Brisket had great flavor even though the texture was a little dry. The sides were awesome and the service was top notch.
Fantastic brisket and the best rib Ive ever had a bbq joint. My buddies kid got the cheese burger and it looked like a juicy hand made patty - Waitresses were as nice as could be. Was very pleased with everything.
Took my husband, that's originally from Oregon, to this place. He loved it! Food was delicious, friendly service and definitely want to go back. I'm born and raised in Texas, and know good BBQ when I eat it.
Been going here for 30 years and they have kept the quality as high as ever. Brisket is tender without being over smoked. Pork ribs are - let me put it this way- if I was a pork rib I would want to be prepared this way. The rub is spot on and don't even think about putting sauce on these lovelies. Oh yeah, the sauce is true Texas and the onion rings are crunchy and oh so tasty. Not gonna lie, miss the sawdust on the floor.
Great place to stop by after visiting Fossil Rim. I was actually surprised by the price. It was cheaper than I thought. The atmosphere was great and the service was super fast. It is BYOB so you can stop by next door and buy a beer to have with your barbecue. Brisket was great but the peach cobbler is to die for. Definitely recommend this place.
The staff ( Valerie and Merae) were pleasant, awesome and quick. The food was fantastic! Hammond's will be on our dining list every trip we make to Glen Rose. It's some of the best food we've eaten. It was so good we ate there 2 days in a row.
The food was really good and the service was great! We would not have known about this place but the ad at the Fossil Rim park is what got us there!
Took my family from out of state here after church the six of us enjoyed it so much. Definitely can’t wait to come back the rib basket was amazing and I have had a lot of ribs in my time and these were as good as any I’ve ever had
Our first visit and was very pleased and comforting. Plenty of space, good people and awesome BBQ (meat was so tender) endless sauce, endless paper towels and sides were plentiful and homemade! The sweet tea was just right! 👍Owner/cook came to our table to check in on us.💛 Good small talk, small town atmosphere, loved the hundreds of license plates and old farm tools!
We stopped on our way back from Fossil Rim Wildlife because we was super hungry. This place is amazing. Jan was our waitress and she was a super sweetheart. Everything was DELICIOUS. We had ribs and my son had a cheeseburger that he swallowed in 2.2 seconds. He said it was just that good. Annnnd the potato salad was a hit too. Please stop by if you are ever in Glen Rose, you will not be disappointed.
We stopped here halfway home from a LONG round trip, tired & starving. BEST food (melt-in-your-mouth brisket), fast service, friendly staff, wonderful waitress. Sad now that we have nothing nearly as good at home.
Just old school good bbq, no gourmet bs just bbq cooked right, and excellent service
My family and I loved the food. I was worried their would be only fast food in the area. This was a star shinning on the map. We order 20 minutes before close and I was worried about the food quality, but my family needed food. The meats were juicy and flavorful. The sides (coleslaw, potato salad, fries, onion rings) were awesome. The Bbq sauce was homemade. It tasted tangy and a little spicy, really finger licking good. We cant wait to enjoy again.
I had to slice brisket dinner plate. It was fantastic. I haven’t been to Hammond’s in about 15 years but they’ve been open since 1966 and if you taste your food, you’ll know why.
Hammond's is the best BBQ in the area. We are a family of five and we all get different things, therefore, we have tried almost everything on the menu. The pulled pork is AH-MAZING! Make sure you ask for the pork sauce...no matter what meat you get. It's like a spicy, vinegar BBQ sauce.
I really like Hammond's They've got great brisket. Other BBQ contenders would probably taste different, or maybe even better, but Hammond's holds their own. Good onion rings too.
Came all the way to Glen Rose to give this place a try, and let me say it is absolutely delicious. I had a pretty big to-go order and our cashier Addison handled it perfectly! Everyone there was very kind and sweet and the food was some of the best BBQ I’ve had in a long time! Definitely recommend it for anyone who likes great service along with great food.
