This is a small Brewery located maybe not in the most fun area however definitely worth a visit if you like craftbeer. The small size makes it very friendly and you can easily talk to the guys behind the beer, not only behind the bar. If you ask nicely they might invite you in the back to check out where they brew their magic juice. Forget about Brooklyn Brewery, if you want a real craftbeer experience this is the place to visit in NYC!

I love this kind of places. Simple, not crowded, laid back. Just serves beer, no food other than a few snacks. But they let you bring your own food. Beers are very good, and let you taste them so you can find the best that suits you very easily. Hope to visit them multiple times this summer

A modern day Long Island City original. Rockaway was the first brewery to open up in the neighborhood, ever since then it has inspired at least four of the major breweries to open and make a Long Island City the capital of New York City’s craft brewing industry. Rockaway is unique in that it has a local cult following, the range of brews are varied, ranging from high gravity IPAs to creative pilsners. Prior to the pandemic, this was one of the places to find and meet interesting locals (LIC has plenty tucked away). Since the pandemic, Rockaway has significantly invested in it’s canning capacity, making it more practical for folks to enjoy their favorite brews at home (growlers we’re available prior to the pandemic but you’ll need to check before hand if they support it today). Moreover, this is a great place to meet friends or pick up beers on the way to another gathering. Regarding beers, staples are the ESB (extra special better), the Rockway IPA, and (when available) the Hawaiian Pizza IPA. Most importantly, the staff is extremely friendly. They are a real pleasure to engage with and will always see you as a neighbour. I’m especially excited for Rockaway to resume live performances, which, along with a creative label artist, weekend food trucks and bus trips to the original facility in deep queens, has made for a well balanced establishment.

Great place to have a beer. Laid back and casual. Very close to the water/park so a good stop on the way. You can also buy beer to take home. Overall friendly staff that are always happy to help you find the right pour.

Great local brewery with great selection of beer and some quality rye and bourbon

The beer here is good, but the vibe is the real reason to go here. The bartender is super friendly and from time to time, he will be working on an experimental brew, which he is happy to talk to you about. Love this place and it is definitely my first stop whenever I brewery crawl through Long Island City (which is becoming a little slice of beer heaven)!

R
Ron Lai

Definitely a fun place to be for a brew, or to refill your growlers. I had the pleasure of stopping in for a night of fun with some folks. We got to meet and tour the facility behind the tasting room. I'm told you can do a tour of the local breweries in one go, as they have a card prepared for that type of thing. Definitely worthwhile weekend trip to plan out. There's certainly a brew on tap, either seasonal or core product that will satisfy any palate.

Holy Nitro Batman No.. I am not lost from the beach.. they told me so... And the beer is the digs!! Super heady Stout

The original LIC brewery with room for a handful of people never disappoints! Having lived here for five years this place is still at the top of my list and still delivers the best beer while facing stiff and genuine competition. Period. End of review... 🍻

Small business with decent selection of beers. All beers are made in-house. The service was good and the beer + shot combo (rye or bourbon) was good. I recommend this location for after work hangouts with your guy friends and/or coworkers.

B
Brian Staresnick

Great rotating beer selection with new brews coming out on a regular basis. The atmosphere is super low key. The staff is really friendly, and usually a good locals place to drink. Free tours of the brewery throughout the week.

Just popped in to the rock away on our way back to the Wyndham gardens hotel.Wish I had found this little gem earlier in our stay at lic, excellent beers to try, it was a sweet shop , bar man was informative , sorry can not remember his name( a big guy with dreads ) and the lady that was promoting a locally produced whisky, great friendly people, this is what crafted ales are all about , keep up the great tradition of local brewing , the big boys( Brewers )can't compete. Sorry to keep banging on but any body that loves the real ale scene this is a must see, must taste, rustic USA brewery.

Had the ESB, which was fantastic. Also met Brownie who is an absolute unit. 10/10 cat.

Great place. A little less refined and more grungy than "other" queens breweries, but closer to Manhattan and much more friendly bar staff. Really good, welcoming vibe. Oh, and did I mention...the beer is outstanding!!

D

Love this place and their beers. Very friendly staff. Not on the "hop bomb" side of things, but greats brews and place to hang out or just relax after work for a few brews! UPDATE: They're rocking the IPA game lately.

Sweet spot in LIC. Ended up playing a game of Battleship (they have boardgames) and doing a sampler for 4 of their brews. Nice spot to stop between Vernon Street and Gantry Plaza State Park if out for the day. Recommend if in the area!

