Recensioni di Retro Junkie Walnut Creek
First time I have been to this new hotspot in Walnut Creek! Such a cool spot, my heart is so happy to have a really fun spot to go to in the neighborhood. The staff is really nice and the decor is unbelievable. I highly recommend you check it out especially if you like to dance. They have an incredible dance floor! :)
The vibe is like seeing your favorite bands of years ago but in a super small & intimate club! Always busy but not annoyingly so. Always room to have fun & very social atmosphere! I highly recommend!!!
This is one of the best places with live music in the East Bay! If you support live music and like to hang out, come on out and join the crowd at the Retro Junkie. They have some really cool bands playing every week all year around.
Its a cute little place. Went for Tuesday night salsa night. I did not go for the lesson but we went for after. Nice, airy, roomy(not too too crowded although busy). I love the fake lawn and huge tv out front. Just a nice fun place to go. Will go again.
Cool spot nice open area outside inside feels cool not too hot. Very funky vibes in a good way. Tuesday nights are salsa dance nights. Perfect if you’re looking for something to do on a Tuesday! Not sure about other days.
Salsa Night on Tuesdays with Rebecca is so much fun. Great instructor that takes it slow for you to learn the basic steps and she also has quite the sense of humor. The dance community there (review is for Tuesdays only) is lovely and the $8 Paloma specials hit the spot. $5 with RSVP before 10 pm or $10 with/ without RSVP after 10 pm.
One of the best night clubs in the bayarea. Great concerts and the decor is spot on from the 80's. Video games, pool table and good drinks. If you haven't been your missing out.
I really liked it despite the wait to get in and the odd dress code. The place was packed and the Tom Petty cover band kicked some serious ass. Good selection of actual beer and just an overall pleasurable experience. Definitely would come back.
This is my favorite spot to go in the Eastbay to hear music and have drinks. The quality of the bands is top notch. I always get great service and love the ambience there is nothing else comparable if you haven’t gone get your butt there!
Really dope spot outside the city, gives you all the trendiness and shows and fun of the city while staying in the east bay. I really like the celebration of 70s-80s vibe and rock and roll life style. Dance floor is def bigger than anywhere else in WC and live music is always a win. Overall best dancing/concert bar in the WC area.
Nice bar! They have events on certain days. Thursday is karaoke night and other days, sometimes live bands play cover/tribute songs. There's a small dance floor, large bar area, and the other part of the building has 2 pool tables and arcade games. There's a small parking lot in the front for about 20 cars and a larger parking lot in the back. There's also street parking nearby.
Love this place! The cover bands are so much fun and drinks are great, though would really like wine options. We saw Temptation (New Order) and Bloodflowers (Cure). Both fantastic. Looking forward to future shows.
went here with a few of my coworkers after work one day, and honestly, I found a spot i’d love to take friends too! The decorations are so vintage. I love the coin operated arcade machines and the vintage skateboards on the walls. The drinks were really good (Pretty in Pink being my personal favorite!) lastly, the karaoke was such a fun energy. The live band, and the crowd made everything fun. Definitely coming back!
Drinks are a little pricey but overall really fun venue. Definitely what you make of it. Seating is very limited inside, so you have to be willing to stand to watch the music, or dance. They get good artist in there. Intimate venue. We had a blast.
Funnest place, great music and vibe. I wish they were more places that focus on the '80s like this place
Great place for live music. Check the calendar to find a band type that you like. I like the old school rock and roll ! Hence the name... "Retro Junkie". Some shows sell out, so you have to go on the website and click through Eventbrite to get a ticket EARLY. Drinks are very pricey. They have pinball machines and pool tables. The bands play from 7:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. then it turns to hip hop and a whole different crowd shows up. It's all good 👍 👍😎
Awesome place! First time going this past Friday with a group of friends. Friendly environment, nice to be around people my age! Mid thirties and up, great live band, great drinks and food. A must go to place if you’ve never been.