My kids don't usually like barbecue places. My husband and I love them and go to them all the time. We are in town for Fossil Rim Nature Preserve and have been hearing lots of good things about Hammond's. So we decided that the kids could just deal and come with us to another barbecue place. Well they ate so much food that they were all complaining about how full they were! They absolutely loved the food! We got to meet the owner. He was the sweetest man ever! We will definitely be back! Our only negative was that our server was not very experienced. She did not check on us very often. She gave us the check right away before we even had a chance to order dessert. We ended up ordering dessert and it was delicious! We tried the peach cobbler, the blackberry cobbler and the pecan pie 10 out of 10 on all three! I loved the loaded potato with chopped brisket! So so delicious! My kids devoured their ribs! Hopefully next time I come in our sweet server will have a little more training. Will check on us more. Will clear garbage off of our table more often and will fill up our drinks more often. Other than that, everything else was amazingly perfect!
A friendly place with lots of great food. The Brisket was melt in your mouth perfect. Great staff and owner took the time to chat with us. We obviously looked a little out of place as tourist from New Zealand, and they made us feel very welcome. Great Texas hospitality.
This was a great place for our huge party. We took up 4 tables and they had room to accommodate the lot of us. They didn't let multiple tickets bother them and the food was delivered hot, fresh, and fast. A loaded baked potato with a generous portion of chopped brisket in top was less than 9 dollars. Definitely will return. And they had the Rangers playoff game on the TV.
Oh my goodness, the brisket was so delicious! Ask for moist.
The parking lot was packed at noon on Sunday so we figured we were going to wait a long time. Wrong! Our party of 6 got seated, placed orders, and served fast. Don't get scared away by the crowd.
This is the best bbq in all of DFW! Don’t expect anything fancy; it’s an old school, seat yourself establishment. But do expect the best sliced brisket, fried okra, and potato salad you’ve ever had!
After passing by Hammond for the last 3 or 4 years we finally pulled into try the barbecue. They're barbecue is awesome It is the best around The ribs are some of the best I've ever had. The brisket was lean, the sausage was awesome. We tried potato salad, fried okra and coleslaw all very very good. We had the peach cobbler and a buttermilk pie while a little pricey they were big helpings and The buttermilk pie was some of the best I ever had. If you're wanting good barbecue let me correct that excellent barbecue it is well worth the 15-minute drive to Glen Rose you will not be disappointed.
I eat there about a month ago and ordered something along the lines of a 2 meat plate..I asked for Brisket sliced lean and sausage.. The Brisket didn’t have a bit of fat on it and was just excellent..The sausage was excellent as well..My sides had a great taste..The service was great..The sweet tea was very well mixed..Everything was perfect and I would love to go back again..
Wow - BBQ was excellent since my last visit. Brisket was cooked perfect. Coleslaw beans and potato salad were A+. So glad I visited.
Really good bbq. Got a brisket plate and 2 sides. Brisket had just enough smoke and was nice and moist without any fat. The sides were relly good too. And dont forget the pies, homemade and very good.
We were passing through town & stopped in. Had the chopped beef & pulled pork with sides of pinto beans & corn nuggets. Also had pecan pie for dessert! Oh my!!
Went here for lunch today and it was so good!! The restaurant was clean and pleasant, and the food and service were great. I would definitely go back.
Hammond BBQ in Glen Rose Tx is a must dine in experience, super great food, desserts, family place, cool decor, historic creds. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. Will definitely return.
Saw advertisements for this place at Fossil Rim Wildlife Park, so we decided to give it a try after, and it did not disappoint! Got the combo dinner plate with chopped beef, hot links, and sausage; all the meats were extremely delicious and full of flavor all on their own, but the sauce was also too good not to use. Service was super fast and friendly, and lots of cool vintage signs and license plates all over the walls to look at. When people rave about Texas BBQ, this is one of the places they're talking about.
1000% will be back. Great service, food and atmosphere!!! It was our first time there and the food was incredible!! Fall off the bone ribs, melt in your mouth brisket and the jalapeno cheese sausage had just the right kick.
What we ordered was all so great tasting. The part of Texas we are from, the BBQ is not so great. Bomb BBQ sauce as well. We do not have the Jalapeño sausage, and it was reeeeal nice, and the brisket was the best. Sides perfectly cooked. Our server, I did not get his name but he was professional and got the order right. The atmosphere for me was a little open, some booth areas would be great (if that makes sense). Overall 10 out of 10. We would drive 3 and half hours to eat here again. Hit some antique shops afterwards. ;) keep up the great business.🤩
Great Brisket and Turkey. Their Mac and Cheese is one of my favorites. They have a good Elotes Corn as well. Price for quantity is good. Friendly staff and great service. Will be back again.
