Christmas day special. Deliciously good food, fast and very welcoming service. Live music was very much enjoyed with the atmosphere created by the hosts we had a full dance floor. Comprehensive drinks menu catered to all and the bucks fizz on entry and sorbet inbetweeners made it an enjoyable experience all round.
Visited Aug2025. An outstanding restaurant and bar. Food is immaculate, packed with flavour. Wine list is long. Bar is well-stocked. Service is very attentive, and tunes in with its guests very well, including humour when appropriate to do so. Pics: mushrooms in tomato sauce, fresh tuna steak (medium-rare), Sicilian cannoli.
Can not fault. The place is superbly decorated, giving a real higher class feel. Our food was absolutely amazing, I had the king prawns in spaghetti. The sauce was thick and silky. The cherry tomatoes were incredible, but the spaghetti !!!!! It was cooked to perfection. My wife, on the other hand, had a margarita pizza (not very adventurous). Still, she said it was delicious and well worth the money. I can't recommend carriages enough, and it's going to be my new Thursday night restaurant.
Simply amazing! Food was fantastic quality and really delicious - pasta was fresh and perfectly cooked, had both the lobster and ragu. Also the tiramisu was one of the best I’ve ever tried! Friendly staff, great value and great atmosphere with some lovely music playing throughout. Would highly recommend!
Been here a couple of times now, once during the week and once on a Sunday for a roast. Food here doesn't disappoint. Good menu options, reasonable priced and nicely done. The staff and team are wonderful and friendly. Often they have music playing in the outside seating area which is a nice touch. Great date night place.
Wow what an amazing experience we had. Booked for celebrating birthday of my wife and they did not disappoint at alllll. The food, service, ambience was amazing and we enjoyed every moment of the dinner. Staff was polite and lovely and made our experience very enjoyable. I would definitely recommend to anyone looking for good italian food. It is definitely worth the money.
I found this place online and they delivered a good pizza, so I went here for one of my first solo dates to have dinner. The atmosphere was a bit cold as the restaurant is probably studied for couples and families, and it made me feel a bit uneasy. The staff was lovely and the food was good, I went for the fish. I had starter, main and dessert, so the price reflects a well portioned 3 course meal of this quality. Maybe a bit salty for my taste, but the quality and freshness was definitely there. It’s a place that has authentic Italian dishes for the majority of it. I ordered the dessert, and I wasn’t impressed, but overall I liked it. The facilities were very clean and classy. The music was also a plus for any nostalgic Italian in the area, definitely worth a try, it’s a romantic place for a date.
What an amazing experience! I was originally brought here as a surprise for my 20th birthday and it was a pleasant one to say the least. I was already greeted with a "Happy Birthday" from the reception meaning they read the extra notes tab when my parents booked a table which also they remembered. I want to give extra commendation to Patrick and Marco for exceptional service and being extremely kind. Patrick also at the end surprised me with my crème brûlée a happy birthday (with an announcement) from the whole restaurant and the guests. Definitely recommend going to this restaurant. I have completely nothing bad to say. Great atmosphere, fantastic service and no long wait for food.
This is a great restaurant with really attentive staff and a great chef you actually get to meet. The food is exceptional and I have been back many times. Their theme nights are highly recommended.
Always amazing food and service. If that’s just the two of you or a family event of 30. Everyone’s leaving happy and full everytime.
We went for a meal on Sunday 20.02.2022 because it was my husbands birthday, there was 4 adults and a toddler, the decor was impressive, real linen tablecloths and napkins and the staff were very professional, friendly and accomodating even when the toddler made a mess they were not daunted they just took it in their stride and put us at ease, the food was amazing to say the least and very well presented, I would thoroughly recommend going to this restaurant for a great night out or for a special occasion amazing food, amazing staff, we will definitely be going again, I can't wait.