This place was so much fun on Saturday night. We got there a bit later in the night. About 11 and missed the live show but the DJ had just started up. Great line and door management by the security guy on the door. Checked our IDs and politely informed us of a very short wait and let us know what the cover was before entering. 10 dollar cover on a Saturday night st least that night which was a bit unexpected for the area but once we got inside it was well worth the cover. Security was quick and quiet to respond to a handful of removals of guests before they escalated and they did it with great professionalism without making a scene and were placed very well around the bar and dance floor. The DJ that night was amazing mixing various songs from the 80s and 90s and today. Classic rock and pop over his own edm type beats and transitions putting an awesome dance spin on many classic songs. There was a slight technical difficulty with the sound for just a split second but he recovered quickly. Bar service was pretty quick and accurate. Very slight wait there but understandably so given the large crowd. And the crowd was a nice mix of young and old leaning a bit more on the older side.
You love great live rock and roll cover bands and Great 80s DJ music to dance, this is the place for you. The atmosphere is incredibly joyous! Security very friendly but attentive. Bartenders are very friendly and very quick with making your drinks. A very 80s look type of place. Enjoy💙
This place was super cool. In the back they had two pool tables, in the middle they had about 5 pinball machines, in the front they have some old school video games. Out front it was a great big seating area on AstroTurf with a stage and projection screen. We saw Fred barchetta they sounded awesome. Great bar!
Super fun bar. I am a 70s music nut and they have the best vibe for someone like me. They have a bunch of activities and shows during the week. Their food truck is to die for, since they rotate from time to time. Their arcade games are fun and the pool tables are well located. I had a great time and will continue to go!
Ryan, the Manager, is absolutely amazing and goes above and beyond for his customers. Very nice guy and professional. He runs a great place with stellar employees who care. Drinks are great, atmosphere is fantastic. Extremely fun place and my favorite bar to go to. I'm definitely a returning customer as well as my friend. Thanks Ryan and to the staff!
Love this place! Just discovered it and will definitely be back again. I recommend if you are going on a Friday night to get there by 7ish because the tables can fill up. Also that’s when the food truck gets there so you wanna wait in line when it opens or else you might be stuck in a long line. Cover charge is reasonable and you can save a few bucks by buying it online. The band was great and the after party inside was a blast. There’s also some games and pool tables for those to use and listen to music
Retro Junkie is the funnest chillest hippest spot in Walnut Creek. The crowd is mixed and everyone is having a good ole funky ole time. Retro Junkie has that dive bar look and vibe without that dive bar dank stank smell and feel. Highlight of this place are the live cover bands, they really get you in the mood to party, Plus the wait and bar staff are super duper friendly. Their calendar is full of exciting events and I’m definitely coming back!
So much fun. Band was great, DJ took 80s songs and turned them into 21st century dance music. Very impressed. Great, lively, friendly crowd as well. At times I felt like I was at a wedding. Drinks a tad expensive, but not surprised - all like that now.
I would give this place 10 out of 5 stars if I could. The staff was accommodating & nice. The setting, decoration, and theme is the BEST spot in walnut creek and yes I've been to most all the bars. I recommend this bar especially to millennials and younger but I know EVERYONE will have a good time at retro junkie.
I didn't get to go because of my health and also I don't think I should be in a bar since I don't drink plus one shot of 80 proof would kill me before they could get help because I have pancreas failure.
In the Bay? rally up your crew, set your destination to Retro Junkie and pile into an Uber. This place has good vibes, loaded drinks, funky decor and groups of raw talent covering your favorite 80’s bands. Food trucks with decent eats nearby. Good times! At least what I can remember….
Cool spot to get a drink, play some games and dance..bartenders were friendly, prompt and attentive
Fun spot for live music, drinks, and bar games. The night we came in, there was an Abba cover band. They were fantastic and we had so much fun singing along. We didn't eat any food here, so I'm unable to comment on that. I would definitely go back!
We didn’t get any food we so not sure if they offered food I was there for line dancing awesome time with friends highly recommend It’s hard to get good old fashioned any where else but the bartender killed it 🥰🥰
Nice place to go and listen to like music, older crowd scene, 80s music
Fun place, great Salsa singer/DJ/small band. Reasonable cover charge, nice environment, lots of fun!
I live in the area and usually come out on average once a month. There are lots of different types of shows, my favorite being the disco, 80s, and classic rock nights. There is a great taco truck that sells the most delicious steak and birria tacos ever. As a woman I always feel safe and comfortable here knowing there are plenty of security and workers always around to help if ever needed. I'll be celebrating my Birthday here in March and cannot wait! If you like live music, or live near by, definitely check it out!