Loved their brisket. It was melt in the mouth tender..best brisket ever had...turkey was also nice.
What a great place. My fiance and I went recently and the staff was awesome. The owner came over and said hello to every guest. He was very nice. The 'dillo eggs are a MUST have. The brisket and jalapeno sausage were very good. It's also the best fried okra I've had from ANY restaurant. If you're in Glen Rose stop by this amazing place. Down home and friendly.
Excellent lunch today!!! Food and service both a 10/10!!
This place has some amazing food. My wife and son got the stuffed baked potato. They were very pleased with it. I got the mixed plate, brisket and sausage, with Cole slaw and potato salad. Excellent food. My sides could have used a little salt, but I know how to work a salt shaker. This is a place if I'm within 25 miles I'll stop by.
I just had a fantastic lunch with friends here. My brisket was very moist and super tender. The bark on my brisket was perfect. Overall a super meal.
Good food and fair prices. Normally get the kids plate. Perfect size for lunch. Get the fried okra. Darn good.
This was a drive by decision but best decision ever. I got a chopped beef sandwich with fries & hubby got brisket & sausage plate & both were amazing. The BBQ sauce has a great flavor. The decor is neat with used license plates, tin walls & red picnic bench tables. Wait staff is extremely friendly. Definitely will return!
I like a little fat on my sliced brisket & they always come through with the perfect amount of goodness attached to my brisket! The jalapeño cheddar sausage was amazing BUT that cole slaw was hands down the BEST item on my plate! Perfection at its best!!! Great service, great atmosphere & great prices to match the well served portions!
Got a big ol sliced beef sandwich from there today. Good flavor, good value. My first time there but won’t be my last!
Spent the week in the area and saw this place as we passed by. Smelled good so we stopped in. Delicious food, an amazing server, reasonable prices. Even with my celiac, they had menu options for me. We had the baked potato with pulled pork plate, brisket and pulled pork plate and great onion rings. We also had their pecan pie and the peanut butter pie (it looked so good I forgot to grab the photo before trying it—oops!) Glad we stopped in!
The food is great. They may focus on BBQ but they don't ignore the quality on the side dishes. Don't pass on dessert. In fact I would go just for the desserts.
First, $150 for 5 people, including a 34% tip. A multi-meat, 2 side, and bread plate is $20. We had HALF our meat leftover we were so full!! For starters we ordered the Dillo Nuggets. Think corn nuggets but with jalapeño and bacon! Divine!!!! I'll be coming back JUST for them. I got smoked bologna, hot links, and jalapeño cheese sausage. I bet I got 1/2 lb of each. All the meats were delicious. The elote style corn was good, and I'm pretty sure it was grilled based on the char on some kernels. The mac and cheese was typical restaurants style, but for sure had real cheese as you could see the cheese pull. Hubs got Pulled pork and sausage. Both were delicious (and he isn't big on sausage) his exact words: I'll probably have heartburn later, but worth it! I don't know yet how the brisket Mac is as we're taking it home to the kid.
Uh, hello kinda hidden gem! I'm a coffee person, but now, I might be more serious about texas bbq & brisket. This was advertised at Fossil Rim and I was definitely hungry! Read reviews and landed in the parking lot pretty quickly. We went at an off-peak time so there was no wait. This isn't counter service. We immediately sat at out table and got to ordering and our food was served quickly after that. The reviews weren't wrong! The brisket was juicy! I appreciate that I got to choose if I wanted marbled or lean. Our waitress was amazing and friendly and I can't wait to return!
Excellent BBQ! I was hoping to find some nice Texas BBQ while visiting. Open since 1966! Portions are as great as the price. I had the "child size bbq plate" for like $10 and it was a nice size unch! The ribs were so satisfying. The staff were so nice. It was very busy about 1:30p on a Saturday but worth it.
We stopped in for a big BBQ spread and walked away seriously impressed. The brisket and ribs were the stars—tender, smoky, and packed with flavor. Fried okra was perfectly crispy and clearly fresh, and the potato salad nailed that perfect creamy-tangy balance. Other sides like mac & cheese and elotes were solid, but the main hits stole the show. Service was fast, friendly, and welcoming—exactly what you hope for in a small-town BBQ joint. If you’re near Glen Rose, Hammond’s is absolutely worth the stop.
