Definitely a hidden gem in Bath. Excellent food and elegant service. I had the lunch course menu which is super affordable and great quality. The location is somewhat hidden so lunch time can be quiet but very peaceful. Highly recommended. Pictured: Ajwain broccoli, Lamb rogan josh, and Pistachio kulfi - all were perfect.
Honestly I can't remember a better Indian meal. We had the lunch menu and didn't eat again that day. The food was just great subtly and delicately spiced so that the heat built over the course of the meal. That's real culinary skill. It's sad that I live 4 hours away otherwise this would be my go-to restaurant.
Just a wonderful experience from start to finish. Manny our server was exceptional! He was attentive, helpful and the perfect host. Service like his makes all the difference. All the staff were very friendly and made the effort to greet us and say goodbye. The food was fantastic, hot and delicious. I live less than 5 minutes from Root Spice and this was my first visit. What a find.
Absolutely superb experience, staff were all extremely friendly especially our waitress 'Preeta' who was very knowledgeable and carried out her duties with a constant smile. As for the food.... Pure art and the flavours were sublime. I'm a huge fan of Indian cuisine and I cannot remember a meal that compared to this one. Will definitely be back in the not too distant future.
The food at Root Spice was amazing. We dined here in august 2025. I had tandoori prawns and my husband had Lamb Rogan Josh. The prawns we succulent and booked perfectly and the lamb was tender and in an excellent punchy sauce. We shared a saag aloo which perfectly complimented the other mains. The coffee was excellent too. Service was very pleasant and with a table overlooking the river it could not be a better experience. Would come back to bath for this restaurant.
On a break in Bath and fancied a curry. What a fab choice we made. We booked and got a lovely table by the window over looking the river. The food was absolutely fabulous!! The staff were lovely and the restaurant itself has a very relaxed cosy feel. Definitely recommend 👍👍
Very good Indian cuisine. Service was very friendly. I recommend the veggie starter mix and prawn patia, veg bunna, and kulfi. For the kulfi I asked if were possible to get half saffron and half pistache. He said it wasn’t possible but they ended up giving us a saffron kulfi on the house! Both were delicious.
It was the best Indian food we’ve had in the UK! We were drawn in by the lunch course. The starters - broccoli and onion bhaji - along with the korma (main) were fantastic! It wasn’t too spicy. We were the first to arrive for lunch, and the waiter seated us at the best table by the window with a beautiful view overlooking the river.
Superb food. I have to say the jalfrezi I ate was probably the best I've experienced!. Excellent quality and flavours. Clearly freshly prepared. The female staff member on Sunday evening was attentive and responsive and really warm in approach. If I lived locally this would be my go too for this cuisine. Only 1 minor . Be seated near the entry door at this time of year could be an issue if left open as it would likely be drafty. Buy yourself a TP LINK to avoid signal drop in your booking system. The reminder is infuriating!. Definitely pay a visit you won't be disappointed.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ We had the most amazing 7-course meal at Root Spice with a bottle of wine, and it was soooo delicious! I mentioned that we had limited time, and the staff went above and beyond to make sure everything ran smoothly. They coordinated perfectly with the chef so we never had to wait between courses. Every dish was bursting with flavour — truly outstanding. The whole team was incredibly helpful and attentive, and the meal itself was insanely good. Bravo, Root Spice — absolutely brilliant experience!
Lovely food and service and great location on the side of Pultney Bridge. Saturday lunchtime was surprisingly quiet. Wonderful attentive service, super menu with some interesting and innovative options. Was an anniversary birthday and they made special arrangements which was wonderful. Many thanks to the warm welcome and hospitality of the team for making a memorable lunch in Bath.
The best Indian my partner & I have had! The food looked so well presented & tasted amazing!! So flavoursome, the meat melted in your mouth and the garnishes complimented the dishes very nicely. We live just over an hour away and would happily return to Bath just for that meal alone! The staff were also so lovely and attentive.
We travelled from Reading specifically to eat here. Easy to miss the entrance but very worthwhile when you find it. Just revisited after our first time where we didn't have much time. This time we had a leisurely 2 hour lunch. The food was fantastic, best I've ever had. Large portions (I'm writing this 7 hours after we left and I've not eaten anything since and I'm still not hungry) and great service. Make sure you book to avoid disappointment.
A lovely city centre restaurant with great vibes, amazing food and lovely staff! Well curated menu with many options catering to different dietary requirements. Everything we ordered was incredibly tasty, well flavoured and staff were attentive and helpful. Would 100% recommend a visit!