Went for salsa/ bachata class and it was great. If you want to learn this is the place. The Instructor walks you through basics and then lots of practice with partners. I Will be back
I have been to retro junkie several times for the Super Bowl. It was one of the best experiences and all of Walnut creek with their massive Jumbotron and party and DJ. I’ve also been there for Halloween where they do really cool festive events and everyone dresses up. Richard junkie isn’t on the main strip of bars and restaurants, but it is a place to go to for more of a destination on events that they hold and it is always busy there on weekends.
Been here about 4 times and honestly the tribute bands have all been quite impressive & fun. We’ve seen tribute bands to The Smiths, Nirvana, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, De Peche Mode, Alice In Chains here. We also have noticed that the audience here are generally unusually friendly. We’ve seen a few regulars while here & folks are open to chat, vibe in the music, really fun which is a welcome change from some unwelcoming “ too cool” crowds in other joints. Parking was easy in the back, drink prices are reasonable, there are places to sit & chill and some cool video & pinball games too. When patio is open there’s been food trucks - this last visit they didn’t have any -but did allow us to DoorDash our own food. We had lots of Palomas & beers while listening to live music - great time!
Fun place to hang out. Lots of security which is good. Music band was great but the sound system was terrible. The lead singer lost the microphone sound and stopped singing till they fixed the issue but still not clear sound. I didn’t have any food so I can’t say much about it. Drinks were a bit pricy. Parking is always an issue unless you arrive much early.
This place is a spot that you can come too and just be you. They will make what ever drink you choose and how ever you ask for it in my book now that is an establishment that I want to come too I love to explore new drinks and new places so when my friends did a performance here it ended up being a great one so yes I will definitely recommend Retro Junkie to everyone that asks to we're to go to in Walnut Creek
Great bands and fun environment. Only one issue, the drinks were watered down for sure! The mixed drinks were not good…
Manager let me and my girlfriend in for free really nice lady. Had no idea what to expect it was a random pick for the evening. Place is cool and had a dj outside and game's to play. Fair warning we each ordered 1 drink each and it was $36 so don't go there broke like we did as it is pretty expensive. Also we could not find a smoking area. Music was good and loud how I wanted it for sure.
My best friend and I visited here on Sunday for their outside brunch and bottomless mimosas. The vibes were chill, welcoming, the dj was playing and everyone was nice. The only issue was the timing of the food being brought to the table, we order two of the Monte Carlos, one was brought over about 15 minutes after we ordered and the second one was brought over about 15 minutes after we finished the first one. We never got the fries that were ordered twice and as we're grabbing our stuff to leave another waitress brought over two servings of our original order. 🙄
very cool aesthetic. lots of 80's nostalgia - Revenge of the Nerds, Cocktails, Stand By Me. They have a setup for live bands and also have a great DJ and a decent sized dance floor. Drinks are about average for the Walnut Creek Area. The crowd is a nice blend of young and more mature.
Fun place for a nostalgic experience with live music. They have arcade games, old school pinball, and classic music videos playing in the background. Drinks aren't great and very pricey. Don't order anything too fancy or you'll be disappointed.
For Contra Costa County natives, this space used to be WPLJ's, so it's not quite downtown. That being said, what a fun place! They have maximized the space with an outdoor and indoor stage. I was a little worried about the 100 degree weather, but the band I came to see was playing inside where there's air conditioning. The sound system was great! The staff was very efficient and I rarely had to wait to order a drink at the bar. The drinks are crazy expensive which is why I am giving 4 instead of 5 stars. My guess is that it's because this is a legit concert venue, and not just a bar. That's why there's a cover charge- you are literally paying for a concert- so keep that in mind. If you just want a place to get a drink, then go to Dan's. I definitely will be back. Super fun!
PROS: Unique decor, good to great cover bands, outdoor seating almost year round, good security, friendly staff and fast service CONS: food trucks are hit/miss. Sound system isn’t great. The fact it is quite a unique spot with live music multiple nights and good crowds makes up for most of the cons but I wish they would fix the sound.
This is a fun Retro 80's club hence its name. They have lots of Tribute bands ranging from 80's hair rock to new wave hits. After the bands are done playing an 80's DJ plays music from the 80's and the dance floor gets packed. Plenty of parking in the back and near by. The staff is friendly and the owner is super cool. My only wish is they served some kind of food. Come check it out !!
