We stopped in here quite literally by accident while taking in the sites. Close to two major landmarks. Great service by Marcus our server, had great menu recommendations, friendly knowledgeable about the area and history. Our first time trying the famous Hot Brown, and Marcus recommendation of the Derby Pie. Great hot fresh food, everything was amazing. Highly recommend 10/10.
I’m reviewing this before I even leave the restaurant because it was THAT good of an experience. First of all, the location is so convenient and around tons of Louisville attractions. It’s super classy on the inside but not dressy enough that you need to wear a suit and tie to feel comfortable. We had the green chile wontons as an appetizer - no notes, simply perfect, so yummy. My brother and I both had the Woodford Reserve Bacon Grilled Cheese as our entrees (mine with kettle chips and his with fries). Absolutely delicious and just so satisfying - especially the kettle chips, which had the perfect crunch. Our server, Cory, was also so attentive and kind and regularly checked in to make sure we were doing okay. I definitely recommend this place if you’re in the area and looking for a bite!
Visiting from SC. Close to the Louisville slugger factory. This was a hard choice. The menu isn’t large but what they have on it looks so good. I chose the special with grouper today for only $12! Our table also had the salmon, pesto pasta and child’s chicken finger. All of it was delicious!
A very nice place to eat. We stopped in to try the famous Louisville Hot Brown. It did not disappoint. The thick cuts of turkey were tender and flavorful. The sauce was also very good. The Derby pie was still warm when served and has a delicious flavor. The wait staff was friendly and it is in a great location.
Popped into Bristol Bar and Grille for lunch as soon as we hit Louisville for a weekend trip and it was such a nice surprise! Started off with some local Louisville Goodwood Lager and grabbed a few of their Friday Old Fashioned specials. The drinks really hit the spot and got the vibes going 🥃🍻 For lunch, we went with the Bristol Burgers cooked medium and loaded with toppings. They serve them on English Muffins, which was new for us, but super tasty and packed with flavor! Some of the others tried the club and fish sandwiches, and they couldn’t stop talking about how they were the best they've had in years 🍔🐟 Definitely a great spot for a quick, quality meal. The service by Kiesence was super friendly and fast, prices were fair, and we totally recommend checking it out! #BristolBarandGrille #LouisvilleEats #WeekendVibes #FoodieHeaven 😋🍴
The dining area was very quiet during lunch hours but the staff and service were very kind and accommodating to everyone in the building. I wasn't expecting much since we stopped in for a quick lunch. However, I was taken aback by the richness and complex flavors found in the sweet chili linguini. The sweetness is quite rich at first, but combining it with a bite of the savory blackened chicken and the tangy pickled cabbage makes for a heavy and complex flavor profile. It is quite heavy on the stomach, but it is certainly worth it. The black cherry Manhattan was white delicate and balanced with just enough sweetness and little to no ethanol bite that made for a versatile sipping experience worth taking home to replicate. I'd be curious to see how well their dinner service is based solely on how pleasantly surprising the lunch experience was.
I am shocked this place isn’t a 5 star. 5 of us went for lunch. Very reasonable prices, great staff, cool atmosphere, great food. No complaints on anything we were served. Food presentation superb. It was like fine dining food and presentment with 1980’s prices. Definitely worth a try if in the area. Not farm from slugger museum.
Visiting the area for the day and was lucky enough that it was a Friday when they're doing their $5 old fashioned special. Also, the spinach salad is a garlic lover's dream: whole cloves of roasted garlic throughout! Absolutely delicious.
Quiet atmosphere. Food was excellent. Had Pork dinner and “the Brown”. Loved the turkey dinner. And enjoyed a bottle of Riesling with dinner. Server was very attentive.
We are visiting from Florida and the place was packed. They were kind enough to let the entire family sit at the bar. Salmon 🍣 was really and my Hendricks, Tonic and Lime was fantastic. Bar tender was super friendly as well.