I popped by after doing the tour at Fossil Rim Wildlife Center. It was my first visit to Glen Rose and I decided to give this a try on my way back to Fort Worth. They were about 30 minutes from close so I took it to go and enjoyed it at a local picnic spot before getting back in the road. The brisket was flavorful and tender. Very tasty, even before adding their bbq sauce. The portions were generous on both the brisket and the sides. The staff was super friendly and gladly helped me get a to-go order together quickly. I will definitely go again when in Glen Rose.
Bar far the best barbecue we had on our trip to Texas. The walls were decorated with cute signs and memorabilia. The tables are red picnic tables. Our waitress was fabulous. She helped us decide what to order. I had a chopped brisket filled baked potato. My husband had a sample plate. Absolutely everything on the plate was delicious, but we both agreed the chopped brisket was the best. I was stuffed, but my husband ordered the apple cobbler with ice cream. It was served hot and tasted like it was made by my grandma. Best lunch in a long time. So glad we stopped!
Fantastic! I enjoyed the generous brisket plate with potato salad, fried okra, fresh sliced onion, pickle and fresh oven butter-baked bread. I asked for the barbecue sauce on the side. It was absolute heaven! The service, I can’t say enough about the servers. They were all hustling. I had my meal in less than three minutes. I had my water and half-and-half within one minute of the waitress taking my order. I don’t know that I’ve ever had any service like that anywhere else. If you are hungry, not only will this food satisfy you and your appetite, but you will find it remarkably fresh, delicious and very quick. I stopped there on a business trip. I will go out of my way to go through Glen Rose again to patronize this BBQ. I would say Hammond’s ranks right up there in the top 10 of BBQ joints I’ve had in Texas, no joke, just perfect!
Had the rib plate here, and while I've definately had worse there are a couple of improvements that could be made. A couple of the ribs were pretty dry, probably end pieces that could have stood to not be used. Also the char or smoke flavour was a bit overpowering, I couldn't quite put my finger on it but it was almost as if I was tasting lighter fluid a bit but not sure if that is used here. I know there was black stuff when I wiped my hands on a napkin. The okra was great. Overall good food, will be back to try their other meats but probably not order the ribs again.
I've been gling here for the past 4 years..Great stop, cool venue, nice staff.... I had the baked potato loaded, with sliced brisket... They gave me slices from the point, which produced good texture, moisture and bark... A very solid BBQ spot.... If you want to be impressed, stay away from the sides, just get the brisket and ribs [not the sausage]
I'm old, so I expect old style smoking from an aged establishment such as this. "Pit BBQ!" RIBS! The best would be the 'Goal Post' in Anniston, AL. Closed now. The full spare rib slab is deeply smoked with a firm bite of meat cleanly, leaving the bone. I love the crunch and chew of the grizzle. The deep smoked flavor in the fat and membrane. That is as good as it gets. So. I read the reviews; I listened to the locals. I was excited to try "Hammonds." Sorry, I am disappointed. The ribs are *^!#%$< St. Louis cut ribs. The ribs are pre-boiled. Pre-boiling is so sad to a true smoker. These were so boiled that the grizzle was over tender. Boiling also cooks the meat, so the smoky bite I desire is blocked from getting into the bite. The meat pulls off the bone, but it still leaves meat on the bone. Spare ribs versus St. Louis style ribs mean none of the good grizzle or tremendous meat that comes with this rib. St. Louis might be for the dainty, but I want the old style smoked rib. Very little bite of grizzle was available. I hate boiled meat. Needless to say, I even grill my chucks. So, the only place to get true smoked ribs is still at home. The reason for 3-stars... The fried okra was really good. Thanks. The staff and atmosphere were great too.
Not the best of service. A single to-go order of a BBQ sandwich took about 15 min. Not sure of the delay. The sandwich was good and the sauce too. The okra was lacking salt and flavor. Sweet tea was great. I was greeting right away and helped shortly after. I visited mid afternoon and it was not busy. Overall, I think I paid to much for a basic lunch with slow service to go. $17 is a bit on the high side for a tea, chopped brisket sandwich, and small side of okra. May go back, may not. Nothing stood out to me.
Ordered ala carte, sliced beef sandwich( great) and an order of onion rings… paid 3.99 for the onion rings. I received 4 rings!!! We all know onions are inexpensive and the batter doesn’t cost that much either…so why a dollar per ring??
