Lovely spot for a walk (with lots of cloth if you coming in winter). Beautiful views of the New York City scape. Come in the evening to see every lit up or come just before sunset to see the beautiful orange glow envelope the city. The Pepsi is a must see so make sure you walk along the river path and not miss it.
Gantry Plaza State Park is a hidden gem in the midst of the urban landscape of New York City, and it has quickly become my go-to retreat since moving here from Oregon. Nestled along the East River, this park offers a perfect blend of natural beauty and city charm. The park's most striking feature is its breathtaking views of the Manhattan skyline. Whether I'm visiting during the day to admire the city's iconic landmarks or at night to soak in the dazzling lights, the vista never fails to impress. Beyond its picturesque scenery, Gantry Plaza is impeccably maintained, with clean pathways, lush greenery, and well-kept facilities. It's evident that the staff take great pride in preserving this urban oasis for visitors to enjoy. What I love most about Gantry Plaza is its versatility. Whether I'm looking for a peaceful spot to read a book, a scenic backdrop for a romantic date, or simply a place to clear my mind and find inspiration, the park never disappoints. There's something inherently calming about being surrounded by nature while still immersed in the energy of the city. Gantry Plaza State Park is a true hidden gem that offers respite from the hustle and bustle of city life. Whether you're a local looking for a peaceful escape or a visitor seeking a glimpse of New York's natural beauty, this park is a must-visit destination.
Beautiful River views. Many benches facing the water. Two fenced dog park . Very clean and well kept park. Variety of restaurants across the street. On South side of the park, you wil find places for coffee and casual snacks, bathrooms and beautiful views to the empire state Building.
This park is absolutely great!!! And it's greatness does not merely lay in the park itself. It's greatest asset is of course the view on the Manhattan skyline. Every day different, never boring. It is no wonder that this park has turned into a hotspot for photoshoots, wedding proposals and film locations. It's easy to get there with the subway (Vernon Boulevard on the 7 line) but even easier via the ferry (Hunters point South and Long Island City are both in the park).
Great park! This park with provide you with some of the most beautiful skyline views! Also it’s well maintained, very spacious, and a perfect place to have a picnic, hang out with friends, take your children to, or take a stroll. Also the famous Pepsi-cola sign is here! I’ve definitely experienced some of the best sunsets from this park... a must-see if you venture out to LIC or live in the area. Just a heads up - It DOES get crowded the the weekends!
I wish I knew this place existed when I was younger. The park gets kind of crowded, that's just a testament to how great this place is. There are benches, fields, hills and lots of shade. There's a dog park, cafe, playground and walkways out towards the water. I love coming here with friends and to take pictures. The whole park is just beautiful and mostly well taken care of. I can't recommend this place enough, just leave it as clean as you found it.
Gantry Plaza State Park is a fantastic place to explore in NYC. If you’re looking for a quiet spot, with privacy, a hangout spot, or a spot to relax away from home, this is where you should go. The park has public restrooms and benches near the river side, also it’s only a ten minute walk from the station. Gantry has everything you need to take some time off the urban city. Additionally, the park offers amazing views of Manhattan from a close distance, without a doubt I’ll come back.
A perfect place to visit with family and kids. Lots to do and different kind of food available. You can take a ferry for $2.75 from here to wall street with multiple stops. Highly recommended. A very nice view of manhattan. Hudson river and open green space. On 14th july you can come here to watch macy’s fireworks as this place is center stage. But plan ahead for parking as streets will be closed and the place will be jam packed.
I’ve lived in NYC my entire life and never been here. Granted the park in its current state is relatively new. That said, this is a must on a beautiful sunny day. The park was beautifully designed and landscaped. Being on the East River with the NYC skyline in clear site is simply amazing. Plenty of nearby eateries (brick and mortar and trucks alike).