Hidden away a short walk near Pulteney Bridge, Root Spice is an absolute gem. As you stroll past, the aroma of Indian spices drifting from the restaurant instantly teases your senses and sets the tone for what’s to come. The food was delicately flavoured, beautifully prepared, and thoughtfully presented. Every dish we ordered was superb — perfectly balanced spices, fresh ingredients, and clearly cooked with care. The service is friendly and welcoming. A must-visit for anyone looking for exceptional, great-tasting Indian cuisine in Bath. Highly recommended! The Lunch Time deal is a great offering, as is the a’la carte menu.
We visited here this evening and I wanted to leave a review before I forget! We went in as a walk in which was a gamble as you can’t see in from the road but we were pleasantly surprised. The service was very good, super attentive. The fish curry, coconut rice and naan bread deserve a special mention but all of it was great. I would recommend this place for date nights, it’s nicer than your standard curry house, prices are fair for the offering and the decor is smart. Portions are perfect. Not too much but not too little. We don’t live in the area so no idea if we will be back but if we get the chance then we will :)
Second time visiting. Once again had the tasting menu, it's been updated since we last visited. Some of the same dishes, but some have been updated to be much better suited to the tasting menu! The street food starters are lovely, the crab was delicious and the lamb is beautiful. But the best thing is the naan. I love the naan here. Inject it into my veins. Will be coming back.
We really enjoyed our meal at Root Spice. The service was kind and attentive. Beautiful location and decor. Many lovely options to choose from. We booked a table in advance and pleased we did. The poppadoms and dips were really nice. I had the king prawn biryani which was really tasty. The portions were quite big I did not manage to finish. We look forward to going back, would definitely recommend!
We ate here one Thursday night in December. Deceptively large once you get down the stairs and into the restaurant. Menu items were different compared to the usual offerings at an Indian restaurant. Lots to choose from and try. Avocado vegetable starter was delicious as was the dansak and biriyani. I wish we’d have had room for dessert. Wouldn’t hesitate to return here on next visit to Bath. Final bill included alcohol and tip.
We shared Poppadoms and sauces, Lamb Dhansak, chilli garlic naan, basmati rice and it was all incredible. We didn’t have a reservation and it was amazing. If you can make a reservation, request a window which overlooks the River Avon. Lovely ambiance either way.
We had a gorgeous meal and lovely service at Root Spice, a new restaurant in Bath that we will be sure to return to. The portion sizes were generous and the flavours were fabulous. Recommend the prawn biryani and the sharing platter for starters (it's big!)
Lovely ambience, great service and a really nice meal. Highly recommended.
Meal was delicious—we had the butter masala with paneer, and the chicken korma. Both were absolutely packed with flavor. Service was also superb. Highly recommend!
We saw that this Indian place had good reviews and decided to give it a shot and so glad we did! It was unassuming upon entry as we went down the stairs but soon entered a very nicely done restaurant and it was very clean! We had a lovely waitress who was so kind and friendly. Our meal was delicious! We had the chicken butter masala and chicken biryani with coconut rice and garlic naan. We loved everything and thought it was all delicious. We were very impressed with this experience from start to finish. There were two dining rooms with ample amounts of room for just about any size group.
Lovely restaurant with pleasing decor and nice atmospheric music in the background. Service was great (thanks Angelica!) and the food was amazing. We tried the Chaat, Lamb Shank, Chicken Bhuna, roti, and finished with a pistachio kulfi. I’d definitely recommend and hope to go back and try more of their dishes!
I would recommend this fabulous restaurant to all visiting Bath. Fine dining and the ambience is great. The staff are welcoming and the service is outstanding. We had the chicken biryani and chilli chicken with garlic naan. Which was delicious 10/10 The chaat was a 100/10 . We finished it in no time. There is a nice river view if you get the seats beside the window.
Absolutely beautiful food with attentive service. The food is full of flavour and cooked beautifully. It’s our second time at Root Spice but we will certainly keep coming back to this amazing restaurant. Soyful was as welcoming as ever and I would hesitate to recommend Root Spice to anyone
An absolutely brilliant Indian restaurant. We only spotted it walking down the street and been avid Indian food fans were attracted by the elegant menu. The quality of the food for us was up there with probably one of the best curry’s we have had, and we’ve had a lot! My wife is a vegetarian so asked for a variation on the menu, changing the chicken bhuna to a paneer bhuna. They made the change with no fuss and we appreciated the service. Thanks! When we’re next in Bath we’ll certainly visit again!