After forty years I've never had a dough ball for a wonton. Plus where were the red onions in the black bean soup. I know your great but missed the mark today
Great lunch with 20+ coworkers. Food was good. Service was quick and very efficient. Enjoyed.
Great food, wonderful service, friendly staff, clean! Thanks to the random storm, we found this gem!
The original trend setter in Louisville. Everything about this place is wonderful and the Louisville food scene isn't what it is without the Bristol.
Nice restaurant. Inside or outside seating. Food and service was good.
OMG the greens are absolutely amazing. Like my granny is in the kitchen. Plus the grit cakes to die for. I would suggest this super classy place to any date night couple or even family.
We had a wonderful experience and a great lunch with fantastic service by the bartender. I wish I could remember her name but we were there 2/22/2025 around 1ish and I wanted to give her some kudos. We had the hot brown, our first time, and it was great! We will definitely be back.
I had the hot brown and it was great. Does make a great lunch. My son had the chicken parm sandwich he didn't even need to use his teeth to bite it. He said it was the best and the fried potatoes was also.
Burger Week #3: PB&J Burger: Medium Well, read my mind. Little on the dry side, could not really taste said PB&J, but meat made up for it. They're right about those Wontons! W/ guac is OK, will try with hot sauce nxt time.
Ryan was an attentive server with some great suggestions. Food was outstanding (we love green chile wontons). One of our favorite places for a good meal downtown.
Bristol always delivers regular, dependable service. I eat here three times a week at least. The servers are always great and friendly. Recently, with the new chef, the daily specials have been amazing. Truly some amazing meals. Can’t go wrong here. In fact, one of the best meals I’ve had in awhile was a lobster sauce pasta that was the special awhile back with the new chef. I haven’t seen it since, and I can’t wait for that to come back again and could eat that every day. But you can’t go wrong with anything on the menu. Always worth a stop in for regulars like myself and tourists looking for a good, local spot.
Great experience and will be back when we visit the area again. We went and took advantage of the 1/2 price bottle of wine night. Wine was good and so was our food. Our youngest is picky but gave his food two thumbs up. My burger was perfectly cooked and wife loved the Hot Brown. Kiesence was our server and she was great!
By far THE BEST TASTING MEAL I HAVE HAD since being in Louisville! The place is unassuming low key mellow! Great date spot! The food is absolutely delicious! The drinks are very reasonable and you l know how you go somewhere where the drinks are on special and they give you the lowest tier liquor not here! I had a drink made with Makers mark that was phenomenal!!! Please come here I promise you’ll thank me later! I know first impressions may not show consistency this is my actual second visit. I will be back with my date next time😎
Had lunch, Cobb Salad with Honey Dijon. Shared what I believe was an asparagus fritter. Both were good. Metered street parking available. Bristol is consistent and reliable. Highly recommend.
We always love going to the Bristol. Had a great evening and wonderful food. Our server met all of our needs. Any questions or immediately answered.
I’m giving this place 5 stars all because of Jennifer. After 30 hours with no sleep and driving all night to get to Kentucky, I was greeted by her. Her kindness and contagious smile instantly gave me a boost of energy—just by being herself. I don’t even know her; we only met about 10 minutes ago, but she left a lasting impression. If you’re ever in the area, stop by and say hi to Jennifer. She’ll brighten your day.
4’s all around. Not a bad place, everything was fine, but room for some improvement. Biggest issue I had was there was some gnats in our area. They had a $5 all day special for Old Fashions. Some of our group were excited about that. I ordered the Hot Brown and it was okay. Again, good, fine, swell. Also tried their grilled cheese, that was also good. Oh, also tried the pesto chicken pasta. All of the food seemed good. Worth giving it a shot. I’m guessing the gnats were not an issue throughout or all the time. Btw, the picture is half of the grilled cheese and Hot Brown that I shared w my sister, not a menu option. Also, i would say if you get the Hot Brown, order an appetizer or salad since the portion seems small.