Fun spot. Parking is very difficult to find. The street parking is around the corner and very limited. The bar only had 3 bar tenders. Which seems low for a sold-out event. But they were nice and helpful. Good cover bands.
The creek needs as many cool places as possible. This spot could be the best, right now it's just in my top 5... go on an event night for a tribute band you truly enjoy or the vibes get stale quickly. Hear good things about live band karaoke. Great bartenders. Always popping off on the weekend so get on the guest list bring your beautiful friends or bring cover charge payment. Would give this place 5 stars however the owner needs to chill out. He could be a kinder and more useful guy. Minus 1 star for that. Everyone else on staff is wonderful.
I go on Tuesday and appreciate that they have Salsa and Bachata dancing. I drive an hour from San Mateo. Almost always a lot of people to dance with. Would love it if they played more bachata. The variety of ages and cultures make it more fun. Like dancing with people who just want to have fun - not about the show, most dancers are down-to-earth.
Pretty fun bar with some cool events, it was my first time but we heard about live band karaoke. That sounds pretty cool, well have to come back for that. They made good drinks and the bar tenders were nice as well. Pinball and pool and some other games for those not into karaoke. Over all cool bar with a chill vibe 👌
Looks are deceiving, this place has free parking in the front & back lot. Also the interior is spacious & well decorated. It definitely holds to its name as being retro 90's in a good way. The live band I came here to see wasent bad either. It was a Green Day cover band. You can find free tickets for some live performances here so it would be something to consider especially if your coming with a group for a fun night out. The VIP area is intresting, not sure what the point of it is here unless your getting bottle service in large groups. The bartenders are decent & have quick 'n good service. I noticed they have working pinball machines in the pool table area. Also two smoke destinations in the front & back of this place.
Had a great time listening to retro music and dancing. Seating space is limited. No food offered only drinks hence the 3 stars but we were able to have food delivered. Cocktails were decently priced and service was great. Cover charge was $30 at the door to listen to the bands.
Fun! Place to watch bands on the heavy metal side
Great vibes, terrible cocktails. It's all just crappy pre-made or horrific ratios with monstrosities of ingredient quality. Stick with anything canned or be around tap unless you want to just do shots. I would be happy to pay a couple more bucks for an actual craft cocktail made with quality made by a mixologist. Besides that, the customer service is awesome, the rules and regs are more than understandable, and when they bring in live music you're into, it's a really good time. Overall it's a great place, just stay away from the cocktails... Unless you're a Jack and Coke kind of person, then I will not be having cocktails with you regardless lol. Glad to have this place in the creek, been here a few times and it's always good times.
So much fun! Venue has something for everyone. 2 stages, indoor and outdoor. Video games and pool tables. Plenty of bathrooms. Staff was very friendly. We were in a reserved booth which was great because we didn't need to arrive early to grab a seat. Once the main (indoor) stage show starts everyone floods in to the dance floor in front of the stage. This is GA, standing room only. However, then your view from the reserved booth becomes completely obstructed. So if you are in the reserved sections, you'll have plenty of room and seats but you really will only hear the music. Once the live music ends, the dj starts. DJ was really good the night we were there. Took a star off because the drinks were terrible. Everything we ordered was super sweet and contained very little alcohol. Stick to beer I guess. Also it is very hot inside. Dress appropriately. Light clothing.