My favorite park in the summer and winter! We actually have a walking group an we literally walk here every week in the winter and I personally walk her every day in the summer too! Got me through some tough word day and tough covid days too
I went here on the 20th Anniversary of 9/11 because I haven't actually seen the 9/11 tribute ever in real life until now and I wanted to since I googled where I'd be able to see a good view of the city and the lights itself. In loving memory to those who had lost their lives because of 9/11 and during it. However, I had also never seen this view from the city in a place like this and it was astonishing, I was here with friends and generally these will probably be the greatest memories I'd had so far. I also got to see the coca cola sign that's very popular.
Gantry Park is an incredible place to unwind, especially in the evening. The breathtaking view of Manhattan’s skyline, illuminated with glittering lights, creates an unforgettable atmosphere. The park is well-maintained, offering a peaceful escape with scenic walkways, lush greenery, and plenty of seating to relax and take in the view. Whether you’re looking for a quiet spot to enjoy the sunset or a perfect backdrop for photos, Gantry Park never disappoints. Highly recommended for anyone looking to experience the beauty of New York City from a serene vantage point!
My first visit of this state park and I was smitten by the experience. It is on par with best NYC parks like Brooklyn Bridge park, Central Park, Riverside Park South or Prospect Park. Architectural firm of Thomas Balsley was involved in the park’s original design (they also did Riverside South). Integration of older industrial elements (gantries) as well as Pepsi Cola sign looks quite organic here. Combination of Manhattan skyline across East River, new LIC skyscrapers and creative park design elements (piers, benches, art installations) make for a memorable experience. Several subway lines link Manhattan with LIC, I’ve made a loop by arriving via E line from Manhattan and got back on 7.
Such a beautiful spot. There’s a doggy area, kids area, an area with tables and bench seating to grab a bite if needed, restrooms and you can grab some food there as well. Can also take the ferry over to Manhattan. The views are amazing. Public Parking is very limited around there, there are parking garages that you can pay and park.
Beautiful park and great palace for long walk by east side river View of Manhattan skyline is amazing Clean and walkable Can get Nyc ferry to manhattan at hunters point as well Loved walking there not crowded on weekdays dont know about weekend it kight be busy Close to court square station
No other view from Queens can get better than this one, this is a very big, spacious and well cared for park. There is a little of bit of everything happening here, whether you want to take a nice walk, have a picnic, take your dog to the doggie park, play volleyball at the sand courts, enjoy the divine view or take your kids to the playground (there are two) you will find something for you and your loved ones. Parking can be extremely challenging around here so be patient and prepared. There are tons of food trucks around plus they also have a small food court towards near the bathrooms. Don’t forget to place all trash inside the trash cans or take it with you this park deserves our care and attention.
Gorgeous waterfront green space. Nice row of restaurants behind it and very well kept. It's always a pleasure to come by on a week day and get quiet time overlooking a gorgeous sky line. Definitely recommend for anyone who wants to take some nice pictures. Also, for some reason Google is suggesting there are tickets needed. This is not true, entry to the plaza is free.
Beautiful park with a great view of midtown Manhattan! For those who want to take nice photos, for families who want to play with their kids, for people who want to go for a picnic for everyone! Go, relax, enjoy! Of course Pepsi Cola sign is the landmark of this park. You can also take the ferry from this location. It will take you out to 34th str in Manhattan or somewhere in Astoria.
This park is awesome! It's got everything you need to relax and have a good time. There's chairs, beaches, seats, tables, fields, a playground, and even water! It's perfect for kids, adults, and families. And the views are amazing! You can see all of Manhattan from here. It's so chill, you can just come here and relax and get some fresh air.
Its one of my favorite places in New York. This park offers so many different activities. The round lawn by the food area is amazing with all the people working out or just chillin with friends and/or family. It has amazing vibe and offers one of the best views of Manhattan and East River bridges.