Today was our first time here. The brisket, sausage, turkey and ham where all good, but the sauce was a little too sweet for what we are used to in Houston. The price certainly seemed high as well. We ate two deluxe plates, three child plates, everyone had drinks and then we split peach cobbler, blackberry cobbler and chocolate creme pie, which came to $100 after the tip.
I love their marbled brisket. However, having a craving for a burger and whataburger closed for remodeling, I made this big mistake. A hamburger from Hammonds. It was a boiled, flavorless paddie with soft, soggy flavorless bread. Please remove this option from your menu before someone else's has a ruined evening.
The food is always great. I usually get the turkey and it never disappoints, brisket always great, side are good. This last visit the service was severely lacking. It was not busy. Sat there for over 10 min not even acknowledged. Ordered then had to find the waitress and ask for silverware and the rest of our food. Not sure what was going on with her.
If you're looking for decent BBQ you might want to skip this place. Seems they reheat and serve you extremely dried out brisket. Servers were friendly and the place was clean, and that was pretty much it. Unfortunately the girls never came back to check on us after they brought the food to our table, so couldn't even say anything about how mediocre the food was. The place didn't even smell of smoked BBQ when you walk in, so that should've been my first sign of things to come. If you're looking for food in the Glen Rose area, skip this place and head over to the Mexican restaurant down the street, on the same side of the road. At least their stuff is palatable.
Ohhhh where to start... well the brisket was so dry I almost choked trying to get it down and had ZERO bark it's like they cut it off or don't know how to smoke a brisket correctly... the sides were mediocre added salt to the beans and green beans the waitress Britt made the experience manageable but if you're a brisket person like I am I'd say pass on this place check my other reviews I've been to some of the best spots in Texas
Man what a huge disappointment todays dinner was. We have been coming to hammonds for a very long time and have never ever had a bad bbq plate or service. Today I received both. I ordered the rib basket as always with a baked potato. Ribs were cold to the touch and my potato was not fully cooked. We only saw the waitress 1 time after receiving my food, I told here I was very surprised the ribs were cold as I’ve always had great experience. She explains they have new cooks and would microwave the ribs for me. I made the mistake and told her that’s fine. When she brought the back out they were smoldering hot and way over cooked chewy at this point. Just smiled and said thank you. As I go up to pay for my meal the lady at the cashier desk was sucking on a sucker and never asked me how I was doing or how my food was which they ALWAYS do but not this time. I’m not the one to raise a problem but I would have explained to her my frustration today. $60 we spent and not a soul asked us how we were doing or how the food was. Guess we will not drive 45 minutes Ike way to go to Hammonds anymore. Sad deal I’ve loved this place the last 30 times I’ve been here and 1 bad experience can ruin it for life. So weird not a soul checked on us but 1 time, never even came back to see if the ribs were better.
I dont typically do this. But this is not a your everyday Texas BBQ joint. First off it doesn't even smell like they are cooking .I cant think of a BBQ hpuse I've ever been to I didnt stand in line and give my order. Here, you dont. You sit down to a laminated menu with about 10 items on it. I got a. Burger that was worse than Sonic. Cold okra. Sour sweet tea. Look, I call it like I see it. I love Glen Rose and the surrounding counties. This was a terrible experience. I wished id spent my 21 bucks else where.
We spent $55 for our ribs and brisket to come out cold and dry. It tasted like it was made yesterday and microwaved. Even the bone was cold, so it was definitely in the fridge. The server was very friendly and attentive.
Let me start by saying the waitress, Brittany, was fantastic. She was polite and greeted us with a warm smile. The atmosphere was rustic and fun. On to the food. Where are these people getting "melt in your mouth brisket" from? This was the most dry and flavorless brisket I have ever had. I ordered lean as usual and requested specifically that the fat not be cut off, but that's what I got. My coworker ordered moist, guess what, his fat was cut off too. They don't know what they're doing as far as the brisket goes. His moist looked exactly like my lean. Like the cutter didn't know what to do and grabbed both of our orders from the store bought Jack Daniel's brisket you reheat in the microwave. I will not be coming back here, go to Sonic down the street. You will get better food there. The okra was OK, the coleslaw not so much. Do better, be better. That is all....
