Stop what you are doing and go to Chotto Matte. This was a great experience that hit a high note on all aspects. Food was incredibly tasty and well presented; amazing Nikkei cuisine. Service was on point, accommodating, and attentive without being overwhelming. The restaurant's decoration, vibe, and entertainment was excellent! We had the tasting menu, they have different tiers and after dining here, I can comfortably say they are well worth it. The drinks are expertly crafted and taste great. They also had amazing entertainment with a fire dancer that interacted with all the patrons. Great experience and is a must, hands down without hesitation. Trust me, you will love it!
Found this place through word of mouth. From the very entrance I could tell it was going to be stunning and it didn’t disappoint. The restaurant is beautifully designed. It has a retractable roof in its center atrium and has volcanic rock featured throughout the space. The hostess, servers and runners were very professional and pleasant. Our server was fantastic and guided us as to what the concept was (tapas) and what he specifically recommended. I had a glass of cava which I was so excited they had and it was delicious! Each plate looked incredible and the flavors and textures were amazing. The Jungle Salad, the Truffle Purple Mash, Dragon Roll and the Crab croquettes were great to name a few. The only area of the restaurant I think they can improve is the bathrooms. There was no soap in the dispenser and there wasn’t enough LIGHT to see where things were and whether or not there are hooks for your bag, paper towels and even a trash can or even to see if the bathrooms were vacant or occupied on the doors. Other than that it was a great experience and I actually look forward to returning when I’m in town next. Leave a like or follow me if this was helpful. Amazing atmosphere. Service was exceptional and we loved all our food. The drink menu was very well curated and had a good variety that also included great non-alcoholic options. The food menu also had a great variety with plenty of seafood, meat, vegetarian and vegan options. The only disappointment was that the entire table is required to do the same tasting and that didn’t work for our party’s dietary restrictions so we weren’t able to do the tasting menus. Instead we did al a carte which was still very good. We enjoyed everything we ordered. Would recommend and would like to come back again to try the tasting menu when not with a group.
What a great experience. The restaurant is beautiful designed and the staff are great. The drinks are so delicious and strong. Definitely a good bang for the buck. The atmosphere of this place is great, love the open air roof. The food is delicious but it is extremely small portion. Be prepared to order two of everything, and you will want to. The bathroom is also pretty interesting.
We had an amazing dinner at Chotto Matte for a large group of 13! Melissa was a pleasure to work with to organize a set menu option for a Friday night. She was even able to custom print menus at my request as we were celebrating a bachelor party. Jose our server was very attentive and provided great recommendations when it came to drinks. All the staff at the restaurant took exceptional care of our group with no detail left behind! As for the food, everything was exceptional and tasted very fresh. For a large group of 13, our 10 course tasting menu was coursed out perfectly. The vibe and ambiance is exceptional and the DJ was top notch. All around we could not have asked for a better experience and look forward to dining again whether it is with a small group or a larger group for a special occasion!
Ten stars!!! We went earlier in the day when they first open. We tried them the first day and my god! Blown away! Everyone and I mean everyone was extremely friendly and professional! It was a dining experience like no other. Flavors drinks atmosphere amazing! I was struggling with my chopsticks and our waiter gave us an excellent presentation on how to utilize them best! Had a great time. We came back the very next day! Chef personally came out to greet us and made us a special dessert! A very special place was etched into my heart those two days… Whenever we come back to Miami we will always always always visit!!! Food was so good I couldn’t take many photos 😜 The bathroom is the black light!!!
We loved the food here! Would definitely recommend the hamachi appetizer & salmon with goji berries! Those two dishes were out of this world but all the other dishes we got were fantastic as well! Service was nice and polite, food was timely. Only complaint would be the cleanliness of the bathrooms and lack of lighting. If I was them I would change the bathrooms!
Could not recommend Chotto Matte more. We came in on a Saturday night around 8:30pm for my boyfriend's birthday. When I made the reservation I noted it was his birthday, so not sure how much of a role that played, but our service from the moment we walked in, to the moment we walked out was exceptional. The hostess were so friendly, we had multiple servers as well as the manager come by and ask how we were doing. The manager even gave us a small comped dish to try after chatting for a little while. There was a DJ and the music was great, overall perfect celebration vibes. I had two personal hiccups during our dinner, both of which were definitely just the particular server we had: 1. l asked for a drink recommendation, something not sweet. I was recommended the Chicha Sagrada (not pictured) it was a great drink, but definitely had to have been THE sweetest drink on the menu which isn't really my cup of tea 2. I discreetly went up to our server mid dinner and told her I wanted to order a birthday dessert for my boyfriend as a surprise. Before the dessert came out while we were still waiting for our last plate, our server brought us dessert spoons, plates, and new napkins. And although great that she brought us the stuff, it was WAY too early and completely ruined the element of surprise! I would've preferred to have to ask for spoons after the fact lol Spicy Tuna Crispy Sushi: came with 5 decently sized pieces, it was very good but definitely too much for just the two of us Sato Maki: It doesn't say on the menu, but they touch this roll table side. It was fantastic Yellowtail: so many fantastic flavors and the texture from the chips on top Tuna Tataki: one of my favorites from the night. The herb salsa on top was fantastic BBQ Baby Back Ribs: we never would have ordered this is the manager didn't have us try it. They were so flavorful and so tender they fell off the bone. I'm not a big rib fan, but these were pretty great Passion Fruit Crème Brûlée: Fantastic flavor, the consistency of the crème was too gooey like it wasn't set properly or overheated when they melted the sugar.