Gantry Plaza State Park: A Vibrant Oasis by the East River Nestled along the picturesque coast of the East River, Gantry Plaza State Park in Long Island City is an absolute gem that never fails to impress. This place was teeming with life and buzzing with a delightful array of activities, making it a perfect destination for nature enthusiasts, families, and city dwellers looking to unwind. The park features basketball and volleyball courts, inviting visitors to engage in friendly games and sports activities. It's wonderful to see people of all ages and backgrounds coming together to enjoy these facilities, creating a sense of community and camaraderie. One of the park's highlights is undoubtedly the iconic gantries that once served as industrial infrastructure. These massive steel structures have been beautifully preserved and transformed into a captivating visual centerpiece. They provide a glimpse into the park's rich history while adding a touch of architectural grandeur. Countless photo opportunities await, as visitors can capture stunning shots of the gantries against the backdrop of the river and the city skyline. Loved Loved Loved this place! Such a wonderful place of country "peace" in the city. Great view of the city. Tranquility of the water hitting the rocks! Nice restroom! And a great soft padded play area for the children so you aren't worried about them falling and getting hurt. You can relax!
Such nice views of the manhattan skyline. I got many photo ops after sunset. After seeing the sun go down and the lights go on you just cant help but take so many pictures. Didn't see that orange yellow sunset i wanted to see but nonetheless a great day to go anyways. I think coming here at anytime of the day is good too. There are also many benches and places to sit. Looks dog friendly saw many dogs walking there owners. Saw only 2 water fountains that the water doesn't look good to drink, too white and not clear enough.
For NYC this was a nice day out . Pretty crowded in some areas like the playground. But a nice wide open area to walk and view the city . There was a green area for folks to play ball or exercise the day we went there was a production with dancers in the park. A overall family place .A park for everyone. Food trucks , picnic tables, sunning chairs. We looked for a free hammock but all were occupied. Restrooms were available.
This park offers breathtaking views of the Manhattan skyline—especially at sunset. The park is incredibly well-maintained, with clean walkways, plenty of seating areas, and beautifully landscaped gardens. Highly recommend it for couples, families, or even a solo trip with a coffee and a good book.
Great place to go on a nice day to just sit and enjoy the weather. Perfect date stop, to walk along the boardwalk and talk. There are an abundant number of food trucks parked outside the park, ranging from Mexican food to ice cream. It's a great spot to catch up with friends or even have a nice picnic with your family. If you're ever in the Hunts Point/L.I.C area of Queens, it's a must.
Great place to chill Gantry Plaza State Park is a 12-acre riverside oasis that boasts spectacular views of the midtown Manhattan skyline, including the Empire State Building and the United Nations. Enjoy a relaxing stroll along the park's four piers or through the park's manicured gardens and unique mist fountain. Along the way take a moment to admire the rugged beauty of the park's centerpieces - restored gantries. These industrial monuments were once used to load and unload rail car floats and barges; today they are striking reminders of our waterfront's past. With the city skyline as a backdrop and the gantries as a stage, the park's plaza is a wonderful place to enjoy a spring or summer concert. Recreational facilities include basketball courts, playgrounds, handball courts, and a fishing pier with its own cleaning table.
My favorite spot in the city, with phenomenal views of midtown in a stretch of beautifully manicured promenade with plenty of sunny and shaded benches and loungers. With a wide variety of different use public spaces, people come here to walk, picnic, sunbathe, eat, play beach volleyball, take the ferry, play soccer, fish, and generally hang out under the metropolitan backdrop across the river. Close by Vernon Blvd, there is also plenty of great dining situated nearby!
A Peaceful Escape I recently visited Gantry Park Plaza hoping to catch a beautiful sunset, but unfortunately, the weather was gloomy. Despite the lack of a vibrant sunset, my visit was still a pleasant experience. This park offers a welcome break from the hustle and bustle of New York City life. It's a great place to unwind and enjoy a more relaxed atmosphere.