"Retro Junkie" is quite a progressive concept that more entertainment venues should establish. And that is by opening up an indoor/outdoor dance club earlier in the day. That's exactly what this place does and they do it right. Their hours are Sundays from 12:30-10pm and Tuesday through Saturday from 6pm to as late as 2am on weekend nights. Location is right in the heart of Walnut Creek off of N. Main Street and close to Ygnacio Valley Rd. I came here with a group of friends on the afternoon of Sunday, September 5th around 5:30pm and stayed until 9:30pm. We paid a $10 cover and this does allow in/out privileges after you get your hand stamped. One interesting concept about this place is that they have "themed" nights; meaning there are guest DJ's spinning a specific type of music (house, top 40, hip-hop, oldies, etc.), trivia nights, and live bands. There are also other forms of entertainment that includes cornhole, beer pong, a jumbo Connect Four game, Jenga, and even a food truck that parks adjacent to the outside area. I consider this place to be two clubs in one. The outdoor area has large communal style picnic benches over astro turf with several tents to block out the sunshine and any other outdoor elements. This is also the area where the DJ spins a variety of music depending on the day. Additionally, there are heat lamps (as we know how much the Bay Area temperatures drop after sunset) as well as lights and palm trees that only add to the colorful setup that this place has to offer. The inside has a look and feel of something entirely different which is a dedicated dance club complete with a large bar area and a back area complete with several pinball machines and pool tables. You will also find an area where they showcase skateboards and lots of vinyl records, hence the name Retro in "Retro Junkie". During the time my friends and I came, they were playing a ton of throwback 90's music mixed with some of the more modern hits. During these times where we are living in COVID, all of the employees were following safety guidelines by masking up and keeping themselves and others safe. I enjoyed several drinks including an iced cold beer and a mixed cocktail. Overall, I only wish there were more places like this everywhere. Sometimes its always fun to start dancing a little earlier in the day and that's what this place does right. Overall, I give "Retro Junkie" an above average four stars. Definitely fun vibes here!
I’ve visited this place years ago, but was so happy to see the updates since the pandemic. The beer garden is an open air haven! They show movies outdoors with a crisp & clear screen with a booming sound system. The bartender staff were friendly and made great 🍹 cocktails. The night I went they were serving street tacos, which were delicious. I’ll definitely go back.
I really like this place and the bands and dance floor are great, but it is way too loud. The live music actually hurts my ears. They offer ear plugs at the door for a reason! I don't get why they don't turn down the volume to help make it a pleasant and fun time.
Ambiance was great! The place is really clean. Good crowd. Expect to pay $10 for vodka soda and $9 for Bacardi and Coke. The music is way too loud for that small of a venue but they did have a great band tonight.
Really enjoyed the vibe. Great DJ and selection on drinks. Not happy with the $15 cover charge per person AFTER the show an hour prior to close and also not happy with the insane prices for drinks. If they were a little better on pricing, we would frequent this bar more often.
Great music and has a little dance floor for those who want to get down. Most of the songs were 90s and old school which I loved.. They also have a karaoke stage inside with arcades which is pretty cool. There was a requirement to order food with drinks and we never got the food. The drinks were more expensive ($30 for a pitcher of beer!!!) than I'm used to but I don't think the whole thing was worth going to for the price of the libations and food. It's a nice try it out place and find another spot.
I want to love it, but there are a few things holding it back. It's location is terrible. Besides being near jack in the box it's just in the middle of nowhere. Pair that with having the most expensive cover charge in the city and it's hard to love it. Also the music is usually terrible but that's just personal preference. On the plus sides the drinks are good, great dance floor, cool separate area to play pool, and cool events throughout the week. Overall it's okay. It's far from the worst bar but far from the best.
Way over priced door for cover bands and drinks. Strong PASS on this place.
This is my experience of Salsa/Bachata nights. The positive: I LOVE the music here for Salsa Night. Amazing dancers. People are generally cool and respectful, and the staff are chill. The negative: There are a lot of creepy men that hang out here. For example: One night I was grabbed from behind by a strange man, and when I looked aghast he said "oh sorry, you were just such a great dancer!" I told him I didn't want to talk, and later saw him touch/grab 3 other women and do the same thing. I've had other guys here tell me to smile, follow me around all night, try to guilt me into dancing with them (you can just ask), touch me without permission, you name it. I've never experienced this level of harassment at Salsa Clubs in Oakland, San Francisco or Mexico. The takeaway: I stopped going here not only because of these creeps, but because everyone seems fine with their behavior. I am bummed because the music and the dancing are wonderful. Most men I've danced with here are completely fine, but these few have ruined it for me. This is the only bar in the Bay where I'm actually afraid of getting roofied. I wish the bouncers/staff would keep a better eye out and intervene when it's out of hand. Or do literally anything to discourage this behavior. I just want to hang out and dance!