I’m already craving so hard to come back and eat all the delicious food. I love this place so much, came to celebrate one of my beat friends birthdays and the atmosphere was vibrant and beautiful. The purple truffle mashed potatoes spectacular!!!
Amazing dinner and ambience. We went for our anniversary dinner (this is the 2nd year in a row) and tried the Deluxe sampler menu in 2021 and the Miami Spice this year.. both were delicious! wow. the drinks are a bit pricey but extremely tasty and with well-balanced flavors!
Love Chotto Matte! I took my 3 friends here after getting an ad for it Instagram. We were blown away. It’s tucked away on Lenox. There’s two parking lots so it was pretty convenient to park. We had a 1pm brunch experience booked. You spend one hour or so in the bar area, and then they seat you for the prefix brunch. It was $50 pp for the food and $60 for unlimited drinks. So worth it! We started with their version of a bloody mary, extra spicy. Very good. The staff were very attentive. They came around consistently to give tapas style appetizers which were amazing! There was also a live Congo player who complimented the DJ. We were then brought to our table where Zachary, our waiter, began the dining experience. I had the veggie option and my friends got the meat/fish option. We switched over the Veuve which was also unlimited pours. We loved everything. It was my friends birthday, so we ended with a birthday assortment of desserts with a candle. Overall, fantastic service, super unique vibe, excellent food, loud but fun. Will be going back.
I liked this place, my husband didn’t. Place is really beautiful, amazing interior, service was excellent. I liked music as well, it gave me nice vibe. We tried almost all the menu))) and it was ok. My hubby had some stomachache after this place, that’s why he didn’t like it. To be honest the place is overpriced, there are lots of places with the same dishes at least 2 times cheaper. I’m glad I tried it, but don’t feel like I want to come back
Amazing spot! Really beautiful and unique decor, it even has an opening roof and nice mood lighting. Food was absolutely amazing! So delicious every single plate and so much flavor. Even the gluten free dessert which was the lava cake. Highly recommend!!
Very cool space with delicious Nikkei food! The salmon tiradito and octopus were spectacular! All the ceviches were very good too. The lamb, pork belly, vegetable tempura were also delicious! Torched sushi was quite good. Pretty sure you can’t miss with much at this place. Very authentic Nikkei flavors. The deserts and service were not that great though.
A great new high-end Peruvian-Japanese fusion restaurant that’s a welcome addition to the Lincoln-Alton part of Sobe. The Chotto Bento box was excellent. Tasty and filling. At $30 it’s actually pretty good value for what you get. The bar is sophisticated and will be a good early cocktail stop on my future nights out. I would recommend and will certainly go back.
Did some research to find a place with good food and awesome mixologist cocktails and came across this gem of a place tucked away in an alley in the heart of south beach. Our experience started from the moment our Uber dropped us off, because the entrance is a bit mysterious since they have a very small sign outside the door, and well the door...I'll let be a surprise. Was greeted by a friendly host and shown to our table where Bethany took care of us, and she was amazing from the beginning. Gave us amazing recommendations and made sure we were well taken care of. The Manager Ana came several times to check and made us feel welcomed and also made sure we had accommodations set up for a return visit the following evening. Another table bought us a round and Sean was their server who also gave us worldclass service. Big shout out to the kitchen staff, because literally everything we ate and drank there was absolutely perfect. Can't wait to visit their location in London.