Fabulous Italian food. Fresh & of good quality. Staff were friendly and professional but not poncy! Very clean restaurant with retro setting. Nice to have a high end restaurant in Luton. Highly recommend. We had a 3 course meal but I dwelved into my dessert so quickly forgot to take a picture 😋
My friends treated me to an afternoon tea here yesterday for my 60th birthday. It was beautifully presented and the sandwiches were delicious and so fresh and the scones and cakes were lovely too. The staff were so attentive and the whole atmosphere was amazing. Thoroughly reccomend 🥰
Carriages offers the ultimate Bottomless Bubbles experience! Incredible value for money, with attentive waiters who kept our glasses topped up without us even needing to ask. The food was delicious and plentiful—we could barely make a dent in it while we were there! Thankfully, the staff were more than happy to provide takeaway containers so nothing went to waste. We had a wonderful afternoon enjoying their beautiful outdoor space. The hotel itself is elegant and stylish, and the staff were absolutely outstanding. Highly recommend!
Very warm welcome and we were fit in despite not booking and looking scruffy having just come off a flight. Staff were very welcoming and attentive despite having some large groups in. DJ playing celebrating International Women's Day was a nice touch and gave a very lively atmosphere. Great pasta portion sizes and pizza cooked fresh in front of us in a wood fired oven. All very tasty. We will be stopping in again next time we are at the airport.
Great bottomless, very quick refill of pink gin, lovely food too. Would definitely recommend ❤️
Best place to eat in Town. Friendly staff and amazing food
Great Italian food. Worth a special visit.
We had dinner there Saturday evening. From the moment we arrived the staff could nit enough to assist you. They were friendly and approachable The food was absolutely delicious, perfectly cooked and very well presented. We will definitely be returning to this little gem Thank you for a lovely evening!
Highly recommend. It's a Luton gem! EDIT: We visited again and it was a lovely experience. It is a lovely place in Luton, the service is great and I love the décor. Better to book if you are going on a Friday or Saturday evening as it gets really busy.
1st Time visiting Carriages. A warm welcome was given. Excellent choices on the menu. All dishes were presented to a very high standard. The freshness and flavours all shown through. Calamari starter was.the bset Calamari we tasted in a very long time. Tender flavoursome steak with crispy fries was excellent. The seafood spaghetti was fantastic, as were all dishes. Deserts all made in house did not disappoint. This Italian restaurant can hold its own with the best of them. A credit to the skills of the chef. Thank you.
Simply amazing food and great value for money for the quality on offer. Pizzas are some of the best I’ve ever had and lobster pasta was sublime. Starters and deserts were great too and the service was super friendly. The best reason I can think of for ever returning to Luton….
We were visiting the area and didn't have much time to research a place to eat. Walking in I was taken aback by the decor - the restaurant was off the reception of a hotel and everything looked very dated. It was like traveling back in time and my initial thought was that dinner is going to be a disaster. The aggressive signs in the parking area about parking inside the lines didn't exactly make you feel welcome either... But never judge a book by its cover, as the restaurant is amazing. The staff was cheerful, from the hotel reception to the restaurant staff. They were very friendly and as a bonus, was also great with my young children. The food was also exceptional and well executed - we had the soft shell crab appetizer which was great and both pastas we got was excellent, and the service was attentive. The kids loved everything on the kids menu too. This is a great gem and the packed dining room shows the locals know this as well! We will be sure to go back when we are in the area again in the future.
Hosted my grandparents anniversary this weekend! Have to say such a great venue, food, service all beyond 5 star! A special thanks to Patrick for being ever so organised and making everything go so smoothly. Great atmosphere and nothing is too much of an ask. Will definitely be recommending to anyone who asks for a venue in Bedfordshire! All restaurants staff professional, warm polite too! Big compliments to chef!!!! Thank you!
Food cooked really well, we had Sunday roast dinner. Starter very good size portion. Potatoes lovely and crispy also very large Yorkshire pudding. Cauliflower cheese and other veg just right. No room for dessert unfortunately. Shame it was a bit quiet, people need to go try it, we'll be back for more.
What a fantastic meal. The best we've had since moving to the area. A great variety of fish dishes that I love - not just all the standard ones; some creativity went into the menu. Friendly efficient staff. We'll be back for certain.