Really hit-or-miss bar from my experience. The tribute shows are awesome, and the few that I’ve been to have been a great time. Fun place to play some arcade games or pool as well. That being said, the cover fee is ridiculous, especially since they lost the outdoor area which gave the location a whole different dynamic, allowing you to get some air, chat where the music isn’t drowning out your voices, etc. also considering it doesn’t get super packed very often and the cover feels greedy (especially when they end up being empty). They also have some strange rules. Last time I went with a friend they made him remove his sports hat to enter… They said it was because people get in fights over sports teams there- whatever reason there is it’s something the business should do something about rather than causing customers to change their clothing… Like if I show up in a Lakers shirt am I supposed to go change? hysterical. TLDR: If there is an intriguing tribute show, swing by, they’re a blast. Otherwise I wouldn’t go, good chance you’d be paying $15-$25 to enter an empty room and leave within 10 minutes (This happened the last few times I went). Reply Response: My point is that Retro aren’t providing an experience that is worth a $15+ cover based on my experiences at many bars. It’s very telling that in responses to negative reviews Retro Junkie seems to be quite snarky and defensive. I’m commenting on my personal experience which is that paying a $15+ dollar cover to enter a near empty bar lacking any energy feels like a waste of time and money. This has been the case the last few times I’ve been here. If there was no cover I’d think “oh well, it’s rough tonight” and leave, but be willing to come back in the future because I’ve had good times there before and didn’t pay $15-25 for no reason. I also think that without the outside area the offering is decreased which makes me less willing to pay it and return in the future. I don’t think it’s a crazy suggestion to say they should drop the cover if there are under 50 people, for example. Countless bars do that because it’s quite logical. (Or have no cover before 9 PM, etc) Nobody wants to pay a cover to enter an empty bar, but is happy to do so if it’s energetic and they can assume they’ll stay for a while.
We went there mid-day and it was cold and windy. I was wearing a jacket, boots and 3 layers of tops. I asked for the heaters to be turned on several times and they said they would turn ours on, but they never did. They were out of most of the beers we ordered from the menu. We did have a reservation that we made a few days before. I don't really know what to say, but I hope they have their bar stocked and better service next time we decide to go. It is a cool place, but not sure what was going on that day.
I really wanted to enjoy this place.. but most of the staff and especially the security guards are really rude and disrespectful. You can tell most of them don't enjoy working here.. but the security guards that work here stay here since they have no education and all they do is workout, take steroids, and enjoy intimidating people. One of my friends recently was threatened because the security guard was extremely jealous of the sports car he was pulling up in. As he was pulling up many of the people were checking out and admiring the car, however the security guard crossed the middle of the street and approached his passenger window and made threats to assault him for no reason at all. I find this unprofessional and have never heard of a security staff more unprofessional than the one that works at Retro Junkie. I would highly recommend checking out some of the other spots in Walnut Creek over this one.
Somehow this place acquired my phone number and is now texting me begging for reviews. Well, here you go! I’m not sure who thought this was a good marketing tool. And before you say “oh you can just unsubscribe“. That’s true, but my personal cell phone number is now on some list. Ready to be leaked during the next data breach. Thanks, retro junkie! The club itself is fine. The decor and acts they have are cool. Most of the staff are nice, some of the bouncers are on a power trip.
I often come here on weekends. The DJ's music is fresh at first, but he plays the same music for a month. I'm getting tired of listening it. There are so many good 80s, 90s songs, but the DJ who can't find diversity must be kicked out.
This is a predominantly white bar and they treat people who are not white extremely rude. We were humiliated by being escorted out to a back entrance from using the men’s restroom. There were two other women also in there but the two of us were targeted. One of the women was a part of our party. Anthony was very abrupt and dismissive. At this point this is a legal matter , they also refused to refund our money. We literally was in this establishment for ten minutes or less. The manager on duty was completely dismissive and rude as well. Way to represent a brand! Don’t waste your time here if you are not white! You will be treated unfairly.