TWO THUMBS UP! 👍🏼👍🏼 Chotto Matte Miami has been on our radar for sometime now and finally the hunt for Red October is over!! We asked our waiter to guide us thru his recommendations for a great Japanese - Peruvian experience, without doing the any of the Sharing menu options, and that he did. Started off with Chotto Ceviche and Yellowtail "Nikkei Sashimi".. and was sold on the yuzu truffle soy ponzu! Heaven. We then enjoyed a specialty Sushi roll, not listed on the menu, which featured O-Toro before moving onto the Robata Grill part of the menu. Four words... Black Cod Aji Miso! Marinated for 3 days, it was absolutely delightful. Fish lovers... a must try! The Lomo a la Parilla (beef fillet) was also very tasty. As much as we wanted to try the Truffled Purple Potato Mash, our waiter said it would be too heavy to compliment the main dishes and recommended the Arroz Chaufa (Peruvian fried rice)... which we should gone with, but instead chose the Yuca Frita as our side dish. Sadly stuffed, we didn't get dessert (still questioning why), BUT Chotto Matte is now saved in my favs and we will be back! Ps. The Friday night bar scene is also popping.
Came here to celebrate my best friends birthday and was very impressed. We had a reservation for 10 but they were a bit backed up which we expected since it was a Friday night. We got seated 20 min after at the sushi bar. Everyone was very friendly and accommodating. Our server was attentive and full of suggestions which was great since it was our first time dining here (won’t be our last for sure) we ordered toro sashimi the yellowtail sashimi and the yellow tail rice cakes all were amazing. Drinks were super yummy too. Very happy ♥️
Nice place. Everything in good balance! Music not loud, but enough to feel yourself partying, good, tasty menu, everything to share, but very good, great interior with open to the sky roof, closing for rare miami rainy days.friendly surf, not very loud chatting around. Japanize/peruan fudion menu is very good! Strongly recommend! Suggested degustation sets are enough one for Two people. Peppers are amazing.
Absolutely FABULOUS. The ambience (if you go, make SURE to visit the bathroom 🤩), service, food, AND drinks were all stellar! Our server was so good and explained each dish we ordered, so in a rare instance, I only remembered to take pictures of the dessert- try the magic chocolate ball! On top of all this, you are in for a real treat you come across one of the GMs Ana, who is Miami’s finest in a nutshell. This restaurant and experience is a must!
I was here about 2 months ago. I didn't catch the name of my server, but this girl was one of the best servers I've ever had. The atmosphere is super cool in this place, and the food is amazing as well. We tried so many dishes, and they were all amazing. The highlights were the beef tataki, the octopus and the salmon tiradito. I highly recommend trying the cocktails, specially the Pisco Morada which they make with chicha. Also recommend seating next to the bar for the best views of the open roof, and taking a trip to the restroom to see the colorful wall they have over there.
Exactly what South Beach needed. Hip, fancy place, good ( loud too), music, cool interior, top notch service, great food. A bit pricey, but it pays off in people watching, and who doesn't love trying to squeeze out of a restaurant through big groups of dudes trying to get in. Yes to Chotto.
Indulging in a dining experience at Chotto Matte was a dream! My dining experience there was unforgettable, from start to finish. Every dish was bursting with flavor and looked like it came straight out of a foodie's dream. Plus, they've got these cool different kitchens serving up all sorts of tasty unique dishes! Pro tip: let your server pick what you eat. They're spot-on with their recommendations. The vibe in the restaurant was lively but still cozy and stylish. And don't even get me started on the drinks – take a chance on something new, you won't regret it! The service was top-notch, really friendly and personal. The chef even popped over to our table to make sure we were loving the food. And dessert? That crème brûlée was out of this world! I can't wait to go back! Chotto Matte, well done!
Had the most wonderful experience at Lunch on Wednesday, November 12, 2025 with Roberto who enhanced our experience sharing so much about the Chef and food style and was so attentive! It is hard to find great customer service anymore and out of all the restaurants I went to in SF while there on business this was exceptional service!
This review is long overdue but oh my gosh.. Chotto Matte has blown my expectations through the roof! 1000000/10! I made a reservation about a week before I headed to Miami and called the restaurant the day of to inquire about their dress code. I should’ve asked for her name but the madam who answered the phone was super bubbly, giggly and said to “come as you are”. Upon arrival, we were greeted (by said madam) and they acknowledged we were celebrating a graduation that afternoon. The restaurant was beautiful, and though it seemed like we were the only two dining in the restaurant, I personally took it as a positive. No long wait times and quick service. We ordered the nikkei menu deluxe and then also some other dishes like the spicy tuna crispy rice, amazonian bbq salmon & asado de tira. One after another, when we finished one dish, we’ll receive another. Everything came to the table quick and hot. We didn’t feel we were being rushed at all. My favorite dishes of the night had to be the amazonian bbq salmon [tender, not dry at all, amazing curry sauce], asado de tira [purple potato purée complimented the short rib, melts in your mouth!], tentáculos de pulpo [not chewy nor tough, plating was beautiful], and the wagyu sirloin! The deluxe menu was great for us to try a variety of items. Our server John was phenomenal! He was very courteous and I appreciated his excellent timing during our meal. I informed him that I preferred sweeter cocktails and he recommended the flor de manzana. Of course, it was great. His second recommendation was the peach pisco and I was a bit worried about the egg whites as an ingredient, but I enjoyed it regardless. Drinks were complementary to the meal. The server asistant (i’m assuming—wish I gotten her name too 😭) was also very kind and she explained every dish thoroughly. I never lifted a finger to do anything. She constantly switched my plates out and made sure I had a clean surface before the next course. The bill came out to be $400 for 2. Some may find it steep, but you’re paying for the excellent service and environment as well. I, myself am a server in Atlanta and the Chotto Matte staff executed the steps of service perfectly to the t. Each and every interaction in the restaurant made me feel welcomed and so pleasant to be there. See yall again soon!