Wanted to have a nice meal before dropping off my friend at Luton Airport. Researched on Google maps but unable to reach by phone so just turned up. Parking was very tight! Fortunately it was early evening on Tuesday so plenty of space. At a nearby table I suspect Mr Morelli was sitting! The food was outstanding and beautifully presented. I will definitely be looking for excuses to return!
I had the good fortune to dine in this restaurant last Saturday. I fully enjoyed the complete experience. The service was top notch, from a friend and polite staff. The food was knock your socks off great. I would highly recommend this restaurant to everyone. Its a hidden gem.
I stopped off here for a light bite with my son and partner. We didn't have a booking either. The receptionist checked with the restaurant manager and we were ok to stay. The restaurant had a big party of ladies and a small family group also eating when we walked in. We ordered our food and drinks. All quick to arrive. The food was nice, fresh and tasty. The bill was not as much as I expected either. Would certainly call in again.
We were staying in Luton overnight and booked Carriages based on reviews. The food was outstanding. Instead of a standard Italian meal, every little detail was superb. For example, the olives we had at the start were full of flavour and the portion was really generous. We both had pasta. The prawns in mine were packed with flavour and the sauce was delicious. My partner had pasta with beef ragu. It was a 'proper' sauce with tender beef. Big portions, fresh - no cheap pre made average flavours. A touch of fine dining without the fine dining prices. If we lived in Luton Carriages would be a regular haunt.
A very enjoyable evening. The fillet steak was delicious, they also cooked chips for us even though they were not on the menu! ( Always worth an extra star ) The wine was very nice also. Our deserts were also very good. We were on a Groupon offer & the staff were very friendly. Would recommend.
Bestest friends, gorgeous wife's 60th, & 30th anniversary, had a great night, great food, great venue, rooms a little off course, as in need looking at, but comfortable, drop your bar prices a little as where we live, not as dear, free parking , very enjoyable, also very...very good staff who all worked very hard, so a bonus from venue to staff. I work in a lot of hotels & see people, your staff on the 23/08 excellent, kindest regards, Rob & Kirst xxx
The ambience is pleasant, staff are attentive and efficient and the Italian menu, including vegetarian, has attractive options. The wine list is also good.
Food: I picked this restaurant for lunch based on the website with amazing photos and menu options. On visiting today (Sunday) it seems the menu advertised is not available and a ‘Sunday lunch’ menu is the only one available. This has very limited options and was a disappointment because I had already planned what I wanted to eat. Three of the options were roast dinners so if you thought you were going to get something different and avoid the boring roast by picking an Italian restaurant you are mistaken! Starters we had truffle arancini - definitely reheated by refrying as the coating was hard and rice chewy, also a bit tasteless 3/10. Chicken liver pate-while nice was very average 7/10. Mains were lamb roast. Lamb was overcooked and a bit disappointing. Veg was average and bland. Roasties and Yorkies were very nice-6/10 Parpadelle was very oily/greasy with undercooked parts. Asparagus pieces were nice, raw spinach added on top was a bit odd but I like spinach so not too bad. 5/10. Desserts were okay Tiramisu just tasted of cream, couldn’t taste coffee at all, pannacotta not very vanilla flavoured. Again quite average. Nothing to rave about. 6/10 Service: staff are all very friendly and helpful. Food arrived super quick, almost too quick because it felt like they were rushing to get rid of you. Ambience: it’s a large restaurant, very plain decoration and only two other tables busy during our visit so lacked ambiance today. Might be better during a busy service. Overall: Despite a website with trendy fine dining photos and a write up of an experienced chef trained by Gino D’campo the whole lunch was very below average and disappointing. In fact if I was D’Campo I would be a little embarrassed my name was being used to promote this restaurant. Maybe we just came on a bad day but I could have made better pasta sauce and most definitely a better roast at home and I’m not a chef! Sorry guys, you were all very friendly but the food needs a big improvement and such a limited menu is also a shame xxx