Great NYC brewery and also very close to 4 other breweries. Great vibe and good beer, what more do you want?

Real good neighborhood brewery. When it’s nice weather, they have pop-up taco on the side. Also good place to grab a to-go cup, and listen to some nice live music across the street. Has indoor area too, but outside with nice weather is where you want to sit

My girlfriend and I love to visit breweries whenever we travel. Rockaway was definitely one of our favorites in NY. They have a great selection of beer to choose from, very helpful and friendly staff. Even Brownie the cat made sure everyone was happy. 🐈

We stumbled in here and had a great time! The beers were excellent and they had plenty of variety. Seth was behind the bar and gave us awesome recommendations. He put a lot of care into the cocktails and they were DELICIOUS. Pop up food was amazing. We will be back!!

We came here after the LIC Flea. It was a blast. First of all, a flight is enough to give you a nice buzz. So my two friends and I had the ingenious idea to share two flights. It was more than enough. The staff is great. They have excellent deals on growlers. They also have free cape cod chips. Dogs are allowed too. Their tour is very informative and not much of a walking tour as a narrative into their process and the source of their ingredients. Fun times. Can't wait to get another group together to visit and try some different beers. They use Square for payments.

T

I’ve been an LIC resident for 4 years and Rockaway stands alone as my favorite brewery in New York City. The best beer, (the Rockaway IPA is outstanding) great regulars, and a small town feel made possible by a tremendous staff. A recent, extremely vague, review depicts a favorite bartender in an unfairly bad light. This review, posted by Anna Kim, criticizes a bartender who is consistently conscientious, friendly, and attentive. This bartender is a friend of many regulars at Rockaway and I, for one, make an effort to drink at Rockaway on nights when she is behind the bar. This review is unfair, lacks substance, and flies in the face of how this bartender is known to her community. Let’s support our local bartenders not the rude patrons who think they own the place!

This not the old Rockaway. This is now the absolute premier brewery in NYC. Go have a pint and see for yourself. It is absolutely incredible.

Had a great time at Rockaway this past weekend. We were planning a brewery tour in honor of our pup who passed away and Allister + team offered the upstairs for our group of 25. Great beer and a great spot!

R

I live one block from Rockaway Brewing go there several times a week. Really good craft beer. I make by own beer when I'm in Pennsylvania, because I like the craft beer taste. When I'm in New York this brewery is great for me. Actually their beer tastes much better than I can make. Love that 1875 ale. This place is crowded on the weekends, but all good people that come to put their elbows on the bar. If you like craft beer you'll enjoy this brewery.

Just spent 5 days in New York, stumbled across this place when exploring the nearby park on a rainy afternoon. I was made to feel very welcome and came back every evening during my trip. The beer they brew here is amazing , the Hawaiian Pizza IPA is out of this world. In fact they are all good beers. Locals were friendly and amusing, and of course there is Brownie the resident cat, who oversees the place.

A great and chill brewery in LIC near the waterfront park. Plenty of outside seating and a nice sized draft list to sample! Also, very pup friendly.

R
Ricardo Fernandez

Great beers, nice place to enjoy with friends, prices are reasonable, service is hipster and cool, plenty of space, everyone is chill, clean restrooms, low key place with industrial vibe, would definitely go back when in LIC

I’ve been wanting to try out the breweries in LIC and this one was definitely my favorite out of 5th hammer and iconyc. Both of the latter just felt a bit uninviting and a lot of their beer options were out of stock. The bartender I had a couple of Saturdays ago, sorry I forgot her name but she was of Asian decent I believe, at Rockaway was very welcoming and quite knowledgeable. It was incredibly packed at one point, line out the door, and she handled it like a champ on her own with a smile for almost two hours straight without breaking a sweat. Big props to her. The bartender that came after her seemed a bit frazzled and didn’t know how to pour beer properly. Unfortunately she wasn’t as hospitable. I highly recommend the Rocktoberfest (probably the best octoberfest beer I’ve had thus far) and Hawaiian Pizza IPA. There’s no pizza or pineapple in it just fyi hahaha. Alas, the best part about this brewery is the cat, Brownie. He makes his presence known by stoically sitting at the bar as 7 phones are in his face taking photos. Myself included. I will definitely be coming back.