This is a fantastic restaurant. They serve Peruvian Japanese fusion which is truly one of a kind. The curated plates course of 6 items were bang for the buck. We tried one of the vegetarian options and the Nikkei menu 1. Both were great. The yucca fries and Asado De Tira (teriyaki beef-well done) just stood out. They do come with a course of dessert. The whole is a nice Miami experience with a colorful vibe with some nice DJ music.
The best part of my birthday. The service is is 5 stars all the way. The food and atmosphere is overall one of the best in Miami beach. They have this beautiful sky window which closes when it rains. A wall that opens as their door. Everyone is beyond friendly. The timing if the food is perfect. Never to early never to late.
100% recommend for date night , birthday celebration or a GNO ! Food : 5/5 Apps: edamame, dragon roll, Nikkei jalea mixta;all delicious and very well presented plus they all came out paced . I really appreciated how someone was constantly picking up our plates and filling our water . The place was full and you can tell they run a very organized system ! Entree : -pollo den miso ;it was so good !I asked our really nice server Claree to help me decide between the pork belly or chicken and she recommend their most popular dish and I’m so glad I listened it was DELICIOUS and perfect if you’re not a fan of spicy food like me . -Jungle Salmon ;A must try ! It was rich in FLAVOR. My boyfriend and I LOVED every plate Cocktails were yummy! Flor de manzana is perfect if you like your drinks sweet and he’s so Smokey is great for the Mezcal fans ! (Just wish my flor de manzana wasn’t so warm) Decor was beautiful I loved the ambiance the cherry blossoms neon sign/lights with lots of greenery and the open roof was a cool modern vibe plus the DJ plays electronic music which my bf and I enjoyed We will definitely be returning and telling our friends and family !
This place never disappoints, from the moment you walk in til you leave . The manager mark greeted us right away and was very friendly and inviting . The food is unbelievable and always on point . The octopus is the best I’ve ever had in my life . The tuna crispy rice is absolutely delicious. The service is always top notch , make sure to ask for Jose , he’s the best in the biz. The ambience , music and hospitality is unmatched. The cocktails are well balanced and very tasty . I can’t wait to go back !!
Chotto Matte Miami is one of the restaurants in the upper percentile of favorites for me globally. Everything is detailed from start to finish and service is some of the best. Having a staff that is equally fun and knowledgeable about what they are serving, especially in Nikkei cuisines, is of the upmost important. Chotto Matte checks all the boxes.
An all around good experience. If you have never been to the location, make sure you Google it because it's down an alleyway and the entry is photographed with this post. Make sure you get reservations. The the energy was alive throughout. There was a live informal modeling performance that was also entertaining. The food was amazing. Especially, the Black Cod. I think we ordered it 4 times. The cocktails were great and had a great wine list. I recommend the "He's so smokey" if you like Mezcal. ** but they do not have a phone charging station. Just an FYI and they will not charge your phone anywhere.
I was walking from Lincoln Road on evening and saw this interesting looking place on a side street, a huge door semi-open, revealing an enticing environment. At that moment I was wearing my scrubs so made a mental note to come back one day. Finally that day came, and me and my boyfriend went for dinner on a Saturday night. Reservations were disputed, and when you walk through that mysterious door, it’s clear why. The ambiance is just amazing, such a great vibe! It’s hard to describe it… lively, an upscale, high end restaurant, you could be in any major city in the world. Just look at the photos! That night there was a live DJ playing electronic music and you feel like inspired to party. There’s a downside to that though: music is a but too loud for conversations. Service was quick and very good, a lot attention to details, staff was friendly and helpful. We absolutely loved the food, not touristy like many other places in Miami Beach. The portions are small, we got a bunch of things to share and were very satisfied. Many times you go to a restaurant where you feel you pay too much for the food. But here it was worth every penny. I can’t wait to come back and try everything else from the menu! Amazonian Salmon - exquisite taste, amazing combination of flavors! Every bite was magic! Shrimp spring roll - very interesting, crispy, tasty, different. The dipping sauce was magnificent! (That’s my boyfriend’s description…) Chaufa rice with shrimp - tasty, had a nice subtle smokey taste. My boyfriend really liked it, to me it was good but nothing special. Pork belly - my boyfriend and I disagreed on this one. I really loved it! And he said the flavor was “a little too intense”. Oh well. Dragon roll: good! But nothing surprising about it. Chocolate brownie: it was a bit too sweet for me. But very good, rich, full of texture. The mango sorbet was superb.
