. This is my 1st time to experience this with SS. I usually enjoy the moist and tender meat in Madison Park. But, this one was a complete turn off. The cashier was nice but the burger was very mediocre.
The slowest fast food service, I don't think I'll ever order if I don't have at least 45 minutes to wait. I only ordered fries and a Lemonade, expecting it to be ready in 10 minutes, 15 tops. I had 20 minutes to wait for the train, so I thought I was in good shape. But 20 minutes went by, and I didn't even receive the text that the food was ready. I had to leave it without picking up, which is really rough.
I hadn't even sat down for 5 minutes when an old man came to me and yelled at me saying that if I didn't order here, I would have to leave. ( Employee who worked at 9 am)He's a service employee, not my boss. Please improve your service. I like this brand of burgers and eat them often, but I don't want to buy them if the service is like this.
The food was good as usual, it's always tasty, and fresh I tried many branches, London, Orlando, NYC .... but this place... cashier watching her colleagues work by staying on her phone and ignoring customers, you say : "Hi" she didn't answer .... Idk that sounds crazy, this place CS is close to mcdonald’s but the price is shake shack They forgot a sandwich in the order and act like we are bothering them, idk we are giving you money which is making you have a job maybe we should stop eating at this place
I'm vegan and was looking for a quick meal in Grand Central and there are limited options, which is not the fault of Shake Shack. What IS the fault of Shake Shack was getting my order wrong TWICE, worse the second time than the first, and when I got it the third time, pickles had been removed for no particular reason. If I have to order the "veggie" shack with no cheese, no shack sauce, no bun (instead a lettuce wrap that was an unnecessary amount of lettuce), and no crispy onions, the least you guys could do is leave me my beloved pickles. Also getting rid of the vegan milk shakes you guys had was a massive mistake. They were only alright but improved the vegan Shake Shack dining experience greatly. PLEASE just put a vegan burger on the menu as something easier to order, you already have a gluten free bun option, just get a vegan one too I swear to God they're not that hard to come by.
Didn’t apply the promo when I applied. Took them another 10 minutes, so my burgers were soggy and cold by the time I ate it.
The people working here are consistently incompetent. Not worth the frustration for meh food.
The entire checkout process via the tablet is frustrating and unpleasant. You’re asked for a verification code, yet the staff is too lazy to verify it—and they don’t even seem to know the code themselves.
On my lunch break I ordered a DOUBLE Smoke Shack meal with sauce on the side. After waiting for a long while for my food (people after me received their food first), my order came without bacon. I sent it back and it came back with the sauce on it and only one single patty. I didnt realize it until I made it back to my job. I definitely went back and returned it. Wasted my whole lunch break (1 hr) .... if possible I would have given this location a zero. They should pay more attention to orders and respect people's time.
Guests are required to use a terminal to order their meals, no problem there. However, when you go to pay for the meal you’re prompted to add a gratuity and 10% is automatically preselected. The guest must unselect the tip. Not only am I not tipping for fast food, I’m not doing it when I do the work of ordering, and absolutely not before I receive my order. Pay your employees and stop squeezing your clientele. And for the “tippable” employees that could be seen, they looked miserable.