Went for a girl's night out here, and it was definitely a good decision. The food was phenomenal! I had the Thai chicken linguine, It was so savory, with mild sweetness. My only real problem was the drink prices, for tiny glasses. My friend got the special of the day which was $5, And her glass was three times the size of my glass for $14. My drink was delicious, but still.. felt it wasn't worth the ticket.
The food was pretty good. The chicken pesto pasta could have used more chicken. I really enjoyed the Derby pie! Good customer service.
We were walking along Main Street in downtown Louisville, this afternoon, when we spotted this fine establishment. We were seated promply, drinks arrived right away, and our order was taken. No fuss, no waiting. The southern fried chicken was excellent. Mashed potatoes, and collard greens. A little bit of gravy and that was that. My daughter had the Caesar salad, a nice full size, lots of green and shaved parmesan. My wife had the pulled pork sandwich, it didn't last long.
The food was sooo good. Way better than expected. The green chili wontons were delicious! My boyfriend got the green chili hot brown and could not say enough about how good it was. I had the veggie Thai stir fry and it was great. The service was the reason I didn’t give it a 5 star but it was ok to good. She just didn’t seem super friendly.
A fun stop worth checking out. We like the appetizer options, and settled on Green Chilli Wantons. Very tasty. I opted for an old fashioned and a vodka cranberry for my wife. Both were very good. Our server was very friendly. We'd stop again.
This is a great restaurant in downtown Louisville. The food was awesome, and the potatoes were amazing. The services wasn't fantastic and our waiter had terrible breath. It was painful every time he talked to us.
We dropped in last minute without a reservation. The Manager located two seats at the bar for a cocktail & a bite. The bar tender provided us 3 menus (set menu for the evening show, cocktail & food). We were in town for the bourbon trail and wanted to try this bar tenders specialty drinks. He made a classic Old Fashion and a drink he called Rye’d or Die. The Old Fashion was delicious. The Rye’d or Die ( a take on a classic Old Fashion) is absolutely out of this world. A must cocktail ! The set menu Spare Rib was plentiful, dry and very fatty. Mashed potatoes were delicious, miniature carrots tasteless. The bar cleared out just prior to the 7 pm show next door with everyone exiting within 5 minutes. We thought that someone may have said “FIRE” the placed emptied so quickly. We were literally the only 2 patrons remaining in the entire restaurant.
Food was okay. Appetizers were better than the entrees. Friendly and attentive service. Good drink specials every day.
Place was good, went with a party of 7. Food was 8/10 good, service was solid, bourbon selection was great as they let us do a pappy flight for $45 which is an awesome deal! They were out of a lot of menu bourbons which was a bummer but can’t have them all! Overall great dinner. Very full after.
Nice place, The food is okay, and the service was very good.
Bristol Bar & Grill — Downtown Louisville Shoutout If you haven’t been to the Bristol in downtown Louisville lately, you’re missing out on some seriously good food. We started with the legendary green chili wontons — crispy, addictive, and the kind of appetizer you pretend to “share” but absolutely do not. The Teriyaki Salmon with vegetables was perfectly cooked and full of flavor, the kind of dish that makes you consider becoming a better person. And the pork chop with greens was outstanding. Tender, juicy, and big enough to make you question your life choices in the best possible way. Finished the meal with a café latte and an Old Fashioned, because balance comes in many forms. Bristol downtown is still delivering the goods. Highly recommend for a night out, a date night, or anytime you want food that simply makes you happy to be alive.
Everything here was just fine, but missing flavor that could've made the food more of a wow. I'm talking not super soft rolls, mashed potatoes with no flavor or creaminess, and pork that was slightly charred and overly sweet due to a huge topping of mini peppers. I think the fried artichoke was my favorite thing, but I couldn't say I would try this place again unless someone else decided to go there.