What a view!!! I was recommended by some work colleagues to go check out this spot...and I was not disappointed. Access to ferry, restaurants, and a beutiful boardwalk! Best time to visit is sunrise, sunset or after nightfall....the twinkle of the lights on the water is magical ✨️

Lots of places to sit and view the city skyline. Day or night, it doesn't matter. Come down for the views and take pics of the Pepsi sign that's lit red at night. Parking is hard to find though but after 6 it is a little more manageable but better to come by public transportation. Has a small playground as well as a few restaurants close by
Gantry Plaza State Park offers the best view of NYC. The park has everything you could want: stunning waterfront scenery, ample green spaces, and a variety of food trucks to satisfy any craving. The Manhattan views, the food trucks, the vibe is just what makes Gantry state park worth trying out! Families, kids, couples enjoying their time and kids playing around is just what I need in a busy city. It definitely has a very relaxed charm and so needed on a weekend. We spent an hour and will be going back!
(Long Island City, NY) We love coming to the park! The views are amazing! There are plenty of places to eat in the neighborhood and there’s a ton of food trucks if you want to go real casual. There are several upscale restaurants along Center Blvd with great food and great views. The ferry is here to get to Manhattan and Brooklyn and Astoria. There are soccer fields, playgrounds, basketball courts, outdoor concerts, dog parks, water sprinkler parks, running paths, sand volleyball, bike paths and everything you need to have fun!
It's very peaceful here. The field has synthetic grass, it's amazing how much love is around when you hear people playing games out there. There's a valley ball next with sand opposed to grass on the opposite side of the restaurant which is where the fairies bored and unload.. The food there is really good. It's on the expensive side but at least it tastes good.
This park is incredibly peaceful and offers plenty of things to do. There’s a playground for kids, a dog park, and sand volleyball courts—perfect for playing year-round, though especially fun in the summer. It’s also a very popular route for runners, and I can see why—it’s spacious, clean, and relaxing. From my point of view, it has some of the best views of the Manhattan skyline. The sunsets here are absolutely stunning and worth staying for. A perfect place to unwind, exercise, or just enjoy the scenery.
One of New York City’s Most Beautiful Hidden Gems Gantry Plaza State Park is an absolute treasure and one of the most stunning waterfront parks in New York City. The views of the Manhattan skyline—especially the UN building, Chrysler Building, and Midtown—are simply breathtaking and feel almost unreal, day or night. The park is impeccably maintained, peaceful, and thoughtfully designed, with beautiful walkways, manicured lawns, seating areas, and historic gantries that give the space real character. It’s perfect for a relaxing walk, photography, quiet reflection, or spending quality time with family and friends. What makes this park truly special is the balance it offers—calm and nature on one side, and the vibrant energy of Manhattan just across the water. It’s clean, safe, and welcoming, with a serene atmosphere that makes you forget you’re in the middle of a major city. Whether you’re a local or a visitor, Gantry Plaza State Park is a must-visit destination. A peaceful escape with world-class views—highly recommended. 📍 4-44 47th Rd, Long Island City, NY 11101
A beautiful urban oasis, easily accessible by public transport and walking - we come from Astoria, Queens by taking the N train to Queensboro plaza then walking the rest of the way through lovely Long Island City that has undergone amazing improvements for the better in the last 3 decades. There’s so much to do here in the park. You can sit down to look at the river and the stunning views across the water, go for a walk along the winding paths, watch people play beach volleyball or kids running around, laugh at the many dogs having a field day, take a ferry or have a picnic… the choice of having a beautifully peaceful time is yours!
This park is a must visit if you’re a native New Yorker or visiting. This is the top location for city and sunset views NYC. The park and waterfront has been finished beautifully and is always kept clean and smell free. The park also covers about half a mile of Long Island city’s gorgeous waterfront.
The park is on the river bank, and you have the skyline of New York City in front of you. You can appreciate some history of the city when seeing the heavy unloading machinery on the edge of the bank. Food festival is another attraction. Very nice casual place inside a busy, crowded urban city.