The beer is decent, and the bartenders are friendly. The tap room is small, but it has a quaint feeling and makes you feel as though you're in good company.

Solid lineup of tasty beers, served up in an intimate brewery space on a cool corner location in LIC. While you're here, check across the street to see if there's live music at Plaxall... they often serve up those tasty Rockaway brews too.

Still going strong in LIC, long may it prosper. Stalwart flagships and a delightful rotation of new brews every season. Bartenders are rad, and the space is cool without trying to be. An ideal brewery.

Fun spot that’s been here a while. Good selection of takeaway cans and a neighborhood feel makes his a fun low key spot. Excellent that they do small sized pours and also flights. Solid rotation of beers all the time. Enjoyed the saison and esb.

My wife and I were on the end of a long trip through the US leaving via NYC. We’d done the sightseeing in NYC before, so I had a couple of breweries picked out to relax and chill. Rockaway popped up in my research as a must do. Really thankful for Ben’s hospitality and enthusiasm as he talked us through all the brews that were currently on tap. I pretty much went through the tap list minus a couple of dark beers (which I’m not normally a fan of anyway) and every drop was excellent, highlights were the Hawaiian Pizza IPA which (Ben said this was a customer favourite and I can see why) and the Koji Kid sour colab with Japanese brewer Choryo Brewery. Before we left, a customer came in with a best boy so we scored some puppy pats as the icing on the cake. Dog friendly breweries are always a winner.

Chris M
Chris M

Loved the atmosphere! Exactly what one would expect from a brewery located in Queens. The selection was diverse. I had the Hawaiian pizza and Variation IPA. They were both fruit forward. While the HP seemed to be the locals favorite I actually preferred the Variation (v4).

You’ve heard of bodega cats but have you heard of a BREWERY CAT?! This place has a great selection of beer and great bar trivia on Thursdays! Indoor & outdoor seating with occasional local food vendors

Cool and popular brewery in Long Island City, across the street from Culture Lab LIC, two blocks from Gantry Plaza State Park. Best place to come if you just miss the ferry, don't hesitate and go for a beer! Outdoor seating by the entrance and around the corner. Cozy indoor room, not too big though, it can get quite busy.

Came to see Brownie, stayed for the taste. Could use more snack options. Time your visit with their visiting food trucks to round out the experience.

It's nice to find a Brewery that's open in the early afternoon and fills crowlers & growlers. There may not be much as regards to seating or the restrooms this Brewery merits a visit especially if one is visiting Gantry State Park. While ESB (Extra Sour Bitter) is a reliable go-to choice, the Power Lunch (Porter) is another good option. Usually a when a beer exhibits a dark color like a stout it has a heavy body. Power Lunch drinks like a pale ale. Please note that growlers are only filled weekdays as it can get busy on weekends.

I live by their Rockaway Beach location but last night I went right to the source and was not disappointed. The beer was great as always and the atmosphere is great. The owners as well as the staff are always willing to talk and are very knowledgeable about the product. If you are in the area do not hesitate. Just go! Tell Marcus and Ethan hi for me.

I had the opportunity to visit this taproom a couple of weeks ago, and my evening there was a highlight of my trip to New York. My wife and I only intended to have "a couple" before moving on to another bar, but had such a great time we stayed until closing. I tried 4 different beers, all of which tasted excellent, notably the ESB. But what really made it special was how friendly the bar was, even though Brownie was being aloof and enigmatic 😀. Jessica was running the bar and looked after us superbly, making us feel totally welcome, and one of the regular patrons also went out of his way to get us joining in with the vinyl night - I hope Def Leppard was an acceptable choice! Thanks to Jessica and everyone at Rockaway.

Nicole Kim

This brewery is a bit divey and smaller compared to other breweries nearby. The bartender was very friendly and even gave us additional beer to try even after getting 3 shorts. I love how there’s a cat on the counter that just freely roams around and just chills in the box right by the heater. This brewery definitely feels like a neighborhood bar that people frequently visit for a beer to enjoy.

Steven Nielson

Really cool spot with a great brewery cat and amazing happy hour during the week. $10 beer and shot combo is the way to go with Jaywalker rye a local New York rye that's fantastic paired with your choice of beer. Outside seating is amazing and plentiful. It's not other half level beer but they do a good job, the pineapple pizza IPA was particularly good.