Can't say enough good things about this place! The food was incredible... interesting, unique flavors and pairings. So creative and done very well. Everything was cooked to perfection. The ambiance was such a chill fun vibe with a house DJ playing in the background and beautiful IG worthy decor. The service was 5 star from the moment you walk in the door until the moment you leave. You can't find service like this anywhere in Miami. Sonny was our server and he knew the huge menu to a tee and was so good at steering us in the right direction. He made the experience even better! Very impressed and highly recommend!
Beautiful ambiance combined with tasty food and solid cocktails. We sat at the sushi bar, where you can also order dinner. There’s a nice outdoorsy vibe they create with the greenery draping from an open air space above the bar. The music isn’t too loud where you feel like you’re yelling. The food was good. We ordered sushi, gyoza, lamb chops, and the duck fried rice (which was the only thing that wowed us). Everything else was simply good. Drinks were also good. I really enjoyed the Sumoki (spicy/smoky). I’d come back for the ambiance and to enjoy a drink. Maybe try some other small plates.
This place will make you WOW, so unique from the construction of the open roof over the main bar and sitting area, to a giant entre door 30 x10 feet, graffiti style art with lots live plants and exotic huge lava rocks throughout entire restaurant. Food and service top level and faire price structure. One more very cute bartender and she created wonderful coctails.
This places is quite cool, food and drinks are good but the service is slow, drinks are small, if you want a full drink better order 2 at the same time since it will take time to be on your table and they will be small. Food will take a bit but it is very good food. The atmosphere is quite nice, bathrooms are cool for photos but hard to find 🤣
My husband and I indulged in their meat menu Valentine’s Day special and are seriously considering making it an annual tradition. The food was delicious, the atmosphere and vibe was awesome and everything was memorable including the amazing service. Our waitress was never too out of reach and even the manager Miguel made us feel like we were VIP. If you’re considering a night out with friends or a significant other, this is definitely the place. Our friends did their valentines specials at STK and waited two hours to be seated and the service was equally horrible. Chotto made sure our 8 courses were fresh and delicious and we never had to wait and were treated like royalty. They definitely made our first Valentine’s Day a special one.
This place has been on my list for a while. And we finally were able to check it out! O what a surprise! The restaurant has one of the best vibes I’ve ever experienced in SoFlo. The decor and the set up is quite nice and vibrant. Definitely recommend it for any celebration or just simply changing your daily grinds. We order Hemingway daiquiris and they were spot on! Ordered the octopus 🐙 it cooked to perfection and tasted so good. We ordered few sushi pieces that were fresh and delicious. This place is great for a happy hour or a formal dinner. Reservations is a must for later dinner but they welcome walk ins during happy hour! We can’t wait to be back and taste more of the menu!
My first time here, but certainly not my last. First off, the ambiance was amazing. Then our server, Natalie was killer and made so many great recommendations for our Sunday Brunch. So attentive, and a true hospitable marvel. We enjoyed all our food, from the ceviche, rolls, gyoza, hamichi, to name a few... We even had a great visit from Ana, the Assistant General Manager who was so amazing. Highly recommend for brunch or dinner, and not to mention there specials on Monday (1/2 price alcohol) and Wednesday (1/2 price menu)!
Amazing experience from start to finish! Understand Miami traffic - we were running late and they were so gracious. Thoughtful design. Informative server, diligent back up team, AMAZING and creative cuisine and libations from appetizers through dessert. Chill ambiance with solid music.
Beautiful secluded location off Lincoln road on Miami Beach. Happy hour from 4-7 here is a really great vibe, the crowd picks up at 7pm. The decor and ambiance mix with so many eye catching details will make you want to revisit this place over and over. Please try the Flaming sushi roll, they torch it table side 👌🏽
Absolutely incredible experience. This restaurant had the most incredible aesthetic and interior design I’ve ever seen in a restaurant. Not only was the food absolutely, mouth-wateringly incredible but the service was additionally exceptional. With a massive variety of different foods and experimental cuisine, the experience overall was quite simply incredible.