As a former fine dining chef, I would consider the food here to be reasonable comfort food, similar to most mid-range pubs, but with an Italian twist. We started with the antipasti and the burrata for starters. The burrata, served with tomatoes and pesto, was beautifully creamy, but could have been elevated with better quality tomatoes and some decent balsamic, ditching the underwhelming pesto altogether. Overall, enjoyable, however, as was the antipasti, which was a pleasant, but largely unspecial collection of cured meats, green olives and focaccia. Was the focaccia deep fried before serving? It tasted like it, but I'm going to pretend it wasn't! It was a long way from 'fügassa' though. For mains, we had the salmon and pork fillets. Both were overcooked, the pork far too much so. It tasted like it was cooked in the sauce rather than added last minute. The sauces were good though, in particular the plum sauce on the pork, which had a brown base and paired perfectly with the savouriness of the meat. The mashed celeriac with the salmon was fine, albeit a little watery, but the pomme purée served with the pork was awful. It was obviously blended, rather than pressed through a fine screen, and it tasted like wallpaper paste. Blending potatoes is a huge faux pas, next only to deep frying focaccia (I really hope I'm wrong about them doing that). While the starters were a little too large, the mains were a little lacking in size and left you wondering why some more sides (some veg perhaps?) weren't added. The desserts, however, were well sized, and they seemed like they were made in house. We had the chocolate cake and cannoli. Both were a little like how your grandmother would make them after looking them up in a cookbook: fine but not particularly interesting and quite forgetful. For example, the cannoli shell was quite thick and chewy, rather than delicately crispy, and stuffed with sweet ricotta. There was no contrast with aromatic candied orange, no floral sweetness of good honey, and no savouriness of chocolate pieces. The ice-cream accompanying the cake, on the other hand, was quite lovely. A very good heavy coffee flavoured gelato. The wine and beer was a similar experience to the rest of the meal. A locally sourced pale ale, which was unspecial in terms of characteristics, but refreshing, and a montepuliciano that was nicely fruity but a little young and in need of decanting and was overfilled in a wine glass far too small for its volume. Overall, a little too pricey (~£90) for the quality, but friendly staff and nice atmosphere elevated the experience.
We haven't been here for a while, and wont be going back anytime soon. The website claims its high quality, and demanded "smart business dress code" - I guess business dress code for many is shorts and T shirt rather than trousers and shirt. On first appearance, the place looked dirty and unkept, far from its heyday when it first opened. It has gone downhill - Paper napkins and tatty cutlery in abundance. The food was plain, and not a patch on what it used to be and not much better than some cafes. As an example I had King Scallops. They were cold and covered in Nduja sauce which totally covered up the taste of the sea I was expecting. First time I had Scallops at Carriages when they had not long been open, they blew me away - they were amazing, but this time they were cold and bland. Main course of Veal Cutlet, the most expensive meat dish on the menu was no better than I have had in a cheap German cafe. It was greasy and bland and the spinach was bitter. To top it off, the service was appalling - staff, residents and contractors were wandering out to the outdoor dining area, where we were, to smoke with smoke wafting across all diners, without a care in the world. We had to go to the main Hotel reception to pay our bill as we waited nearly 30 mins for a waiter which never re-appeared. When we presented a voucher to pay for less than 50% of the total bill; (the voucher was a gift, and equivalent to real money, and advised on booking) the girl at the desk snatched it in disgust at us. As an update, two months on; I heard from another Restaurant that the owner at Carriages was disappointed with my review and was going to ring me. He didn't, and no point now as I wouldn't go back to a restaurant with such poor service all round.
They served a platter with cheese and ham which we didn’t order and the staff insisted trying to say we order it. Then I order a bottle of Valdobbiadene prosecco DOCG and I have been served a prosecco DOC made in Puglia with grapes harvested in province of Vicenza for the same price.. like if sounded like a deal. Unfortunate they didn’t know I’m from treviso, 30 mins drive from valdobbiadene. Food is decent, portion should be slightly generous, I would not recommend the wines and careful what they bring you. I was ending up to pay 34£ for a bottle that value 4.50€
Allowed us to book a table for 7.45pm...when we arrived we were told the kitchen had closed for pasta and it was pizza only and we only had 15mins! We obviously were very disappointed and left.
