Great customer service. Delicious food.
If you’re looking for the best East African food in the entire DFW area, Shebelle Bar & Grill is hands-down one of the top spots to try. From start to finish, this restaurant delivers an authentic, flavorful, and memorable experience that celebrates East African cuisine with heart. From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted with a warm welcome and an inviting atmosphere. The staff is incredibly friendly and knowledgeable — they’re always ready to explain the dishes and traditions behind the food, which makes the experience feel personal and genuine, especially if it’s your first time trying Ethiopian or East African cuisine. The food itself is exceptional. The injera is soft and fresh, serving as the perfect base for a variety of rich and aromatic stews. The doro wot is deeply spiced and comforting, while the lamb and beef dishes are tender and cooked to perfection. Vegetarians and meat-eaters alike will find plenty to love — from perfectly seasoned lentils and collard greens to flavorful vegetable stews that burst with spice and depth. What sets Shebelle apart is not just the food but the full cultural experience — sharing dishes family-style, using injera to pick up your food, and savoring bold East African flavors you won’t find anywhere else in Dallas–Fort Worth. The portions are generous, the prices are fair, and the music and vibe make it a great choice for both casual dinners and special nights out. Whether you’re new to East African cuisine or already a fan, Shebelle Bar & Grill is a must-visit in the DFW area. Authentic taste, friendly service, and genuine cultural flair — this place has it all. Highly recommended!
Helen was amazing! Great environment, good food, excellent service! Make sure you come check this place out!
Super bummed I didn’t try this place sooner because my lawwwd the food is DELICIOUS!!. I’ve been here 3 times in the last month because it is that good! First time was my birthday, we dined in. The next two times I ordered food to-go. We tried their house margaritas which were so good like surprisingly good considering I’m not a fan of the taste of liquor. When dining in our waiter was Alex who was awesome. He said the food is made fresh and it really tastes fresh each time! We tried their combo platter, samosas, plantains, and Ugali. My personal favorites were the Doro Wot, Atkilt Alicha, Misir kik wot, and the plantains. Since then, I’ve ordered the Doro Wot plate which comes with two sides and is enough food for at least two meals. Their service each time has been phenomenal they are so nice, friendly, and informative about the options. The atmosphere is very quiet and slow during the day but at night they start the music and I’ve heard have DJs as well so would love to come back to experience that. Overall, highly recommend this restaurant as the food is phenomenal and fresh, the injera is soooo good! Service has always been great and the atmosphere is relaxing.
The food n service was spot on... if you enjoy Ethiopian cuisine this is the spot to check out. I've become a regular customer over the pass few months n choose this spot to end my nights with full n satisfied.
Stepping into Shabelle feels like crossing the threshold of a secret Parisian salon reimagined for the modern palate. The decor strikes an exquisite balance: a honeyed glow, and off white walls . The music, a curated playlist of African music drifts at conversation-friendly volume during the day that increases as the evening wears. But the true sorcery begins when the menu arrives with a vast selection of Ethiopian and Kenyan dishes. Great job.
Absolutely MUST for anyone in Dallas! I never had Ethiopian food before but I definitely have a new addiction!!! The owner was super sweet and answered my questions about the food and I got to learn how to eat with the Injera instead of a fork! The food was phenomenally seasoned and I frankly have never tasted something so well seasoned. I had the doro tibis dish for my first visit!
Interested in trying foods of east and west African, Ethiopian, and Jamaican flavor? Shebelle Bar and Grill is a suburban gem offering a welcoming atmosphere, music (R&B and other club bangers), and good vibes. The service was superb and the food was tasty. Shebelle Bar and Grill is the spot to venture to on a Friday and Saturday night. I recommend you try the Injera, salmon teriyaki, fish, wings, lamb, catfish, and a variety of cocktails.
Shebelle presents consistently outstanding Ethiopian food in an attractive and clean restaurant at very reasonable prices. My favorite dish would definitely be the Zilzil Tibis. The Zilzil Tibis were delivered on a hot sizzling iron pan with veggies. I also love the Shebelle combination which gives you variety of meat based and vegetarian dishes, condiments and sauces. The injera bread was so fresh and warm. The food always served hot and the wait time wasn’t long at all. I also noticed they have hookah on Friday & Saturday nights from 10pm-2:00am. The staff also made me feel at home. I’ll definitely be back❤️ Five stars!