Stephanie Davila

This cozy neighborhood brewery may have a small indoor space, but the outdoor seating makes it a great spot to relax when the weather is nice. The staff is always friendly and welcoming, creating a laid-back, local vibe. They offer a rotating selection of beers, plus rosé and non-alcoholic options for variety. The real star, though, is Brownie the cat, who adds charm and personality as he lounges near the bar. I come here often—it’s one of my favorite breweries in the area.

I'm so HAPPY I came across Rockaway Brewing Company. I was at Gantry State Park enjoying the sunset, taking some pictures, and taking in the beautiful views when I decided to walk back to the subway station. Fortunately I bumped into RBC on my way back and was exactly the vibe I needed. The seating area indoors is not too big and not too small, but just right. The place was very welcoming, crowd down to earth, and the bartender very friendly. I had two beers - Who Let the Frogs Out (IPA) and the American Pils. Both fantastic!! 🍺 🍺 And above all, there is a brewery CAT! His name is Brownie and he practically runs the place. 😺 I can't wait to come back here very soon!

Silvestre Bravo

All I ask is to understand they brew well. The flavors are on point everything is great and the service is great too. If you're on lighter flavors my place for you. There are heavy flavors too as for the porter. Didn't try the food...

Kevin Krause
Kevin Krause

Our favorite hangout spot in the neighborhood. There is a solid draft menu and a few bottle/can options also. There is usually a rotating food vendor cooking next store also, but you can bring in DoorDash/etc too. The bartenders are good and the cat (Brownie) is super friendly!

A
Andrew Bieber (Cycling Cicerone)

Avoid this place on hot days. It's single tiny air conditioner can't keep the heat and humidity from the brewery in check, so it's sweltering inside. Beer is good, especially the ESB. Nearby to other breweries in the area, so a great addition to a bike and brew circuit. Cycling Cicerone approved.

S
Splinter Droid

We rented the upstairs party/Kareoke room. Quite private and as upscale as we needed (which was zero). They left us alone, we bought drinks downstairs and carried them up ourselves. Perfectly low key.

R
Riva Heath

Out of the 3 microbreweries I've visited in LIC, this is the least aesthetically pleasing, with uncomfortable, spartan furniture, cracked tiles & quite a bit of dirt. The beer menu probably has the least choice too, but what is served is really good. The service is fine, and overall it's just a seriously chilled out scene. If you like grimy, no fuss or frills, just all about the beer type watering holes, this place is for you. However what's a little disappointing is that the prices don't reflect the lack of care or effort in the interior design / barware - it's not the cheapest of the 3 breweries, despite the cheap atmosphere. Still, it's the closest of the 3 to the ferry, the water & the food market. And most importantly, it's dog friendly :)

T
Tyler Lund

An awesome neighborhood microbrewery with a small tap room. The tap room is basically in the brewery and you can see all the equipment. The staff is super friendly and loves to talk about the beer and give free tours. They even give out free bags of chips. The beer is good, but doesn't go much beyond IPAs and stouts. They recently expanded, so hopefully they will expand their offerings soon as well. Go for the flight which at $7 is a steal.

M
Matthew Albert

Cool little hangout space. The beer is good, and they have a nice variety. The space is small and no frills. They have a really cool collection of old school beer cans on the walls, which can be a lot of fun to look through if you grew up with a relative who was loyal to a brand like Shlitz, Shaefer, or Genessee. Staff is nice, and the beer is not overpriced, water fountain open to the room, so no need to ask the bar for a glass.

J
Joe Vigna

Great beer selection they had couple of IPAs that I am big fan that I haven’t had before. I had 2 8 oz glasses and took home a 64 oz Growler. Of one of them. After a day and of course some drinking I forgot the names but you go anyway and see if you enjoy the place as much as I did.

C
Chris Himberger

Friendly staff. Great place to have a flight (4oz for 7) or two. Some of the beers were pretty tasty. Good small spot in the back for a quick brewery tour if you have never done before.

R
Robert Garcia

This review is specifically focused on the bar area. We did not go on a tour. The main room could use some more seating and better tables (you have only the bar or a strip of wood along the wall). The beer was very good, however, and the place deserves a visit if you are in the area.

B
Bogdan Kulik

Nice hip brewery. The beer is decent. It's a little pricey if you compare to bottled major imported brands, but this is the story with all micro-breweries. i really like the availability of outside sitting, I'm glad we have them in LIC.

M
Marco Roberto Cavallari

Good local beer. I recommend trying all of them as in this picture. Personally, I liked both the Irish style, the IPA, the original and the lightest one.