I have been here a few times including their opening night. If not anything else this place is consistent. Consistently amazing! From the first impression with the swing out door in the alley, to the cherry blossom laden bar, the painted walls and the ultraviolet restroom, Chotto Matte promises to be an experience you won't soon forget. We graze through the menu in no particular order based on our hunger level. First round was the spicy tuna roll, the shishito peppers and the pollo picante and pollo peruano. An absolute win. Second round was shrimp spring roll, another spicy tuna roll (the aioli is to die for) and the yucca frites. All very nice, the shrimp spring roll was perfectly portioned and came with an amazing sauce that was light and slightly tangy. For dessert, the salted caramel chocolate fondant was an ideal dessert as it was light and airy yet decadent enough to satiate any sweet tooth. I cannot wrap up without mentioning the impeccable service. Plates were cleared as soon as th last bite consumed. Glasses stayed full and they were all very accommodating. Will keep returning as long as they keep doing what they're doing. Thanks for a great meal in a cool place!
I wish we got more photos of the food but we were so hungry hungry we ate it all. I only recommend this place for appetizers & drinks. The dragon roll is SO good. 3 stars because the staff is rude. UPDATE: I came back because the Dragon Roll was amazing. The staff this time was very friendly and provided the best service. I’m happy I gave them another chance & came back to a better experience.
Very nice place my friend and I went in for a late lunch and tired out various items on the menu. I would say most things are the size of an appetizer. (So small portions) overall the staff was very nice and helpful when explaining the menu. Cocktails were also very delicious. The only thing I didn’t care for was the table we were sat at, it kept rocking🙃 but besides that I enjoyed this place very much.
Very nice ambiance. Can’t complain about anything. The service tonight was prompt and answered any question we had about the menu. Gave us the complete run down of the menu and recommended some very tasty drinks and food items. We got the braised beef and hibachi grill and enjoyed them both. We also tried a couple apps to start with our drinks and were impressed. Nothing to rave about but the food was delicious l. A little pricy but well worth the experience. Definitely recommend trying this place at least for happy hour.
My husband took me here for date night, we had our son during covid and hadn’t been out since before he was born. It was a beautiful hidden spot on Lincoln road. The menu had so many delicious options. A few things I think they could better would be the portions for sharing the chef menu. It was $90 per person to share 1 plate and it didn’t bring as much as I thought. The last thing I would improve would be seating. The chairs don’t match the ambience of the restaurant and are very close to other couples. Aside from that I believe they’re going in a beautiful direction and look forward to seeing the improvements.
Service and ambiance were great. It's expensive and drinks are not that strong. We did the III tasting menu for 4 people. Everybody left full. Good for an experience, but not one of the places I'm craving to go back to.
Amazing decor and aesthetics. The huge opening in the ceiling was so cool and the cherry blossom trees in the front of the restaurant gives this place the best vibe. Their BBQ edamame refers to their style of cooking not their flavor. My friend ordered these thinking they would taste like BBQ but it is normal, non-flavored edamame charred on a BBQ. I loved them! We also got the cauliflower, so good. The sake and all of the other food we ordered was great! Only two complaints: 1. The bathroom is pitch black dark. I’m in my 20’s and I know it is supposed to be a trendy modern vibe and I love a good monochrome interior design but when literally everything is black including the toilet and door and handles and walls and floor.... I could barely see what I was doing. Especially after a couple drinks. 2. I got the Arroz Chaufa and they should put a warning label on that meal. It was so insanely spicy I had heartburn for 3 days straight afterwards. My husband who has an extremely high tolerance for heat said it was really spicy and he eats Carolina Reapers and Ghost Peppers for fun. (Maybe they just over-spiced my dish idk) Otherwise great place!
This restaurant is very easy to miss, as it is located down an alleyway walking towards the lincoln rd garage. From the outside you would never know there is a restaurant with cool vibes and fun decor on the other side of the wall. They have a fantastic happy hour with buy one get one free drinks and some delicious bites. Mondays have happy hour all day! We ordered the sharing menu (#2) and it was a great experience! It was probably too much food for my boyfriend and I but we got to try a number of different items. Next time, I will probably pass on the menu so I can order more sushi 😋. Highly recommend: miso chicken, shrimp dumplings, and the chef's choice dessert was this amazingly delicious chocolate mousse cake Pass on the king oysters tostadas.. they had a weird bbq flavor that I did not enjoy at all.
Upscale fusion restaurant with an amazing ambiance. I tried the Nikkei Menu Deluxe. Out of the 9 choices, I must say that the yellowtale Nikkei Sashimi and the spicy o-Toro sashimi were the best ones. One thing is that everybody needs to get a sharing menu. So be ready to pay large.