This was first time dining at Shebelle. Most importantly ever experiencing Ethiopian Cuisine. They made such an impression on me that I will most definitely return. It was not too crowded, they gave instructions for first timers on how to eat Ethiopia food, the staff was very knowledgeable, answered all of questions and gave fast and friendly service with a smile. Beautiful people!!
First time trying Ethiopian food in Dallas and was pretty impressed. I've had it before in the San Francisco area, and I would say this was on par or even better! We went for a late lunch on a Sunday, and it wasn't crowded at all. Large, clean space with lots of TVs and somewhat loud music. Waitress was friendly and have some good recommendations. Minor miss as they didn't pass my water test... Cup was empty for awhile before they noticed. That being said, the food was spot on and made up for the water test miss! + Sambusa: excellent! Came out with 2 pieces and had a bomb tangy sauce on the side that really paired well with the crispiness and meaty filling. I could have ordered more of these. + Injera: perfect level of softness and chewiness and sourness! + Shebelle combo plate: came with Doro wot, kitfo, Yebeg alicha, minchet & vegetables. Everything had great flavor but the lamb yebeg alicha was probably my favorite out of all of them. We'll definitely be coming back!
Between our super sweet and helpful waiter, and the amazing food, I'll definitely be back here. We started off with some samosas that were fresh and steamingly hot, and moved on to different to a sampler dishes. Nothing that I had was less than delicious, and we had so much food. Kind of an odd building that made me wonder if it had been renovated from some other restaurant's interior.
The service was great, the food was very unique and the combo was a good choice. The prices are a little high and the atmosphere was very quite since there was no background music when I went.
My experience at Shebelle has been okay. The staff was nice, the food was delicious however having the restaurant and bar together makes it uncomfortable for families with kids . only one person taking orders and cooking the meal created unnecessary delays. I will definitely come again but service needs to be better!
Ordered togo of doro wot, doro Tibis, yebeg tibis, vegetable combination. The vegetable combination is awesome and doro wot is good like a gravy, doro tibis and yebeg tibis are little like dry items. All of them taste good. The quantity of food served is good. Specially the tiff, there are extra tiffs served. Hard to complete the full dish as its filling and heavy. Definitely worth a try.
Was there on a Monday night and the place was not at all crowded. However the ambience was quite nice and the staff was friendly. I had a vegetarian soup - Azifa which is served cold. This soup was just amazing. For the main course I went for the vegetable combo which I must say was very satisfying. The taste was awesome and the portion was great too. The Price is very reasonable. If you are at Plano and looking for Ethiopian food this one is highly recommend.
The service was incredibly slow, taking an hour just to get the appetizers. To make matters worse, the food was outrageously expensive. For just $7, we were given two pieces of samosa that were greasy and flavorless. We left because the loud music was unbearable, and we didn’t want to endure another hour or two waiting for the main courses. This is a typical bar or nightclub with blaring music, so it’s not suitable for family outings.
The food was enjoyable, and we appreciated the freshly made injera. However, some of the dishes were served cold, which affected the overall dining experience. Additionally, the atmosphere felt more like a bar or nightclub, making it less suitable for family visits. I would not recommend this location for family outings.
I had really high hopes for this establishment but unfortunately it’s another “overpriced restaurant/lounge fusion” concept. I went on Sunday for brunch, and arrived about 20mins after the opening time. The staff was not ready to receive guests as tvs/sound was not on. One of the bartenders and the manager had a verbal altercation next to me while debating on the correct time to serve alcohol on Sundays. The menu for the brunch mains is overly saturated with the “n-grits” options. I decided to order one of those options (salmon and grits) but I feel like the heavy cream to make the sauce was expired as it had a slight pungent taste. I also ordered the boudin eggrolls but they were delicious. I spent $70 for a single mimosa, salmon and grits, and egg rolls. They charge gratuity to every check (I was by myself) PLUS an additional service fee if you are using a card and not cash. Sighhh, overall it’s not worth it. My experience at this black owned establishment wasn’t anything to brag about or experience twice. They definitely have work to do. Extremely overpriced when luxury and upscale were not the true experience you will receive.