Went here on a recommendation from someone who had just finished dining here, It was phenomenal. The food was delivered quickly and was definitely some of the best Indian food we had eaten. The consensus for favorite dish was the chicken butter massala, but the chicken musslam was a close second. Small warning: If you don't like any spice, this place may be a little dangerous. Overall a wonderful experience at a great new restaurant!
Excellent find in Bath. Great food and excellent staff. Very friendly, clean and one of the best Indian meals I’ve ever had.
Fabulous Fine Indian Dining in Bath. Food was amazing. Gorgeous setting. Fantastic service. We had the chili chicken and lamb Rogan Josh. Excellent. 10/10.
Amazing lunch deal. Friendly service, great food and they do a superb value lunch deal all week
Fabulous South Asian food in a lovely setting. The menu includes some imaginatively different dishes and the quality is simply superb. It was very quiet when we were there (a wet Monday early evening, but I'm sure it would have a great atmosphere too with more diners there. The owner was very welcoming and helpful. We would eat there again without any doubt. Strongly recommended.
Dinner was fantastic and authentic (I’ve been to India many times) and the service so friendly and efficient and it is a beautiful historic location not to be missed!
Definitely the best Indian restaurant I have ever been to. Their food is next level and way beyond the standard run of the mill stuff served at other Indian restaurants. I cannot praise them highly enough and looking forward to visiting again.
We enjoyed a family dinner here, to celebrate a birthday. The staff were hugely accommodating to make sure we had a high chair and small portion of korma for my 2-year-old. Unfortunately we were not able to stay long or sample more than a main course as said 2-year-old was ready for bed, but what we did eat was absolutely incredible. It was a big shame we were not able to try more food, as the menu looked so tasty. We would definitely want to come back here on our next trip to Bath!
We stumbled upon this amazing curry house last night and what a find! Probably the best curry we’ve had in years (and we’ve had quite a few!). The food was exceptional and the service was impeccable. Honestly I could t fault it. Added to the fact it’s in some of Bath historic vaults - very cool vibe. Highly recommend but do try and book ahead - we were so lucky to get a table as a walk in.
Our whole group (7 of us) agreed this was the best curry we've ever had. We had the venison, lamb, salmon, chicken and seafood and every single dish was perfect. Plus the most delicious onion bhajis! The only slight issue we had was with our Opentable booking which the manager couldn't find (even though I had confirmed it the day before), but they still managed to give us a table as we were quite early so that was a huge relief. The staff seemed quite stressed as it was Friday night, and didn't really seem to enjoy themselves. We had to wait quite a while to get our orders in, but didn't really mind. Perhaps best to aim for earlier dinner booking to avoid the crowds, it's clearly a popular place (for a reason!).
Had an excellent meal at Root Spice. The food and service were outstanding and the atmosphere in the restaurant is very relaxing. The food was delicious - it is not the "standard" Indian restaurant menu, with some interesting dishes which were new to us. Very friendly and helpful servers. Great city centre location. Only caveat is that it would not be a good choice if you have mobility issues.
I never post public reviews but this place deserves it. Was so happy to see them so busy tonight and it made me want to leave one, I think about their food once a week or so if I’m honest because it’s so good it’s ridiculous but if we ate there more I’d be out of my current wardrobes trousers. And I hate clothes shopping. But I adore this restaurant and have since it opened. Thank you at root spice you always make dinner phenomenal and we appreciate you so much ❤️
This is a no brainer. The food was hot, fresh and tasty, we ordered lamb shank, chicken jalfreizi, chicken dansak and aloo paneer. It was all really good, freshly made and delicious. The service was excellent and the staff friendly. If you decide to try it pay attention as it is very hard to see from the road. It is just a doorway that leads down steps to the restaurant below.
They had clearly over booked this evening. From getting our table to paying the bill everything took a long time. There was a constant long queue at the door. The meat was amazing quality but the food lacked any real flavour. Staff seemed very stressed.
We came for a 30th birthday which was meant to be a special night, we waited 1.5 hours to order and waited another hour before we were even served a drink. We requested water four times and never received it. The food was tasty but the night was ruined by the terrible and unfriendly staff. Three other tables walked out during our time there. I would give service and atmosphere a 0 if I could.