Decent place wait staff was sparse and didnt seem to want to be there. The food was surprisingly delicious. When it came out it looked bland and lackluster but the English muffin bun was really soft and not chewy like I assumed it would be
Wasn't as expensive as expected. Menu selection wasn't as large as I anticipated either. I would give it a 3.5. The server was a little over zealous. He seemed to be removing menus from the hands of folks that seemed to still be mulling over them. Food was good but nothing special. Drink glasses were small so constant refills but he was staying on them.
We arrived on time at 5:15 for our reservation and were seated immediately. Our server came over and took our appetizer order. The app took awhile to be served but we did not get our dinner until 6:15 and had theater tickets. My dinner mate did not have time to finish her meal leisurely. My linguine was dry and honestly…a small portion. The server got our check wrong and had to redo it. We were one of the last to leave the restaurant before we needed to be at the theater. I was very disappointed and not sure who was responsible…server or kitchen. This is the second time we arrived early and had to rush to eat our dinner since it was served so close to the theater time.
Went on oaks day in the evening and I ordered sweet chili linguine. It was luke warm with very little sauce so was very bland. I had to ask for more sauce. Very disappointing especially since it wasn't even crowded. This dish is usually very good and tasty.
Went for burger week. ordered the PB&j burger with bacon it was fantastic. I did not like the sides on the menu but I did like the atmosphere. The burger meat was prime blended. The Chips and dip were a bit too dried out and hard. I noticed others not ordering sides too. Nice atmosphere, romantic.
After Event Dining We've been to charity events where Bristol Bar & Grille did the catering so we decided to try the restaurant and we were very disappointed. First, the side salad with the house made French dressing was inedible and the cucumbers looked like they had been frozen. I went ahead and ate the salad but I should have sent it back. My dining companion didn't have a dressing issue like I had. I ordered the Kentucky Bourbon Shrimp and Grits and the grits were of breakfast cereal consistency which was unappealing and it was overpowered by the amount of mushrooms and ham mixture. I did not eat the Bourbon Shrimp and Grits and just brought the entire meal home. My dining companion ordered the Grilled Bourbon Chili Chop which he said was OK. To top everything off the staff neglected to properly record our reservation through Open Table and I had to deal with the why didn't you show up letter when we were there early for our reservation. Overall dated decor, an older diner and inedible food. This is located within walking distance of many activities we participate in in downtown Louisville but we are not looking to return. Decor and menu needs updating.
This is the worse sweet chilli I ever had from the Bristol’s. This is why I only go to the one on hurstbourne. I’m giving 2 starts because the lady was nice who took my order. I won’t come to the downtown one again.
We’ve dined here often. Tonight was disappointing. We waited to be checked in despite reservations. Dinner salad was a couple of sprigs of lettuce. More like garnish. I have gluten allergy but was served gluten chips. Promised but never received broccoli. Long, long wait for entree. Negative attitude from wait staff when we asked when we’d get food. We had a play to get to. Not sure what the problem was. Hope they improve. 10/26/25 I spoke with a manager at their invitation. He was very helpful and listened to my concerns. He apologized and offered to send a gift card to us to make up for the problems we had at previous dinners. I appreciate the managers responsiveness. I will share info on our next visit.
Why is it so hard to get decent service anywhere? Waited 30 minutes for an appetizer when the restaurant was completely empty. Waited an hour and a half for entrees and only 7 out of 8 dinners came out. It’s so sad that you can’t get even mediocre service in Louisville.
Entire restaurant is empty and wouldn’t seat us without a reservation at 4:30 pm on a Saturday. Probably because we have kids
Absolutely horrible service Collin P was our server and was completely disrespectful the entire time. He threw our food removed our drinks and we tip him $100 bucks because we understand he was short handed but the amount of disrespect he showed was uncalled for. Would never recommend to eat here he food is alright but the server Collin needs to learn that we understood he was under pressure but that doesn’t give you the right to be upset with those paying you for your service if I could have removed the tip I would’ve his behavior was disgusting after we tipped him. Please hire better.