Owner is terrible! I was sober and calm, but grabbed by several men and forced to leave without a refund after only being there for ONLY 2 mins. Here's the story, I came here on my birthday completely sober ready to have fun. I was standing in the bathroom waiting for my friend. I tried to stay out the way and stood next to the mirror. The owners sister came in the rest room drunk, rude, and entitled. She pushed me out of the way so she can use the mirror. It was random and rude. She asked did I have a problem. I said, "no but what you just did was rude" she went on to talk with her hands in my face saying "her brother owns the spot and she will have me put out" she was very aggressive and weird. I told her, her brother being the owner doesn't give her a right to be rude to me, but she was drunk and stormed out to speak with security. I went to the bar and was trying to avoid anymore drama. ESP since I had only been inside for 2 mins and just paid $15 to get in. Next thing I know security grabs me and pushes me outside. Again, I was completely sober and never rude to anyone. The owner didn't give me a chance to talk and SEE how calm I was. He didn't ask questions to find out what happened, he just put me out. When I asked if I would be refunded he said "NO, get out" I was so upset because I never acted out until I was unnecessarily grabbed by several men to have me removed. If ANYONE would have spoken to me they would have seen that it was the weird, shallow sister that was acting out, but whatever. I still got my money back from the very sweet girl who worked in the front. She knew who I was talking about and saw that I was only there for 2 mins. Be careful at this place and their management. ESP be cautious of how they treat their women customers. Trust me I'm witness that they'll have several men grab you and make you leave without any conversation or refund. To the sister, thanks for showing me how disgusting this establishment truly is.
I think this place is the last point for people who don't have another choice. I was there several times and both times if you drink and relax their staff don't ask you for the next order, they are extorting that. I paid for macallan several times and two ladies understood my condition and started talking about the company with me. I was polite and paid for their cocktails but after they said we can sit in the VIP zone. When I sat there the bartender brought me a bill which I needed to pay. I was surprised when my credit card was cancelled. Of course I understand I need to try another one. So, this bill was closed and in the morning I found the transaction was $500. I was scammed by ladies and of course their bartender because she didn't tell me about the amount when it was the first time that it was cancelled. I understand I was drinking a lot but is this place not for that? Is this place not where people can relax, have safety and enjoy the atmosphere around? The absurd of the situation I paid every time not a bad money and I got this "respect". I never think about that in Walnut Creek but right now I don't think this place will be better because their interest is very low. This place looks like a "Gypsy club" at the road where you must watch your pockets. This place opens because there is no alternative around but I hope my review and experience will save your money and time.
Security is rude and they're forced to enforce silly rules while performing their jobs with no discipline leaving themselves and the customers vulnerable to anyone who really wants to harm to someone. I cant stand lazy and rude security. I don't see why they're there besides ending fights. Anyone paying attention knows this bar isn't safe. Any bar this tacky with a gull to enforce a dress code is laughable too. I've never hated a bar this much. The drinks were bad too. The owners responses to some of these reviews doesn't surprise me. He managed to have a snarcky response for every bad review but went silent when they got called out for taking people's phone numbers. Applebee's has a better atmosphere than this place
Your bouncer tonight on 2/20/26 did not let me in because I was in a hat. I’m a lady and had a hat on and was not allowed in. I like this bar. But this was a major turn off. I’m not allowed to wear a hat?!!
2nd time coming here for an event brite event. First time they were closed. Today we came for Warrior watch party. Said to be there between 4 and 6 to get in for food trucks, big screen party. Hahaha. Showed up at 5:15. They were closed until 6pm. At 6pm place was empty, music videos on big screen , no game on, no food. Warriors suck and so does Retro Junkie.
Terrible experience. The staff was rude, unprofessional, and completely unorganized. Definitely not worth the time or money. I won’t be coming back.
Went there with my husband and it was a great place but he got a little hungry and decided to get some food they had in a fenced off area that they provided. He was told that if we exited to get food we would have to walk all the way back around to the front when we were both paying customers with the cover charge at $20 per person. My husband is a disabled veteran with one leg and it didn’t make sense to provide an area to get food and be told to walk all the way back around to get in the building. My husband recorded all interactions with security and will upload to show how people from this country that served and defended for our freedom are really treated.
Horrible place. Horrible customer service. Horrible security. Dont go here. Find somewhere else to spend your money
This place I’ve been coming to for a long time has gone downhill. They have taken seats away for their reserved seats.no sight lines inother words you can’t seem the bands at all. The cocktail’s suck waterdowned. They need to raise the stage . As a person with disabilities they suck.
