So happy to have CoCo Ichibanya here in the States! I first had it in Japan, and I’m honestly impressed that it tastes just as good here. The curry has that same rich, comforting flavor I remember, and it totally hit the spot. It’s hard to find Japanese curry that really compares, so this was such a treat. Definitely a place I’ll be coming back to.
If you want to try Japanese curry and you are in thsme area you NEED to come here. It tastes just like the original Coco Ichibanya's from Japan. You won't be disappointed.
I was first introduced to CoCo Ichibanya by my son in 2017. He had just returned from Okinawa, where he had it, and he took us to one of their locations in Los Angeles. Japanese curry is now one of my favorite cuisines, and I am so glad that it's in Texas now. This location's staff is very attentive. Your drink glass will not stay empty for long. We went during a busy Friday lunch hour. I watched the manager go to each table and speak with diners, including ours. *Try the combo curry with tomato and asparagus. I had it with the garlic shrimp, it's my new favorite.
All of my friends that have deployed or were stationed in Japan race about cocos. So glad I was finally able to try them stateside. Try the level 10 spice once. It’s not for everyone but it’s actually delicious and spicy. Staff was super friendly and the place is super clean. Definitely a great dish for the winter time. Beef curry was great and you can’t forget the egg. Will definitely be back again to try more options on their menu.
CoCo Ichibanya is my go-to place for bringing out-of-town visitors or fixing a bad day. Japanese curry is my favorite food, and CoCo has the best curry in the area. Since I first came here in February, I've probably been ten times or more because the food and service are incredible. Their chicken cutlets are always thin and juicy, vegetables soft and delicious, and the customizable spice levels are fantastic. I've been here on my own to study, brought groups of friends, and gotten takeout, and it's been a great experience every time. I only caution you to book ahead or prepare for a wait if you come on the weekends - the restaurant can easily get pretty full since the dining room is fairly small. Weekdays you're almost guaranteed a quiet meal and great atmosphere. The service you get is consistently friendly and attentive no matter when you come, though. I highly recommend CoCo Ichibanya! Everyone I've taken here has loved it and I come here as often as I can. I'm so glad we have a location here in North Texas!
We got there right when it opened and didn't have any issues being seated right away. But by the time we left there was a line to get in. The food was tasty. Came out fast and service was helpful answering our questions. I tried the pork cutlet omelette curry mild and bf got the spicy chicken curry. Naan was soft. Overall we liked it and will return.
It’s a great place to try somewhat localized and fusion Japanese curry. We had pork cutlet curry udon and pork cutlet omelette curry. Both were tasty and satisfying. I like the kids meal had ordinary items and a small bowl of curry for them to try the flavor. The servers were quite busy, but we didn’t have to wait to sit down.
Walked in and waited around 5 minutes before we got seated. We were greeted warmly by the workers and were able to order within a few minutes of sitting down. We ordered the garlic naan, and 2 versions of curry. I liked the variety and various choices we could pick. One of the best curry places in dfw in our opinion!
Nabila’s treat My visit to CoCo Ichibanya was an absolute delight from start to finish. Every aspect of the experience; the food, the service, and the atmosphere, was nothing short of perfect. The main highlight was the squid rice menu. The squid was cooked to perfection, tender and flavorful, and the curry itself had a depth of flavor that was simply incredible. It's clear that every ingredient is chosen with care, resulting in a dish that is both comforting and exciting. The staff provided top-notch service with a genuine warmth that made me feel incredibly welcome. They were attentive and efficient, ensuring a smooth and enjoyable dining experience. The atmosphere was also fantastic, clean, comfortable, and inviting, creating the ideal setting for a wonderful meal. I wholeheartedly recommend this restaurant and can't wait to return.
We really enjoyed the food! The chicken cutlet was super crispy and had a nice strong kick from level 5 spice. The vegetable croquette was crunchy outside and soft and yummy inside. Our kid loved the kheema with Naan at regular spice—Great spot for tasty food that works for the whole family. We’ll go back! 😊
This was my first time visiting Cocolichibanya, and while the food wasn't entirely to my personal taste, I'm giving a solid 4-star review based on the overall experience from my family! The atmosphere is cozy; it's a small place, but it felt clean and welcoming. The Food: I'll be honest, the style of food is just a little too different for me. Most of items are something with gravy over a fried item, and I'm simply not a fan of that combination—but that's a purely personal preference! My wife and son, loved it. Since they enjoyed it so much, I'm reflecting their positive experience in the food rating by giving the food itself a 5-star rating. Clearly, this place is hitting the mark for fans of Japanese-style curry. Service was okay, nothing exceptional. Our server was not very attentive on checking on us or filling water. Hope management will check to improve customer experience.
Coco Ichiban is a great little spot if you’re craving Japanese curry. The staff are really friendly and attentive, and food comes out pretty quickly, which is always a plus. One unique thing about this place is their spice rating system that goes all the way up to 20. For reference, a 5 or 6 is about the heat of Tabasco, so you can really customize it to your comfort level. The curry itself is on the runnier side compared to traditional Japanese curry, but it still pairs nicely with the rice. The omelet is perfectly cooked (not runny), making it a solid choice if you want something comforting. The pork, however, was a little overcooked during my visit, and it would have been nice if they provided a knife to make cutting it easier.