I was able to reserve a table here at Chotto Matte Miami , and I think its great if you could reserve a table for places like these that are always busy. When you walk in its a nice open area and everywhere you looked was just exciting to look at. The place has an aesthetic look that makes you wanna take a picture and post it online. The servers were quick and attentive with our orders and the food and drinks came out quick. Some of the stuff on the menu sounded great and original .their sushi rolls were over priced and weren't that satisfying. Everything else came in really small portions so if you're hungry this probably isnt the place for you to go to. I can easily spend 400+ dollars on this place and still go to a buffet. So all in all i would give this place a 3.5
I came here for dinner on a Tuesday night with a group of people to try out the tasting menu. We found the spot pretty easily, the entrance is down a wide alley from the main road. Walking in was amazing, it was such a beautiful entrance with cherry blossoms and fun lighting. We were seated quickly and our waitress (Natalie) was so helpful and explained the menu. We all got the vegetable tasting menu and then did a side order of octopus and yellowtail. It was all very good and well cooked, especially the octopus which can easily get rubbery. I will say for the price I could have gone with slightly larger portions, but still full at the end. I recommend the lychee ceviche and stopping in!
I've been to places that are "overly expensive" especially in Miami Beach where you'd expect it. However, I wasnt really impressed. 1. They removed the amazing Sakura/Cherry Blossom Tree, which was a major part of the atmosphere. Kind of a letdown. 2. The food/setting didn't "justify" the price whatsoever. $600+ for two people for the quality was not great. The highlight of the meal was supposed to be some Australian Cooked Wagyu Sirloin and it was arguably one of the most disappointing steaks I've ever had. It was sliced great, but overcooked, surprisingly dry, and (although they provide course salt on the plate) unflavorful. 3. If you order one of the small plate coursed meals, everyone is forced to order the exact same coursed selection. Again, for the price..I should have the option. On the upside, both times I've been here it was easy to find parking right in front, but that might be because I got reservation closer to opening hours. Our server checked on us often, management acknowledges you often, and the bussing staff comes to clean up very frequently. They definitely keep an eye out for anything out of place. The shishito peppers and the yellowtail sashimi were very flavorful. In my opinion, this place was nicer about 3-4 years ago. I enjoyed the food a bit more back then. I probably won't be back. It's a hassle to drive through Miami traffic to get here and not be blown away by the food for the price.
I recently visited this place Saturday, February 18th 2023. I gave 3-star to the restaurant because we had a terrible experience. The server was rushing to get our order and the low light ambient made it difficult to read the menu. The menu was also confusing and the loudly music made it hard to communicate. The small portion food was not worth the price and to top it off, we were double charged on the bill. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone.
A unique indoor dining space, great waiters and great food presentation for the most part, average tasting food with underwhelming food portions, The great: the visual concept, design, branding and cherry blossoms are absolutely gorgeous. Thought was put into the visual aspect of this restaurant to bring this tropical and lovely *visual* dining experience. The rest: An average individual won’t be satisfied with a single entree and appetiser. Entree portion sizes are about the same as an average restaurant’s appetiser, and won’t come with a side. I looked at images and read reviews prior. “sushi” is a popular keyword on google reviews for this location and there was only a hand full of options on the menu, so I inquired and got what the waiter recommended( I like to go with waiter’s recommendations whenever visiting new restaurants). What I ordered tasted fresh but not memorable. No sauce or kick and tasted more like a basic roll from an avg sushi menu rather than a signature roll. No one at our table had a “damn, you need to try this” moment. If I were to return it wouldn’t be for a full course meal or dining but for social drinking and an entree as appetiser. Note: You will be charged for water and 20% service charge is included on the bill. A parking lot is conveniently located around the corner of the restaurant.
First time visiting we waited over 15 mins for a table that we made reservations for and guest walked in after us were seated immediately. The scenery was very pretty and perfect for our girls night out. The food presentation matched the place but seasoning was a little off. Drinks were amazing.
The place makes a great impact, very nice atmosphere though the music is extremly loud, it is almost imposible to speak with the people you are at the table. Menu is pretty extense and food in general was very good, nice quality and only one of 12 dishes came cold. When asking for wine, they lack of many that are in low price range. Deserts were great. Service over all was very poor. Even with our reservation they made us wait 12 minutes at the door when there were around 8 free tables, including ours. Our server disappear for around 20 minutes and could not order any thing else. At the time of verifying the Check, the charge for the bottles of wine were higher than the prices listed; all was solved but I recommend to double check before paying.
