Woody's Cafe

Everything a neighborhood coffee shop should be. The folks that work here are friendly and there's a real sense of community with the regulars and locals that come in. Great pastries, great coffee (and they have an actual light roast!), free wifi for customers, really lovely seating inside. I like to go for a cup of tea while doing my laundry next door, or anytime I wake up too late to make breakfast at home. The world needs more places like this.

I go here every time I do laundry, and I love this place. Their coffee drinks are great, and their sandwiches, too. My favorite is the pastrami Reuben, it is nearly perfect :-) Their business seems really variable, so they often run out of certain types of bread, but they always do their best to get you what you want anyway.

Wow! Genuinely so so delicious. I went with a group of 5 students after hanging out at the lake. We were looking for a quick place to eat and get coffee, and Woody's Cafe was so so delicious. We all ordered the Cuban sandwich which was Sooooo GOOD!!! def not just ordinary "Cafe food." It was a full meal and it could've been two meals in one. The coffee is super high quality and the sizes are reasonable. I LOVE IT! If I lived in Oakland, I would come here everyday!!! The owner is also super kind and apparently is a descendant of the founder Woody! You'll be supporting an epic fam business. (I ate an entire half of the sandwich before I could take a photo. It was THAT good)

Firstly, I usually only leave reviews on Amazon purchases, not on Google. But I wanted to share my experience and to let others know what a great cafe Woody's was. It's so rare to encounter honest and sincere businesses these days. I found Woody's cafe only recently and have fallen in love with their friendly, kind customer service, a quiet, cozy, and unpretentious atmosphere, and, above all, delicious coffee and addictive sandwiches at the most reasonable prices. I started spending my mornings there to work on my computer when I visited Oakland. ( I live in Seattle and visit Oakland nearly every month for business.) On the morning of my departure to Seattle, I decided to order a couple of Paninis from Woody's to take to the Airport. I ordered a chicken salad sandwich and a Spicy Cuban on DoorDash to pick up on the way to the Airport. The payment was made online at that point. However, a few minutes after placing the order, Woody's called me to say they were out of Spicy Cuban and asked if I wanted something else. The only other sandwich I was interested in was the Tomato Mozzarella Panini. But it was a couple of dollars cheaper than Spicy Cuban. The employees had neither the ability to alter the initial online order nor to give me a refund without the owner's presence. And I didn't have time to deal with the DoorDash matter that morning. So I asked them to let the owner know about the mishap and to give me a $2 credit when I return to Oakland in the following months. I left my name and phone number with them. That evening, I received a sincere text message from the apologetic owner, Evan. He said he had given me a full refund for the Spicy Cuban that I couldn't get. Well, they gave me a Tomato Mozzarella instead, and I enjoyed it tremendously. So the full refund was really not necessary. But he gave me a full refund anyway for the inconvenience. Anyway, I can go on and on about how much I love this cafe, but I'd better stop. This hidden gem deserves 10 stars.

The employees here are always incredibly nice. Their food is affordable as well. Definitely a hidden gem in the neighborhood!

Chef /staff Evan suggested trying the Tomato Mozzarella and it was sooo tasty, light and filling.If Evan,had not been at the right spot at the right time, I would never had tried this delicious meal.Kudos Evan

Best cafe around! Coffee is great. The food is hella good…I got the bacon panini sandwich it was so delicious. My daughter is a picky eater but she loved her breakfast croissant with ham/cheese and the mango smoothie was so bomb!! Highly recommended

Hong Kong Tea Latte is the bomb. I love their bacon egg and cheese breakfast sandwich, the owner Robert is also an amazing story teller! Skip the hip cafe and go the the neighborhood spot, family owned small business!

A genuine local treasure and beloved by the community. Family owned and wonderful people with equally wonderful employees. The owners are very appreciated by the neighborhood as they give back and take good care of the area. The laundromat next door is convenient as well. Dorothy, Mary and the crew are like family. No-frills coffee, sandwiches, bagels and pastries. Really good food and coffee. Everyone loves Woody’s so come see why.

Fantastic Coffee, Delicious Sandwiches, and Friendly Service I recently visited Woody's Cafe (again), and it was an absolute delight! The oat milk latte was rich, smooth, and perfectly brewed (exactly what I carved for). I also tried one of breakfast crossiant, and it was fresh, flavorful ham, cheese and egg (you know how experience eggs are now). Beyond the great food and drinks, what really stood out was the friendly service. The staff was welcoming, attentive, and made me feel right at home. It's clear they take pride in what they do, and it makes all the difference. If you're looking for a cozy spot with excellent coffee, tasty food, and warm hospitality, I highly recommend Woody's cafe. I'll definitely be back, again. How's about you?

The absolute BEST Cafe/Laundromat around Lake Merritt. I have been coming here for over 7 years and it has only gotten better. You can tell that this family-owned business really cares about its customers and its community. Highly recommended.

I order at 9am online. When I went in 15 minutes later the woman said she didn’t “see me order” so I didn’t trip, I just waited. When I came back 10 minutes lates, she a complaining to me about how I ordered more that I didn’t pay for online but, how could I be at fault for YOUR online portal. Instead of just giving me what I ordered, she made things based off her own ego and I did not get what I ordered. I also ordered a hot chair latte because I can not drink cold drink but she made me a cold chai latte. Instead of giving me what I ordered, she gave me what she wanted because the business online portal is NOT UP TO DATE.