Drove over 20 miles just to arrive and be told by security at the entrance that they "don't allow clothing with sports logo" (even though my hoodie didn't have a sports logo and only referenced the Oakland A's coliseum as the last dive bar if we're being specific). I then decided I was gonna leave and not return since I didn't see the point in driving 60 miles back & forth from home just to change my attire. Which I had to take an L in wasting 17 dollars. At this point I took the time to look up their policy. Come to find out in the event details from eventbrite it did mention the rule of "No sports logos/sports attire", which I'll take responsibility for not checking prior. But here's the problem. Why was it stated there via eventbrite but not on the official website of this venue??!! Why did I have to go thru a 3rd party source to know that? By common sense I was gonna look on their website first yet no policy/rules section was found. There is also a picture in the photos section which states "No jerseys" but ought to say "No sports apparel of any kind". The only bar/venue I've had this happen to me. I was really looking forward to the daft punk night but maybe it was for the best that I didn't go. The various low ratings I read speak for themselves, along with the fact they have a no refund policy. $17 that I won't get back. And the photos seem to show that this place will only appeal to white folks that grew upon 80's or 90's rock bands. Speaking of 90's the arcade cabinets could have more variety of beat em up games like the Ninja Turtles (1991) and X-men (1992). Or even NBA Jam, a cult classic! I'll stick to the other bars I've gone to or Round 1 for this type of vibe. I'm good
They have security that is over reacting. My first time there and I went to the bathroom and ended up in the wrong bathroom - there was no one in the bathroom so I made an honest mistake. I come out and a security guy angrily throws me out with my girlfriend. Talk about over reacting - I understand if you make trouble but these security guards react like well are a bunch of troublemakers! First and last time there! Oh yeah the mixed drinks are horrible too.
I recommended this place previous because I always had a great time! I usually recommend this place to anyone who visits the bay- but I just recently got some very, very upsetting news. My very good family friend’s fiancé came here with her girlfriends for a good time and her ID was confiscated? I laughed in disbelieve when I first heard the story: I didn’t believe it because last I knew my friend Enrique was part owner ? (I haven’t been to this establishment in over ten years because I moved away.) Maybe there is new owners and that’s why it’s not as good? Clearly, quality of the establishment has degraded for them to treat anyone with this type of malice? The business actually commented back and said “Hopefully you will work on being a more honest human being in the future.” Wow. Shame on you. That couple are the most honest people I know. Taking a women OF age, her ID? Instead of just turning her away at the door. That’s absolutely unreal to me… How times have changed for the worst at retro junkie :( Makes me sad.
I think their recent reviews speak for themselves. We were denied entry by Vinny the head of security who has clearly let the title get to his bald head. We arrived with a seltzer in hand and he told us we could not have it on their property so we took it back to our car 2 blocks down. We came back and he denied us entry because we didn’t follow his “order” to throw it away. He never told us that. He then proceeded to say we were going to cost him his liquor license, at the time there was plenty of other men drinking in their actual lot out of their trunks with beer cans. My friends and I were all brown and didn’t look like the demographic that was in the building. Even his mate was questioning why he was doing this. Absolutely horrible establishment, but what more can you expect from a location in Walnut Creek. Anyways, check out Albany, ca for better, more welcoming environments.
If you are black and come here prepare to be racially profiled. I came here to support my friend, and of all the 70 people in the room he was on my coattails. The “security”(with tattoos everywhere mentionable) here the guy with many tattoos is bias. I was accompanying my friend, but as I was trying to assist my friend to the bathroom he was immediately on my heels. And throughout the night he was staring me down, me one of two only black guys on the Latin. This place is not exclusive, and the POC here uphold the racism of WC.
Went here a few years back for my birthday. I’ve been to plenty of bars, but I’ve never experienced security as unprofessional and rude as I did here. they were dismissive, aggressive, and spoke down to us for no reason. Also seeing the way they’re responding to other bad reviews just speaks for them as a company. Plenty of other great places to go in Walnut Creek.
Went to Retro Junkies and had one of the worst, most unprofessional experiences I’ve ever had at a bar. The staff illegally confiscated my fiancée’s valid ID, claiming it was fake. I’m 26 and she’s 28 why on earth would we need fake IDs? When we called back the next day to speak with management, they told us the ID would be ready for pickup. But when we arrived, it had mysteriously disappeared. They offered no explanation, no replacement, nothing — just “a table for the night” as if that made up for them taking and losing a government-issued ID. This place is sketchy, careless, and completely unprofessional. If you value your time, money, and personal property, stay far away.