S
Soo Jin Park

Good selection of tasteful beers. Small indoors but they have some outdoor seating available (though not plentiful). They have a cat that’s super cute and friendly. Dog-friendly. I typically grab a beer and walk across 46th Ave to Culture Lab, where they’d oftentimes be hosting live music late afternoon/early evenings.

C
Carly Squires

Good beer, good spot. They have good staff working there. Could use a little more seating downstairs on a busy night but it’s a small spot so also understandable. It’s a great spot to hang out with friends to grab a good beer. The best part is probably the dogs that role through and brownie the cat.

J
Jen D

Awesome welcoming tap room with friendly staff. Great selection of beer for all.

A
Adam D

The beers are pretty solid, but none are really my cup of tea. Then again I like specific types of beer and don't necessarily appreciate every style, so it could just be me. The taproom is pretty bare bones. It is cool looking but very hot and humid. You couldn't put your bag or anything on the floor, for example. You could bring your dog in though. It is usually a little lively but not crowded. The staff is nice always. I have purchased their to-go beers multiple times, and I do like the Empire State signature cans. Again, all around solid, and depending on your beer tastes, maybe stellar.

C
Chris Albanese

Awesome local brewery. The layout is great with a large bar area. They usually have the standard styles on tap and then a bunch of more unique beers that change regularly. You also get a bag of chips with every beer and they sometimes have a food cart kinda thing serving food inside.

C
Christoffer Jakobsen

Busy taproom with 10 rotating draft beers, served as 4/8/16oz pours. Growlers, crowlers, 4-packs of cans, plus a few bottles available to go. They also serve a New York State cider and van Brunt Bourbon and Rye. Merch includes things like t-shirts, glasses, and a cooler bag. Dog friendly!

K

Some nice tasty beers here but the Oat IPA was incredible. Guy working at the bar was friendly. Metal music playing was not my taste though. And it really is kind of a hole in the wall tasting room.

Sammy Kim

Good brew, cozy atmosphere, indoor and outdoor seating available with variety of selections of brew, happy hours price on select brew, BYO Food no non sense brewery! Love their pet cat "Mr Brownie" chilling on counter with his own box ,most of the time. No food available but Argentinaian sausage sandwich and fries counter outside at Brewery garage door side!

A
Andy Guerriero

Very good beer! However, it's an odd stop and at least for the casual craft beer drinker, difficult to enjoy. The taproom is VERY loud, because the employees are blasting music at a volume that causes you to yell to be heard. Sorry, that's not ambiance, that's just annoying. I'm visiting to enjoy beer and chat, not to headbang. I would have stayed much longer and spent more money if the environment had been pleasant.

A

Rockaway Brewing Company offers a lot of beer options in comparison to the other LIC breweries. However, I only enjoyed a few of the beers. I highly recommend getting their stout (Black Gold Stout) and pale ale (1875 Pale Ale). The taproom is nice, large area --- perfect for group/happy hour. There is a food vendor in the front, which I believe serves personal pizza.

More dog friendly than human friendly. Quite frankly I am sick of these places where pets are allowed and stinks of a bear den. 3 stars is generous only because I support independent craft breweries. If you want to keep you fella human customers get rid of the demn dogs! :)

Interesting hole in the wall brewery. The Octoberfest was good. I suggest the flight for $12. Give you a good tasting of the selections.

Small place. Not much done in terms of decor. Very industrial. It may work for some but someone who is looking for a more classy venue , this may not be your place. They have good selection of beers that they brew. I felt the price was slightly higher. I didn't see any food menu though. The place itself will feel crowded if their are more than 50 people. The place is dog friendly. Saw a couple of small dogs and was about to step on them by mistake. I don't think it's a good idea , that if you have a small space to allow for dogs.

Rude female bartender and pretty much small and not cozy village style tap room just for very local people with bunch of dogs. The spot is so small so you basically cheering with dogs. No comfort. Fifth Hummer Brewery a couple minutes away walking is a great place.

I’ve been here twice and each time (with different bartenders) they have been so snobby. The vibe reminded me of wannabe artists but really are just trust-fund babies or D-list celebrities thinking they’re a big deal. Oh….and definitely don’t ask questions let alone have a conversation with any of them. There was a constant resting “don’t bother me” face from anyone working there. I’ve been to many breweries all over the US and this is #1 for the worst vibe/service.