On my visit to South Beach I was sure to include dinner at Chotto Matte for dinner. The tables are far apart and the restaurant limited capacity (compliant with Covid-19 regulations). We ended up trying the Nikkei Sharing Menu Deluxe (11 course meal, $120 per person). I must say the food was spectacular. The Shishito peppers were the best I’ve ever had. Yellowtail “nikkei sashimi” was excellent, fresh with amazing truffle ponzu sauce. Tuna tataki was a bit underwhelming, not enough flavor profile in the sauce. Chuleta de Cordero Ahumada was the lamb chop, made tender to an absolute perfection with an excellent marinade and spice profile. I can confidently say this was the best lamb chop I ate in my life and many would agree with me. Top notch👌. The black cod yazu-miso was also the best I’ve had in my life! There is a theme to the elevated food quality and menu selection here! We sat at the high top table by the bar and the bartender was our server as well, they have an excellent cocktails selection but I asked the bartender (Jorge) to give me his favorite gin based cocktail and HE DID NOT DISAPPOINT! He was very friendly and attentive all night. My ONLY CONCERN here and this is honestly a big one, is the time limit and how long we can sit at the table. 1.5 hour experience may be enough for a basic dinner but not for an 11 course meal. I felt the food came out rushed and was not presented appropriately. I was rushed eating my food the whole dinner and the manager made sure to let Jorge know that they needed the table by a certain time. Our time at the table was extended by 30 mins (because literally not all of our food was out yet) but over all I felt rushed, we spent close to $400 for a dinner for two with everything included, so I did not appreciate being rushed and was not able to have a proper experience. Very disappointed, seems the management does not value a customer experience.
This is a beautiful restaurant! The decor is garden nature inspired. Sitting at the bar was the coolest experience. The cocktails are amazing! I thought my food was okay. I ordered the spicy chicken Karaage. It was over cooked, tough, and salty. My friend wasn't impressed with her sushi. Overall I would go back just for drinks, perhaps try another dish next time.
Beautiful restaurant, terrible food. Let me start by saying I absolutely love Peruvian and Japanese food, however this is not it. Save your money and go elsewhere. Nice presentation, but no flavor and the portions are tiny. I went to celebrate my birthday, ordered: Yellowtail “Nikkei Sashimi“ - (the ONLY thing I would consider going back for. Sad to say the best thing on the menu is the one dish that isn’t cooked); Spicy Tuna roll - no spice or flavor whatsoever; King Oyster Mushroom Tostadas - bland; Wood Fired Bok Choy - terrible, undercooked and no flavor; Charcoal Roasted Sweet Potato - undercooked and no flavor; Pollo de Miso - biggest portion of all but nothing great, the yogurt is unnecessary and gives it a strange smell and taste; Tentáculos de Pulpo - tough and no flavor. At this point I gave up and stopped ordering. Needless to say, we had dessert elsewhere. I will say our server had a great personality but I would not recommend or go back.
Tropical outdoor ambiance, good looking and tasting food, disappointing service. Was here for a birthday dinner on a Friday night. Naturally a bit busy. Our table had a bunch of service workers, we understand the night can get busy, but to repeatedly ignore our multiple requests to place an order is inexcusable. So it took over an hour wait just to place a food order and then another long wait for the food to come out. Also they brought out a nice place of churros that said happy bday which we got charged for. We didn’t order it just said it was for a birthday. Could’ve said it would be charged or simply not brought it out. I guess they put an automatic 20% tip on the $700 bill so they don’t have to actually do their job.
This place is mediocre at best. Sure, the restaurant is beautiful (I mean during the daytime at least so you can ACTUALLY appreciate the sun shining through the open ceiling). But overall, the music, food, service was lackluster. We ordered a variety of dishes including the jalea mixta, spicy tuna crispy rice, yellowtail nikkei sashimi, asado de tira, chicken kaarage and wagyu gyoza. Not a single dish stood out to us, overwhelming lack of flavor complexity; essentially one note. Service was also quite disappointing. Perhaps the already included 20% gratuity allowed the server to forget about ordering our drinks/food and not check on us a single time to ask if we needed anything… like basic things such as condiments. Hello, soy sauce? Lastly, the inability to divide up our check at the end was the cherry on top. We were a group of 6 and had all of our orders written out on our phone yet they were unable to accommodate and limited us 4 cards only to pay. All in all, there are many other aesthetically pleasing, fusion-style, Japanese inspired restaurants here in Miami such as Dragonfly and Paperfish. Unlikely would I visit again, this is a prime example of over asking and under delivering.
Beautiful place , very romantic and sexy ambiance. The service was excellent. The food and drinks I would not recommend. I ordered the yellow tail tradito and ate it without really enjoying very spicy and thick chunks of fish. I ordered a guac and chips and it was tiny and spicy! Everything seemed to be extra spicy here . After trying what the server recommended I did NOT want to try anything else on the menu. Prices was high and expectations was low. Bad fish quality , bad cut and extreme spice flavors. I ordered a pisco sour and it came with a bug floating on top. I told the server and he exchanged it immediately but would have been nicer to get the first drink on the house. I payed about $100 for 2 drinks and 2 appetizers. Would have went anywhere else and had a lot more value and food for that kind of money.