Located in the Hunters Point section of Long Island City, Queens, this 12‑acre riverside state park sits along the East River with sweeping views of Midtown Manhattan, including the Empire State Building and the United Nations headquarters. Opened in May 1998, the park was developed in stages. Its restored gantries—once used to load and unload freight rail cars—are a prominent feature and nod to the area's industrial past. The northern section was formerly a Pepsi bottling plant. The neon Pepsi‑Cola sign, dating back to 1939, was moved here in 2009 and is now a New York City landmark (since 2016). .
It is a beautiful place to walk / sit and enjoy the beautiful skyline view. Go on a cool day, and the vibe is just amazing. There are people walking their dogs, some are exercising, someone is playing music, you name it, and it's happening. It's such a scenic, happy place. Don't forget to take a picture with the Pepsi cola sign. We took a ferry to visit here, so I've no idea about parking
We took a relaxing stroll alongside the park’s four piers and gardens which has a unique mist fountain. The name of Gantry Plaza came about from the LIRR having a whole freight operation going with railcars and barges shipping goods between Queens and Manhattan. Huge loading bridges called gantries took cargo back and forth. It has the Pepsi sign that's now a landmark in the park. It’s a great place to enjoy a great time along the river!
Even on a gray, overcast day, Gantry Plaza State Park in Long Island City is a breath of fresh air. The dramatic skyline views of Manhattan take on a moody, cinematic quality when framed by low-hanging clouds, and the East River shimmers with a quiet, reflective beauty. The park is clean, well-maintained, and thoughtfully designed with ample seating, wide walking paths, and pockets of green space that invite peaceful moments. Even when the sun isn't shining.
Breathtaking views of the Manhattan skyline! Perfect spot for a picnic or sunset viewing. The park's waterfront location offers stunning views of the new york city, making it a must-visit for photography enthusiasts. Love the walking and biking paths along the waterfront! Great way to enjoy the outdoors and get some exercise. The park's playground and sports facilities are top-notch, making it an excellent spot for families. Kayaking and paddleboarding rentals are available, offering a unique perspective on the city. There are plenty of seating areas, restrooms, and food vendors make for a comfortable and enjoyable visit. The park's events and programming, such as outdoor concerts and movie screenings, are a great bonus. Highly recommend for a relaxing afternoon stroll. Great spot for a picnic, walk, or bike ride along the waterfront.
Beautiful and very peaceful. Amazing views of the Manhattan skyline. It's also not overly crowded and mostly locals walking their dogs or kids. The best time is late afternoon to early evening to wind down, enjoy the sunset reflecting off the East River and the buildings across. Or come for an early morning walk to have a calming start to your day. There are plenty of seats along the pathway to just take a few minutes to sit and breathe in the scenery. Perfect for a romantic stroll or a picnic with your family.
Serenity. This is a great place for mindful walking. The east river gives amazing sounds to walk by. The cityscape of manhattan looks stunning at day and night. The parks and landscaping, sitting arrangements are just great. One of must visit place in NY. There are many open siiting places. Good one for the picnic and just sway by east river walking.
Again one of the free spots to see the breathtaking Nyc skyline views. The park had a benches arranged to relax or you can set up your small picnic in the middle garden area. Pet friendly park and it has several food trucks in the surrounding area. Grab something and eat with a great views
Much of the crowd is by northern end. The bottom half of the park is largely empty, but still fairly nice. The pathways and park is very well maintained with many exploring the riverside scenery. The view from the Hunter point library is quite spectacular.
beautiful park with amazing views. very safe as i seen many police and park rangers. relaxing chairs. you can see many iconic building including the chrysler building and empire state. you can take a ferry as well for 4.50$. i took it to brooklyn bridge or the dumbo ferry port for even better views
This is a review of our visit on 07.04.23 This is a beautiful park with stunning view of the Manhattan skyline. We were on Pier 3 and went around 3:30 on Independence day, the park employees were giving wristbands which was promising anticipating the large crowd expected to watch the fireworks. However, the pier got overcrowded. People were sitting on picnic blankets while others were kicking and stepping, very poorly managed. Too many people.