If you're a fan of Japanese curry, Coco Ichibanya in Frisco is a must-try! The ability to customize your curry with different spice levels, rice portions, and a wide array of delicious toppings makes every visit a unique experience. Many reviewers praise the consistent quality, noting that it's just as good as the Coco Ichibanya locations in Japan. While it can get busy, especially during peak hours, the delicious and comforting curry is definitely worth any potential wait. The staff is generally friendly and efficient, ensuring a pleasant dining experience. Whether you're a long-time fan or new to Japanese curry, Coco Ichibanya offers a satisfying and flavorful meal.
If you're someone accustomed to a lot of flavor and spices, this place may underwhelm you. Look, the food wasn't bad... But for my taste, it wasn't memorable either. I was first under the impression that it was Japanese-Indian fusion. It's not (my bad). Apparently "curry" is its own thing in Japan (introduced by the British who, of course, took it from India). With this confusion and seeing items like "keema" and "naan" , I wasn't sure what to expect from this place. If you've had these Japanese curry dishes before, you may be better positioned to enjoy them here. Personally, I found their preparations on the blander side with the spices feeling superficial. For instance, the curry seemed to be made from market bought curry powder - a common base. The chicken cutlet didn't have any flavor or seasoning; it was just breaded chicken. Now, the spicy teriyaki chicken tasted better but the "spicy" felt like a Sriracha glaze. The flavors didn't seem to penetrate through. The Thai tea, made from Pantai Thai Tea mix, was disappointing with 75% of the glass filled with ice. Maybe I've totally misunderstood the food or my expectations were misaligned - but either way, it wasn't for me. I still would have given 4/5 all things considered but I am taking off another point for the staff service. The cashier lady was welcoming but the servers were unnecessarily policing the more spacious tables for potential larger parties even during non-busy hours when 80% of the tables were empty. Secondly, despite having significantly more space on one side, the servers kept walking through the cramped side with their rear ends floating above our table. Anyway, maybe I'll give this another go in Japan itself...but probably not here.
I usually enjoy Coco Ichibanya, but my most recent visit was honestly pretty disappointing. The portions have significantly reduced compared to what they used to serve, and the plate I received didn’t look anything like what’s shown in their photos or menu. What used to be a generous, satisfying serving now feels noticeably smaller and underwhelming. On top of that, the prices have gone up — which would be understandable if the quality or quantity matched the increase, but paying more for visibly less is frustrating. The flavor is still good, but it’s hard to enjoy the meal when the value just isn’t there. For comparison, I’ve attached a picture I took in 2023 and a picture from my most recent visit last week.
Compared to Okinawa, this isnt the same. We came 6 hrs for a taste of Japan again and were disappointed. The curry was dark, and soupy. The naan was not at all the same. The chicken was thin with very little actual chicken. Super spicy despite a low level. Don't come here expecting the same as the original. The staff was amazing though. Very attentive.
Great food and great service overall. However, we did experience a concerning issue. My wife found a piece of plastic in the keema cheese fries and had already chewed it before noticing. We immediately informed the manager, and the dish was replaced with multiple apologies, which we appreciated. What was disappointing, though, was being told that it “wasn’t plastic,” despite what we clearly saw and felt. We were also told the restaurant has cameras and could review them. We hope they take this seriously and double‑check their food preparation process to prevent this from happening again. Food safety should always be a top priority. Hi Michael, Thank you for responding. I want to clarify a few points because my review was never written out of a “grudge.” It was a one‑star review because a foreign object — which looked and felt like plastic — was found in our food and was already chewed before we realized it. That is a serious food‑contamination issue that can pose health risks. In your reply, you stated that you “never said it was not plastic” and that your kitchen “does not use plastic.” However, during our conversation at the restaurant, we were clearly told that it wasn’t plastic and that plastic is not used in the kitchen. That contradiction is exactly why the situation felt dismissive. When a customer finds something foreign in their food, the priority should be acknowledging the concern and investigating it — not insisting what it is or isn’t before checking. My review reflects the experience we had and the importance of preventing foreign objects from entering food. This is not about harming your business; it is about food safety and customer health. Any responsible customer would speak up after such an incident. I hope this feedback is taken constructively. We want local businesses to succeed, but food safety and honest communication must always come first.
I came right when they opened at 11 AM and ordered the tonkatsu and omurice curry. Because this place has over a thousand reviews, I had very high expectations. Unfortunately, the food was disappointing. As soon as I took a bite of the tonkatsu, there was a strong unpleasant meat smell. The curry tasted very heavy, almost like it had too much starch, and oil had separated at the bottom. Overall, it felt quite greasy. The flavors were confusing, and I couldn’t tell if the food was meant to be Japanese, Korean, Indian, or Chinese. Based on this experience, it’s not a place I would visit again.
